No, I mean buffer as in applying your bareMinerals makeup. Even if you’re not a great buffer, I’m sure one of these five buffing brushes can help.
As a matter of fact, let’s get this party started with a little giveaway.

- Wet/Dry Shadow Brush

- Travel Case (looks like a fancy Yahtzee cup)

While working at Nordstrom this past summer, Michael Kors came to do a mini runway show and promote his line in store. However, since I was on the floor working, I was unable to watch his show or attend the pre-show party. But later after the crowds had left with their goodies, I got to see Michael himself walk past my department. I only wish I didnt have a customer to help or my store manager walking with him, cause I would have run up to him! 😀

While I was briefly working at a museum in Pittsburgh, ESPN came in to film an interview with two popular Pittsburgh Steelers who played in the 1970’s — Rocky Blier and Franco Harris. To prevent the crowds from pushing in on them, my fellow coworkers and I formed a sort of human barrier between the players and crowd. I happened to be standing right inbetween the two and a little behind, so when the camera focused on Franco, I was on ESPN for about a second!

I met an member of a boy band at a meet-and-greet years ago. My friend won a contest and asked me to come with her. I was underwhelmed by it all, but I don’t know if it was because boy bands were no longer huge, I wasn’t a fan of his or the band, or because he was just so normal!

Would love these brushes! I have a little celebrity anecdote.
My husband and I volunteered to work an event during the Obama campaign. Everyone was chosen for a job but us. So I asked the woman in charge what to do. She gave us what I thought was a crap job and stuck us in front of a blocked area and said to make sure that no one went through. It turns out that it was the backstage area. We stood next to Matt Lauer the entire time. And Obama came out right next to us. So we got to meet him and shake hands. Yay!!!!! Being picked last really paid off for the first time in my life!

Real Famous Person: Conan O’Brien did a speech at my university when I was a grad student, and we stood in the autograph line afterward and he signed FedEx envelopes for my boyfriend (it was the only paper handy). Apparently there was a running joke about wearing FedEx envelopes on one’s head, but I was a little old lady of a college student and never stayed up late enough for Conan so I didn’t get it.
Pseudo-Famous Person: I have two cousins who have been on TV, one as a small-part player on several shows (a reenactor on America’s Most Wanted, a bartender on a soap opera, etc) and his brother, who was on… COPS! (As the arresting officer!)

I’ve had a few run-ins with some pseudo, and real celebrities, but I think my favorite incident was when I met Michael Showalter. What an adorable man! I’ve lived in LA for over five years and the closest I’ve come to running into a celebrity was the time I saw Gary Sinise having lunch with his family at Fin’s in Calabasas. A small part of me wanted to say, “Hi lieutenant Dan!” but I would never do something that annoying. 🙂 Also, I’m pretty sure I saw Garcelle Beavuais at the Gelson’s in Encino once but I’m not sure if it was her. It probably was. She’s drop-dead gorgeous in person – flawless skin.

Way back in the 80’s when I was a little ballet student in NYC, I used to shop at the same grocery store as Ric Ocasek and Paulina Porizkova. I used to work at a call center for a loan/lease company for vehicles. Ben Stein (the teacher from Feris Bueller, he does Visine commercials now) called in about his vehicle. I didn’t see the allure and wasn’t nervous. So I started a conversation with him for my friend’s benefit. He dressed very modestly in a flannel and jeans. But he did have bloody make-up all over his face still. He acted very normal. I told him that after seeing his show I thought that he was kind of a freak. He thanked me! And we continued talking for awhile longer. Weird!

Oh man, I’ve had two exciting almost-brushes.
#1 — I am a GIANT Beatles fan — ludicrously so, considering I was not around for half of the 80s, let alone the 60s. Anyway, back in 2005, all I wanted for my birthday was to have a ticket or two to the Paul McCartney concert nearest to my college (I actually ended up going again this summer, too, but that is another story for another day). The problem is that the seats were all sold out, so I had to go through a scalping agency to get them. I took a bit of a gamble, and bought tickets that were seriously discounted in the row R of the 100 level that were noted as having a “possible limited view.” When I got to the concert, my tickets were as far to the side as possible (near the stage entrance), but the view was not obstructed at all; in fact, I was close enough that there was no reason to look at the big screens. The concert was freaking amazing, and I turned into a classic screaming Ed Sullivan Show-esque fan girl. After he finished his second encore, I was jumping up and down like a crazy person, blowing kisses to a man 44 years my senior. He took a step off stage, when I guess he caught a glimpse of me out of the corner of his eye, because he took a step back and turned around to blow one straight back at me (and, yes, I was the only one nuts enough to blow kisses, so it was clearly directed to me). I spent the next ten minutes squealing with glee:
Me: HE BLEW ME A KISS AHHHHHHHHHH
Friend: I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW I CAN’T BELIEVE IT
Shitfaced mid-50s man near us: YEAH HE BLEW IT TO ME TOO, HONEY!
It was fantastic.
#2 — This speaks volumes about how much of a nerd/liberal/nerdy liberal I am, but I will share it anyway at the risk of being judged. My extreme lameness should be at least a little entertaining regardless of political ideology.
I was on a plane with Al Gore. Let’s let that sink in for a little: sure, Paul McCartney is first, and always will be, but I question whether that really counts as a brush with a famous person in that I was so far away, and this experience certainly beats out when I actually met and shook the hand of Kevin Sorbo as a child at Universal Studios. Yes, I fully recognize this is more exciting to me than it should be. This is not meant as a means to incite a political dispute, because I fully accept that this makes me at least somewhat pathetic. You do not need to remind me.
Okay, so, this was about a month after the London-Heathrow terrorist plot bust in ’06 when all the liquid outlawing started. I was flying from Edinburgh (Scotland) to Heathrow in coach, and he was in first, so if I had tried to move up the plane, I probably would’ve been tackled to the ground and tasered (like I could possibly injure anyone — I weigh approximately two pounds). I spent all my time on the plane thinking about, oh Gosh, what would I say to Al Gore to not sound like a lameass who actually contemplated what she should SAY TO AL GORE, and how this probably meant I should not tell him that I had my mom get his autograph for me at a meeting (we’re from DC, and my mother does enviro things) when I was in third grade and how I brought it to school for show and tell that week. Of course, by the time I got out of the plane, he was nowhere to be found. It was truly a heartbreaking experience.
These are my tales of fame. I’m sensing some serious jealousy from the latter story…

A few weeks ago, I stood right next to the man I have idolized since I was a preteen. His name is Emanuel Sandhu and he is an accomplished Canadian figure skater, singer, and also dancer on So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Not only is he drop dead gorgeous, he is also Half East Indian and Half Italian. Being of East Indian descent myself, I grew up admiring him and his talent on the ice and it gave me hope that maybe one day I could have the same chance to be there on the ice as he is. A few weeks ago I was at Sephora which finally opened its doors for the first time in my province just a few months ago and I noticed this gorgeous man, looking around as though it was his very first time being there and he was letting it all sink in (Emanuel is known for wearing makeup during his figure skating days). He walked past me, looked at me, stood next to me and I was *sigh* in a blissful state to say the least. Because of this man, I used to go through the sports section every day to see if there was an article on him. I would clip pictures of him from the paper. I am 23 now…and although I don’t keep up with figure skating the way I used to…I have still been and always will be a big fan of his. I wish I had the guts to go up to him and say hi…but I didn’t want to bother him. Needless to say, I was still very fortunate to see him…and at Sephora of all places!

I met Liza Minelli one evening and she got down on the floor and played with me.
I was about 18 months old.
This was about 1971/72, and Liza was HUGE at the time.
You can imagine my parents surprise when they went to this dinner party (one they had monthly with several close friends) and my uncle and brought one of his friends and his friends’ date, none other than Liza Minelli. No one had told my parents, I guess they were trying to keep it quiet. We lived in south Arkansas, so it wasn’t something that happened often.
The coolest thing about it was, NO ONE acted like she was famous. No one asked her about her career, acting, her mother, nothing. My dad said that they just treated her like a normal human being. No pictures, no autographs.

I did Raquel Welch’s makeup!! When I was working in the cosmetics dept. at Neiman’s in Dallas she came in to shop with her entire “clan” of assistants and bodyguards. She is incredibly beautiful in person…she is a truly beautiful diva inside and out. She was classy, friendly, and kind…but also very specific about her likes and dislikes while being open to my suggestions. Anyway, she allowed me to apply a new bronzer, blush and lippie trio (liner, lipstick and gloss) to her oh-so-perfectly beautiful face and then she bought several of the items.

I won a trip to L.A. last summer. Actually, the trip´s main purpose was to meet Rose McGowan (from Charmed and that Quentin Tarantino movie), but she kept delaying and canceling the date of our meeting (and that delayed my trip, I had to wait almost a full year to go!), so I asked the contest people if I could just go to L.A. without meeting her, and they said yes. So I got to go with a friend of mine. This is what we got for free: hotel room for 5 days+plane tickets+rental car+ some cash.

I was in Moscow, Russia, at Red Square, around the same time as the Backstreet Boys (back in like, 2000 or so). I had no idea at the time, but my best friend, who was obsessed with the Backstreet Boys, was convinced that we were in the same place at the same time, lol.

When Hugh Jackman (a.k.a Wolverine) was starring on Broadway in the musical The Boy From Oz. When I found out that most of the performers arrive 90 minutes before the show, I took a chance at waiting by the stage door. It was a really, really, really cold night (like 13 degrees), and no one else was there. When he arrived, I blubbered (naturally but didn’t cry). After my autograph, I asked for a hug and he gave me one. Nearly 6 years later, I still get the vapors when I tell this story. 🙂

I was on TV twice, it was local TV. I was in a choir while in middle school and we sang on a TV program. The second time I was an adult. I had a 30 second public service announcement about our union. I met Willie Mays the baseball player while I was working at Columbia records. I waited after a Phillies game a very long time ago and saw Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt and other members of the team. Also saw some of the opposing team the Dodgers. I was also in line to go on the Jungle Boat ride in Disney Land. Right near me was Michael Caine and his beautiful wife. This was also very long ago. I couldn’t believe how stunning his wife was. That was the extend of my celebrity and also my sighting of celebrity. Thank you.

I used to do computer trade shows and when I was in San Francisco doing a demo, Harry Anderson from Night Court stopped by our booth. I was the only one who recognized him, and he put his finger up to his mouth and said “ssshhh!” I finished the demo, he said “great job,” winked, and walked away.

Adam Sandler has been filming a movie in Massachusetts for the past three months… well I decided to visit the shoot the next town over from me and was able to see and wave hello to Rob Schneider and Kevin James. Sadly, I never spied Salma Hayek, Adam Sandler or Chris Rock.

Served Paul Newman a hotdog in high school while waitressing in Rockport, MA, he was still hot. Didn’t really appreciate it at the time. While bartending, served Steven Tyler, Gary Cherone from “Extreme”, other assorted musicians. Met Steven Spielberg, Ellen, and walked up my street with Magnum PI, Tom Selleck while they were filming in Rockport. He was shy and seemed shorter. Had Rob Schneider butt in front of me to pay a cashier one penny that he owed her for overpumping gas!! He was little and cute. I never mean to bump into these people, honest. Although I have to admit when George Clooney was filming the “Perfect Storm” in town, I wish I bumped into him. Saw him playing basketball in a parking lot.

Dev Patel (from Slumdog Millionaire) is some kind of a far away cousin of mine. I should have paid attention when my mom tried to explain it. It’s one of those “he’s a cousin of a cousin’s aunt’s sister-in-law’s younger sister’s….etc.” kinda relationship. LOL.

My closest brush w/ fame was when I was buying balloons at Hallmark for my sister’s graduation a few years ago and the girl in line in front of me was Danielle Fishell, the chick who played Topanga on Boy Meets World. I didn’t realize it was actually her — but I told her that she looked a lot like her and she kinda smiled. I then said, “I bet you get that a lot, huh?” And she said yes. I left her alone after that.
My friend was having dinner at Benihana’s after that and saw DF there celebrating her sister’s bday and got a pic w/ her… So close yet so far!

My closest brush to fame: I was around 10 years old, and my summer camp took a field trip to Yankee Stadium for a tour of the stadium while the Yanks were out on the road. We all had the chance to run through the field. One of the other kids ended up tripping over the pitchers mound, twisting his ankle. It just happened that ABC news was filming a segment about the stadium. I ended up being interviewed by the newscaster, to explain our day… by the time we got back to Brooklyn, I was a local celebrity, all my neighbors telling me, you’re famous Vanessa! saw you on the news Vanessa….. ahh my 1 minute of fame lol
