Design You Trust
Eye candy — straight up — but who doesn’t love eye candy? Design You Trust collects some of the best in cutting edge, urban graphic design. If you need help thinking outside the box, Design You Trust doesn’t even know where the box is or what it looks like. They cut the box up into little pieces and used them to make a collage.
StyleITOnline.com
A former Bay Area girl now living in New York, Sarah Conley brings a fresh, fun take to her fashion and beauty coverage on Style It Online.
UT LOOP!
This site breaks the online apparel store paradigm that says shoppers want to see models and close-ups of the designs. The idea here is all about user-generated video and music. You make your own short films (as a looped sequence) with snippets of web video. It’s fast, fun and very engaging. Oh, and there are some T-shirt designs in there somewhere, lol!
Afrobella
A pinch of beauty advice here, a splash of social commentary there, and an occasional dash of musical musings make Afrobella one hell of a good read.
Loop – News and Nonsense
Loop is as serious about fashion and pop culture news as it is about its own design. It bills itself as a news site for the people, by the people. Corny, but cool.
Tabs Goes to the Vet, Book I
Unfortunately, the visit to the vet this morning did not go according to plan. Tabs was so scared in the car that he lost control and poo’d all over himself in his cardboard kitty crate. It was like yesterday’s cartoon was a premonition; he really did end up riding dirty. 🙁
After consulting with the vet, El Hub and I decided the proper course of action was to return home. Tabs hasn’t exhibited any symptoms of illness and seems fine, so we’ll try the vet again later this week.
The cat bath was … an experience. The poor guy was not happy about the water at all, but within an hour of drying he was back to his usual plucky self.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Happy Sunday!
I am so sorry about the Tabs incident. Glad that he is doing better.
Thank for the sites. I will be checking them out. Where do you find all these cool sites?

Hi Marisol!
Happy Sunday to you too. *raises tea cup*
LOL, apparently I spend a lot of time fooling around. 🙂
Marisol says
I do too and I am glad because otherwise I would have never found your blog. *raises glass of wine*
Not sure if you lived in the Bay Area about oh 5 years ago or so or if you even listen to the morning show on Alice 97.3 but Vinnie their old DJ is coming back tomorrow. Seeing that news made me giddy because I thought that the was hilarious. If you don’t listen to them, then disregard this portion of my comment.

OH yah! I read that No Name totally got canned! Now they’re resurrecting Vinnie. Who would’ve thunk it.
I just remembered something that I hadn’t thought about in a while. When I moved up to Davis I was HURTING for good radio stations my first year there. The hip hop station was total crap so I ended up listening to oldies, “smooth jazz” and “lite rock” for most of my freshman year in college, LOLOL.
Marisol says
If it wasn’t for my ipod, I would have been in music hell here in the Valley. Every station is either plays the same top 40 songs every other hour or they are country stations. I am just not a country fan. I miss investing the time in listening to a morning show. Does Chuey on KMEL even have his morning show or am I dating myself?
I can imagine that in Davis is the same since the closest city is Sacramento. I bet you went to the outlets a lot though.

LOL, I remember Chuey. I never got into his show, though, because I think his was the one where DJ Mind Motion would play those 20-minute sets that were just too much for me at that time in the morning.
When I lived there ten years ago the Outlets were pretty bootsy. I’d go to the Sac mall for amusement.
Do you like living in the Valley?
Marisol says
Arden Fair is so much better than anything around here. I live in Modesto and although they have a pretty decent mall, I would rather take the time to go to Arden Fair or Stoneridge. However, my heart belongs to The Village. LOL
To be honest, moving here was a good move careerwise but in other aspects of my life, it wasn’t. I am actually actively looking to relocate back to the Bay Area (mainly SF) and looking for a job. However, I don’t know if I want to continue in my field (financial institution). I want something that is more fulfilling and not so heavily regulated.

OMG! The Village has totally changed. A bunch of stores that were useful are gone. 🙁 No more Express, Ann Taylor, Crate & Barrel…even the food court AND the Annie’s Pretzel place — gone!
Karen says
Marisol — Do you know what field you might think of switching to? I’ve been thinking of career jumps as well but the economy is making me nervous.
Marisol says
i was so upset when they closed the food court. I like the Cheesecake Factory and all but what if you just want a pick me up and not a full lunch. My mom is going to be so upset when I tell her about Annie’s being gone. Whenever we went to the mall together, she would get a pretzel and I would go to the Apple store. It was like a ritual…
I don’t know what career but I want something that is going to be more fulfilling than what aI do now. However, I have been in the banking industry for 10 years and it will be hard to make a switch out of it. I don’t want to start at an entry level position and not because I don’t want to work my way up. But if I were to live in SF or even Marin, I need to make a decent salary in order to just pay rent.
Yes I have gone to the new B&N in Corte Madera. I like that it is bigger than the previous one and there seems to be much more light.
What field would you want to switch to?

Me too. They do have that hotdog stand but I gotta be in the mood for it.
Now instead of Annie’s there’s an overpriced furniture place with stuff that’s new that’s made to look old. I am quite annoyed by it.
Ten years is a long time and a lot of experience in one field. Maybe there’s a way you can parlay your skills into something related to what you do in a genre you’re interested in? Perhaps finance for a cosmetics company (Benefit Cosmetics is located in SF!). I felt very little fulfillment when I worked in the legal field, which is why I left three years ago. I stayed in there for way too long because of the salary (aka “golden handcuffs”). It was liberating to leave, though, I don’t have any regrets.
I probably wouldn’t switch to something new… I’d like stay in writing, for sure; someday I’d like to have a steady job doing it. That would be nice.
Ah! It’s bedtime and reading time for me. Have a good rest of your night! It was nice to chat with you. 🙂
