Will life go on if you pass on these outrageously expensive stackable Tom Ford potted shadow duos (OMG! They’re $62!)?
Of course it will. You’ll survive… To paraphrase Celine Dion, life will go on. Your heart will continue to beat, your lungs will continue to function, but on a makeup level? Honestly, I don’t know. I can’t say for sure.
You’ll live, but chances are good that your eye makeup won’t be as sassy or sparkly as it would be if had one of Tom’s new Cream and Powder Eye Colors in your life.
Girl, I’m freaking out over these! ?
Tom did something similar back in 2015. They combine a cream shadow and a glitter into a stackable duo, to which I have to say, YES.
There are four of them in the 2017 Summer Soleil Collection, and here are pics of two of the four in Young Adonis and Sun Worship. I’ve seen the other two, which are called Naked Bronze and Golden Peach, in previous TF summer collections. I have an older version of them, and I love ’em, but I haven’t seen the new ones in person yet.
Like Tom’s past Cream and Powder Eye Colors, Sun Worship and Young Adonis come in a stackable, screw-top jar. Your cream shadow is in the bottom, and then you flip open the top, and that’s where you see the glitter eyeshadow, which I want to call more of a glitter top coat because it isn’t highly pigmented.
FYI, nobody does eye glitter like Tom Ford does. The flecks are so microscopically minuscule that they look almost gloss on your lids.
UGH! I love it. It kills me every single time I see those signature glossy, glittery Tom Ford lids.
As I get older, I’m becoming more of a makeup minimalist, and I LOVE these cream/glitter duos for simple yet sassy, sparkly looks.
Simply sassy
I’ll use a finger to apply one of the cream shadows on my lids, going just barely into the crease. Then I’ll smudge out the edges and, using that same finger, swirl it in the pan of the glittery top coat a few times (don’t use a brush because it won’t pick up anything). Then I’ll pat the glitter directly on top of the cream shadow for a glossy eye look that looks fancier than it really is.
Sometimes, if I’m really feelin’ it, I’ll also sweep some bronzer or MAC Soba into my crease to give my hooded eye sitch more depth.
Then I’ll curl my lashes, throw on some waterproof mascara and tightline.
FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m a Tom Ford Cream Shadow junkie ?
Tom Ford Cream shadows are…OH! They’re my favorite thing about these duos.
Yeah, the glitter topcoats are great too, but the creams? SO pigmented, SO easy to blend, SO reliable (they don’t scoot around on my dry lids), and they don’ feel or look heavy.
I’ve heard that some folks have issues with them creasing, but that hasn’t been an issue for me. When I have them on, they stay put all day long and steer clear of my fine lines.
The final verdict
I FREAKING LOVE THESE THINGS, even though they’re obnoxiously expensive.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I remember being tempted when they were released the first time, simply because I love a cream plus a similar powder on top. But they simply aren’t in the makeup budget at the moment, new house and all that.

Tom Ford always has the most beautiful, most obnoxiously expensive stuff! 🙂 These look lovely, of course. And they have a nice, summery vibe which is much appreciated right about now! HAHA!

These double deck eyeshadows are my fav too. I have both the shades from last year’s collection. Now, waiting to try the new shades. 😀
Kristen says
Whyy must these be so expensive! Love the Young Adonis shades!
Eleni says
I really like Young Adonis, such a beautiful colour! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Eleni,
Me too! It’s also beautiful layered underneath taupes.

I keep getting tempted by Young Adonis. But when your “Beauty Ambassador” from Neimans tells you there will be other stuff coming out that is more suited to you, you kinda wait and save your money for the next round. Because with TF there’s always another round. Lol.
I do love the cream color in Young Adonis. And like you, I love the TF cream colors. Wish he’d just go ahead and create a whole slew of colors. They go on quickly with a finger. Intense or smudged out. They make a great base for powder eye shadows and I’ve never had a problem with creasing or fading.
Cory says
I haven’t heard beauty ambassador yet. Brand ambassador is officially a thing though. It sounds nicer than account rep lol
Tatiana says
I think it’s just a title that Neiman’s uses for it’s sales associates in the beauty department. Not sure if they all get that title, but it’s definitely on the nameplate of my favorite TF sales associate. I’ll skip by the counter unless I know she’s working. Can’t stand the push I get from the others.
Karen says
You know what I want? A whole slew of TF matte cream colors. I would die. DIE!
Tatiana says
Satin or matte. OMG! I would just have to hand over my wallet. Seriously, if TF just expanded the colors available, I would pretty much buy most of them.
Tatiana says
Another question. Do you have Titanium? How does Young Adonis compare to it? There’s a part of me that thinks they’re pretty similar…Or am I just being crazy?
Tatiana says
Doh! I mean Platinum! Don’t know where my brain is these days.
Cory says
Ugh I die for Young Adonis! Not really, but it’s great. The packaging on these reminds me a lot of Dose of Color’s EyeDeal Duos. These prob feel way more lux… Darn it, Karen! I want this now!
It looks beautiful on you!
Karen says
Thanks, Cory. I could easily wear this makeup every day. The easy, simple stuff (with a little bit of sparkle)… Those are my favorite looks.
Haven’t tried the Dose of Color Duos. Do you like ’em?
Cory says
The primer is nice & easy to use, but the pigment is a wee bit more difficult as far as getting the placement exactly where you want it. I may just not have the right tool. But yeah! They’re awesome. I like Tom’s take a lot! That Adonis is killer.
I always love your looks ?
Karen says
Thanks for the scoop on the products. I haven’t tried anything yet from them but want to.
Hope you’re having a nice week so far.
Lulubelle says
The one TF cream shadow I tried creased terribly on me. Sigh, oily lid problems. Maybelline’s Color Tattoo cream shadows wear great on me however, so there is that.
Karen says
Aww, bummer! Hey, at least you don’t feel the need to fuel a TF cream shadow addiction! 🙂
Erin says
Young Adonis is super tempting!
Karen says
Isn’t it, though? I love those taupe-y gunmetal colors. They’re my weakness!
Chelsea says
Gaaah this is gorgeous. I need to buy a Tom Ford product someday.

this is a late comment, cause you wrote this post several weeks ago, but omg. OMG! I had always wanted TF’s Platinum, but for some reason the first time in recent history I found myself at an actual TF counter (eee!) I was somehow talked into Sphinx when I originally just wanted the Opale as a particularly lovely highlight shade… (I’m really terrible about getting sales-pressured into things! ?)
So, while I still don’t entirely know what to do with orangey duo-chrome sphinx, I knew from the second it was announced fed that I wanted–nay, NEEDED young adonis! And finally, FINALLY, I was lucky enough to get it! Now, I know that sounds silly, like all I had to do was order it, right? sure, but I, as an individual, am very mostly broke on the cash front. My beautiful beautiful boyfriend, however, took me for a day trip to nyc last weekend, which so amazingly coincidentally coincided with the grand opening of the WORLD’S BIGGEST SEPHORA(!!!)… and I was actually able to allow my small-town self the luxury of touching this wonder in person…. and… wow. I love me a good taupe-y shine, especially now if it’s in an easy to use cream! 🙂
I know this was a long comment, and I apologize, but girl, I’ve been feelin your posts lately, and I am still just so damn excited to have this obnoxiously overpriced work of art at my finger tips! thanks for the amazing reviews! 🙂
