Don’t you hate it when you show up to the Halloween party and see someone across the room wearing what looks like the EXACT same outfit?
“Nah,” you think. “There’s no way! What are the odds!?”
But then you sneak across the room to take a closer look…
And you realize that it’s not the EXACT same outfit (thank goodness!). It’s close, but hey, at least you both have great style! 🙂 Before you know it, you’re talking shop and taking selfies by the punch bowl…
Er…I guess I’m dressing up as Pregnant Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony for Halloween this year, LOL!
I mean, I don’t even know where to start with this costume. You know you’re doing it right, though, when you walk into the room, and your significant other says, “You look absolutely ridiculous.”
Since there’s a LOT going on here in terms of all the teal, the faux fur and the rainbows and pony ears (!), I paired the bright blueish teal smoky eye with nude cheeks and lips.
You know…to keep from going OTT. 🙂
Here’s the main makeup…
- EYESHADOW: Urban Decay Evidence (the shimmery blue on the lids), Urban Decay Deep End (the bright teal in inner corner), Dolce & Gabbana Ocean (the matte greenish blue in the crease), NARS Dogon II (the satiny gray blue in the outer corner) and NARS Pandora (lash lines)
- EYELINER: Urban Decay 24-7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Chaos
- LASHES: Salon Perfect Demi Wispies False Lashes
- CHEEKS: MAC Gingerly Blush
- LIPS: MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Oh Honey, MAC Cremesheen in Creme D’Nude and MAC Plushglass in Big Baby
For great costume ideas —-> Party City. That’s where I got this one.
So! That’s what I’m wearing to hand out candy this year (and to startle the neighborhood children). 🙂 I expect to see some very surprised faces when I open the door and shout, “Boo!”
How ’bout you? If you’re dressing up this year, do you have your costume picked out? Time is running out!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Arianne says
Hahhaahaha so cute!
That lip combo is the best nude lip combo ever! BRB while I buy Oh Honey, Creme d’Nude and Big Baby.
Karen says
You need it in your life ASAP. It looks great when it’s worn without a pony costume, HAHA!
Lauren S. says
Love this costume, Karen! I wish I could look as you and Rainbow Dash all year round! 🙂
Karen says
Thanks Lauren S.! Wouldn’t it be fun if we could dress up like it was Halloween all year round?
Are you wearing a costume this year, by the way?
Tulipthecat says
My niece is going to be Rainbow Dash for Halloween too!!!
Karen says
She has great taste, LOL! Will you be helping her with her makeup? 🙂
And are you dressing up this year?
Sarah says
Hi Karen,
You are so funny! I love your post. Great costume.
XOXO
Sarah, Vin, Maggie, Duff, and Homer!
Karen says
Thanks, Sarah! Are you and/or the kitties dressing up? Tabs is going as a sassy mermaid. He has a tail and a shell bra top, haha!
anusha says
U r rocking that nude lip like no one can ever!! Gorgeous blue and teal eyes.. pretty n colourful.. 🙂 happy Halloween!
Karen says
Hi Anusha,
Thank you! Happy Halloween to you too. Are you dressing up this year?
anusha says
Hii karen..i’m from India.. we don’t celebrate halloween here.. but it’s so much fun, right! U and baby girl have fun!!
CrystalCandy says
Haa you’re so cute!!
Karen says
Thanks Crystal Candy! What are you dressing up as this year?
MonicaP says
Now that’s a super FUN costume! Very colorful 🙂
Monica.
Karen says
Thanks, Monica! I owe it all to Rainbow Dash. 😉
Kwmechelle says
But why is that eyeshadow look pretty, though?! Super cute costume. And you make a lovely pony. My niece & nephew will be here for Halloween & I’m fur-sitting for the cutest golden doodle ever. She’s only 1 so she’s still a pup but she looks like a big poodle! She may be joining us for trick or treating this year. Looking at your costume makes me want to join in on the fun & dress up. Not sure what my niece is dressing up as but I’m totes looking forward to it. 🙂
Karen says
Thank you! Although it feels like Rainbow Dash is saying, “B*tch stole my look!” LOL
How fun that you get to be with your niece and nephew AND a cutie pie puppy dog! You guys are going to have a great Halloween. Of course you have to dress up too, even if it’s just dipping your lids in glitter from lash line to brow bone. AMIRIGHT?
Kwmechelle says
“B*tch stole my look!” Classic! I LOVE IT! And, yes, you’re right. Gonna rock some glitter eyeshadow & maybe get the doggie an outfit, too. 🙂
Karen says
So fun! 🙂 Please save the mini Snickers for me!!
Holly says
You are just precious in that costume & totally rocking it!! My one niece told her mom that she wanted to be Princess Incredible Hulk so my sister-in-law found the right costume pieces for her & her little sister who is going as Princess Bruce Banner. Now I wish I had a costume!
Karen says
Well that’s about the cutest costume I’ve ever heard. So much creativity!
Chelsea says
I dressed as a fairy last week! I might put together a planet costume for the Star Wars theme at work (pretty easy, just get a big sweatshirt and cut off the sleeves, add my star patterned leggings) – I was thinking I’d use my hula hoops as rings as an excuse to hula hoop at work. But, I might just do fairy again and say screw the theme! (I voted for Harry Potter, which lost by 2 votes)
Karen says
Eh, just go as a fairy! Might as well wear what you really want to, ya know?
Louise says
So fun! I probably won’t be dressing up, they don’t really celebrate Halloween here in Australia 🙁
Karen says
I think you should start a trend!
Shreya says
This outfit and makeup shouts fun and cuteness at the same time … loved it :*
Karen says
Aww, thanks Shreya! Happy early Halloween to you.
Kiss & Make-up says
Oh my gosh, so cute, I love it 😀
Karen says
Thank you!
Agata says
This is adorable and your blue smokey eye looks fantastic.
I have a party to go to on Friday and I still don’t have a costume :-/
Karen says
Thanks lady! Have you figured out your costume yet? If push comes to shove you can always dress up as a cat. Wear all black, grab some ears and draw a nose and whiskers on your face. Super easy!
Ruchita says
Great outfit! I had no idea Party City had adult costumes. I might need to check them out. I love the eye makeup too. Perfectly coordinated! 🙂
Karen says
They have a huge selection of costumes for adults! Some of it is super cheesy (“Sexy INSERT RANDOM PROFESSION HERE”) but you can find some cool stuff. The one near my house has tons of Halloween decorations, too. Oh, and PET COSTUMES!
Nicole says
You look great! I love it! Incredible job Karen. The makeup here is stunning!
Karen says
Thanks, Nicole! Are you dressing up for Halloween?
Nicole says
No,no this year. I haven’t the past couple of years. Just not been in the mood. No parties and nothing fun around me anymore to do for “big people”. My daughter is going as a girl minion and my dog is a taco!
Karen says
I hear ya. It took me a while to get into the spirit. I’ll show up for the candy though (I’m all about the Mini Snickers).
How cute that both your daughter and your dog are dressing up. Do you guys go trick-or-treating around the neighborhood? Where I live we get a few trick-or-treaters, usually 2-3 big groups of kids that come at once.
Nicole says
Yeah, I think next year I should dress up too. She’s getting big on me. Almost at the age where she doesn’t want mom around anymore. It’s heartbreaking and so less tiring at the same time! You will get it one day soon!
We actually go to my sister’s neighborhood. She has a big party for kids and the parents who want to stay, hang out and have some cocktails. She lives around the corner. So, they are all in the same school. My sister has a boy dog. So my girl dog hangs out with hers. Oh, we didn’t leave our cat out! Stripey has a race car costume. It looks like a care with a little mouse riding her back. lol! She will not walk with it on though. Jus crouches down. She looses the race every time. 🙂
Karen says
Aww, I’m already dreading the day Baby Girl turns into a tween and starts asking mom to drop her off at the corner. 🙁 I can’t handle it!!
How lucky you are to have your sis live right around the corner. My brother is a bridge away and I never see him. It must be nice to pop over there whenever you want.
And LOL regarding Stripey’s race car costume. At least she’s in the race?! Have you tried bribing her with treats? That always works with Tabs.
Kim says
I love everything about this costume! We went to a party last weekend and someone was dressed like Lord Business from the Lego movie. I was hoping his wife would be UniKitty but, no such luck. Rainbow Dash is a close 2nd. 🙂 I was the Tootsie Pop Owl and the Hubs was, of course, a Tootsie Pop.
Karen says
How cute! Did you guys make your own costumes or did you get them from a shop?
LindaLibraLoca says
That is so cute! Especially the faces you pull to illustrate your story.
Karen says
Thank you!
dorit says
Omgosh, you look BEYOND cute. Now I want to celebrate Halloween to dress up as a MLP!
Speaking of costumes, my beauty partner in crime and I did your Fall Favourites Tag! Thank you for the inspo!
Karen says
Glad you enjoyed the post! And yay for fall faves. 🙂
Jessica says
That costume is awesome! Completely ridiculous, but that is the best thing about it!!
Karen says
It’s way beyond ridiculous but so fun! Now if only I could find a matching one for Tabs, haha!
Rosemary says
When your significant other says that you look absolutely ridiculous, you know you’ve done your job well. Congrats on a galloping good look. 😉
p.s. White sequined tennis shoes (something I’m on the hunt for) would have added some sparkle to your hooves.
Karen says
That’s a great idea Rosemary! If you can’t find white sequined tennis shoes, you can also try getting some white canvas shoes, coating them in glue, and dipping them in glitter. I’m thinking about doing that. 🙂
yelena says
omg I love this costume! and I love love LOVE your makeup!
I wish I could recreate that and have it look so beautiful!
Karen says
You can do it! If you can do smoky eyes you can rock this look. It’s your basic smoky shadow placement — all you have to do is sub your brown, gray and black shades for different shades of blue. It helps to do a matte blue in the crease for contrast and either a satiny dark gray or a matte dark gray in the outer corner. YOU CAN DO IT!
kellly says
TOOOOOOOooo adorable! The costume, the photos, your expressions, the story, the makeup — it’s just wonderful!!!
Karen says
Thank you, Kelly! Happy early Halloween to you, by the way. Are you dressing up this year?
Iris says
Love this post and your costume is adorable!
Karen says
Thanks Iris!
Tatiana says
You are too cute! I love that costume and I’d wear it too, just to have an excuse to do a beautiful blue shadow look like the one you did. Absolutely gorgeous.
I’ve never worked up the nerve to wear blue eye shadow.
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
You can do blue! If you’re ready for eyeshadow, how about a little bit of blue liner? You could do a thin line on the upper lash line. And if it still feels like too much, you can smudge the edges so that it looks more like a hint of blue. YOU CAN DO IT!!! 😀
denise S says
Cute costume! Love the eye shadow too. I’m wearing one of my Halloween tee shirts to give out candy.
Karen says
How fun! Do you get a lot of trick-or-treaters? We usually get 2-3 huge groups of kids early in the evening, and that’s it.
Trude says
LOL I love this! Not only for your expressions but that costume is pretty damn amazing. 🙂 And I think it may be time for an updated foundation routine post – you look so flawless!!
Karen says
Hi Trude,
Thanks for noticing because I did do something different! I used a thin layer of Diorskin Nude Air Serum as a base and Sephora Future Gel Serum Concealer sparingly on my cheeks, around my mouth, on my jawline and my nose. Blended it all together with a BeautyBlender, then set it with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. 🙂
Happy Tuesday to ya! Have you decided on your engagement photo outfit yet?
Trude says
I think I have! I realized I should probably follow my own advice – I always tell clients to wear something they feel good and comfortable in that doesn’t distract too much from their lovely faces. So I think I’ll be wearing my fave cute jeans with a fave top and booties. 🙂 If it ain’t broke, right? 😉
Thanks for dishing on what you did! I’m obsessed with MSF, use it every day!
Mary says
Fabulous look!! lol re the hubs comment.
Karen says
Thanks, Mary! I feel kind of silly but it’s Halloween so why not?
Do you have a costume lined up yet?
Pamela Haddad says
You look adorable, Karen! And you are gonna be one fun mom!! LOVE LOVE LOVE the eyeshadow!!! (& my little pony)
Karen says
I hope so, Pamela. 🙂
So, are you and Simba dressing up for Halloween?
Erin says
Wow… that’s all I can say! I’d be tempted to wear this around the house like PJ’s though. Great makeup look to go with the outfit though.
Pamela Haddad says
No, we don’t celebrate.
Karen says
Ah, OK. Well, tell Simba hi for me and give him a chin scratch. 🙂
Pamela Haddad says
I will! He loves that! And he wants his face petted, probably to mark me with his scent glands around his mouth. Does Tabs ever do that? Simba is the only cat that I’ve ever had that likes that. Have a good night!
Karen says
Yes! He loves having his cheek pet, and sometimes he’s really aggressive about it. Gotta love our crazy cats. 🙂
Renee says
Love the costume! And Urban Decay Evidence is about the prettiest eyeshadow that I have seen…wow.
Lena says
You goofball! I had a great laught this morning. Have a good weekend, my lovely.
Channal says
So cute… and you are so beautiful!
