BBC – Thread
In true BBC fashion (i.e. quality), BBC – Thread is a monthly online fashion magazine dedicated to eco-fabulous style. It has to be experienced to be fully appreciated, and I can’t do it justice in print. The interface sort of grows organically under your mouse pointer as you explore each month’s different feature articles, images and videos. Very cool.
BeThree
BeThree hopes to stand out in the growing crowd of online-only women’s social communities/magazines. With sections on beauty, lifestyle & trends, nutrition, travel, life coaching and more, at first glance it looks like its competitors. So, what sets it apart? Spend two minutes on the site, and I think you’ll agree: there’s much to be said for a basic blog layout — clean, simple, not overstimulating. Sometimes less IS more.
Benefit Cosmetics
Ever since the trip to the Benefit counter last week, I’ve been enamored with the line. They have so many fun and quirky makeup products with the *cutest* packaging. Did you know they’re based in SF? Bay Area represent!
Amazon.com – Women’s Interest Magazines
Huge savings on magazine subscriptions. I forgot that Amazon.com sold magazine subscriptions, too. They sell everything else, LOL! Self for $12/year ($1/issue), InStyle for $23.88/year ($1.84/issue), Vanity Fair for $15/year ($1.25/issue) — some of the best deals in magazine subscriptions I’ve ever seen, some as much as 80% off the cover price.
5ives
Just bizarre and thought-provoking lists of 5. That’s it — lists. 5 rejected titles for the latest Coldplay record, 5 “Web 2.0” ways to break up with your boyfriend, 5 more terrible fake reality TV shows, 5 terrible fake names for villages in England… I. Love. Lists.
I’m at a work lunch in a town called Brisbane today, which is a couple miles south of San Francisco. It’s kinda foggy down here. I’m glad I brought a sweater. I hope you’re having a great Friday so far.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Speaking of the Bay area (<3 Benefit as well!), my friend moved out there last year for a nursing job. I just got my RN and he’s trying to get me to move to SF too. What’s it like out there for young single women? I’ve visited once but only for two days, all sightseeing. I assume it’s an amazing city but I want to hear from the locals!
Karen says
Hi Asta,
It’s been a few years since I’ve been single in the city but I remember enjoying it when I made the effort to put myself out there and meet people. It was hard at first because I didn’t know anybody… it helps to have a friend or two already there to make the transition easier, for sure. The fog can be annoying if you’re a sunshine person (which I am). However, there are neighborhoods, like the Mission and Potrero Hill, that aren’t as foggy.
The big thing that’s hard to get used to is that 1.) it’s very expensive to live there and 2.) parking is a pain in the ass… everywhere. The city is a beautiful and vibrant place, though, and a cool place to live if you’re up for adventure.

BBC Thread is incredible! I’ve seen sites that warp like in flash like that before but I like the articles. You said monthly so does that mean they only write new stories once a month?

I love Benefit, especially the Hoola bronzer! Oh and I have a question..I was wondering if you’ve ever tried the clinique moisturizing gel or lotion (the yellow one)? Did you like it? And is it true that clinique’s skincare is filled with chemicals?

Hey Karen!
For magazine subscriptions you should also check out: http://www.magazinepricesearch.com
Search for a mag and they show you the prices at different places, so you can find the cheapest price. Right now they have a year of glamour for 9 bucks, or a year of shape for $3.55!

Hi Melissa,
The major updates are once a month and throughout the month they post little things. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lindsay,
I’ve tried both in the past. The original lotion broke me out, but the gel one didn’t. When my skin was very oily the gel was enough to keep it hydrated, and I liked it. I don’t know for sure if Clinique skin care is filled with chemicals… it seems to be one of those skin care lines that people either love or hate. I do know that several products work for my particular skin, so I think it’s just really up to the individual.

Hi Tiffany,
That’s handy. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Karen, just like you, I am always so thrilled to see the Benefits’ Cosmetics Counter! Not only is their make-up so fun, I’ve never had a bad moment (as of yet) with any of the products!
(But if I have subconsciously, the feeling is masked by the bewilderment of their cosmetics!!!) 😛
Great post!

Hi Marisol,
The weekend went by too fast! I am not ready for Monday, sigh. 🙂
