One thing I’ve noticed about getting older is that time seems to move a lot faster than it used to. It must be a side effect, ha!
Like, I can’t believe 1999 was 10 years ago…
In the summer of 1999 I was hooked on Krispy Kreme and Cibo Matto. I’d moved back home after college and remember how tough it was adjusting to life back under my parents’ roof.
As much as I love my family, that summer was rough. Turns out I wasn’t the same person I’d been when I first left for school five years earlier.
There were lots of arguments, and sometimes I’d have to just get away. Most of the time I’d hit the local drugstore to hang out in the makeup aisle, like some weirdo lipgloss stalker.
It was on one of my late-night drugstore runs that I discovered the Rimmel makeup line.
I dug the simple packaging, price and mix of bright and neutral colors right from the start, and since then several Rimmel products have become staples in my makeup bag.

In summer of 1999 I was like…4, and my family took a vacation to the USVI island of St. Thomas. I went to the beach and met my first iguana!
That’s stretching my brain a bit… I was enjoying the break from high school. Most likely I was running several miles and volunteering at our awesome city day camp. Not to mention watching Can’t Hardly Wait (was that out yet?) and Empire Records a million times with my good friend. Those were the days…
In the summer of 1999 i 9 years old an about to enter 5th grade.
I was entering junior high– it was the worst school year of my life =( ! i also absolutely LOVED Britney Spears in her Baby one more time days~

The summer of 1999, I was just finishing grade 7. I had a summer job at a day camp with my best friend. When being interviewed, we didn’t specify which age group of children we wanted to work with. We ended u being stuck with 5 year olds and had to change them prior to going swimming and after. It was tough, especially changing them while just coming out from the pool. Both my friend and I got super tanned and burned a couple of times. it was a memorable summer because it was the first time we both worked together and had lots of stories to share when dealing with our respective camp groups.
In 1999 I was only 10 years old. During the summer I went to a camp in Lake Tahoe. I will never forget it. We river rafted down the Truckee River!
Summer of 1999 I was spending my summer days at soccer and karate practice!
I was a junior in college doing a research internship in Little Rock, Arkansas of all places! Not far from the birth place of Krispy Kreme, it turns out.

Actually, I celebrated my 19th birthday by going to a rave in the desert. Yeah, I was one of those baggie pants, crazy hair, glow stick dancing fools… actually, I had a lot of fun that summer but mostly because I was irresponsible and carefree.

1999 was spent in grade 3, agonizing over multiplication.
In 1999, I was in Wisconsin with my mom and brother while my dad was in Panmunjom, South Korea for the military. I was in fourth grade. It was a very hard year (1998-1999) as my dad was away and he almost died there. He came back still sick in June 1999 and we then moved to Great Lakes Naval Base, here in Illinois. We were still trying to catch-up and repair ourselves as a family while moving. I spent a lot of my summer unpacking and at Lake Michigan with my Greyhound Porsche. She loved sprinting down the tan beach. She was such a gorgeous dog to watch sprinting down the beach at 45 plus mph! It was a hard but fun summer.
In the summer of 1999 I was 12 and enjoying my first summer camp. There were a lot of cute boys!

Well..in ’99 I was cultivating my obsession with the mighty morphin power rangers. LOL, I had recorded the movie and everything. I was 7 I could get away with it back then. That and thinking that Leo was the baddest ninja turtle there was…just because his name was leo.
I always wanted to be the Red power ranger anyways…cuz he was the leader and the pink and yellow chicks were big boring bags of chocolate raisins. You know…a complete waste of brain power because if people dont like raisins, puttin chocolate on them aint gonna help. LOL

The summer of 1999 was the first summer I stayed in Davis. I had just finished my second year of college and I was taking a couple of Summer Session classes (hmm, I don’t remember what they are now, though). It was a hot, kinda laid-back summer for me.

In the summer of 1999, I had just graduated from high school in Florida and was gearing up to go to college in northern California. I had nightmares every night from the anxiety of moving cross-country and spent almost every day soaking in the sun and meeting boys in effort to get me through a possible dry spell!

I was terrified of the world ending, I believe I was in Elementary and determined to become a famous artist.

I got my first job in 98. With the money I saved that first year I decided to treat myself to a trip to London. Spent a couple weeks there and loved it.
In the summer of 1999, I had just finished the worst year of my life!! 6th grade was horrible!! I was glad to still be alive!! [Kids were mean and am I glad those days are over!!] I enjoyed some time in Houston and began my love affair with cosmetic products, though sadly I didn’t get to enjoy it. haha.
Let see I was in summer school getting ready for 7th grade…I can clearly remember this because this was the year my dad finally let me wear make up!! LOL!!! I remember wiping my make up off in the care on my way home from school before my dad seen…lol…he finally got tired of me asking and gave in!!!

It was so long ago, but I remember it like yesterday. I just moved out of my parents home and moved in with my boyfriend at the time. It was a crazy adjustment, but I definitely appreciated and respected living at home with my parents after that.

I was a middle school kid on vacation, bored out of my mind and bouncing off the walls everywhere. I was put into swimming classes to try to de-energize me. Once a week my dad would bring me donuts(!) as a treat after classes. Thus began my life long love of both swimming and donuts
LOL. Hm… the summer of ’99 I was 11 and getting ready for 7th grade. Man, that was a long time ago. That was before I started doing science fair and before I discovered the internet and I’m not sure my memory stretches back that far lol. I probably spent the summer listening to Britney with my girlfriends and going to the movies whenever I could scrounge up the allowance ($1 a week back then lol).

Gosh, so long ago! I just finished grade 8 and was probably watching movies with my bestie and shopping.
God, it seems like just yesterday. That was the summer before 8th grade for me. That was the summer that my voice teacher told me that I was better suited for opera than musical theater. I was disappointed at the time, but I’m really glad now. Plus, I definitely DO sound better singing opera!
Also, that summer, I went to an outdoor adventure camp, where the kids were actually nice to me. I realized that the fact that the kids in my middle school picked on me for being smart meant that they were pathetic — not me.
As for beauty milestones, that summer was when I first tweezed my eyebrows! Man, I needed it. I have been blessed with tons of hair on my head and long, thick eyelashes, but with that comes bushy brows…
Summer of 2009 is a memorable phase in my life. That was when I first stepped out of my home and migrated to a different city to live and study all on my own!
10 years on, I am married, have a daughter and still live in the same city!
In 1993, i was 16 years old and i was at high school. Trying to be popular at school and working hard to have high grades. I was using only mascara and some eye pencils. Aaa i was too young = )
Summer of 1999..mmm.. I entered into my 3rd year of college. Typically college opens in June and it was hot. Usually about 32-40 deg C. I remember my friends and me gossiping outside the college.
I remember walking back home after college. It usually takes about 25 min and then mom has my Watermelon juice ready in the fridge
. Remember watching MTV and I was a fan of Backstreet boys (I want it that way)and the other favourite was Believe by Cher.
I was enjoying my first summer as a High School girl. =) Having fun with friends from my all-girls school, attending concerts, sleep overs, mall-hopping and shopping!
It was also that summer of 1999 that I met him and fell truly, madly, deeply in love. (But four summers after, the love just didn’t work.)

Summer of 1999 — it was my first summer home after completing my freshman year of college. I had just gotten my first car — a red Pontiac Sunfire that I nicknamed Bono (after Sonny Bono). I was working my first “real” job as a runner at a car dealership in between frequent outings to the mall and hanging out with my first serious boyfriend.

In the summer of 1999 I was 13, so I was home playing video games with my brother and seeing my friends as often as they’d let me.
I was working a fabulous job that took me to 3 continents. And I was falling slowly and deliciously in love….with a married man. The relationship stayed platonic, we were the best of friends, and I was on a roller coaster of emotions, going from a high to a low in seconds. Little did I know, then, that by next summer I will not be seeing him again. I can not believe it has been 10 years. I miss him so much.

I was 48 dreading the big 50- now its not so bad – still loving makeup & doing the same thing I did back then – vacations & working & partying – Just a little older.

i was in college and working in h&m – i used to work in the flagship store on 5th ave – this is when they first arrived to the states – i was addicted to coffee about 10 cups a day and was dating a super hot but totally bad for you guy lol
i must say since then i have totally changed – i am happy to have grown into my own skin and have some common sense!!

Wow, summer of ’99! I was 15, and between the 9th and 10th grades. That was the summer that me, my mom, and my best friend went to Disney World. (She’s still my best friend, after all these years.) I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since that trip! Time really does fly. That was so much fun…
The summer of 1999 I had just graduated 8th grade and was about to enter high school. I had so much fun that summer. I spent everyday with my friends going to the pool, mall, watching movies. It was a blast.

The summer of 1999 I was living in VA with my mom and my stepdad. I was working as a cashier at the local grocery store and I was taking Calculus as a summer class to get it out of the way – I drove an hour plus to and from the school I took the class at every day. I remember this as a very boring summer.
Summer of ’99? I was about to enter 5th grade… I think that summer was the field hockey camp summer. I had aspirations to go pro until I figured out I wasn’t actually that good at it… Four more years, only 1 actual game win, and I took up running – much better sport for me…
Oh but I also looked fierce in my occasional blue mascara – my mom was just happy I had stopped borrowing her super expensive mud mask!
I was 8 years old. You could think that i would remember at least something, but every memory from year 1999 seems to have slipped away.
The summer of 1999 had me getting ready to approach my final year of college. I had actually closed out my junior year with a bang & was anxious to get senior year in college started so I could graduate. I worked as a waitress in a restaurant on the Jersey Shore with my boyfriend that summer. Lots of great memories. I, too, can’t believe what has changed in my life in 10 years. Amazing!
The summer of 1999 was the summer right after my freshman year at college. I spent the first few months at school taking Organic Chemistry and then came home to work at a now defunct children’s toy store which was lots of fun (I got to wear some of our fun feathery dress-up clothes at work)!

In the summer of 1999, I was a 22 yr old getting ready to graduate from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy and start my career as a state trooper. I was so scared, and excited at the same time!!! Still employed with them after 10 years!!!

The summer of ’99 I was deciding what to do with myself. I had 1 year of college behind me and I didn’t like the college or what I was studying, at all. The Fall of ’99 I picked a whole new field, computers, and I’m so happy I did. I can’t believe it’s been 10 yrs!
In the summer of 1999, I was 14. I couldn’t wait to turn 15 and get my learner’s permit.
It was the summer before high school, so I think I spent most of it pretending that wasn’t going to happen and being nervous.
I was a daycamp counselor at a Girl Scout camp, and I was in a play: The Hobbit.
I played three seperate roles. That of a hobbit, a troll and a goblin. I spent as much time as possible in the green room, playing with their buckets and buckets of stage makeup. I ended up doing the makeup of a lot of other actors because I was pretty good at it.
If I wasn’t playing in the makeup, I was in the costume shop. I tried on everything I could get my hands on. Dresses and frills and shoes. Oh the shoes.
Come to think of it, that may have opened up a lot of my future obsession with shoes/fashion/makeup.
HA… I was graduating college and entering the adult world of trying to find a REAL job. lol. I moved to Orlando not knowing a soul and no job secured. It was definitely a time to remember. :p

ohhh…this is a wonderful memory. The summer of 1999 I met my oldest angel for the first time. I was in awe that something so perfect came from me. Karen, my fella just turned 10 on 15 June and I wrote him a heartfelt letter detailing how much I love him and how special he is to me. And yes, I even borrowed a moment from you and your mom, by telling him that day will always be special to me because it was the day we met. I promise I saw him get just as teary eyed as me, before quickly explaining I’m becoming a dud in my “olden” years!!! Lol!!! I wouldn’t trade that moment for anything else in this world!
Let’s see…Summer of ’99 was the first summer of college. So, by then I was concert hopping and making out with my first boyfriend
Ahhh yes, the summer of 1999 was interesting for me. I quit my job at a small publishing company that I hated in June (after 2 years there) and was jobless the whole summer. It was kinda stressful because I was only looking for publishing jobs and there were like NONE! Went to Vegas for the 1st time over Labor Day and was hooked. Finally got a job in October and that’s when my “Biotech” career began. Good thing too because that place was where I met my now hubbie!

I was 18 and I had just graduated. I headed to the Dominican Republic to visit a friend. It was the first time I’d traveled overseas alone. A very exciting time in my life!!

Summer of 99′. That was a good summer! I graduated from college that spring and got married in July. And moved to southern Utah where the summer midday temperatures were WELL above 100 degrees.

In the summer of ’99 I was just moved to a new home and played around in the garden. That year i turned 9 years and it was a blast. Our garden was bigger then i could imagine until i got stinged by a wasp (and i’m allergic to it).
The rest of the summer i set with a hand as big as my head in the garden… Nice memories

I was doing the same thing you were doing, Karen. I just graduated college and moved back home with my parents, which was hard on all of us. I started my first real job and was going back and forth between my parent’s house and visiting my boyfriend, now husband, who was still in school. Big transition time and a lot of growing up that year.
It was an awesome summer. I was newly single and a single mom for the first time, but after a bad marriage, I was so happy. Spent the summer swimming in my condo’s pool, going out with a great guy and simply having fun. I looked good, I felt good, life was great. I was wearing some kind of fragrance from Victoria Secret that I LOVED. What was the name? It had a yellow sunflower on the bottle – I think it has been discontinued. Gosh I loved those days!!!!!
I had just gratuated from 8th grade and then moved to New York from San Francisco. I remember how much I hated moving to the East Coast at the time. I can’t imagine living anywhere else now!!

Hmmm, summer of 1999. I was 6, and going into Grade 1! Very excitting. I was in with the’big kids’ in the school. haha! All I wanted to do in the summer was start school!
I was celebrating my 16th birthday, hanging out at the beach and spending mucho time with my bffs! I may or may not have also been cultivating a crush on Mark McGrath that summer too… haha!
I had just finished 9th grade and I was absolutely obsessed with NSync. I’d spend most days hanging by the pool and then head inside in time to watch TRL.
I was 11 about to be 12 in the summer of 1999. I was still playing with barbies and pretending to be sailor moon with my sisters and friends. We spent the whole day running around outside not worrying about anything. We were listening to spice girls and singing along to NSYNC.
Responding to that made me so nostalgic and a little sad that I don’t have that innocence and carefree mindset anymore lol.

In ’99, I was in 5th grade probably on the shore of Jersey.
Well, for some reason I wasn’t really training for the next Olympics.
I was six years old and super excited about starting school in August.
I was going into the fourth grade, my brother was just diagnosed with Leukemia that summer!
(He is all better now of course) That was a rough summer for me and my family but we have all pulled through and are much stronger now!
In June 1999 I was getting married. It was wonderful having family from Japan celebrate with us. I had an auntie and uncle that had never been to the states before. My side of the family looked so beautiful in the pictures. Mom and aunties in there kimonos and my cousin in his hakama. My soon to be hubby shed a tear when he was saying his vows. He of course denies this and says it must have been his allergies. It was the wedding I’d dreamed of and so hubby got to pick the honeymoon. He chose Fiji and we spent ten incredible days there. Hubby and I are grateful to have these memories.
Starting over! Married seven years to the wrong man. Was happily starting over, found myself a a cute rental home and was enjoying life again. Yeah me!

It was technically my last summer to do whatever I wanted that was not career oriented! I worked for the recreation department in our city, which was lots of fun!

Summer of 1999 I was looking for an apartment and finally moving out of my mom’s house. I owned a futon, a donated loveseat and lots of long stretchy dresses and clunky shoes.

oh my goodness!!! 10 years ago i was 10 years old! I was at home along with my brother as well as 10 of my cousins around my age being baby-sat by my grandmother while all of our parents went to work. Those were the good ol days

Wow, I was 10 years old! That was a big summer for me, now that I think about it. After my mom kept having to pull my nose away from the TV screen, my grandpa finally had the idea to drag me to an eye doctor, which yielded me my first (of many) pair of glasses! The girl in the glasses I truly became. I also got braces and my ears pierced, all in preparation for my first day of 5th grade, haha. That was indeed a summer of change!

In the summer of 1999, I was only about 8. But I remember going to the pawn shop with my mother as she was selling her wedding rings. She divorced my father when I was 2 and she had kept her wedding rings for that long. But since she was a single parent, she had no way of paying for her bills. I was 9 years old & had just finished 3rd grade, about to skip to 5th grade. I don’t remember well, but I read a lot of books that summer, and painted ceramics at a local recreation center!
The Summer of ’99 was rough for me…I was recovering from a difficult breakup with a guy I had dated for nearly five years. He wouldn’t/couldn’t commit beyond the boyfriend/girlfriend level of our relationship so I made the decision to end the relationship and move on with my life. Really, really tough at the time…now I know it was a really, really wise thing to do!
In the summer of 09′, I was 10 (wow I so wish to have those days back), anyways I was trying to recover from a culture shock, I was constantly struggling to fit in the American lifestyle and still hang on to my Pakistani heritage,
So ya in short it was my first time being back in my home country since I had moved to America, so I got to meet new people see new places
it turned out to be different but in the end a pretty decent summer
Although I’ve blocked out most of those memories of my foolish early-twenties, I’m pretty sure I was playing house with my then-boyfriend-turned-ex. :/

Thanks for holding this contest! —Summer of 1999, I was 13, in the 7th grade going on 8th and was in summer school (for the “fun” of it, seeing friends and having something to do I guess). After school I would go to my dad’s work, hung out, waited until it was time to go home. I hadn’t picked up make-up yet =)
The summer of 99 was spent having fun with my toddler son and working. It was a great time for us.

but sad when we said goodbye. 10 years later– he got married this year!
I had just graduated from college and was working at a 5* hotel. I took my first paid vacation to France for my now BIL’s wedding.

I remember just working and working. I worked for the Postal Service. I worked nights and that sucked. If I got up in enough time I could be out and in the sun. It was hard to be with anyone because I worked weekends. No one was off the same days I was. That really sucked. It was nice for shopping though. If I wanted to do anything on the weekends I had to use my annual leave. That got used up fast if you took alot of days off. Nothing happened that was memorable. Just life. Wow…the summer of 1999 seems sooooo long ago! I was in the second year of my enlistment in the Air Force stationed in Biloxi, MS.
I just turned the ripe old age of nine in the summer of 1999! Of course, I was partying like it was 1999 a la Prince. I was playing on little-kid sports teams and participating in the drama club. I also traveled to see my cousins in San Antonio! Oh, the joys of childhood!
I was at an all-girls summer camp where we learned riding, archery and riflery. Ha!
I was 20 turning 21 in Summer of 1999 and still lived with my parents + Grandma. Living in an asian household is no joke ( Rules after Rules ). Just like you, I would hit the local drugstore before going to a party or date to check out their make-up and bathroom aisles. I am addicted to make-up and bathroom necessities ( shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc ) and would spend an hour or so there checking their new stuff. I used to wear color mascaras back in the day and I loved them!
I was 10 in the summer of 1999. It was getting pretty close to the new millenium and I still remember watching all these reports and shows about how scared/suspicious everyone was of the world coming to a complete technological stop. Specifically, I remember spending a lot of time making tiny bead jewelry for myself and my friends.
Wow… summer of 1999, huh?! Bringing up some good memories–that was the yr I finished high school… 2nd happiest day of my life–I HATED high school (I should say, I hated MY high school). Oooh, contests!!! In the summer of 1999 I was in the Philippines studying my junior year at an international high school near an American Air force base. Absolutely living up the night life in a country that has no legal drinking/smoking age laws. Ssshhh…At times, I was very very bad. Lived and learned, nonetheless, and the experience made me mature 1000x faster than I could imagine. People now call me the “granny-in-disguise.”
