Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July! happy-4th-july

Mmm… I can already smell the barbecue (make mine fish and veggies, please).

Rise and shine, pal o’ mine! It’s Independence Day weekend. I hope you have fun plans.

We’ll probably get ready to go here pretty soon to watch the Novato parade. Last year I brought my good camera with me and got some choice pics of celebratory red, white and blue-wearing canine fashion models. I wonder how this year’s talent stacks up…

In other news, Magic Mike XXL: guess who “went there” last night.

GURL, YAAASS! My friend Marisol and I went last night, and it was…oh, my goodness. It was WEIRD. Fo’ reals, though. It’s kind of random (yes, there’s a stripper convention involved) but, you know, the dudes. If you liked the first one, it makes less sense than that, but it doesn’t really matter, if you know what I mean. πŸ™‚

OK, I better get moving. Your tabby nephew is completely unhappy with my job performance right now because he hasn’t gone outside yet for his usual morning walk. He just nipped my legs as if to say “WOMAN!” so I’d better go attend to my duties.

Thanks for stopping by, my friend, and have a great weekend.

What was the last limited edition makeup collection you went all out for?
    I haven’t done one yet!

Something you splurged on this week?
I’m on No Buy July …. So that means, of course I bought. Nothing big, just some new walking-sneakers by Ryka, some Argon Oil, a little bit from Ulta ( makeup revolution, I want to check it out…anyone try it? )

Have you ever helped anyone translate something?
Other than obscure fortune cookies, horoscope, and text messages, not really. Well, I used google translate a couple of times

Have you ever gone back to a salon to ask a stylist to change or fix your hair?
Yes! Worst color ever….she had to fix it, even she was embarrassed.

    Favorite barbecue snack or food?
    Potato or Macaroni salad

Biggest makeup mystery? (Something that you just don’t understand or can’t figure out.)
Nearly all of it. Contouring, highlight, bronzing, eye liner, eye shadow, blush, falsies. I do have lipstick and mascara down tho…so not all is lost. :- p

Happy 4th of July, Karen! I am working, of course and finishing packing…

  7. Melissa says:

  8. Amoure Jones says:

Happy 4th of July everyone and Karen,

I had to laugh because you are so right about Magic Mike XXL not making any sense – well at least it not mattering lol. If you asked me what the storyline was about for the first one I couldn’t begin to tell you all I know is they were dancing and I was loving it.

This week I’ve been splurging on my birthday party I’m having at the end of this month. It will actually be my 41st and I’m going all out for this black and white affair. I’ve never planned such a special event for myself and I want this to be big so it’s taking up a lot of time and definitely a lot of money. But I’m worth it! (isn’t that a line from a mu brand? lol)

Have a wonderful, blessed and safe holiday.

  9. Lily Kelley says:

I am Spanish (Madrid) I am always translating words from English to Spanish.

  12. Katie E. says:

Happy 4th, Karen!! You mention that you prefer grilled veggies and fish (me too!) So I HAVE to share with you my favorite summer recipe! Grilled pesto shrimp skewers from Skinnytaste. Omg, for real… the best! If I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to fire up the grill, I just cook them on the stove. Delishe either way! I serve it with some grilled asparagus, but it goes with almost anything. Enjoy!

  22. Shelley says:

Last LE collection I went all out for. . . . I lost my mind for the Tom Ford Summer 2015 collection including buying the palette on ebay for a silly amount of $$. I don’t regret it though: the products apply so beautifully and just feel so luxurious to use. On a different note, I bought my first MAC product last night — a paintpot in groundwork. Uh oh. I might be in trouble. . . . Thanks for the great blog, Karen. I look forward to your posts.

  23. Laurinha says:

Hi Karen! hv a nice 4th/weekend!!!

  24. Hilary says:

  30. Samia Tabassum says:

    Say no to splurge.. πŸ™‚

  31. April says:

The last thing I have splurged on is the TF palette from the summer collection. I think that’s the most expensive makeup item I have ever spent my money on. It’s absolutely beautiful and I do not regret buying it at all. My next splurge will probably be on skincare, I’ve been looking at some Sunday Riley stuff. I want them all…but the price tag >_<

  32. Alicia says:

Obsessed with the new MAC matte lipstick collection. I’ve already picked up D is for Danger, and it is perfect. But I’d love to get my hands on some more!

  35. Lou says:

The last makeup collection I went crazy for was the Mac Wash&Dry collection…so beautiful

  36. Andrea says:

I finally picked up the Naked 2 Palette! I know, I’m VERY late to the party. However, I never really wore eyeshadow and although I’d had my eye on it for quite some time, I thought I would never get any use out of it. Now that I have it, I can’t put it down! I love, love, love the palette.

  37. Roberta says:

  41. Jennifer says:

There’s never a time I went back to a salon to change or fix my hair but there are many times I have regretted not going back in to have them change it now that I’m older.

  42. Desiree says:

I actually helped someone translate about 2 weeks ago.
I understand Spanish better than I can speak it. A man speaking in Spanish the cashier was trying to tell her to prepay for his gas for $40.00. He said he was on pump number 4.
The cashier did not understand, and the man was getting frustrated. I translated for him and told the cashier. I was then able to tell the man that the cashier loaded the money and he would get his receipt at the pump. It definitely made me want to learn more Spanish!!

  43. Elena says:

Happy fourth Karen! My dog hates fireworks and it is super dry up here so I am tryinG to make sure nothing burns down!

What was the last limited edition makeup collection you went all out for?
Hm I can’t remember! Usually I get one or two things from a LE release.

Something you splurged on this week?
The Becca highlighter in champagne pop, two bottles of this delicious red wine (they were the last ones on the shelf) and one of the new Kat von D liquid lipsticks in the shade Exorcism. Super vampy color.

Have you ever helped anyone translate something?
I can crudely translate stuff in Japanese and Italian!

Have you ever gone back to a salon to ask a stylist to change or fix your hair?
Haha no. Lucky no mishaps with my hair. I need to find a new hair stylist though after 4 years with the same girl…

    Favorite barbecue snack or food?
Oooh corn! And I love fresh fruit. Grilled fish sounds good too!

Biggest makeup mystery? (Something that you just don’t understand or can’t figure out.)
Why I keep buying more!! LOL

  44. Lamisse says:

Hey Karen! The last LE product I went all in for was Goddess of the Sea from the MAC Alluring Aquatics collection. The second I swatched it I asked the MAC counter for 4 tubes.

  45. Teresa Long says:

Happy 4th! Yes, I have gone back to a salon to have them fix a hair cut and ended up with bangs… but goodness I love my bangs. So not all “mistakes” are bad πŸ™‚

    Thanks for this great giveaway.

  46. Nicole says:

Eyelash curling is a mystery to me. I’m glad that my lashes are naturally curly because I don’t want to clamp anything near my eye!

  47. Charlotte says:

Happy 4th of July, Karen! Re: helping someone translate…yes! It was definitely a part of my life, especially my childhood, as a child of non-English speaking immigrants. I remember when I was ten that I had to translate and help fill out forms for my mom and a large group of her friends at the unemployment agency.

  48. Jay Nichols says:

The latest limited edition products I went all out for was the UD Vice Limited Palette that ULTA released. I used some of my points for that purchase lol. I also went for the new limited edition tie dye shadows from Colourpop!

  49. Amy says:

I’m going to splurge on a new pair of sandals this week!

  50. Patty says:

I splurged waaaay too much. I bought a Kindle, since ebooks are now my thing (and I can’t ever get to the library to pick up my books on hold before they close!). And some eyeshadows from the MAC Le Disko collection, because sparkles. And the new Becca/Jaclyn Hill highlighter. And a couple of tops from J. Crew.

These 4th of July sales are killing me. D:

  57. Jessie C. says:

I splurged on my favorite hand cream this week.

  58. Erin Ortiz says:

Last week I splurged on the Becca Champagne Pop highlighter. I’m still waiting for it to come in the mail. I’m a little nervous about it because I’m very fair skin tone but I guess we’ll see πŸ™‚

I have went back into a salon….one time I asked for my natural hair color, which is ashy brown. I came out platinum blonde and naturally since I was in high school, called my mom crying. She told me to walk back in there. After the second time around I came out with black hair. What a nightmare!

Biggest makeup mystery…not getting glitter fallout all over my face throughout the day, even with primer.

    Happy July 4th!!

  63. Happy 4th of July!
My latest LE splurge was the Hot/Cold lipgloss from the Wash and Dry MAC LE. A pretty shade, but what won me over was the packaging.

I have never gone back to a salon to have them fix something. I have always figured that if they did such a bad job the first time do they have the ability to make it better? I jjust go to someone else the next time.

  65. Honi says:

Mac’s Wash & Dry collection made my little heart sing (So I went crazy!). The packaging is just DIVINE! I love the rainbow-ombre and have them on my vanity displayed nicely πŸ™‚

  66. Claudia Davis says:

July 2 was my bday so I splurged on a huge lunch at a Vietnamese place I love and then went and saw Ted2 (had some popcorn with mucho butter). I actually then went home and took a nap. It was such a relaxing and enjoyable bday for a change.

  80. Hi there! I just started following your blog. You have helped me so much! I was really scared of makeup but am slowly finding my feet in this huge world of color all thanks to you. I have purchased tons of your suggestions. Thank you so much for being so down to earth and fun to follow. You have a life time blog friend. Have a happy 4th of July 2015!

Ok it’s weird but my biggest makeup mystery is how to make my skin nice ; I’ve just bought a councealer, a foundation cream AND a finishing powder, and it’s very hard to apply !

  82. Laurie says:

Things I’ve splurged on this week! There have been a couple things (I’ve been rather badly behaved, since I did basically almost no shopping in June)…

First, these adorably odd platform gladiators from Top Shop:

(Excuse the long link! I need to get better at linking…)

And also the Trish McEnvoy Instant Eye Lift Concealer. I had been wanting this little item for a while, and finally decided to pick it up per your mention in a recent post. πŸ™‚ This was a little more of a splurge than the sandals, really; only my Armani Master Correcter can compete in concealer price with this little number! But it works SO NICELY — thanks for the rec!

Happy 4th of July hope you all enjoying good weather and time with family and friends and bbqs and all that other fun stuff. Still winter here in new zealand but it is very mild and even had a few days of reasonable temps so have been pottering in the garden and reading, baking and making marmamlade, lemon honey and soups and stews. Have a lovely week

  89. Fiona says:

The biggest makeup mystery for me is achieving an even contour. When I try to chisel my cheeks, I always end up with one cheek carved out like a Cullen and the other one all flat. Maybe one day I will unlock the secret to an even contour but, until then, I’m having fun failing.

Have a fantastic Independence Day and thanks for your giveaway! xx

  90. Cathy says:

Happy 4th of July! I haven’t splurged much on make up lately only on clothes

  91. Tracy Robertson says:

I just don’t understand foundation! Or maybe I never found the perfect one? I have tried it on and off over the years and it just highlights everything that I was trying to cover up so I have given up for now. I use moisturizer (with sunscreen of course) then I put on a little primer or sometimes just a touch of tinted moisturizer and that seems to work okay. Then eyeliner and lipstick. I know a lot of women can hide skin flaws and make their skin look amazing with the right foundation. I have never been able to pull it off.

  92. Lisa says:

I did go back and get the Ronald McDonald orange highlights fixed once. Happy 4th!

  93. Mary W says:

Happy 4th of July! I totally splurged on a Tom Ford Eyeshadow Quad this week..

  96. Ashley says:

I have gone back to a salon to get a haircut fixed, but I went to a different salon after my hair was screwed up because I didn’t want my hair to look any worse than it already did! Thankfully, a hairstylist at another salon was able to fix my horrible haircut.

  97. Ellen Farkas says:

Lst LE collection that I bought almost everything from was MAC’s Sharon Osbourne colection. Bought two eyeshadow palettes because that warm brown was so hard to dupe and I love peach on my eyelid. The petent lip pencil bloss was the perfect brown, also got two, have one in bag and one on vanity. The duo bronzer /highlighter had an amazing highlighter, but it took up less than 1/4 the palette and when you got lower down on the powder, you hit the orangey brown bronzer that I have no use for, so only one of those. Didn’t get the blushes, I’m very picky on blush. Last LE collection I liked this much was Bobbi Brown’s Desert Twidlight. She now has Telluride, which looks a little similar, I’ll have to check it out in person to decide!! Have a great holiday weekend!!

  98. Sarah W says:

I may have gone a little overboard at the Urban Decay FF sale…

  99. Marie says:

Happy 4th! Trying to convince someone to come with me to see some fireworks tonight.

  103. Rose says:

  104. Kim Pincombe Cole says:

    Happy 4th of July!
I’ve gone back to have my hair color ‘fixed’ once before – when I got outside in the sunlight after my appt, my color was super brassy. And at $225+ an appt, I felt I had the right to have my stylist take a 2nd look at it…

  105. Liz says:

I love the spring and summer because my fiance uses his grills more! We had sweet potatoes and pork chops with our family today cooked on the gas grill.

  106. Randi C. says:

  107. Catherine says:

Fave bbq food? Definitely grilled corn on the cob!

  108. Michaela says:

Happy 4th of July Karen! Something that I splurged on this week that I rarely buy is nail polish. I don’t do my own nails because I usually mess up so why buy nail polish? But it was a four pack mini from Essie from their cashmere sweater collection so I’m excited to try that .

  109. Susan P. says:

My kitty boys have been in and out on the back porch hoping lizards will appear. They catch everything that moves (tree frogs, lizards, insects) so the pickings are very slim since it’s screened in.

  116. Kellyn says:

The biggest makeup mystery for me is probably false eyelashes! I don’t understand how to put them on, nor do I have any desire to wear them πŸ˜›

  117. Pearl says:

    Biggest makeup mystery?
How to match lipstick to your eye look!! I have searched far and wide and am always referred to the color wheel. I know about complimentary, secondary, and tertiary colors. I get the concept of cool toned, neutral and warm toned. But if I’ve got a neutral eye and I’ve got 4 or 5 pink/purple lipsticks to choose from, why does this one look better than that one because they are all pink/purple!!! I have taken make up classes and I’ve gotten a little better about choosing a lipstick matching in the same color family, but I still fall way short in picking a lipstick that naturally works/pulls the whole look together.

  118. Sandy P says:

Just got back from a picnic at my sons and every time I thought he would burn me a hot dog it went to someone else. Gosh, his Mama should have been first in line. There were some definitely weird dishes there too…some that I could not even try as I had no idea what the ingredients were! Would love to win as my makeup case could use a pick me up!!

  119. Chelsea says:

I don’t know if it could qualify as “going all out for” since my cart was under $50, but I bought a bunch of things from the limited Colourpop Summer & Summer Tie Dyes collections!

  120. Icequeen81 says:

    Happy 4th of July!
We splurged on food, experiences, movies, more food and more movies this weekend. Celebrated the child’s birthday Thursday night at Piperade then had fun at the Exploratorium after dark! Friday we saw a matinee of The Third Man, had dinner at Chez Maman and then saw an adults only viewing of Inside Out at The Kabuki. Love being able to have a glass of wine while watching a movie.

  123. marta says:

    Happy 4th of July!

I went all out on MAC Novel Romance. Splurged on this week because they were giving Platinum members 5x points. That = $$ to get free stuff! Yay!

  125. Tania G says:

Happy 4th of July! Celebrating today my mom’s birthday as well! Can’t wait for fireworks tonight!

  126. Emily says:

I don’t understand the Kylie Jenner lips obsession. Maybe I’m too old, but some girls are going too far to achieve something Kylie Jenner paid to obtain.

  127. Rachel H says:

I once got blue ombrΓ© but didn’t like how the color turned out, so I went back to the salon a day later asking them to make it more like I had pictured! They were very nice and redid it just how I wanted (:

  128. Katrina says:

I’m always too scared to go back and have the stylist fix my hair so I try to do what I can myself and my mom helps me even it out (we’re both licensed cosmetologists).

  129. Aenea says:

Too scared to go back to have my hair fixed. They might make it worse than it already is.

  130. Mia says:

I am currently debating on whether or not I should buy the new (and limited edition) Jaclyn Hill x Becca Champagne Pop highlighter. I like that it seems like it’s a mix between moonstone (which I looove) and opal (which I think is too bronze for me). Hopefully when more people get their hands on it, there will be more comparison swatches online to other popular highlighters.

It’s back in stock online! I know that if it sells out online I can get it in store in a week or two so I’m not worried.

But what if it sells out online and in store too and I miss out on it?!

    Decisions decisions!

  131. Jen says:

I haven’t gone back after a bad haircut. The last time it happened – well, it was actually two cuts in a row – I just switched stylists. I felt really guilty, even though I tried to communicate very clearly what I wanted to her and she kept doing something different.

  132. Cathy B says:

Yes I splurged on something this week! Today actually lol.. on the Becca Opal highlighter. I wanted moonstone but Ulta didn’t have it in stock. Now I am on adding it to my cart along with champagne pop and the KVD contour kit lol >< Help me! Happy 4th of July!

  137. Berry says:

Biggest splurge this week was on shoes. Unfortunately they weren’t fun shoes, but practical ones. I stand on my feet at my job all day so I need good, supportive shoes. They’re okay but pretty dull and boring, and they cost a fortune.

  138. Shars says:

The last limited edition collection I went all-out for were the MAC Rihanna launches. What drama! *sigh* lol

  143. Courtney says:

The last limited edition item I went all out for was mac’s obviously bare lipgloss! My backups are finally running out, oh how I’ll miss that stuff! I think it might be my favorite gloss of all time

  144. Jessica says:

What was the last limited edition makeup collection you went all out for? Le Disko. I just love glitter!
Something you splurged on this week? Everything! It was my birthday, so I went on a shopping spree! Went to 2 Sephoras! haha! (The one on Powell didn’t have everything so I went to the one in Westfield to complete my list. Uhhh I had to also go online to get the rest. I have issues.)
Have you ever gone back to a salon to ask a stylist to change or fix your hair? I haven’t had anything so drastically bad to fix, thank goodness.
Biggest makeup mystery? How to get false lashes on with EASE. And even. And not coming off at the ends.

  148. Gen says:

I thought I was the only one that opted for grilled veggies. Love grilled zucchini and bbq chicken.

Also, no idea how people can use the at home gel manicure kits… tried the red carpet manicure and could not get that top coat to set under the light to save my life. Definitely keeping it as a splurge for myself to leave it to the professionals.

  149. Pauline says:

Trying to decide if Becca Champagne Pop is worth buying as I already have Opal.

  150. Maren says:

I once helped translate an interview that’d been done in Italian from the interviewer’s goofy English translation into English that sounded more natural (make sense?). Also, I was in a short film once where the writer had written the script in Spanish & used Google Translate to translate it into English– eeek! So I had to alter most of the dialog to make it not sound like aliens. In other words, I translate ESL (or worse) into EFL. πŸ™‚

  153. My hair turned totally gray (instead of blond) when I got some lowlights added in. It looked awful. I had to go back to the salon and ask them to fix it.

Have you ever helped anyone translate something?
I help my dad translate stuff all the time. His English isn’t the best…

Have you ever gone back to a salon to ask a stylist to change or fix your hair?
No. This one time I was really unhappy with my haircut but the problem was that she had cut it too short so I didn’t want any more of it off!

    Favorite barbecue snack or food?

Biggest makeup mystery? (Something that you just don’t understand or can’t figure out.)
How to get my foundation to stop caking up in the middle of the day and to stay matte for at least six hours. Urgh!

  165. Stephanie says:

Oh, I splurge all the time! It’s a bad habit, but I always justify it somehow.

Actually, I went back to my hairdresser on Friday. BUT it was her idea and I agreed. I’ve been blonde my whole life, I’m going dark instead of gray so the upkeep is tough. My hair wants to pull red and the blonde gets brassy without purple shampoo and as the roots come in it looks greasy. So I suggested red, but I had more of a strawberry blonde in mind. She added red highlights to let me see if I liked it. I did and I thought it was a little streaky with the platinumish blonde. So I went back to go all red, I’m a LOT darker than I thought I’d be. However, I washed my hair today and it was like a blood bath, so I think it’s going to fade to what I want pretty quickly. My blonde is already starting to peek through. My husband isn’t so sure about it, he prefers me blonde so I’ll probably go back to that after this fades/grows out. It’s a fun change though.

I wanted to splurge on the Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar but Sephora was all sold out this weekend! πŸ™

  168. Chelsea says:

I speak French, and I’ve definitely helped with transactions! During my study abroad, one of my housemates, from Hong Kong, spoke very little French, but spoke English perfectly fine, so I translated dinner conversations for her.

It also helped when I worked at cosmetics counters, since so many of the brands had French named products!

  169. Kristi says:

First of all, thank you very much for this opportunity and Happy 4th of July! I recently splurged on MAC Cosmetics this week! Specifically their lippies. It’s just kind of a bummer for me because MAC is a little more expensive here in the Philippines. πŸ™ Winning this gift card would be a huge thing for me.

P.S. I love chicken barbecue! I don’t know if that’s exactly how you call it in the U.S. but it’s basically char-grilled chicken marinated in a mixture of soy sauce and other spices. It would be perfect for your 4th of July celebration there! πŸ™‚

  174. Xnyorkr says:

  189. Sarina says:

I have gone back to the hairdressers to have my colour re-done. Last year I went to a salon that I had been to on numerous occassions before and always been happyy. This particular time I ended up with a different person for reasons unknown to this day. At this time I was a regular red head. I asked for my usual with a few lighter highlights. Sounds simple…apparently not. I ended up with, and I kid you not, bright ginger verging on traffic light orange hair. When asked if I was happy I immediately said no and that they needed to re-do it. So the solution apparently was bleach and then another colour. After about an hour and a half I was a deeper shade of … yes you guessed it orange. The manager was out that day so I did a drama queen dazzling and stomped of demainding an appointment the next day with them to fix it. I returned the next day to a very shipish hairdresser who was given a lesson in fixing bodge jobs and listening to the client. It was an uncomfortable experience but in the end I left content with a new do even if it was a day late. At least it gave the hubby a laugh who called me tango head for an evening, he was allowed that one just for one night :p

So after driving to a few towns in the rain and not finding anything to do, we ended up on a back road in the middle of nowhere PA. I found this very creepy looking old house that was so unnerving I begged the hubby to drive up so I could see it. It was so overgrown the mailbox had weeds. As we’re driving up this narrow road he chickened out and was sure leatherface was going to come after us with a chainsaw. He decided to try to turn around but we ended up in a ditch. I had to get into the driver’s seat while he pushed the car out, the whole time thinking we might be murdered or arrested. We tore up the driveway and speeded the hell out of there. And that is how I spent the 4th of July.

  237. Karen says:

Hi Karen, my splurge was because of you….. Lol I saw your blog piece about the new Mac Le Disko collection. Your eyes looked amazing! With asian eyes, I so struggle finding a way to do my eye makeup. I made an appointment with my local Mac store and took your picture in. The Mac artist did a good job but not the same as yours. I would LOVE if you could do a U-tube on that look! Also if you could tell me what colors you used for that look. i really appreciate the time you take to do your blog!

P.S. My biggest mystery is how to do my asian eyes.

Hai! If I had an extra $50 to drop at MAC I would get the new whirl and stone lipsticks. I know what you’re all thinking .. BAAASIC!. But my lips are super picky about what products it entertains. I found that MAC lipsticks are the only ones that don’t give me that white line in the center of my lips no matter how long I wear them. Plus putting Jack Black’s lip balm under any of the mac lipsticks is always a win!

I have never gone back to a stylist to fix something because either (1) it’s a small thing, like bangs a little too long, and I just fix miself/deal with it and tell them next time or (2) it’s a big thing and I NEVER GO BACK!!! Seriously, I’ve broken up with 2 hairstylists this way and I would avoid their respective sides of town for at least a year because I’m too much of a wimp to deal :/

  247. Miki says:

β€’The last LE collection I went ALL out for, was the Sephora Marsala Collection, I bought almost all of it. I am in LOVE with Marsala! Before that, it was the MAC Simpsons collection haha πŸ˜€
β€’I just spent almost $100 on Colour Pop! :0
β€’I live in Canada, translating is par for the course lol
β€’I love me some potatoes on the bar-b!
β€’Finding a foundation or concealer that doesn’t cake on me. It’s a super duper mystery πŸ™

  256. Carissa says:

I splurged on the summer Chanel line, but now I’m on a buying freeze until the Nordstrom Anniversary sale starts!

  257. Joann says:

Went from black to blonde hair recently! My last root touch up turned my head a tad too yellow, first time I’ve ever had to go back to the stylist but she toned it and it’s never looked better πŸ™‚

  258. Kalli says:

I saw Magic Mike this weekend too! I went with a group of girlfriends to a theater that serves adult beverages (’cause ya know this movie needed it haha!) and it was so fun. There were some ladies in the theater that had a running commentary and everyone was clapping and squealing. It was a great girls night!

Just wanted to say thank you for your blog! I really enjoy reading it and looking at the makeup looks you create!

  260. Johnna Quick Owens says:

I have never returned to a salon to ask for a fix, but I sincerely wish I had! Once upon a time, I colored my hair much too dark, it ended up raven black rather than the purply-deep auburn I was searching for. I had a friend who was a stylist, very successful, so I assumed he would be able to fix it. After 6 hours of working on my hair, chemical burns on my scalp, and far too much money spent, I left the salon with something like gingery-peachy-orange bleached out hair that was so brittle I was scared to brush it out. I was told not to color it again for a few weeks, let it calm down, and then try to add color. Needless to say, I didn’t go back to him. I found someone who talked to me before she applied ANY products to my hair. LOL

  261. Ambritt says:

Hi Happy 4th! The one makeup product that is a mystery to me because it just doesn’t work on my dry skin is cream blush! Which is a shame because I see so many beautiful ones that I’d love to try. But alas they just don’t work for meh.

  262. JCarbonel says:

I recently splurged on the new jaclyn hillxbecca highlighter! i haven’t purchased a highlighter in quite sometime because i’m back in school and in my line of work, i can’t have a wha-BAM highlight anymore lol

  263. Ashley says:

The last collection I went all out for was the MAC Novel Romance collection. Yield to love is one of my all time favorite lipsticks and I don’t know what I”m gonna do when it runs out!

  267. Lorena Melendez says:

Colourpop has been my obsession. I plwced two orders this weekend. Lol

  268. eyshon salahuddin says:

Its so hard to find the right make up that is of quality. I dont wear make up daily and only on special occasions. But it must be the right one.

  269. Kirsten says:

What was the last limited edition makeup collection you went all out for?
I guess some recent Colourpop? I spent about a half hour on their site trying to get some of the Ultra Mattes, even though they aren’t LE. Or maybe their ones from this weekend, although “all out” is pretty much a misnomer. I just popped them in my cart.

Something you splurged on this week?
    See above Colourpop.

Have you ever helped anyone translate something?
Kinda. In my old job I worked with translators and I would often help them smooth out their English phrasing.

Have you ever gone back to a salon to ask a stylist to change or fix your hair?
Never. I did cut my bangs off when I was a tot and decided I didn’t like them.

    Favorite barbecue snack or food?
I hate barbecue sauce, so nothing barbecue flavored. Buffalo chicken dip is pretty awesome though.

Biggest makeup mystery? (Something that you just don’t understand or can’t figure out.)
Brushes, by far. I hate them and I can never get any color on them. Give me sponge-tips!

  270. Valerie C. says:

I hope your 4th was great! I went back to a salon a few years ago because my color was all wrong. Orange streaks in the back! She fixed it with no charge, thank goodness.

  274. Lulle says:

I’ve never gone back to the salon to get my hair fixed, despite having some major mishaps, like that time when I wanted a short bob and ended up with a pixie cut… It’s just not my thing, like returning stuff in store, it makes me very uncomfortable.

  295. Highlighter help! I keep getting these gorgeous looking (powder mostly but not all) hilight products that folks rave about on YT such as Laura Gellar Gilded Honey, Becca Opal And Moonstone) & many others but they don’t show up on my relatively fair NC20 skin! The only product that seems to show at all is MAC Emphasise which I love but would sometimes like a bit more sheen. What am I doing wrong? I can’t believe my skin tone is too light to be “lit” (lol)! I’d certainly appreciate ANY thoughts / advice as your cheekbones are always stunning! I understand if you don’t have time to answer in depth, but any idea at all would be very appreciated. Thank you so very much!
