Wow. Well, I know what El Hub would say. “Build up nothing and trim down EVERYTHING.” LOL! 🙂 To his credit, the poor man has been drowning in an ocean of eyeshadow palettes for years.
Seriously though, I’d like to build up my Chanel Stylo Yeux eyeliner collection, because they’re my favorite liners, and I want all teh pretty colors. ?
I’d also love some Chanel blushes from the permanent line! — ooh, and some more cream eyeshadows. And a small army of purplish taupe cream shadows would be nice. And I’d love to flesh out my drugstore makeup collection until I had affordable versions of every single one of the basics — under-eye concealer, mascara, a black pencil liner, etc.
As for things I could definitely push the “Pause” button on…I have enough neutral eyeshadow palettes (ALL OF THE BROWNS!), nude lipsticks, face tints (BUT I LOVE THEM SO MUCH), coral gloss and olive eyeshadow. Oh, and brushes, because even though I always feel like I need the weirdly shaped ones, I don’t. I always end up using the same group of standby brushes over and over, haha!
Isn’t it funny (in a very expensive way) how no matter how long you’ve been “collecting” (hoarding?) makeup, and even after you think you’ve seen every possible color and packaging under the sun, you’ll see another bronze/teal/gold/whatever floats your boat, and suddenly it’s I MUST HAVE THAT LIKE RIGHT NOW!
It’s weird how that works, isn’t it?
What about you? What parts of your collection would you like to build up or trim down?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I was just thinking today when I was using the Sephora lip birthday gift from Bite that I should get the full size of the matte lip crayon, but then I thought “No! No more lippies and no more nudes!” I think I could pare down on literally everything, luckily I have a lot of storage in my bathroom but there’s stuff that falls to the bottom of the pile and doesn’t get used! And I should really go through my nail polish collection and throw out the old and goopy ones.

Probably more and better face bases, you know, products better suited for winter and summer and inbetween. Something light, medium and full coverage depending on my skins condition. Also face brushes. At the moment I have one concealer (light enough for under my eyes but too light for my face and not enough pigment for bad break outs) one face primer and a … Almost medium coverage powder foundation. I want to start getting into the skin looks like skin make up. I just don’t know where to start. Also I hate testing new formulas on my face, makes me so anxious about break outs 🙁

I should pare down on everything 😀 although I’ve gotten pretty good at paring down on base stuff, like foundations, currently own none (use concealer for spot treatment in the summer) and face primers (I actually had to buy one the other day, because I was out). But I have a massively hard time paring down on eyeshadow palettes and lippies. I sold three big palettes last year, for a massive 200 dollars, and gave away 60 lipsticks to friends, but still have way too much.
Nyxx says
I would pair down lipstick. I just don’t get through them fast enough and I buy variations of the same shades! I just packed some up to back to mac because they have gone off.
I could pair down blush and palettes but I am not going to. I am going to try to not buy anymore but the pairing down is probably not going to happen. I gave away 4 this year and I am pretty satisfied. Although I did just pick up two on the weekend (Morphe 3502 and UD Beached).
Real makeup collectors would probably say I need to build up my foundations, primers and eyeliners. I have 2 foundations (Lancome teint idole and Nars CC cream), 1 face primer and 2 eye primers (I have stopped using 1) and maybe 5 eyeliners as I have taken to using shadows as liners. I have no desire to build these areas up. At this point I just need to enjoy and use what I have.

So it would be eyeliners but can’t find a true waterproof one .
When the Eagles ? went into the super bowl I bought a Lancome green and yet another Channel dark green !
All my eye palettes are Channel too !
Connor Claire turning two ! How awesome ?????

Personally, I have so much in the way of cosmetics that if I didn’t buy another thing for the rest of my life, I would have enough to extend at least 30 years beyond the end of my life.
BUT there are always new colors and new shiny things that come out that can easily convince me that I NEED something else!!!

Not sure if this counts as makeup, but I would like to add more skincare products. As I’m getting older I want to take care of my skin in the best possible way. I remove my makeup every night and wear sunscreen, but I want to add some anti-wrinkle treatments.
I don’t need any more nude eyeshadows!
I have started branching out into brighter lip colors and that has been fun.

Ooooh, this is a super fun topic. I think I would like to build up my eyeliner stash. I really don’t have a ton of them. In fact, if I don’t count samples, I may have less than 10. Part of the issue is I’ve got super moist, super sensitive eyes so I tend to stay away from eye makeup unless I’m meeting the husband for a date or I’m really trying to gild the lily for a girls night. Urban Decay liner works like a champ but I’ve only got one of those, in gold.
I should probably stop buying lipsticks until I hit retirement age. Seriously, I have sooooo many pink lipsticks, so many nude lipsticks. And I just sent away for a Bobbi Brown pink lipstick sampler as one of those 500-point gifts. Gah.

At this point, I don’t think I need to build anything up, except maybe skincare. I had been working on building up matteseyeshadows, as I was seriously lacking those in my collection, but I’m in pretty good shape with those now.
I’ve been dabbling more into indie brands that I hadn’t tried before.
I don’t really want to trim anything. I’ve been buying less makeup overall, and trying to use what I have.

I have to admit my Dear Husband would totally agree with yours and I’m gradually coming around to that way of thinking too.
Still searching for the perfect foundation. The one that looks like skin, not makeup, covers or blurs pores, lines and imperfections, doesn’t make me look like a shriveled prune or a total grease ball and lasts for more than a few hours. I would take 8 to 10 hours of lasting makeup.
Other than that, I have so much that I don’t end up using it and when I go through it to pare it down I look at something and go “Ohh, I forgot I had this, I’ll have to give it another try” And of course I never get around to it because I’m always in a rush so I reach for the tried and true and what’s at hand.
So yeah, pare down everything!!!

It’s funny you posted this on the very day I’m going to buy some new makeup brushes. I need some new eyeshadow brushes, a new fluffy powder brush, and a highlight brush.
I DON’T need any more pink lipsticks or tinted balms! ?

I need to stop buying mascaras! I have maybe 4 open right now??
I also own an excessive number of shampoos and conditioners and I’m never happy with any of them. A new set is arriving from Amazon in a few days! I also have way too many skincare products. I just went to see a doctor about my skin, so hopefully I’ll see some improvement from the prescriptions.
I need foundations! I prefer sheer coverage and as a result own no regular foundations! I only really have the Glossier Skin Tint and the Neutrogena Hydraboost. However, I hate buying foundations because I never use a whole container in a decent amount of time. I had a tube of UD Naked Skin, which I like, for years without finishing it before I decided it was really too old.
And I need eyeshadows that aren’t brown and olive LOL
CAT UPDATE: She went to the vet and has a clean bill of health, but is very underweight – adult kitty but only 5 lbs ? And she’s put on some weight since mom and dad found her. It’s pretty clear she was dumped in the woods near my parents’ house, which unfortunately happens a lot. Dad almost cried leaving her overnight for a spay, he really likes her. She likes climbing a lot (got into the attic of dad’s barn, got 20 feet into a tree to outrun the feral kitties) so dad is going to build her some stuff for the house.
This comment is about as long as your post, LOL!
Karen says
GIRL you need all the brown and olive eyeshadows! KEEP ‘EM COMING!
I’m so happy to hear that kitty will soon officially be your little sister. Does she have a name yet? Your dad sounds so sweet, btw.
Chelsea says
She does! So for some context, where I’m from there are two big lakes called Houghton Lake and Higgins Lake. Mom and Dad’s other kitty was named Houghton by the shelter, after Sir Douglas Houghton. Mom and dad are calling the new Tortie girl Lady Higgins.
Dad is a softie. We had a rottie growing up that was rescued from a puppy mill where she was being beaten for not having puppies. She had pups for us a few times, but never more than one or two, so we kind of kept them all. We had 6 rotties at one point, LOL.
Karen says
A classy name for a classy tortie girl. She is so lucky to have found your family.
Your dad sounds like a cool guy! 🙂

Ah love posts like these, I really enjoyed reading everyone’s responses 🙂
I should just stop buying makeup. All makeup. But if I had to be really specific, I’d say eyeliners – I don’t wear anything other than a black (Chanel Noir Intense) or a Brown (CT Audrey, Mac teddy, Mac costa riche). I don’t know why I even bother with other colors or brands.
If I were forced to add more makeup, I’d wish for NARS and Charlotte Tilbury to add more everyday dark skin friendly colors to their power matte lip pigment and matte revolution ranges respectively.

I need to stop buying lip products! I have so many, yet I only use a handful on a regular basis. I also feel content with eyeshadow palettes at the moment (although I am on the hunt for a palette with purple shades…).
I’d like to build up my brush collection. I have sort of a mishmosh collection of brushes I’ve accumulated over the years, but most of them are on the cheaper end, so I’d like to buy some nicer quality ones.
Kim says
I know I have too much of everything since I only wear the same 5 things every day. 🙂 But, while I say that, I would like to find a waterproof mascara that I love. I’d also like to find the perfect lip color for every season. Just one for each season! And I’d like to get some more fave “foundation” options.
Iris says
I’d trim all the blushes I have. Being rather pale skinned, a lot of them don’t work for me. Some are even unopened and I plan to donate those soon. For collection building, I’m a sucker for lipsticks and lipglosses. I have so many but always want more and I constantly use them up.
Alexandra says
I’m at a point where I want to just rebuild my makeup collection entirely, and maybe add more skincare. Nothing out of my stash seems to inspire me these days. It’s like… meh.
