I love El Hub to bits, but “Great Caesar’s ghost!” — I wish I could get that man to trim his toenails.
It drives me absolutely freakin’ crazy! They’re like Wolverine’s claws, and sometimes in bed when our feet cross paths, he’ll actually scratch my legs!
On the one hand/claw, they’ve come in handy for certain things like April Fool’s pranks, but I can’t take it anymore. They’re one of the banes of my existence. I have no idea why this man, who is generally clean for a straight guy who doesn’t really care about grooming, has toenails this long. He says he just forgets to cut them, but how can that be? — because the moment I notice that my toenails have gotten even the slightest bit long, they start to bother me.
So this is my longwinded way of saying that I wish El Hub would just cut his damn toenails already.
How about you? Does your significant other have any grooming habits you wish you could change?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF! ?

Not exactly. I wish he was a little more into skincare, like using cleansers and the likes, but other than that it is acceptable.

Karen, I thought it was just me! My husband is notorious for not cutting his toe nails as well. I’ve been a victim of them a few times (I have the scratch marks to prove it!). Surprisingly though, he almost always tags along when I go get a pedicure. He especially loves the paraffin foot treatment!

Oh yea, every year he stops shaving in October and doesn’t shave until mid-April, he doesn’t get a hair cut either. We live in Vermont and he works at a ski resort on the mountain and he does this for warmth. I’m fortunate because he’s a very clean man and keeps his beard and hair clean and fluffy but wow – in mid-April he looks like Santa! Not the Easter Bunny.

Yeah, toenails and nails in general. Mine will clip his when I mention that I’m getting clawed at night. But he leaves these strange hanging out corners which are just as bad. Does the same thing when he clips his finger nails. Straight across so there are these sharp corners which seem to jab at me at every chance. Other than that, my guy is good to go. Shaves, showers and shampoos daily. And is the sweetest, kindest man on the planet.

OMG. He refuses to clean is shaving bits out of the sink!
He refuses to take care of his skin too. Drives me crazy. I finally have him wearing sunscreen on days he knows he’ll be out all day!

i wish he would improve his skincare. ughh.

My husband is like that with his toenails too. He is also not very good about keeping up with haircuts.

Oddly, my hub has impeccable hygiene/grooming habits, but is a total slob around the house. Which drives me insane.

Hahaha! Karen, the moment I saw the photo at the top of this article, I knew it was gonna be a good one. ?
I lucked out with my current squeeze, actually! He sometimes moisturizes with things that horrify me (a Body Shop Body Sorbet? On his FACE??), but he’ll listen to me on pretty much all matters skincare and beauty. Now I just need to find him the perfect silicone-free skincare regimen for acne-prone skin!

You know, I can’t think of anything that bothers me. My husband actually buys more expensive skin care products than I do – Lab Series and Jack Black, while I mostly stick to drugstore products. But they seem to work, because he does manage to get a really good shave and he’s good about wearing sunscreen on a daily basis.

My girlfriend doesn’t wash her face. Really. She has pretty average skin, no acne or the like, but she just washes her face when she takes a shower! That means that there’s days (when she’s in a time crunch, for example) when she doesn’t wash it at all! She is very clean in every other aspect: teeth, nails, etc., but that thing about her face drives me CRAZY! I’m a girl with a Korean-like skincare routine, which means I cleanse my face very carefully and with lots of products, so it’s almost impossible for me to imagine anyone going out without even splashing water on their face. And, well, she DOES complain about her blackheads (she has a lot on her nose) and asks me for products to help her with them, but I’m pretty sure none of them (not the masks, the nose strips… Anything) will work if she never even cleanses her face!

When we first got married, my husband used to take a shower and THEN do yardwork and take another shower. Now he just takes his shower after yardwork.
The one thing he does that drives me crazy is he will step out of the bathroom to talk to me and q-tip his ears in front of me. Drives me nuts!

Oh my goodness! That would bother me a lot too – I have an aversion long nails on guys! I had a boyfriend once who would wash his face with soap and not moisturize, even when his skin got so dry it was flaky *shudder*

I love my hubby…however…he’s a nail biter and also a nail ripper! He’s got really thin toe nails so he just rips them off willy nilly. It’s so icky. I’ve even bought him his own nail clippers and I’ll point them out to him when he starts up, but then he’s just like “oh yeah, I know.” Um, then just use them please?!

HIS FINGERNAILS.
Instead of cutting them properly, he just hacks at them and leaves them in sharp angles, which he then bites into shape. He does the same thing with his cuticles, so he’s got tons of little cuts and scabs from where he used his teeth to tear off little pieces of skin. Drives me nuts.
One of these days I’ll trick him into getting a proper manicure.

He shaves his head in the bathroom, instead of going to a hairdresser. Somehow, he never manages to clean it all up – just the big bits. So I wind up finding bits of hair for weeks afterward. Such a pain!

My husband is bad about trimming his toenails, too. I wish he’d keep up better with trimming his beard. He shaved it all off a couple days ago, but he gets 5 o’clock shadow within hours after shaving, and it takes no time to be a full beard again. I’m not a fan of facial hair, TBH, but he likes it.
Chelsea says
My husband has gotten better about this, but he haaaates haircuts. Like, he’d get his hair cut, and then leave it alone for 2 years until he worked up the courage to get another haircut! We bought a set of clippers though, and he doesn’t mind doing it himself.
Leslie says
LOL the toenails!! OMG I as just complaining to my fiance about his… He never cuts them, and then when he does, he cuts them so crooked that they’re sharp and grow in poorly ugh!! Also, he’s terrible about using face products and sunscreen :/ So stubborn!

?Hi Karen,
YES!
He leaves a GIANT towel on the sink folded like a taco for 46 years of marriage !?
Even my son reamarked about it !
I asked him one time : what is the expiration time on that towel?
He didn’t get it !

You look stunning in your pic! Lavender is your color! My hubby is actually very clean and groomed. Years ago he was in the army, so his hair is always cut short to this day, and he takes 2 showers a day. However, he cuts his nails in the back yard so they don’t fly around in the bathroom, and that drives me nuts!
Sherry says
His eyebrows. He has big, bushy eyebrows and there is one extremely long eyebrow hair. I just want to trim them so bad

My husband has the toenail thing too. I also get scratched in bed. To make matters worse, his toes are curved downward do his nails touch the floor. Getting stepped on when he’s barefoot is the worst. We call them his talons. Unfortunately my son inherited his toes. Some poor girl will have a similar fate I fear.

Catching up on my reading and found this thread too funny not to comment. My husband is pretty meticulous about grooming…but he’s terrible about skincare and it drives me crazy. He’s a willing participant in sunscreen if I remind him, but we’ve gotten into fights about wearing hats if he’s going to be out in direct sun for hours. And he refuses to moisturize. He’ll do it in the winter when his skin starts to flake, but in the summer he claims it’s “too humid.” I even bought him that Nivea in-shower lotion and he won’t use it. Drives. Me. Crazy.

I thought my hubby was the only one who does this! It drives me crazy! Glad to know someone else out there has the same problems!

Omg Karen you are hilarious! I love your posts. Thanks for being so honest and down to earth! You truly are the girl next door!
