Just a quick hello from New Orleans! I made it here in one piece and 1) it’s hot and 2) very humid. I’m not even gonna try to fight my wavy hair because I know who’s going to win that battle. LOL!
My flight out of Oakland was delayed a few hours so I spent a little time wandering around the Oakland Airport.
Um, I might have freaked out a little when I saw this Essie kiosk!
It’s a vending machine with Essie nail polishes.
The polishes are $8.50 each, and if you buy three you get the fourth one free.
Because you never know when you’ll need an emergency top coat or an extra bottle of Flowerista…
(If you’re interested, it’s located at the top of the escalators in Terminal One right after you get through security.)
There’s also a Benefit kiosk, and of course I had to take a pic of their Big Easy tinted moisturizer.
I’m happy to be here and can’t wait to explore the city.
I’ll talk to you soon. I hope you had a marvelous Monday!
This is what I started reading on the plane. So far it’s pretty good
Time for sleeps now because I want to get an early start tomorrow. Sleep well, gorgeous. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’ve seen the Benefit kiosk at Oakland airport, but not the Essie vending machine. It must be a recent addition! I think I couldn’t resist getting at least one bottle of polish just to try the machine, lol.
Lulle says
Oh and have fun in NOLA! Can’t wait to see your pictures 🙂

Hi Karen! I hope you and El Hub have a fabulous time in New Orleans! Just wanted to say that I read The Secret Life of Violet Grant a little while ago and loved it. I hope you do, too! Hugs from NYC. 🙂

Welcome to Louisiana…yep it’s hot and ALWAYS humid! I was blessed with thick curly hair and it is a daily battle living in this environment lol. Oh well…it gives me plenty of opportunity to try all of the frizz products out there. Enjoy your stay!

Have a great time in New Orleans!
Bush International Airport in Houston has both the Essie and Benefit vending machines. I was never tempted to buy anything from them.

I saw one of those Essie kiosks at a recent trip to the Mall of America and just had to take pictures of my own. Nail polish vending machine? Yay! Technology!

Best meal of my life was at Atchafalaya in NOLA. You MUST MUST MUST go.

I love beauty kiosks, they’re too cute! And that Essie vending machine is dangerous, I’d just want to buy all the colors 😀
Lulubelle says
Welcome to my neck of the humid woods! Make sure to do some of the guided tours if you can. Last time I was on one I saw a wedding processional among the crypts in a cemetery – it was other worldly. Gotta love New Orleans!
Rachel R. says
Glad to see you’re already having fun! The little makeup kiosks are so cute. I haven’t flown since 2008. I’ll bet there’s all kinds of fun stuff in the airports there wasn’t back then.
Lisa says

You’re reminding me that I saw the essie vending machine and the Benefit kiosk in an airport, maybe Atlanta, last summer. It really is a clever idea! I remember that humidity in NO, and you’re right, you can’t beat it so go with it. Have a great time!
Lipjunkie says
Oh my god! New Orleans sounds like so much fun :). If I’ll ever visit the states, New Orleans is one city I definitely want to see. Have fun there and hope to read more about it :)!!

Happy, happy Birthday!!! I hope you have a fabulous day (and trip). Enjoy your beignets with a keen eye on the sky. 😉
Ella says
Hey Karen,
what is the crossbody bag you have?
Knittychica says
If I’m not mistaken, there’s a Benefit car in the Las Vegas airport too. I would love to see these pop up in more places, I travel a lot & mishaps occur. Benefit isn’t always my first choice, but I know I can make it work with just about any of their products in a pinch.
Hope the trip is safe & enjoyable.

Get out!!!! I’ve never seen vending machines for nail polish or cosmetics before! Wishing you a very Happy Birthday!!
Jennifer says
Gah! Makeup kiosks are the coolest invention ever! Okay, maybe second coolest after the iPhone. I’ve only seen a Clinique though, never an Essie. I would totally miss my flight with an Essie.
Susan C. says
Happy Birthday, Miss Karen! Enjoy your humid getaway. N’awlins is quite beautiful, especially the architectural detail (all that wrought iron). I second the restaurant recommendation for Muriel’s, even just for dessert — the interior is gorgeous. Also there are fantastic antique stores on Royal, if you enjoy that kind of thing.
Lastly, I would be ALL OVER that Benefit kiosk. Seriously, I’d probably miss my flight.
Lena says
Wow, buy 3 get one free?! That’s a pretty good deal, Essie!
Thanks for the read recs Karen, I’ve been looking for light stuff to read and I remember your last recommendations were spot on.
