Comment to Win a $50 eGift Card From Sephora! (Ends Monday)

Published in: Giveaways, Just For Fun

This giveaway is closed, and the winner has been contacted (CONGRATULATIONS, STORMY!!!), but check back next Saturday for another Sephora giveaway.

Win a $50 Sephora e-gift card

Someone’s a sleepy sheepy this morning. Zzzz…

Rise and shine, morning glory! I was just getting some nice “mommy and toygy time” (pronounced: toy-ɡē) in bed, which is what I call it when Tabs lavishes me with lurvies, but now it’s time to get up. After all, someone’s gotta man the tabby command center’s first watch and make sure that none of the neighborhood cats are invading the property.

In other news, we may drive out to the East Bay today to visit my parents and hit up a couple of furniture stores. I desperately need some kind of storage cabinet and a new bedroom dresser. The drawers on mine don’t even close anymore (and it’s so annoying).

I hope it’s sunny where you are, my friend. 🙂 Good luck in the giveaway, and I’ll talk to you soon.

My bath towels are Leopard! I love ’em!!!!

    • Ruth says:

I am currently in grad school so I am taking classes about fluency disorders. My bath towels are all mismatched and bright cause the bright colors go on sale before the neutrals.

I can’t wait until extreme contouring goes away! I know, I’m gonna be waiting a while 🙂

The most resent class I took was a Mac cosmetics master class. Learnt so much from Fatima Thomas!

Yeah, contouring can make an exit soon.

  16. Mich says:

    Good luck everyone!

  17. jaclyn says:

I love this contest, so easy to enter!

The makeup trend I wish would go away is contouring. I find it a bit ridiculous for real life!

Another makeup “trend” I wish would go away is TV showing scenes with women in bed with full makeup on. Everyone knows not to go to bed with your makeup on! Example: Parenthood. Why is TV so afraid of showing an actress fresh faced? I think it is a subtle form of sexism.

Hope I win! I’m a makeup newbie so $50 would help with my experiments. 🙂 love your blog and voice. Keep it up, sister!

  18. Tracey says:

I used to climb trees all the time when I was younger. I tried it out again at a botanical garden with my kids!

  22. Berry says:

  23. Bryn says:

I’ll talk about makeup I’m using now…I can’t stop using my original Naked Palette or tarte’s LipSurgence in Blushing Bride!

  24. sienna says:

I don’t think I’ve ever climbed a tree! Also, very ready for extremely contoured makeup to go away.

  25. Someone above mentioned extreme contouring. I was reading on another beauty site about how women come in asking for the Kardashin look, which is all about extreme contouring. 1. Color me dumbstruck because I didn’t realize they contoured that much. 2. Isn’t there something very 1980s about extreme contouring? (Did I just age myself?)

  26. Inez says:

I know most people are probably going to go contouring here, but I wish the Jenner-style overdrawn lips would go away. Its one thing to overdraw (I’m all for that), but the idea is to have it be believable! See some girls and they’ve got two different mouth shapes at the same time.

Also I’m really into watching the snow melt right now…..come on spring!

  27. Devis says:

I’m over the extremely light concealer (5 shades too light) under the eyes! I think it makes your eyes look smaller than “awake”.

  28. Stormy says:

Love what you did with the gif! Super cool!

  29. NLM8 says:

Happy Caturday! Im not a fan of pointy nails.. Looks a bit vampirish and heaven forbid you need to scratch your face!

  30. astou says:

The makeup trend i wish would just go away is defenitly the eye-brow trend !
First time i saw it i thought it was a mistake… but then i saw tones of youtubers with those same perfect but kind of fake-so-weird-unatural eye-brows like drag-queens does.

  31. gabis says:

Hahaha love <3 this post's gif xD

  32. Colleen Boudreau says:

I used to climb trees all the time when I was a kid.

  33. Remi says:

I love climbing trees. The last time was.. July. The last class I took was.. umm.. Structural Elucidation Methods of Organic Molecules (Chem 70something). It was super fun.

  34. Lauren says:

What a nice giveaway! My favorite bath towels are from restoration hardware in several shades of blue. They are soft and thick, but not linty.

  35. Icequeen81 says:

love face off I have watched it a couple of times when we visit my father in law. Love their imagination , and all the costumes

  36. Stephanie says:

Ha, I don’t have much new to add. I agree with contouring & overdone eyebrows. It just doesn’t look right.

I just bought my cats a new water fountain. I am not sure who likes it more, me or them.

  37. Maria J. says:

The Color of my Bath towels at the moment are a Deep Neptune color.

  38. BB says:

I’ve probably tried to climb a tree but know I never have!

  39. Marilyn says:

My towels are blue & purple. Thanks as always for the contest!

  40. Holly says:

One of the last classes I took was a Mediterranean cooking class. We split up into teams & made various dishes which we shared at the end of the session. We made spanakopita, Greek cookies called koulourakia, baked fish on a bed of roasted tomatoes & onions, and several other delicious dishes. Since I’m a self-taught cook, it’s nice to learn from people who are trained in a specific cuisine or technique. More recently, I took a class on lacto-fermentation (like making kimchi & sauerkraut) and a bread-making class. Yum! I just made myself hungry!

  41. Pam says:

Our towels are white — boring I know!

  42. Pamela Gard says:

Contouring can be a blessing and a curse. Too much on eyebrows tends to be the only part of the face that is standing out to people, so they focus on “the too much”

  43. Michelle says:

My bath towels are sea foam green 🙂

  44. Farzana Islam says:

I recently started gym and now I do Zumba and yoga classes!! They are really fun! ^_^

  45. Margarita says:

  53. Fran says:

The last class I took was a Zumba class. It was great fun, but I couldn’t keep up, so no on was surprised when I finally dropped out!

I’m tired of almost every eyeshadow palette consisting of warm neutrals. I like bright colors and cooler tones!

  54. Martisa says:

My bath towels are blue and black zebra print along with my shower curtain & soap dispenser. Everything else is black.

I also agree contouring can definitely exit the scene 😀

I’m looking forward to seeing the Cinderella Movie. I was interested in some of the Mac Cinderella makeup but it sold out right away.

  59. Gloria Jackson-Nefertiti says:

The one makeup trend I really wish would “just go away already” is this particular manicure, and I’m not sure what it’s called. Maybe it’s an anti-French manicure! I just know that the top of the nails are colored black instead of white, so it’s opposite of a French manicure. When they’re colored black, they look dirty to me! Ugh!

  60. Amanda P. says:

Hope things are lovely where you are! I am about to get about another foot of snow tomorrow where I am 🙁 eek! Also would love to recommend and hear your thoughts on The Body Shop Instablur – literally best primer I have ever tried!! Have a great day 🙂

  67. Celia says:

Just got back from a run (did not wear makeup and this is progress for me even if I wore sunglasses)- I’ve been using my iPhone stopwatch to keep track of my pace, and three miles in I accidentally hit reset instead of lap! Ugh! This is, like, the fifth time this happens to me, haha. Oh well. That’s my random comment 🙂

  69. Lisa says:

the perfect way to combat a very slow to arrive spring is a peachy coral manicure. it’s super gray and rainy here today but every time i look at the pop of color on my hands it makes me smile!

  70. Becca says:

    Love me some march madness!!!

  71. Sophie says:

    I’ve a random comment
I hate it that all the beautybloggers talk about cool make-up brands they don’t sell in Belgium, so each time I go on a trip, I do research about the make-up stores of that city and I buy a lot of make-up in one time 😀

  72. Bayley says:

When I was little we had an apple tree in my front yard, and I would climb that all the time!

  73. felinegroovey says:

  75. Hah, I love the randomness of that last question 🙂 Our bath towels are gray. Dark and light gray.

hsppy Saturday- it’s hot in So. California So we’ll be going for a dip in the pool! I wish contouring & pointy manicures would go away- too much for me!

  82. Tracey B. says:

I had a recent makeup consultation with my fave Bobbi Brown expert. She brings me out of my comfort zone and we build a look that is natural and current to the season. She reminds me of basic application techniques, too. Despite having pink blush on one cheek and coral on another (I bought both)and bold lip color that taunts spring to come, I left feeling beautiful and confident that I could replicate at home. What a feeling!

  83. Karen says:

  174. amy pugmire says:

My bath towels are tiffany blue and tan.

  175. Claudia Cojal says:

I learned English three years ago and I’m improving more and more every single day. My french started also recently. So excited I will become trilingual!

  176. Teri P says:

I don’t know what Face Off is. I’ve never climbed a tree. I took a phone etiquette class and would practice my answering skills on a tape player, which was entertaining to listen to! My guest bath towels are white and mine our gold and brown. I Don’t go out with coworkers after work. Makeup trend that I wish would go away is glittery powder!!

  177. Lisa Q says:

The last class I took was a Property Management class back in the spring of 2014, nd it was much more interesting than I thought it would be 🙂

The 2 make up trends I wish would go away are extreme contouring and the drawn in eyebrow sculpting.

  178. Chelsea M says:

I have never climbed a tree. Stood in one but never climbed up one maybe out to a limb but that’s about it. Pretty weird, however I don’t like heights. And I have no athletics skills.

  179. Wendi S says:

I would love to have grey or tan bath towels for my new home we are moving to. We will have to see though. Once you move your broke for a while so I will have to probably wait.

  180. Heather ツ says:

I wish winged liquid eye liner would go away but that could be for the simple fact that I can’t “do” my liner….

  181. Courtney says:

The last class I’ve been taking is one to become a personal trainer. Still haven’t completed it…but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  182. Rose says:

Climbed a tree? Or attempted to climb a tree? For me those are two very different things!

  183. Laurinha says:

Hi Karen! Hv a nice weekend!

  184. Marisa says:

Well I’m an architecture student so I’ve been taking all kinds of classes, but I’m currently studying for my enclosures final, which is all about building envelopes i.e. control layers (water/air/vapor), insulation, glazing, cladding, etc. Jealous? 😉

  185. Racquel says:

I love face off! I don’t know how much I like the team and coach aspect of this season (even though they brought back Laura who is my fav!). The alien beauty pageant has been my favorite challenge of the season 🙂

  186. Doreena says:

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Crazy rain here on Long Island!

  187. Taylor says:

My towels are usually bright happy colors, I tried black but they kept shedding on me!

But I’m really excited for you because I LOVE furniture shopping!! Have fun!

And ladies pls stop overdrawing your lips. Some people can fool the eye well but if you’re not one of them thennnnnn it looks like a mess 🙁

  188. Irene says:

I noticed you’ve been posting a lot more videos on YouTube lately. Love it! But also sad because I gave up YouTube for lent, so I won’t be able to watch them for a few more weeks. 🙁 But can’t wait to binge watch! 🙂

  189. Georgia L says:

I’m looking forward to the “Nude” trend fading out,I feel like it’s just been done to death and there’s nowhere else they can go with it.As someone who wears wears rainbow bright eyeshadow and lipsticks it gets a bit frustrating when EVERY company’s new release is another nude palette.

  190. Meghan says:

One of my coworkers is my spouse & so yes we definitely see each other outside of work!

  191. Ellen says:

Undead lips. I can’t pull off concealer-like lipstick, and really don’t think it flatters that many people…

  192. Mary says:

I love how you showed all the colors of the Nars nail polish! fab. tks for all of the pics of our darlin tabs.

  193. Jennifer says:

The whole eyebrow debate is getting old.

  194. Elena says:

I used to watch face off but I am so behind. The last class I took was a leadership course…and one makeup trend I wish would disappear is contouring. I get sculpting your face, but some of it seems so extreme/overdone/way too much effort that I just prefer a subtle approach to it!

  195. Leah says:

We had a wonderful maple tree for climbing in my backyard growing up!

  196. Lori P says:

Trends I wish would go away…beige looking nude lips (looks horrible on me), contouring/highlighting (I have an extremely round face so it doesn’t work on me and I think highlighting makes people faces look oily) and cat wing lined eyes (if you have small, hooded eyes like mine…eye liner doesn’t show up at all).

On a good note…I just put in my first MAC order this morning and I am so excited to get it. I just wish there was a MAC store in Oklahoma but there is not and I’m leery of going to the MAC counter in Dillards.

  197. Kayla says:

I love the show Face Off! My husband and I watch it every Tuesday night. It’s something that involves makeup that we can both get into!

  198. Sandy says:

Karen, I love reading your blog. And when I die I want to come back as YOU! You seem to have it all together as well as being beautiful!! Okay….winged eyes can go far away. I have enough trouble with just putting on regular eyeliner. I feel like a child and a crayon and I am sure it looks that way too.

  199. Carissa says:

I DO watch FaceOff and I love it!! I find the creativity and artistry of the contestants inspiring! And they are always really nice to one another, which is a refreshing break from all of the reality shows where everyone is so nasty to one another.

  200. Justine says:

The one fashion trend I really wish would just go away already is exposed zippers, especially exposed back zippers on dresses and skirts.

  201. Helen N says:

The weather was rainy all day. I was pretty upset since it is Saturday and couldn’t really do anything 🙁

  202. Susan P. says:

I wish the nude or really pale lip would go away. Not very flattering on most people.

  203. Shameem says:

I do not watch face off, hang out with my co-workers outside work and I have never climbed a tree! My last class was almost 2-3 months ago on Finance. I use a robe instead of a bath towel, its color is light pink.

One more info, I am a crazy cat lady.

  204. Mardi says:

I don’t wish for any make up trends to go away – if someone wants Instagram brows, Youtube eyeshadow or Kardashian level contouring then each to their own I say. But one trend I wish would INCREASE is people being aware of brands that test or allow testing of their products on animals. As consumers we can all make a difference and their are plenty of cruelty free brands out there. There are so many brands available that are cruelty free and we can stop using MAC, Estee Lauder, Makeup Forever, and many others and send the message that we won’t tolerate cruelty to our furry friends. Use Nars, Urban Decay, Laura Mercier, Makeup Geek, REN, Alpha-H and many, many more instead and show you care about animals!

  205. Mary says:

My bath towels are white 🙂

  206. Lizbeth Hernandez Montoy says:

My towels are purple!!! I love the color purple!

  207. Laurn krauss says:

Love faceoff! Have you seen this weeks yet? It’s spectacular!

  208. Krystie says:

The last class that I took was a beginner’s yoga class at my college recreation center and I really loved it! I am going to try to incorporate the practice into my daily routine. Hopefully I’ll build up to a handstand soon. 🙂

  209. Morgan says:

At the moment, I am between my bachelors degree and going back for my masters degree and thus am just working. However, I love school and love learning so I have been taking these absolutely free courses from a site which offers hundreds of courses on different topics from different universities all over the world. I just finished three courses called Learning How to Learn through UCSD, Interprofessional Healthcare Informatics through the University of Minnesota, and Epidemiology through UNC. I’m currently taking Foundations of Business Strategy through UVA and Chemicals and Health through Johns Hopkins. Strangely enough, the first unit in Chemicals and Health had to do with cosmetics! It was very interesting but a little scary in terms of some of the info that they provided about how little oversight there is on the cosmetics industry. There is even a course called Managing Fashion and Luxury Companies ( for anyone out there that may be interested in checking these classes out. They’re great resume builders and are short term so they’re really made for those of us with other things going on in our lives! That’s part of why I love your blog so much–I can read it in my spare time and there’s so many great tips and tricks for those of us that don’t have hours a day to spend on hair and makeup. Thanks for the opportunity and keep up the amazing work!

  210. Valeria says:

My bath towels are teal color!! Love them soo much 😀

  211. Amy says:

That is awesome! Yes I have climbed a tree or two, in my day. I am not as good at it as Simba, Baggy and Tazz, but I did OK. Hope you and Tabs have a great weekend!

  216. Michaela says:

One of the last classes I took was a flamenco class. It looked so easy because it’s all in the feet, but was I wrong. Just when I got the hang of it, I quit. The lessons was quite expensive.

  217. Chelsea E. says:

My bath towels are coral-y orange, teal, and magenta. Hehe 🙂

  218. RedWeatherTiger says:

Sure, I have climbed lots of trees. Trees are our friends!

Karen, I’m loving all your videos lately. Keep ’em coming. I even bought that MAC x15 palette because you raved about it–I got the Cool one. I used it today for the first time, and LOVE. Thanks!

  219. Meahlyn says:

    Hi Karen!

I used to watch faceoff but then I got too busy with school/work. On top of that, I already had other shows on DVR. All the contestants are so inspirational and very talented.

I hope tomorrow Tab’s will let you sleep in, you’re a hard worker. ☺

  224. Vanessa says:

I’ve been lucky enough to have many co-workers who were also personal friends.

  225. Suzanne C says:

I wish the whole cat-eye eyeliner thing would go away, and take contouring with it. Mostly because I can’t do either, lol! But seriously, why does everyone want to look like Kim Kardashian? That contouring tutorial is all over Pinterest. Ick.

  228. Tashia T says:

The one beauty trend I wish would go away is extreme contouring. I don’t mind a subtle daily contor but some people get way to carried away. Enhance your features but don’t change them.

  233. Liza says:

Thank god for spring break! Just had a wonderful relaxing week of bingeing Greys Anatomy! The best part though was i finally had access to Nordstrom and come to find out my foundation was way too dark! I had of course noticed this but thought it was just because of winter but no come to find out Sephora color matched me way off! They had be in Dior 21 but turns out my best match was a 10! Like what the world Sephora? Have i been a pumpkin for the past few months? Totally angry but whatever. So of course i used this as an excuse to buy a new foundation so i got the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet in 10 and WOW OMG AMAZING!!! Love that stuff! Dior Star is my HG for date nights but this is new HG for everyday wear! Lurv it. You should totally try this one if you haven’t!!!!!

  249. Natasha says:

The trend I wish would be over with already is contouring. I used to love watching contouring videos, but reading a blog one day not too long ago just made me realize.. the 5 shades of concealer all over the face just don’t seem necessary and I don’t think it’s anything I’ll ever need to do. I like to make my cheek bones stand out, but other than that, there’s really no need for a palette full of “contouring” colors.

Hopefully I’m successfully entering this giveaway. Since we can comment as our hearts lead us, I want to say I found International Women’s Day a week ago uplifting. I have read –so many– misogynist and trolling replies on blog posts, sometimes even those that it’s really a stretch to say they have anything directly to do with feminism. Although people who aren’t sexist, or striving not to be sexist or otherwise prejudiced as much as possible, outnumber those commenters…I feel like I still internalize a lot of those negative, trolling messages. So…gurl power! People power! TY 🙂

Heheh, since I’m still in College (majoring in Philosophy and Chemistry) I have to take mandatory classes of almost every single discipline throughout the whole range of human knowledge, however one I really enjoyed was an Astronomy class since we had to go to the Irazú volcano (yup, I’m from Costa Rica) in the middle of the night so we had to withstand temperatures of 2 Celsius (35.6 Fahrenheit) but it was worth it because the view was magical: not a single artificial light could interfere with the magnificence of the Andromeda Galaxy and bouts of the Milky Way, and several shooting stars could be seen with bare eye, and all you had to do was simply raise your head to the sky (we took astronomical equipment too); also on our way down to San José we had this beautiful view of the city at dawn all misty and foggy.

Well, being as I just got married, my bath towels are an array of colors! We received sooo many towel/cloth sets. I love them because lots of them are fluffy and soft, but when I wash some of them, so much of the fluff comes off and all in the washing machine! I read that it’s the norm with a lot of towels. We have purple, cream, gray, brown, jade and dark purple. Of course, I make my new hubby use the brown and gray sets, LOL! However, the cream sets do not get touched! It’s so preeeeetty! Honestly, who buys someone (especially someone obsessed with the beauty of things in life) cream wash cloths and hand and face towel sets in a cream color?! Using them would ruin them! I just want to revel in it’s beauty. It’s fluffy, cream-colored, UNTOUCHED beauty 🙂 Have a purrr-fect day, Karen!

This whole contouring thing needs to disappear. That kind of thing should be left to professional makeup artists – I have no clue what to do with contouring powders, pencils, etc. and don’t want to walk around with warpaint stripes! I’m sticking with my blush and that’s it . . .

  335. Penny Laughlin says:

I learned something new today. Did anyone know black cats are healthier than other cats. They have a better immune system, it’s genetic.

  336. Jen L says:

    Happy Sunday Karen,

I have climbed several trees in my younger days. Not any at all lately. I have pulled my cats down from some every once in a while. Sweet that they climb them, sad when they can only get partially up the side with their strings on.

The make up trend I want to see go away is ‘nude’. I am too pale for nude. I think it is for those lucky folks with deeper complexions. I would have to use a concealer pen to really be honest with a nude lip, then I’d look ridiculous!

    Have a great week.

  337. Sakura says:

I used to climb trees even in my teens. I would climb up our birch tree and read. Hmm, that was nice. I would like to do that again, but I don’t have a good tree to climb. Have a great Sunday evee everyone!

  338. Nicole says:

You feature two of my favorite topics, cats and nail polishes. I went back and look at your feature on Paul & Joe Kitty holiday polish collection. That’s how I discovered your blog.

  339. jessica says:

I’m in a foundation drawing class at school right now. It’s really fun and I’m not amazing but I’ve learned that it’s actually not that hard to become a decent drawer! It’s about training your eye more than your hands.

  340. Sanae says:

Spring was definitely in the air today! Took my kids to the state park with my friend and her kids and we had a wonderful relaxing time. #dontyoujustlovelazysundays

  341. Brielle says:

Hey everyone 🙂 I have in fact watched Face Off before, those transformations are mind blowing. The trend I am bored with is the Kylie Jenner lip, but since we’re headed toward spring I figure beauty fans will be moving on to brighter/sheerer lips soon anyway.

  342. Clara says:

I’m tired of this contouring trend. Only looks good when professionals do it

  343. Johnna Quick Owens says:

My bath towels are a mix of the last few styles my bathroom has gone through. Mostly deep blue, chocolate brown, ivory, white. I display what matches the current decor, but use the rest!

  344. Monique says:

I have an extreme fear of personal harm, so even as a child I don’t think I ever climbed a tree more much higher than I am tall!

  345. aarone mawdsley says:

my bath towels are every color of the rainbow!

  346. Michelle Soots says:

Thanks for letting us enter into your contest (: i´m enjoying your blog already. I must say, the contour trend (for everyday makeup) it’s a bit ridiculous, also de smokey eyes with a deep purple/wine/black lipstick it’s just too much!

The last class I took was in opera. It was about a month ago. The next class I am taking is tomorrow-also opera 😉 I’m really happy that I signed up for the classes despite my ex who tried to convince me that I wasn’t good enough. I got rid of him and now I can sing in several languages! Ha!

  360. Amoure Jones says:

    Happy Sunday!!!

    Do you watch Face Off?

Yes. It’s one of my favorite talent oriented shows. Plus it’s the only show that lasted about makeup and the artistry of it.

When was the last time you took a class for something, and what was the class about?

Last year and it was about entering into the workforce.

To the best of your knowledge, have you ever climbed a tree?

Never climbed a tree and have no desire to do so.

What’s one makeup trend you wish would just go away already?

Heavy contour and highlight. I do adore a little light contour and highlight but it’s gotten too extreme too fast.

Do you hang out with any of your coworkers outside of work?

What color are your bath towels?

Black and Gray light my bathroom.

  361. Betty says:

Pearls and pink chiffon…. Ahhh <3

I wish it was summer so I could wear my new Madden wedges outdoors. I’m wearing them indoors and breaking them in.

Also, I wish simpler more natural makeup would come back on trend. I find the over-the-top, 45-minutes-to-do-your-eye-makeup tutorials are just trying too hard.

  366. Natalia K says:

I can’t even do a push-up so I’ve never been able to climb any trees haha!

  373. Goneal says:

    Contouring is just wierd.

  374. Agustina says:

I have two types of towels at my place: huge pink ones and small blue ones. My boyfriend insisted on getting small ones and he got a lot of them in blue, however I love huge towels so I got two big blue ones for myself. The problem is that then le boyfriend loved the big ones and started using them (and didn’t wash them) 😛 so then whenever I went to grab one they were gone. So I bought several huge pink towels because it seems to keep him away from those hahaha.

I just had lower back surgery two weeks ago and as part of my rehab (so far) I am to take three five minute walks a day. Each day I look for snow drops, crocus, the beginning of daffodils coming up from the ground along with the return of robin red breasts and Bluebirds. Spring is on the way!

  378. Amber says:

I used to climb trees when I was younger, but the trees weren’t especially tall. I’d love to be able to do that still, but I’ll settle for a night in a treehouse somewhere in Costa Rica, where I could be eye-to-eye with all sorts of wildlife, like parrots and sloths.

  392. Bridget Heiple Reich says:

I love Face Off! The final looks are always amazing, but there are definitely a few that standout even as more seasons pass.

I think for me the trend that I’m not on board with is the Kylie Jenner lip look. I’m honestly just not a fan of certain body parts or areas of the face turning into trends.
