OK, I know that going to bed without removing your makeup is a big beauty no-no, but…let’s get real here: it happens.
Back when I was going out dancing a lot in my early 20s, I’d zonk out before removing my makeup at least once or twice a month (GASP!).
I know.
When I’m passing out on a friend’s couch at 4 a.m., washing my mug is the last thing on my mind, but that was a kinder, gentler time for my skin when I could get away with things like that… It was the time before serums, anti-aging creams and skin-related doodads and doohickies, also known as “the time when I could pretty much do anything, and my skin would be OK.”
Oh, how things have changed! I can’t really do that anymore, and ya know what? I don’t want to.
So, yeah, these days, never, although that might change after BG comes along… Heck, I probably won’t be wearing or removing much makeup at all for a while after she’s born. But ya never know!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF!

The thought of not washing off my makeup is horrifying! I didn’t wear much makeup at all in my twenties but I do now and even if I’m having a day where my makeup is looking amazing, I still can’t wait to wash my face. Mostly I really hate the idea of getting makeup on my sofa or sheets. But I did get really into skincare in the last couple years so any spare time I have I want to do a mask or something. My favourite part of the day is usually as soon as I get home and know I’m in for the rest of the day/night. Then it’s fat comfy pants on, hair up, makeup and bra off!!! Ahhhh

Never! Or I guess I should say not anymore. I didn’t properly remove my eye make-up all the way through my early teenage years I’m afraid. Out of laziness and because I just liked that grungy look, ugh… So bad. Now I religiously remove all my make-up before bed though and I take my cleansing routine very seriously.

I’m a little bit disgusting: I almost never remove my makeup before I go to bed.
I know, I know! Whenever I actually DO wash & moisturize my face before I hit the lights, it feels fabulous and I think “wow I’m going to do this ALL THE TIME!” The few blemishes I usually have hanging around clear up, my skin feels more supple… it’s heaven.
But inevitably, several nights down the road I’m snoozing with mascara on my lashes again.
Sigh. It’s pure laziness, I tell ya. I think I need to put a specific time on it or something – 9pm, every night, I remove my makeup. Maybe that’ll help me get more regular about it!

I used to be bad about this but 2 years ago I vowed to never do it again! Once I know I’m home for the evening, I go wash my face.

I can’t remember the last time I slept with my makeup on, it’s been that long. I try to take my makeup off after dinner, before I settle in to stuff on my laptop or watching TV or reading. I usually floss and brush my teeth at the same time, it reduces the temptation for snacking later in the evening.

It still happens, although very infrequently now. I keep makeup removing wipes just for those days when I want to crash into bed and anything more complicated would be skipped, and it works quite well for me.

I remove my eye makeup every time I wear any. Otherwise the next day my eyes are swollen & I see fuzzy. My face makeup gets removed most of the time but not always. I’m lucky because I have no repercussions from this.

The last time I slept in my makeup was about 10 years ago. I was wearing mineral powder, mascara, and a lip stain. I was out with friends, I got incredibly ill out of know where and spent the night at my friends house. I think this is when my allergies really started to go into over drive and that’s what made me sick. My skin felt so nasty, I couldn’t handle it.
Even if I’ve been drinking or have been out until 3am, it comes off! I don’t even use wipes! I will do a double cleanse and at least an essence and either a do it all oil or cream after.

Literally never, except for naps. My skin is super sensitive and finicky, if I even just use micellar water and toner instead of a full wash, I’m in breakout and irritation city (had to do this when the power was out at my parents’ place over Christmas). Also, regarding eye makeup, I would probably get a stye or something.
I also really love doing my skincare routine though, so it’s not a chore for me.

I used to do that in my younger days, but these days the consequences are too high, and I am much more aware of them! Sometimes, I’ll admit, I do “cheat” and only use a makeup remover wipe instead of a full cleanse. The upside is it’s better than doing nothing. I try and do that no more than a couple of times a month. But no matter how exhausted I am or how late it is, I don’t go to bed without removing my makeup.
India says
I absolutely cannot go to bed with makeup on! I keep makeup wipes on my nightstand if I’m too tired to get up.

Interesting question Karen! As I had severe problems with acne in my early teenage years I cleanse my face twice a day everyday very carefully. I had been always aware, that the health of my skin is influenced by the way I clean it. In my early 20s I did the same: fell into the sheets without removing make-up. But! That only happend after a long night which was a little bit too much fun. So when you’re drunk and finally reach your bed, the tipsy head will not think about removing make-up 😀 don’t tell me, that didn’t happen to any of you! 😉 so that’s the only time I missed cleansing my face before sleep.
Do naps also count? Because there I’m lazy, too. I’m not a naping person btw, so it’s not even happening monthly, but when I nap, it’s normally not planned sleep, so I didn’t remove any make up before that.
And I think this happens to many of us: either naping, a really long and exhausting day where everything else is more important than removing your make-up or a fun night out with some shots.
Hope my spelling and grammar was correct.

Sunday through Thursday I remove my makeup and wash my face with my Clarisonic. On those nights, I am very good about following my skincare regimen to the letter. Friday and Saturday nights are a different story. I always use makeup wipes to take the makeup off on those nights, because I don’t want it to stain my couch or sheets. But after that, I never seem to actually wash my face. It’s terrible because by Sunday I do have a stray pimple caused by not thoroughly washing my face the nights before, but I still can’t motivate my myself to do better.

Since taking a shower is my only guaranteed “me” time when I’m not on-call for the kiddos, I would have said never – but a few nights ago I actually did! I was having a really hard time getting the newborn to sleep and had little faith my recent attempt would work so I laid down on the futon in his room. To my surprise, he didn’t wake me up until 3am! After feeding him and getting him back down, I changed into pajamas, washed my face and did the bare minimum skincare. Being acne prone, I don’t like to take the chance.

Sometimes, it just happens! But now, maybe once every six months or so. Now my face just feels so dry and gross afterward and then I have to wash my sheets because it’ll have mascara stains all over the pillowcases!

Never! Removing my makeup is just a must!!! 😛

Even if my kids stay up late at night ..i somehow try to stay awake by watching youtube or something till i get some time alone and then double cleanse! Everytime!

I clicked a couple times a year, ideally it’s better than that, but I’m not willing to say never. When I do it, it’s definitely in that crashing at a friends at 4am way. Because seriously if I am out all night, I’m not likely to wash my face before I actually sleep. The last time I remember that happening was 2013, and I was 27, so maybe I’ve aged out of that one now!
LindaLibraLoca says
Not any more. And I started being consistent pretty early on, when I was 17 or the likes, because my skin was really unforgiving and would reward me with major breakouts.
Of course, a wipe and some soap were what I used, so I should probably have better left it on, now that I came to think of it.
MJ says
Never. One reason I don’t wear much makeup is because I have really good skin, and I want to keep it that way. No good comes out of leaving your makeup on overnight. In times where you can buy makeup removing wipes, there is really no excuse to leave it on.

I’m very diligent about removing my makeup these days now that I’m getting a little older and can actually see the damage it causes lol. From time to time, I will just use a makeup wipe or cleansing water which doesn’t completely get the job done but on a regular basis I double cleanse to get it all off. I just can’t go to bed feeling makeup lol

I usually only wear makeup when I go out, so probably less than once a month, and it’s always a late night, but I ALWAYS take my make up off.
I still get acne (seriously, I thought it would be gone by 26 but NOPE), and one guaranteed way to make a breakout worse is wearing makeup for more than 12 hours, so I always wash it off because I just don’t want to deal with the two weeks of crappy acne that follow if I don’t!

I am SO bad at remembering to remove my makeup! It’s one of those things where I always regret it the next day but I’m just too tired to care at the time 😀
Alicee says
Before I was really into makeup and only wore foundation, mascara and eyeshadow. It happened pretty often, but when I really got into makeup I started taking much better care of my skin. So, these days if I sleep in my makeup it’s because I’m really sick or super tired, but really I only go to sleep with makeup on a few times a year.
