Good morning, glory! I hope you slept well. I woke up a little earlier than usual today, and it feels a bit like Christmas morning, because I’m going to Sephora to take one of their free makeup classes. For fun. This one’s called Daytime Smoky Eyes (I noticed that they also have a Correct and Conceal class, which I might take later if I like this one), and when I talked to the girl yesterday to reserve my seat, she said, “You can bring coffee if you want to,” to which I said, “Hallelujah!” πŸ™‚

Although mine will be decaf, but still…I’ll pretend it’s real coffee.

So I’m off! Have a great day today, and good luck in the giveaway. I’ll talk to you soon.

Prize

Hi there! I recently decided to start a beauty blog and your blog was one of the biggest reasons why! I love the way you review items…it doesn’t seem staged, it just seems like you’re talking to friends. And I am trying to get over my fear of posting photos of myself, so seeing you post real photos, not ones where you’re doing the same serious face in them all, is such a great example for me!

Keep doing what you’re doing, and thanks for being a great influence for inspired bloggers like me!

  16. Honi says:

I have two rescue cats and a dog and out of the three the tiger-striped cat is definitely the most vocal. She cries when I wont give her canned food, she yells at the door to the upstairs when she isnt in the mood to be downstairs again and she does this little sad meow when she wants me to pet her. She is the weirdest, she shoves her head into my armpit when she is getting cuddles lol.

  17. Meghan says:

I think the first MAC product I really ever used was a few eyeshadows & blush, like Shale, Samoa Sand, and Frankly Scarlet! The first MAC lipsticks I ever had were an LE Year of the Snake Plumful and Sandy B (just like my mom’s name!)

  18. Wendy says:

    Hello Karen, and happy Caturday!
Yes, indeed my cat is so vocal, may it be in the morning, or during the night, nothing stops her… what made me call her Adele. Yes, she has the same voice, nature create miracles sometimes!
Talking about cats, my favorite poem is Le Chat by Baudelaire ( a beautiful comparison of a cat with an intriguing lady ), I think you might find good translations online.
Last, I am definitely a visual learner, and I bet no one have ever seen anything similar to my writing drafts, which consist in words, crosses, arrows, unidentified signs etc.

  19. Jen says:

I have 3 Great Danes (over 350 lbs of dog) that keep me on my toes everyday! Each one has their own unique personality and I love them as if they were my children…..their quarky thing is that they cannot each their food without Parmesan cheese sprinkled on it!

  25. Ruta says:

As someone who is preparing for exams right now, I’m very aware of being a visual learner which kind of sucks because the courses are too broad to summarise/graph πŸ˜€ (which is legitimately the best way to learn economics, seriously!)

Also, the first mac product I got was lipstick (I’m still not sure how that even happened), ‘Spice it up’, I think it was, and it spiraled from there πŸ˜€

Enjoy the class and the coffee, Karen. πŸ™‚

  26. Nicole Anderson says:

My favorite poem is called “A Reason,A Season, A lifetime” such a meaningful poem in fact I have it tattooed on my chest (:

  29. Heather says:

I have a very vocal cat. He’s got a strong, round, yowl-y voice. I joke about enrolling him in opera classes at the Sorbonne; my husband’s pretty sure the neighbors think we torture him.

On the plus side, he’s really good about telling us exactly what he wants! … All the time. Has your cat ever woken you up before dawn because he decided there wasn’t enough ice in his water bowl, or because his food bowl had the audacity to be less than half full? That’s pretty much my life right now.

  30. Kathy says:

When I first started going to M.A.C. cosmetics, which was about a year ago, I started off buying two products.

    1. Blush all day pro long wear blush.
    2. Angel lipstick

My friends kept telling me to start going to mac because they had amazing products. So I took it to the test and tried it. I instantly fell involve with the blush. Till this day I own 3 of them. And the lipstick was amazing in my opinion. Believe it or not, I am wearing the lipstick and the blush right this instant.

If I win the $50 M.A.C. gift card, I would spend it on the new eye shadow X 15: Warm neutral palette. One of my friends has the same palette but the darker shade and I have tried it and it is truly an amazing purchase for the price of $48.

I am sorry I wrote so much for this contest.

  31. Tracey E. says:

Yah for weekends…and a sunny Saturday! For this contest, I’d like to pay homage for my longest love, MAC’s Taupe lipstick. When I found a companion lipgloss that would complement the colour, I was over the moon. So cheers to a lipstick that transcends what’s ‘in’ today and gone tomorrow. xoxo

  32. Elena says:

My dog is very vocal. He loves to talk. And if he isn’t making noise he is “speaking” with his eyes. He has that puppy face and will kinda raise his eyebrows and tilt his head-usually to beg for a treat. He will also sit by his treat drawer and raise his paw (he thinks if he shakes it means an automatic treat).

  33. frostylids says:

Karen you have to update us on how the Sephora class went! I’ve wanted to go but am skeptical because I’m a MAC lemming. There’s something about MAC’s technique and the way they put color together that I don’t find anywhere else. What did you think of the class?

    Is your pet very vocal?
I had a Fred (orange tabby) that talked my ear off and was after me constantly for lap time and massages. I absolutely adored that cat. Wilma (white calico with rust and black spots) only deigns to acknowledge or speak to me when she wants something but she does show me her hiney quite a bit. She thinks it’s a gift, apparently. Sammie (snowshoe) is adorably quirky and we call him “an odd little dude”; he’ll break into conversation at 3 in the morning or walk around the house talking to the furniture and headbutting everything (the couch, my legs, the dog, the cabinets, corners) and he doesn’t really meow, it’s more of a guttural “MMMMMMRRRRREHHHHHH”. Sometimes it’s a question, sometimes it’s a statement. He’s got a great purr.

What’s the first mac product you ever used?
I can’t remember but I remember I was using Ultima II at the time, and went in for a makeover from MAC on a whim and was so in love with what they did to my face that I bought everything from the makeover. I know I WAY OVERUSED the studio fix pressed powder compact and went through those like they were going out of style.

Are you more of a visual learner or an auditory learner?
Great question. Visual – I don’t know if I started that way but I think since information is given in a more visual manner these days, I’ve acclimated. I don’t know if you can switch modalities like that but I feel like at one point I preferred auditory. I think we are all primary kinesthetic learners and have a secondary, complimentary preference.

Short and sweet or verbose and detailed?
Trick question!! I was going to say short and sweet but it depends on the context and or conversation. If it’s an interesting topic for all involved and we’re all listening and then discussing, I don’t mind someone being verbose and detailed because I like that kind of in depth conversation. But if it’s just a drama update or superficial crap, keep it short and sweet. The trick to a conversation, I think, is you have to be interesting and interested.

Okay, side note: Passing through a common work area the other day, I heard someone repeating over and over again, “Oh my God, that’s so funny. Seriously, that’s hilarious. Totally funny. You are so funny.” But they didn’t laugh. It’s like they had facebook or instagram brain and were just commenting but they weren’t engaged, you know? Maybe whatever was said wasn’t that funny but I don’t think so because most of the others were laughing, and not the polite, canned laughter either – it was sincere belly laughing. Maybe that person was just a mirthless s.o.b. and immune to humor. Maybe they are just too cool to genuinely belly laugh over something. But probably the other person didn’t think it was funny because they just wanted everyone to shut up so they could say what they had been waiting to say the whole time. It seems like there is always one narcissist in every conversation. From an observation standpoint, it was just odd.

  36. Sarah W says:

We have three pets! I guess they are all vocal in their own ways. Our cat uses meows to issue her list of demands (it’s long) our bullmastiff is a whiner cause he’s a big baby. I think our german shepherd mix is the most vocal; she barks, huffs, and even talks back sometimes! She’s very chatty

My cats are not super vocal most of the time but at night one of them whines non stop to go in my son’s room, and then once there he whines non stop to be let out. This lasts hours. And my other cat will talk when we go in the kitchen because he wants treats every single time he sees anyone near the the treat cupboard.

  41. Poppy says:

My pets are very vocal. They are pretty much human beings. ❀️

  42. Sandy says:

My first MAC product was a lipstick called Toffee. That was when MAC first came about as a Canadian company and I came across their counter on a trip to Montreal in 1984. I believe I still have that tube somewhere but their lipstick formula has greatly improved since then.

The first MAC product I purchased was B-Cup Lipstick when I was thirteen (more than a decade ago…). Not only was it an overly-frosty light pink, but it didn’t flatter my skin tone whatsoever lol. I still loved it!

You have inspired me to think about taking one of those classes — as long as I can bring coffee! Do let us know how it is!

MAC was the first brand of cosmetics I used — the first lipstick they put on me was hug me and I still have one in that color. But now I do not wear such nude-y tones, I am all for orange and red. I need to get me Lady Danger. I am also eyeing the new viva glam coming out — right in my orange red wheel house :).

With coffee, I can soapbox for hours about anything, without, I am short and sweet.

    xx have a super day!

  48. Bertha says:

The first MAC product I ever bought & used was Ricepaper eye shadow! Still love it!

  49. Laura says:

I have a Himalayan cat named Indy, and he can be very vocal at times, which in our case is a good thing. We call him our little alarm kitty. He knows our schedule, and if we don’t get up on time, he meows very loud to get us up πŸ™‚ He will also pick up his “da bird” toy in his mouth, and meow at the same time telling us he wants to play. I love our little Indy buddy.

  50. Nakale says:

Happy Caturday! My favorite MAC lipsticks are MAC Media and MAC Film Noir.

The first MAC product I ever used was the Clear Lipglass. This was before they had colored lipglass and it was when Rupaul was modeling for them. I still use it to this day. I can’t go anywhere without it.

  60. wina says:

my dog I thought was quite vocal but compared to other dog he’s quite docile.

  61. Lynn says:

What fun questions. My first Mac product was a lipstick a friend passed on over a year ago. My next purchase was painterly paint pot – which I’ve never used. I bought it bc. I was new to makeup and heard it was great. But learning more about makeup, I really don’t need it. My skin is dry – and even toned -so I can use Elf, Fergie wet and wild, or too faced primer and they work great. And I hadn’t realized that in addition to solid priming, paint pots were to cover up uneven skin tones. My skin tone is even. I really don’t need it – although I’ll try it someday.

Only last month did I buy Mac products I’m loving. At a Cosmetic outlet center, I bought a couple of blushes and lipsticks. I just love the shades. I’ve been on a quest to find lip colors I can pull off – and tried so many that were too stark, dark, or bold on me. The Mac shades were special. Love them.

    Lynn.

  62. Melissa Hays says:

My cat is very vocal during the night! My first MAC products were Blot powder and eyeshadow (Satin Taupe). Thanks!

  63. Jade Goncalves says:

My first MAC product was a lipstick called Taupe. Since then this is my favorite lipstick .

  64. Al says:

My first MAC product was Speak Louder Creamsheen Lipstick πŸ™‚

  65. JackieC says:

The first makeup product I ever used from MAC was their lipstick in Touch. I was still in high school and wanted to try out a high end nude lipstick after I got my first real job. Here it is 10 years later, and I still keep a tube of it in my collection. Love the color and the formula!

  66. Marilyn says:

I have 3 cats and they are vocal at different times. My girl cat always chirps when she hops into bed.

  67. Shannon says:

The first MAC product I ever used was the Clear Lipglass. This was before they had a website or the colored lipglass. It was also when Rupaul was modeling for them. I still use it to this day. I can’t go anywhere without it.

  68. Stephanie says:

Have you heard of Thinx? They are period panties. It sounds silly but I totally want to try them. If I’m going to miss my pad and hit my underwear, I might as well make it underwear that’s made for that purpose.

  69. Michaela says:

Hi Karen! Hope you enjoyed your Sephora session today! I enjoyed a MAC make up session yesterday while sampling the Haute Dogs collection. I don’t really remember the first MAC item I ever purchased because I purchased several items together -but I believed I got a lipstick, a paint pot eyeshadow, and several brushes. It was a hefty purchase, but it was worth it because until this day I am using the brushes. They are a good investment!

  70. Denay says:

My sweet kitty only meows once a day at night when she jumps into bed to be petted, Other than that she is a silent ninja.

  73. Marisa says:

My first MAC product was “Melon” pigment. Quite the collection has since accumulated πŸ™‚

  74. Laura says:

BOTH my cats are very vocal!

  75. Lucia says:

I had a VERY VOCAL pet, a chinchilla, La Femme Nikita, yeah, I know, very appropriate because she was the most opinionated being -not human – I had the pleasure to meet. Every time I will take her out of her cage at night to run around, she will proceed to “accomodate” her behind to pee on the carpet, I will say “don’t do it!” She will look at me with crazy eyes, BARK at me, turn, stand on her rear feet, and PEE IN MY GENERAL DIRECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will probably won’t believe this, but this is a real story. Even if I didn’t say a thing but look with accusing eyes she will do it! Why she waited until she was out of the cage is still a mystery to me. She was a migogynist too, as she only peed on women, never on men. She died, and I miss her. I had another chinchilla, Penelope, and she was sweet. La Femme Nikita was a bi%^&*, yeah, her personality was over the top.

  76. Ingryd Lorrene Silva says:

My cat is very vocal, she is always meow at me .

  77. Heather L says:

I am a college student, and definitely more of a visual learner. I could never survive finals based on lecture recordings and notes alone. I seek out documentary videos and Khan Academy videos on the relevant topics so the material will sink in better and make studying less tedious. I still use the recordings and notes – but I don’t remember the material well if I use them alone. I also like professors that use a lot of visual presentations (e.g. PowerPoints with a lot of pictures instead of just text)

  78. Christiana Mercier says:

Just got a puppy a month ago and he is adorable! He doesn’t bark too much although sometimes when he’s playing he will growl at his toys. He also tends to bark at his shadow when we take him out at night.

  88. Amy Westy says:

Happy weekend, Karen! I wish that I could always be a sweet and short spoken person–that’s actually a trait I really admire, because being able to condense your thoughts can make it easier (and faster) to be understood by your audience. Especially these days, when everything is all about instant gratification; taking too long to “get to the point” almost guarantees that some folks are gonna check out early…
But alas, as much as I’d like not to be, I’m sure this long-winded reply tells you exactly what type of person I am πŸ˜‰

  89. Peggy says:

Just adopted a 6 yr old Maine coon cat. She’s big, adorable, loving cat. I’m happy that I saved her

  90. Ashley says:

I have a British lab dog named Nikki and she’s very social! She loves everyone!

  91. Elaine Stewart says:

Would like feedback on the class, generally I am not thrilled with make overs or classes in stores, as they are not much different than what I normally do

  92. Bonnie Clyne says:

    Verbose and detailed.

I keep a saddle in my car.

  93. meka says:

I think the first MAC product I used was clear lipglass.

  94. Jay Quinn says:

The first ever mac product I used was the creamsheen lipstick in Asian Flower. I still have that one in my collection too!

  95. BJW says:

I’m very much a visual learner.

Also, we have a dog, and he’s only vocal at certain moments, such as when visitors come, or when I’ve been gone for a significant length of time. At those moments, he whines. I like quiet pets.

  96. Rachel says:

My cat, Bailey, used to be very quiet, but she has become quite vocal in the last few years. She’s 11 now (and currently curled up asleep next to me) and she’s decided she needs to get her way ALL the time! My husband gives her part of a can of cat food when we come in from work, so she goes crazy if he comes in and doesn’t immediately feed her. When she’s irritated with something you’re doing (or not doing), she grunts. It’s the most hilarious and unexpected sound. She puts her whole body into it to – you see the grunt go through her! I think she might have learned that from me, as I often grunt when I’m irritated (or sleepy). She’s horrid when she knows we are up, but haven’t come out of the bedroom (we have a baby gate up (though no babies!) because she was having accidents in the bedroom, so she isn’t allowed in anymore). Relentless yowling until you either come out or throw something close enough to scare her off. And she is adamant that she should get combed or brushed anytime you are combing or brushing your hair. So, every morning and every evening I have to either brush her or fight her off because she will not quit until she gets her way!!

And that’s just the cat – don’t get me started on how vocal the guinea pigs are!!

  97. Kim Pincombe Cole says:

I really want to take the Sephora ‘Correct and Conceal’ class too. More like I really NEED to…
My 10yr old mini goldendoodle has become really vocal in the past year. We blame it on crankiness in her older age. And she’ll ignore her commands/training to stop barking. Reminds me of Grouchy Old Men!

My cat, Cheezit, has been super vocal ever since he was a kitten. When I changed apartments from the midwest to suburban D.C., and he was still getting used to less space, I’d get home in the evening to hear his caterwauling before I even got out of the elevator.

    Jabberwocky

Mac eye kohl in smolder. Still my go-to eyeliner, but it’s learned to share with Urban Decay’s bourbon.

Definitely a visual learner. I need to read stuff to really get it.

A copy of Jane and Michael Stern’s Road Food (in case I happen to find myself near a great diner and don’t even know it), packets of Justin’s nut butter, and my horseback riding helmet.

Verbose and detailed. Give me all the words!

  109. Beth says:

My first MAC product was their lipglass and I use Coppering all the time. Hope the class went great! Please report back!

  110. Krystle says:

I am definitely a visual learner

  111. Princessks says:

What’s the first mac product you ever used?

    My Lipstick in Salon Rouge

    Is your pet very vocal?

Not really but she is very vocal to other animals. But she gets more agitated than vocal with humans.

  112. Jess says:

    Hi Karen!
My first MAC purchase was lipstick in “Angel” and the mineralize skinfinish in “Soft & Gentle.” These a few of my everyday go-to products, I love them!

  113. Amber says:

Hi Karen! I’m a do-it-myself learner usually, I like to figure it out on my own by trial and error, but if thats not possible, listening helps. Like when I learned to surf, it was trial and error and watching others. When I learned to play guitar, it was trial and error and guidebooks. And when I learned to speak french it was all by listening to lessons on CD. So I’m a multi-layered learner! haha πŸ™‚

  114. Ambritt says:

My cat Lilly is a Siamese and she is the most talkative cat I have ever had! She meows constantly half the time I’m like how are you still meowing aren’t you tired? She has just always been that way funny thing is that My grandmas cat is the opposite he almost never meows and when he does its so quiet you barely hear him.

  115. Sara says:

    Visual learner!

  116. Tavia says:

My first Mac product was Taupe lipstick. I still love it today.

  117. Chasity says:

My shaggy boy (my cat) literally chases me around my house when I get home from work for lovin. He wants to be petted right then. No taken off jewelry shoes. Nope I have to pet shaggs. If I do not he tries to grab me he chases me jumps on the closet thing to me so he can grab at me to get my attention. I would not say verbal but you know hev is there. Especially when he grabs your arm with those claws I should of had removed. Just couldn’t do it to him.

  118. Kecia S. says:

    Happy Saturday, Karen!

My favorite poem is “The Tiger” by William Blake, closely followed by “She Walks in Beauty” by Lord Byron.

I first walked into a MAC store looking for peach eye shadow & I walked out with Saddle & Rule. Combined, they’re the perfect peachy shade for my skintone.

  119. Jill says:

I almost died when I read your first question – asking if my cat is vocal is like asking if one needs oxygen to survive! My cat is SO vocal sometimes we have to give her “time outs” in the bathroom so we can concentrate at the task at hand, though we can still hear her meowing through the door. She’s a black cat, but her chattiness makes me think she may be part siamese. Her non stop meowing sprees can be really annoying but we love her for who she is. Meows and all!

  120. Johnna Quick Owens says:

I have two babies, one cat, one dog. The cat Lily is only vocal when she needs to alert us to an emergency, like empty water dish or low-level crunchies, or maybe we haven’t noticed that it is time for wet food. The dog is a rescue chihuahua that apparently spent 3 years in a puppy mill, so she doesn’t bark at all. In 6 years with us, she has barked about a dozen times, but she always finds ways to make her wishes known. She is spoiled rotten, they both are, but that is what happens when you love your babies. πŸ™‚

  121. Sherry P says:

I am a very visual as well as hands on learner. Made for a very interesting nursing school experience LOL. My saltwater fish are absolutely lovely in that relaxing way that lowers my stress level on the daily! Not very talkative though and the hubby says I talk to them like babies. What does he know anyway πŸ™‚

  122. Sarah Duehr says:

My favorite poem is this one by Emily Dickenson:

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
    I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
    Or cool one pain,
    Or help one fainting robin
    Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

  126. Noirojos says:

My first Mac product was Russian Red! Can’t beat a classic

  127. Chelsea Amanda says:

My cat Kitty that we’ve had for two years. A rescue is fairly vocal. Only when she want out or in or you sneak up on her and pet her she’ll let out a meow. My other cat Delilah is fairly quiet. Weirdly enough we just got home from looking at puppies. We will be getting two πŸ™‚ unless we change our minds in the next two weeks.

  133. Dawn says:

The original Viva Glam lipstick was my first MAC purchase! I bought it at the MAC store on Bleecker Street in NYC. It was a total 90s moment!

  134. Tatiana says:

I an definitely a visual learner. If I attend a verbal lecture I get lost trying to imagine the information in a graphic way.
Maybe not so surprising but definitely unusual, in my car I have… a polar fleece blanket, 2 to 5 hats, at least 4 jackets ranging from the lightest rain shell all the way to down filled, a riding helmet, riding boots, rubber rain boots, crops and dressage whips, a grooming kit with hoof picks, curry combs, brushes, sweat scraper and fly spray and another kit with soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper and paper towel because you never know how well stocked a barn latrine will be.

  140. Jennifer says:

We adopted an older cat 2 months ago. He’s not very vocal compared to the Siamese cats we used to have. When he’s unhappy with the lack of food in his dish he starts batting at his water and splashing it all over.

  141. Maddie says:

My cats are usually pretty quiet, but they get vocal when they get the crazies and start zooming around the house for no obvious reason. Gotta love ’em!

  142. Makyla says:

Way excessively verbose and detailed! Have fun this weekend, Karen!

  143. Tina says:

Hi Karen! Happy Caturday! My first Mac purchase was lipstick of course! I bought Twig, which I have purchased many times, and Verve.

  144. Heather G says:

My first MAC product was Up The Amp lipstick.

  145. Tricia says:

Visual learner. I must study with music or to the TV on though.

Our cat is getting on 10 years old now so she has gotten quiet. Except when she is grump πŸ˜‰

  146. Erica says:

My first Mav product was Oh Baby lip gloss and chestnut lip liner!

  147. Aviva says:

My first Mac products was a present the lipstick Ruby woo

  153. Elizabeth natividad says:

  154. Shelley says:

My first MAC product was a paint pot in Groundwork. I love it!

  155. Amoure Jones says:

Happy Saturday Karen, I do hope you had a great time in the makeup class. I’ve thought about taking a few of them myself just to help out with my skill.

    Is your pet very vocal?

    I don’t have a pet.

    What’s your favorite poem?

You do the math – by me

What’s the first mac product you ever used?

I believe it was a concealer.

Are you more of a visual learner or an auditory learner?

    Visual.

Something surprising you keep in your car?

    Nothing really.

Short and sweet or verbose and detailed?

It all depends on what it is. Some things I keep short and sweet and some things I need all the details. ALL THE DETAILS!!

  156. Jeanine says:

    Definitely a visual learner

  157. Alex Rhodes says:

Is your pet very vocal? -I think my cat Kelsey is just weird but she make a sort of squeaking sound when she meows, ee-ee. Lol it cracks my family up and we call she squeakers sometimes. She can meow normally when she’s scared or mad. Sometimes she even growls when she really really wants outside or doesn’t want you to take her off your lap. She would never hurt a fly and when she growls I know she would never bite, she’s just letting us know she really really reallllyy wants something at that moment.
What’s the first mac product you ever used? – Prolongwear concealer!
Are you more of a visual learner or an auditory learner?- Visual for sure
Something surprising you keep in your car? – Dance shoes, about 6 pairs LOL. Dancers know the struggle.
Short and sweet or verbose and detailed? Short and sweet!

  158. Julie L says:

My 17 year old striped long hair girl Toddie who resembles the Naked palette is a big talker with a big vocabulary. She is especially loud meowing at night as she hunts her little foam balls . 159. Lori P says:

My chihuahua, Coco is verbal in her own way. She doesn’t bark very much but snorts when she wants to tell us something.

  160. Tracy Robertson says:

I have to put a little coat of Vaseline on my lips at all times because I can’t stand how they feel dry without them. I use lipstick on top of my layer of Vaseline, but I hate how it somewhat mutes the lipstick. I guess I need to find a color that is crazy-bold so it will still pop over the Vaseline.

  161. Deanna says:

    Visual learner.

  162. Adonna says:

My first Mac product was the Blot powder.

  163. Crystal says:

To continue from last weekend’s post, oh yes my cat is very vocal. To the point where my SIL is weirded out by her. And I kid you not, my cat likes to FaceTime. I’ll be FT’ing with my mom and she will come sauntering in the shot, tail high and meowing sweetly as if to say “Oh hi there!” I’ve never had a cat like her and couldn’t imagine life without her.

  164. linda says:

I can’t wait to hear what you thought about the class!

  165. Cory says:

Definitely short & sweet/terse vs. verbose! & I swear my one cat has a human brain or was a human in a former life, he KNOWS things, talks back to you, & even touches you with his paw if you’re not paying attention to him & he wants attention lol
I hope you guys have a great weekend, Karen πŸ™‚

  166. Susan T. says:

Today I snuggled ALL THE KITTIES! I went shopping at our local hardware and they have a store cat who wanted me to carry her, so I did of course. Then I went to a friend’s for a BBQ and snuggled his two cats. Then I went home and snuggled my own two kitties. So a pretty good day was had! πŸ™‚

Wet Hot American Summer is a fantastic movie.

Sadly allergic to dogs and cats (especially πŸ™ ) so can’t comment on their vocal levels. But give me a Claritin and I’m a good pet aunt to those that cohabit with my friends.
My MAC collection has come full-circle. I remember when it was first launched and we all ran to have their MUAs do their magic with us. While the lipsticks mostly spoiled and had to be tossed over the years since, I’ve kept virtually all the powders and liners. It’s amazing how many have remained standards. And last year, a MAC MUA suggested I try a lipstick that was going to be a hot color that season: Dubonnet, something I’d worn so many years back. Bought it right away and still love it.

  173. Tania G says:

We used to have a very vocal, adorable and funny parakeet. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of 13 and we miss him every day. Now we have a very quiet goldfish. Enjoy your weekend!

    I’m a visual learner! πŸ™‚

  175. Jen L says:

    Hello,

My cats are oh so very vocal. “We want to go out,” is the biggest concern they voice. They do not have an outdoor kitty commend centre, so I must accompany them while they are on harnesses, so it isn’t just an ‘open the door’ kind of thing. I can sometimes distract them with treats or attentions!

  176. Kathy Smith-Woodcock says:

I am a makeup person from Canada rural Ontario who has yet to try anything from Mac cosmetics, what would be a good couple of products to try want to try fix plus for sure.

What’s the first mac product you ever used? I wanted to get my makeup done for my wedding, but the makeup artists around here wanted $150 and I just couldn’t stomach that for ONE day. So I went to Nordstrom and had a MAC makeover and bought everything they used. I think I spent $130 but I had all the products to show for it.

  203. Kelly says:

A favorite poem of mine, as childish as it might be, is “The Garden” by Shel Silverstein. It’s about a farmer who grows jewels and gems instead of fruits and veggies, like pink pearl berries and gold pears. At the end, he stops and dreams about just having a peach. As a child I loved the descriptiveness and mental imagery, and as an adult I love the underlying message.

Oh, yes, my pets are vocal. We have 3 parrots, Jezebel (African Senegal), Pedro (White Capped Pionus), and Zeus (Congo African Grey). Jezebel tends to have “fits,” where she flaps her wings and screeches. Zeus chastises her and says, “Jezebel! Jezebel parrot! That is ENOUGH! That is NOT necessary!” If we are eating, Pedro will start begging and say, “Pedro eat! Pedro eat!” Zeus never fails to reply with, “Pedro shut up, Pedro shut up!” We do not teach these phrases, they actually think in abstract concepts and put them together themselves, which is what makes it so funny!

Ooh I hope you love your class at Sephora. I’ve been to 2 so far and I loved them. The classes were very laid back and relaxing. It kinda reminded me of having a slumber party and playing with makeup. I was suppose to go to the day to night smokey eye class this am but they had to cancel it. The class is tomorrow night and I’m working. I’ll just keep watching for the next one. I walked into my first class with my coffee. I figured they’d either ask me to throw it out or they’d say nothing. Thankfully, they didn’t seem to care that I had it. This was good considering I worked until 11pm the night before. Have fun

Hi Karen I actually write poetry and like this one I wrote recently, I hope you read it!!!!!

    Mother Nature takes her toll
On complex creatures with gentle souls
She sends them rain when they seek solace
Her stars shine so bright it leaves them Aweless
Rays beam the brightest when they’re down
And shines their warmth upon their frowns
She opens their third eye so they might see
The striking beauty in a rugged tree
They look more closely and discover
That her roots connect us to each other

I think the first mac product I ever tried was Please me lipstick I was 14 and remember thinking “this is a beautiful, princess like pink”. I still have that tube, since I’ve turned to more dramatic lipsticks now, so yeah, Please me has been lacking love.

  306. mrsshukra says:

The first MAC product I used was the foundation!

  307. Ana says:

    Is your pet very vocal?
I have 2 cats (girls) and they are not very vocal. The older one is very quiet and has the tiniest meow ever, I love it. And the youger one (8 months) is a little bit more, she is very loud when she wants something or when she climbes very high somewhere. It’s like saying “heeey look what I did!”

  308. Sarah says:

First ever mac product I used was a baby pink lipglass which when I was 17 was *expensive*, and I loved how it swatched and the colour was ok but the more I wore it the more I hated it! It took me so long to get back into mac and try more things, now Pro Longwear is my every day jam and my lipstick collection has gone from zero to… slightly embarrassing in the last six months!

  309. Rosemary says:

Is your pet vocal? Girl, I have two Siamese cats. They talk so much, any day I expect them to break into the “We Are Siamese” song from Lady and the Tramp. πŸ™‚

  313. Shradha says:

Hi, I have recently come across your site and your contest, so am giving it a try. This is my year for all things makeup. The first product I got from MAC (this year)was Preferred Pink Lip Palette. It was an impulsive buy. Though one I don’t regret. My interest in all things make up surfaced this year. And I was told I had to try MAC. So I went to get one of Cosmo/ Twig/ Mehr lipsticks which I had heard so much about. But they didn’t look me. And then I tried my hands on the palette. The MUA convinced me of mix match among the colors and I bought it. At first I wasn’t sure I’d use Violetta, but that is actually my color to go after a mix with Please me.

I am not a poetry person but one which has stayed with me is the poem ” Agneepath” by Hrivanshrai Bachchan, an Indian poet. Second to it comes “The Apple Tree” by William Blake. I love the way a human life is captured in both these poems. One is about rising, the other about falling.

  314. Valerie C. says:

My first MAC product was Symmetry eye shadow many years ago….it was also the best facial contour ever! It used to come in a large pan too. I miss it!

  315. Julia Kastner says:

I remember you posting earlier “does it feel weird to wear makeup around other people who don’t wear makeup” or something along those lines. My answer is “HELL YES!” I love make…LOVE makeup, but being around people who don’t wear makeup makes me at times feel like I’m too invested in makeup when I shouldn’t be?? Funny thing is before I started wearing makeup, it felt like everyone around me wore makeup and I was the only one who didn’t. Now that I am obsessed with makeup, no one I know wears it to the extent that I do, which is so disheartening. Everyone I know who doesn’t wear makeup says something along the lines of, “I don’t have the time to put on makeup”, which breaks my heart because putting on makeup is the best part of my day! Ha. I don’t think I’ll ever stop wearing makeup (I love it too much) but it does suck that more people don’t see how awesome it is and how fun it can be. It makes me feel pretty wearing makeup and well “why the hell shouldn’t I feel pretty?!?” Haha. Anyways…yeah I feel weird a lot of the time wearing makeup around people who don’t. =\

  316. Shelby says:

I was new into makeup and not very aware about shade issues with foundations. Of course, I didn’t knew I could ask for samples. I don’t know what happened, probably It was something about the lights in the store, but I finally ended purchasing a very, very dark shade. I can’t use it even when I am really tan. Big fail.

What’s the first mac product you ever used?

The first MAC experience I had was the day before my wedding reception. I was new to makeup and I started my makeup obsession with the Urban decay NAKED1 palette. I didn’t have anything for my lips. I wanted to learn and try MAC. I went to Times Square shop and was so excited to get the full treatment. She scrubbed my lips and taught me how to line, how to fill the lines, and made my lips perfect. The first Product I ever used was Angel lipstick. I purchased the Angel lipstick and she encouraged me to buy the liner and a lipglass as well. It was my wedding reception so I did.

Now I am obsessed with MAC and would feel so happy to be treated with a giftcard, but I will also cheer on whoever gets it. Lucky ladies to be considered. <3 Thank you-Cody

What’s your favorite poem? Tyger Tyger, by Dylan Thomas.

What’s the first mac product you ever used? This liquid glitter eyeliner. It might have been counterfeit though, because I bought it off ebay. It had huge chunks of glitter in a thin base and I only wore it once because it cracked and fell off my eyes.
