Wow. Overnight, we went from 80-something degrees, t-shirts and shorts to me noticing the leaves changing colors on the oak trees outside. How’d that happen?
I miss summer already. When it’s over, I always feel like I didn’t do enough outside while it was hot, like I didn’t take enough advantage of it, but I did… I’m just sad to see it go.
At least we have boots…fall boots and fall makeup and fall sweaters and fall snacks. I’m definitely gonna be going to DSW more often.
Tabs is none too pleased about the changing seasons either. His little deck garden is on its last legs. There’s just not enough sun to keep the plants happy. The cat grass and zinnia, which are probably his two favorite things to snack on whenever he goes outside, are withering and starting to yellow, and now he nibbles on them disdainfully, as if he’s forcing down a bad salad because he thinks it’s healthy, but it’s all he has.
It’s so weird, but two days ago, this is how it looked in San Francisco. El Hub and I took the ferry in from Larkspur to watch the Blue Angels, and it was hot! I was walking around holding a bottle of water, and now it’s 20 degrees cooler, cloudy and smells like rain. Go figure.
Time to shift gears to Halloween and Thanksgiving. To get myself in the right mindset, I like to look back through my folder of kitty modeling ad campaigns that Tabs worked on in previous falls… 🙂
With so much snacking going on this time of year, Tabs feels it’s still important to stay in shape…
Is fall in full effect out there? Do you like it? Because I know a lot of people who like the cooler weather more than summer (um…I’m just not one of them).
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Right?? I live in Larkspur and work in Novato, and I was LOVING the weather today. I have to admit though that when I let my cat out for his morning stroll of our front porch he wasn’t the happiest with the windy weather….our poor cats 🙁 But YAY for boots and fall makeup!
Karen says
Tabs gets so fired up when it’s windy or rainy! There’s so much movement outside and leaves blowing around that his little kitty senses are on overdrive. I’m with you on the fall boots and makeup, but I’d like them without the accompanying overcast days, LOL! Whom do I talk to about that??
Debra says
Yes, Karen, I too went from shorts and the coolers on yesterday to the chilly feeling tonight! But I think it might warm up again here in the foothills of northern California.
My 2 cats did not like the wind & clouds, but I am okay with them. I like fall and I like changes of seasons, just not in 2 days!
Kim says
We’re weather opposites! It’s been quite fall-like for the last couple of weeks and today it’s supposed to be 78. Seventy.Eight! So I’ve gone back to shorts after nearly packing up all my summer stuff last weekend. Thankfully, I was lazy. 🙂
I’m sorry for you guys that summer (and patio garden season) is winding down. I love summer but also love fall. It’s much better for hiking and we’ll be getting our last hike of the year in on Sunday if the weather holds out (supposed to dip back into the 50s).
I love all Tabs’ past work and remember loving the “turkey” bottle. 🙂
Karen says
Seventy eight is darned near perfect, isn’t it? Not too hot, not cold at all. That’s just right.
Today I think our high is supposed to 70, and it looks like it’s going to rain a little. We might get another week or so before it’s too cold for the cat grass, but after that, Tabs will be living a salad-free lifestyle for a while.
How’s you week coming along?
Kim says
It was really nice! Today is supposed to be in the low 70s but it’s raining (looks like an all day affair). The week has been good. No sports Mon – Wed, so we were all in shock. Today is back to the grind and hockey officially starts tomorrow. 🙂
Poor Tabs – I have a feeling you’re in for some cranky days! Hang in there. No one ever said pet assisting was easy. 🙂
Karen says
Wait… no sports? What on earth did you guys do?
Kim says
HAHA! I know, right? The Hubs and I went on a double-date to the movies on Wed (which we haven’t done in over a year), which was nice. Tuesday he was out buying Halloween costumes and Monday the boys went to the movies with my mother (they were off for Columbus Day). So, I guess we were still running around but just not for sports. 😉 We had our parent/kid soccer game last night so I’m nursing a huge bump/bruise on the inside of my shin. I might be getting a little old for this. HAHA!
Melissa says
Cat lady question for you Karen, does Tabs throw up after he nibbles his salad? My cat Rambo usually throws up after snacking on plants, which has made his diet of salad a rare one. What do you usually do?
Ruchita says
Hi Melissa! Fellow cat lady here – my girl Ella usually throws up after eating grass. But my tabby boy Mingus eats quite a bit of grass and is usually fine. I think it just depends on the cat. Ella seems to have a bit of a senstive stomach and sometimes will throw up if I try different types of food. She loves eating grass, but I have to limit it.
Karen says
Hi, Melissa. Sometimes he will, but not usually. If he gorges himself, like when we go for walks in spring and the fresh grass is growing everywhere, he’ll throw up more often. I try to watch him when we’re outside together, but our vet doesn’t feel it’s a problem. He says that outdoor cats will eat grass and throw up all the time. I guess it’s just a cat thing.
Ruchita says
Fall is in full swing here in Ohio. The changing of the leaves is really pretty, but I’m not ready for full-on winter. There’s still plenty of grass in the front yard for Mingus to snack on. But that boy even loves going out in the snow. He’s an all weather cat. 🙂
MIMI says
Ruchita I have a cat named Mingy too! How funny 🙂 I wish he would go outside like yours and Karens but he seems to be a big baby when it comes to actually going outside.
Ruchita says
Cool, what a coincidence! Mingy is short for Mingus – actually Charles Mingus, who was a jazz musician. I actually wouldn’t mind if he didn’t like going out so much, because he spends a lot of time whining at me to open the door. 🙂
MIMI says
Haha.. we definitely must have the same taste cuz my boy is “Mr. Charlie Mingus” aka Mingy for short.. lol I very happy to find someone who gets & appreciates the name too 🙂
Ashleigh says
Silly Californians. Break out the parkas and uggs at 65 degrees :p
meanwhile here in minnesnowtah we have already had one night with snow flurries, a fri two weeks ago. The maple trees are all shades of bright yellow, neon orange and fiery red though, this is my all – time favorite part of the year!
Karen says
Haha! Yes, Ashleigh, we Californians have heard that before, and I don’t deny it. I am a total weather wuss, LOL! 🙂 It’s all relative, though, ya know? People seem to complain about the weather no matter where they live. My in-laws in Hawaii would complain about their weather ALL THE TIME. They lived on the rainy part of the island for a while, but still, it would be 80 degrees! I’d be on the phone with them thinking, “There is ice on my windshield right now. Please do not talk to me about how it’s raining over there right now.”
Shannon says
I never really loved fall until I moved to the east coast. Summer was ALWAYS my favorite season in the PNW, but here it’s hot and humid and sweaty and gross and basically nonstop uncomfortable. But fall… ah, fall is a breath of fresh air. So I’m way more into fall these days 🙂
Chris25 says
On the East Coast we have been enjoying cooler weather, but yesterday it was like summer! It was that warm and I was quite surprised.
Kiss & Make-up says
Fall has definitely begun here. And I don’t like it one bit! 🙁 And no, no amount of fall inspiration posts or ‘why I love fall’ tags will change that, lol.
Katie says
If fall means frequent appearances by that Ryan Tabsling for Korres GIF, Karen, I am ALL for it.
(In all seriousness, though: I’m a summer/winter lover, but fall is the best beauty season.)
Majick says
It’s autumn in NJ – but with 78 degree days I’ve been wearing my sweater INSIDE. I love the changing colors and the promise of Halloween but after that – take me right back to SUMMER!
Don’t get me wrong I love my boots but there is no law that says you cannot wear western boots ALL YEAR- I even have a pair of python ones with really cool cut outs. (ok, they get a little warm and mostly I’m a flip flop gal.)
I am happiest when things are lush and green and the days last forever. My cat Caliboosh loves to hang out in our garden. Her favorite spot is the iron basket that hangs off the house (we tried to plant it with flowers when we first got them but she took it over and it has been “her spot” for years. She particularly likes to lay in it when there is a storm. She just loves the rain – silly cat. But the house has an overhang so she can hang there, survey all who enter the yard, and not get wet (or even spotted, she blends. LOL)
Erin says
OMG that WERECAT! Love it!
It’s been fall here for a while but it kinda went the same way though we had a little “indian summer” period too. Fall here starts in August though 🙂
Ashleigh says
There should be a rule where Hawaiians aren’t allowed to complain about the weather, haha!
Also, there doesn’t seem to be a reply button on the android mobile version of this site. So sorry my reply is down here! ^^
Allison C says
I didn’t realize that any of the trees changed color in northern Cali. Silly me! We’re at just about peak foliage here in New England. Fortunately, the temperatures have gone back up to the 70s this week. Over the last few weeks, it’s been freezing and I’ve had to turn the heat on which I hate! I wish summer could last all year, but I guess I need to move…some day
MIMI says
Karen this is a great pic of your cat! I wish my outdoor space looked that nice. These ads are hysterical.. just noticed the whole Korres 1 in action, if only these were real.
