Mine are still p@ssed off at me about the ’90s, LOL!
I ran into a makeup buddy at Sephora last week, and what did we end up talking about?
Brows. 🙂 Of course, hers looked perfect — all lush, full and meticulously trimmed.
I asked her about them, and she said it took her “a whole month” to grow them out.
Cat lady says what now…?
A whole month? Gee, I’ve been growing mine out since May, as in five months ago, and I still feel like they could be even fuller. Sure, Raul, the notorious bald spot on my left brow (curse you, Raul!) isn’t as obvious as he was last spring, but it ain’t exactly like Brooke Shields up in there, if you know what I mean.
I blame it on the ’90s, otherwise known as the decade when I almost plucked my brows into oblivion. I look back on it now as one those unfortunate beauty lessons I guess I had to learn the hard way.
Yup, big sigh…
How about you? Are you happy with your brows right now? Are you growing them out or doing anything else with them? Or are they already thick, wild and jungly, and in desperate need of a thread/wax/trim? Inquiring minds want to know.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. If you and your brows are looking for ideas, there were some fantastic tips in the comments on this post earlier this month: What Are Some of Your Best Brow Tips?

I love how my brows look now. It’s very liberating to be in control with it. Way back in 1998 for my HS prom, the MUA shaved off my brows because thin is in! I dread the 4 months after that.

I just went to a salon to have mine threaded. THe lady that I went to before so I went to this other lady. I was not impressed with the results. I only asked for a “cleanup” but she ended up reshaping the brows.. ugh.. Now I have to wait another month for it to look normal. I am going to the previous lady from now on.
LipstickHoarder says
My brows atm are screaming to get threaded! I have thick brows that take a month and some change to go teen wolf. LOL. But that’s okay though, I like having them grow out and redo them. I made a huge mistake in the 90s/early 2k waxing them. The last wax job took my skin right along with it. Yeeoch! SO yeah, I’m getting them threaded this weekend by at Indian beauty in CT. She’s amazing and always compliments my brows. *blush*

I envy all those with thick lushes caterpillar brows. i plucked mine into death by the time I was 20. literally killed the root in many places. I eventually had them tattooed a few years ago.
Juvy says
I want to grow them out, but they don’t. 🙁

I had a bad waxing about 10 years ago, and my brows are finally looking better. I have pretty full brows now thanks to loads of RapidLash.

I’ve gone through an unfortunate series of having brow ladies disappear without notice from the salons they work at. Now I am looking for a new brow person…sigh. Any suggestions in San Francisco? Help a girl out!

You have highlighted my latest obsession! Do I pencil and use eyebrow powder? gel them? I have bought the special eyebrow brush from Smashbox and am playing with different brown powder combos, too dark, too light! What tweezers do the best job of shaping? Hugs to Tabs 😀

I plucked mine way too thin in HS and through college, I poorly filled them in but they were still kind of Pamela Anderson-esque.
I started working at Ulta and was teased about my thin brows and I decided to grow them out (OMG so hard to do) but eventually they grew in pretty full and the Benefit Brow bar gals took care of me and I had some pretty killer brows… so much in fact that customers wanted my brows! The first time I heard that it made me very happy that I stuck with it and grew them in. I went to the Anastasia waxer at Nordstrom and she did a number to my brows… very sporadic waxing and very uneven. Now I’m having to do a lot of pencil work to get them to look right. Stick with grow out process and shape them later

I started with wonderful full brows, decades ago. Unfortunately it was before Brooke Shields and I plucked them into non existence. I rarely need to trim however I hate the lack of them and waaaay beyond the point of growing back. Alas, I cannot stand the thought of penciling in or permanent brows. Considering those fiber fillers in wands. I hope there will be comments about good natural looking products. One I have read about is Vincent Longo. So many I don’t know where to start!
Kiss & Make-up says
I have a love-hate relationship with my brows. They are very dark, thick and coarse. So they need A LOT of maintenance, I am talking daily tweezing. But when they’re shaped nicely they do give me a very strong look, and I like that.
Chelsea says
I’ve never had my brows professionally done! My brows are a bit sparse from previous Trichotillomania bouts, and on the blonde side (I’m a redhead). I use a blonde pencil to fill them in (right now it’s Sephora Brand, because they discontinued my color in Maybelline Define-A-Brow), and tweeze outliers occasionally. Filling them in red to match my hair looks terrible, so I stick to my natural blonde color.
Sherry says
Yeppers my brows are my enemy numero uno. Bushy Brooke Sheilds lookin’. I never did anything with them ever! Sigh until someone told me I would look soooo different if I did something with them, thus the internet learning I have embarked upon……you spoke to da brows! Lol thanks!
Chic Lapin says
My brows have been the same pretty much forever and no Cara Delevingne will make me want them fuller or darker! I refuse! 😛
SirenPrincess says
I’m currently trying to grow mine out. I actually prefer thinner, barely noticeable brows, so I wax them to death. But I know big brows are in this year. So I’m not tweazing and going to get them much less waxed when I go in again. And I’m using brow products now. I still sorta prefer thinner, but I’m trying to stay on trend.
Ankita@corallista says
My full brows were the bane of my existence during high school because they were just so bushy and I was too scared to pluck/thread them. But few years down once I started shaping them regularly, they look quite nice (if I may say so myself!). I’ve been quite lucky with brows and lashes!
sirilovise says
I live under the illusion that my brows are pretty much clean and tidy with just enough shape and definition to balance my face.
Funny you should mention it, thoguh. I was doing a colleagues makeup, and we got to talking ’bout he brows – she’d been growing out hers for six months, and the next time she’ll have something done it’ll be by professionals, because the frinds who did it the last time left her with hardly anything at all.
Erin says
Mine are looking pretty non-existent at the moment! Although, I must say the NYX brow kit in taupe has given mine a new lease on life. Very natural looking color for once. I’m a natural redhead with light brown brows. (I highlight blonde heavily, but the roots don’t lie.)
Most recc. brow products for redheads leave me with orange half moons- UGLY. I have NO red in my brows, all you cosmetics makers out there! They’re light brown! Sparse, yes, orange NO.
Looking fwd. to the new Benefit gimme brow for some sparse-free days. Btw, haven’t plucked my brows in over 30 yrs. and mine are still few and far between.
Lupi says
I’m very happy with my eyebrows, always have been. They’re one of the only features I never have complaints about. I wouldn’t mind if they were slightly fuller (Ã la Lily Collins), but other than that they’re pretty perfect to me.
Elle says
I’ve been trying to grow my eyebrows out for months now! They end up just getting really long and unmanageable. Last time I got my brows waxed the lady told me I was plucking too far inward. Now I’ve been made aware of it and of course they won’t grow in the spots they need to. I use Maybeline brown eyeliner to color mine in yet look thick and natural. I find eyeliner stays better than actual brow liner. Any suggestions on how to get those little stinkers to grow?
Jennifer Wright says
Believe it or not, I’ve never had my eyebrows done! They’re pretty minimal…not completely non-existent but not big by any means. I’ve plucked a few strays here and there but that’s it. I just darken them for definition with a brown shadow (I use MAC Espresso shadow) since I have lighter hair. At least there’s one part of me that’s low maintenance 🙂
Maggie says
I do have to touch them up nearly everyday (with a trim here, a pluck here) but ever since Lily Collins inspired me to grow mine out, it’s been a lot less maintenance–I’m embracing my natural brow shape rather than trying to reshape it everyday. I do wish more hairs grew in other places and not so much in others.
So far, I haven’t found anyone I trust with my brows yet so I’ve been doing my own…
poo@beautyandmakeupmatters says
I have started doing my brows myself since an year and cant tell I started loving earlier the parlous ladies messed them up everytime and I was left heartbroken .. but now I change their shape and bend them the way i like.. 😀

As it is, I’m juggling with full circumference, hereditary dark circles, acne scars, acne ITSELF… so I made a commitment to full out my brows more than they already were. If I can spend less time filling them in with products, I figure I can use that time to perfect my other pesky areas. Initially, I used the Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die For serum. First, I used it on the lashes until I was satisfied, then moved onto the brows using the remnants left from the tube. That worked. This Mary Kay brow enhancing serum I’m using now isn’t nearly as good, but for my budget it works for now. I’ve heard cold pressed Castor Oil is phenomenal for brows as it stimulates the blood underneath. Any tried and tested Castor devotees?
hanna says
I’m trying so hard to grow mine out, but some how I keep finding the tweezers.
fashionbeautyandsoul says
Castor oil is known to grow brows. Simply dip a Q-Tip into this oils and apply it directly before going to bed and rinse off the next day. within a month you should notice a difference.

I want to grow my brows out but I’m not sure how to go about it.
Erin says
First of all, Garin, I feel for ya.’ I’m 50 and still have probs. w/acne, too. If misery loves company, I’m here.
Castor oil? Would that work on growing brows you never had in the 1st place? If there was never a hair follicle to begin with, would that grow one?
Of all these serums and stuff, would that really cause a biological reaction in the body to grow a fuller hair? They only thing I know of that causes such a physiological change would be Latisse.
I tried the generic Latisse on my eyelashes, and it irritated my eyelids where the lashes come out. I stopped using it way before I could notice any changes.

I’m also struggling to grow my brows out! I nevery had much to begging with but I’m hoping they’ll fill out in due time. It’s been about a year for me and they’re just barely filling out lol
Erin says
I envy all you ladies with the thick, full brows. Personally, I have always thought Brooke Shield’s eyebrows were so lovely. I hated it when she started plucking them.

Thank you @FashionBeautyandSoul
I will definitely give that oil a try =]

Beauty Alert! I just got my order of Benefit’s new “Gimme Brow” eyebrow enhancer. I have to say it’s my Holy Grail of eyebrow makeup. It’s very natural- the most natural looking brow product I’ve ever tried. It does give me the illusion of thicker brows. I do look like I have more eyebrow hairs. It stays on the whole day, and didn’t smudge on my oily skin. The brush is tiny! (only about 3/8″ long) One tip: Before applying, make sure you remove the excess product at the base of the brush. I didn’t do that at first, and put on a little too much with the first sweep of the wand. I got the light-med. shade. My skin is light, and I’m a nat’rl redhead. I think this would work for blondes-med. brown haired people. The color is rather neutral, like a sandy taupe.

I just recently got my brows shaped, so I’m very happy with mine now. I wanted to get them done thinner but the stylist recommended a more natural brow look.
Savannah Burke says
Also contemplating trying Castor Oil on my eyebrows. Have you tried it yet, Elle?
Elle says
I’ve been using the Castor Oil for a few days now Savannah. No noticeable difference yet but I will keep you posted!

I have found a terrific product! Cannot stand pencils or powders or an obviously drawn on look. Laura Mercier Brow Definer, a little pot of a miracle product. My brows are not black, they are not brunette, they are not grey, so little choices. I bought this in neutral and blends in fabulously, Start with a little and build to the look you like. This does not have fibers or other fillers, it isn’t a goopy wand. Recomment it whole heartedly, took forever to find!
JudithDM says
Ooops, the Laura Mercier Brow Definer shade I bought is Warm. There is also fair and light. I had previously called it Neutral, I think the Warm will work for many brow shades!
