Like have you…
- Switched from lightweight to heavy-duty lotions or moisturizers (or vice versa)?
- Incorporated any new cold weather balms or products?
- Swapped out the bright lipsticks in your purse for deeper, darker hues?
- Changed your hair style or color?
- Picked up a new fragrance for fall?
So far — mind you, we’re early in the season — my biggest change has been to my hair, which is now a dark chocolate brown with reddish streaks.
I’ve also started wearing heavier scents, like Estée Lauder’s Modern Muse, and more dramatic eyes and lips, which Tabs affectionately refers to as my “vampire makeup.”
Hey, if I could look like Pam from True Blood, I’d totally be okay with that.
How about you? Have you made any seasonal beauty changes so far? Do you plan to if you haven’t yet? Like perhaps different products in your skincare routine? Or a new color theme to your makeup? Spill the beans.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I am contemplating a much needed salon visit. I need a new ‘do, badly! I am still enjoying the Bay Area’s Summer like weather. My toes are in a bright metallic blue, but my tips are navy and silver. Split decision! But I am so ready to break out all the gorgeous fall nail colors I have gotten(OPI San Fran! Sally Hansen Complete rent the Runway collection, Zoya Cashmeres and new butterLondon) Already got a couple of new fall lip colors(a matte wine and a brownish plum), and using darker eyeshadow and liner lately. But to go with a full on fall look still feels heavy when it is sandal weather here, don’t you think? I am waiting until mid October before I go for full throttle fall looks. I want to wear boots and sweaters again!

I instantly started wearing smoky eyes and bold lips this September. On lesser makeup days I’ve found myself dropping the vivid lip color and keeping my lips nude (only made possible by Sonia Kashuk Pinky Beige). It was hotter than hot this month despite the cooler than average summer but I *will* sport those fall trends! Now if only it would cool down enough for jeans and boots…
Christa says
I’m contemplating darkening my hair color because it’s currently a…dirty dishwatery mouse brown? Which is just making me feel blah about eerything.
I also switched over to more berry shades just this morning. Instead of my usual bright pink or purple lippies, I opted for a sheer cranberry, which was a huge leap out of my comfort zone! I also went for deeper golds on my eyes and a medium berry blush on my cheeks. With my forest green cardigan, I’m a walking advertisement for fall weather! Even though it’s going to be 80 degrees here today…hrm…
Mallory B says
My hair is currently a dirty dishwater-y brown too. It’s a total bummer!

I’ve been wearing more eyeliner, light foundation (sigh..) and definitely darker lip colors, in the red-to-wine camp. I have an intense orange lipgloss that I could probably still rock… but I’ve been trending toward darker pinks and purples and reds for the last few weeks.
I didn’t get a new fragrance for fall, but I started using my faaavorite fall/winter scent again: Boyfriend, by Kate Walsh. Good LORD do I love that scent!! And it just werks *snaps in Z formation* on me, girlfriend. My sister tried it once, and it ended up smelling like Play Doh on her. So weird.

I have totally been feeling the transition to fall- in fact, I’ve been impatient for it! I’ve stowed my bubblegum pinks, shimmering bronzes, and glossy corals (for the most part- they come out to play sometimes). Now all my plums, garnets, and burgundies rule my bathroom counter, accented with deep jeweled emerald tones, and classic nudes across the spectrum. Scent-wise, I have been turning to my Anthropologie Balmoral Rain perfume. It’s so different from anything else I wear (I like fruit scents like lemon and mango in summer). The scent of Balmoral Rain is so unique and androgynous, and it lasts and lasts!

Got rid of my summer highlights and lighter color and went with a dark brown..getting back to my original color. Haven’t rocked any of the berry hues on my lips yet…still trying to hold on to what’s left of the summer. I’ll also have to look for a heavier night cream. The cooler air at night has been wreaking havoc on my chin area!

I switched perfumes and I wear stronger, warmer fragrances now, and tomorrow I am adding a little red to my hair 🙂
Anna says
Oh yes, I changed my hair color as well! I have naturally blonde hair and switched to a nice warm light-medium brown. It brings out my fair skin and green eyes so nicely! And I love to put on some rich dark brown/reddish eyeshadow and berry nailpolish in the fall time. 🙂
Your new hair color looks gorgeous btw!
Brianna says
It doesn’t quite feel like fall yet to me, so I’ve been wearing just super neutral everyday type of things like peachy blush and MLBB lipstick. I’m waiting until the weather cools down and the colors change before I bust out my plums! 😀
Trisha says
The only change I’ve made is to my wardrobe. It was so hot here (Montana) all summer, and then once September 22nd rolled around, it was like the weather was like, “Oh, it’s fall now? Time to drop the temperature about 40 degrees and rain all day long!”
Thus, no more shorts and tank tops.
I don’t mind the rain, though. <3

I bought some fall berry colored lipsticks, which I didn’t have too much of in my collection. And I really want a red/blue grape scented perfume, but I didn’t find any even on the Internet yet (just some cheap looking Katie Price one).
Primpology says
I’ve switched out my pastel polishes for deeper tones and I’ve been wearing a plum and copper eye.

I have resumed wearing my Sisleya Global Firming Serum under my La Mer the Moisturizing Lotion, since my skin is a bit less oily now. In summer it’s all I can stand to moisturise! I haven’t really changed lipstick colours; I was wearing berries along with pinks and corals in the summer already.
My toe nail polish (as a hospital worker I can’t paint my fingernails) has gotten deeper though.
In winter I move the La Mer the Moisturizing Soft Cream. that’s still a way off!
Mallory B says
I’ve busted out my plum glosses and darker red lipsticks. I’ve also transitioned into black liner instead of brown and my eggplant eyeshadow for more sultry days. I’m itching for a change in my hair color, too. Maybe a dark auburn. I’m still looking for my perfect fall fragrance. I have my Daisy for spring/summer, but can’t find the perfect heavier scent for the colder months.
Ava says
Love this post! I recently just started using that oil from Tarte. I have combo skin and it tends to dry up as the cold weather starts. It’s done great for my skin and for my post acne scars. I’m also trying “ole henreksin” products – it came in a value pack: Truth Serum, Night gel, and sheer transformation. And last but not least, I’m using Dr. Brandt’s overnight retinol serum. With makeup, I wear MAC’s Twig (MLBB) or a nice berry shade “Odyssey”. I’m also switching most of my products to tarte – the concealer, translucent powder, and the blushes/cheek stain. I’m seeing if that will make a difference. I’m nearing 30 and skin is more important to me than the makeup. I still love my NARS and MAC but more emphasis with skin care 🙂

Thanks for the reminder to change my moisturiser. I’ve been noticing my skin getting a bit more dry and ashy lately.
I’ve changed my lip colour and eye colour to darker shades

i cut my thick, wavy shoulder+ length hair to ear-length. lots of long layers and messy waves. so i am now wearing heavier, darker eye makeup.

Oh, what a great question! I have already changed many things, though the season has recently started. But we’ve been having autumn weather since the beginning of September in Switzerland, as usual.
I’ve switched fragrances from Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline to La Perla J’aime, which is sweeter and more intense.
My morning cleanser from Shiseido pureness deep cleanser to a Clarins can’t remember the name but is a gel, “energy” something.
I’ve also completely changed my makeup bag, foundation, blush, lipsticks, eyeshadows. I do that regularly anyway, once per month or so. I rotate my makeup.
Danielle says
I have been wearing a bit more eye makeup lately to balance out a deeper lip. Although – even if I’m not going for the vampy lip, I still have been opting for more eye makeup.

It’s still in the 90s here in central Texas and the heat won’t be in in most places for another month or so. I have a fall fragrance I’m dying to wear (Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily), but it will have to wait a while longer. I am mixing my summer BB cream (Lumene in light) with a slightly lighter shade of another BB cream (Ponds, also in Light). The Ponds BB cream is a little more moisturizing, so that will also be helpful in the winter. I usually use the same moisturizer all year, but add some oil to it for the winter or dryer times. Right now I like to add argan oil or WEN oils. I’m adding the oils to by body lotion, too.

My hair got the serious chop. Went from shoulder length to pixie cut. And I LOVE it! Plus I went from dark to lots if blond highlights aaand…. A pink streak. Also, LOVE.

I’ve been more experimental with lip colors nowadays as I left my nude lipsticks for the red and wine ones. I still don’t like heavy eye makeup, though.
hanna says
I did my hair darker!

First, I have to say that you look prettier and prettier every time I see your blog, Karen. Your eye makeup is amazing in the photo.
Now, onto your question… I didn’t wear makeup most days in the summer. Now that the fall is here I have been wearing it 6 days a week. I’ve also been wearing darker lipsticks now that fall is here. I’ve been loving Revlon Toast of New York and Revlon Rum Raisin.
Vanessa says
I’m already upping my moisturizing game. In the summer, I don’t need it. But now I’m applying my “light” lotions, or my skin and hair will be dry… “can’t wait” until I have to pull out the big guns in the winter *eye roll* 🙂
breyerchic04 says
I’ve switched back to a little heavier moisturizer and eye cream (fall allergies are hell for my eyes).
And my go to lipstick is now MAC Sweet Succulence, I wish I’d bought a backup, this is so good for me!
Also I’ve removed UD Flipside and Chaos from my bag in favor of Rockstar and Underground. Sabbath and Zero stayed put. I’m sort of considering a nice darker blush with a little shimmer to trade Coralista for.
bin_du says
I’ve started wearing darker nail polish colours and have switched over from my summer barely there makeup (concealor, powder, blush, brows) to a smoky-er look. I’m still wearing my summer blush shades of coral and tangerine’s however in a month or so thats sure to change as well

As a matter of fact, I just went to Sephora today to update my skincare for the Fall season! As soon as it was officially fall, I broke out my berry, wine-hued lipsticks and have been excitedly wearing them whenever I go out. As for skincare, I decided to get the Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge, Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial, Caudalie Moisturizing Cream Mask, and Ole Henriksen Protect the Truth SPF 50+ sunscreen. My skin has been starting to feel tight and dry thanks to the cooler temperatures so I really wanted to boost its hydration!

I usually wear darker lipstick colors; I use a heavier fragrance (summer: Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs. Fall/winter: Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel. I’m thinking about trying Dot by Marc Jacobs, though; I smelled it and it smells awesome) and I use thicker moisturizer on my face and body. I started using LUSH’s Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner, which is like hair conditioner but for your body. Leaves my skin really moisturized.
I usually get my hair braided a bit farther into the winter, to protect my hair from really harsh winter cold.

I just started adding a little bamboo oil (Alterna?) to my hair before blowing dry. I noticed I’m wearing a bit more blush, too. As my tan (not that it was much) starts to fade, I look more and more like the walking dead without it. 🙁

I got subtle lowlights and 2 deep red streaks underneath my hair ( not exactly how I wanted it, guess we didn’t share the same vision). On days off I’m wearing my pigmented and sheer red lipsticks with a cat eye for day time and then a cut crease and lots of eyeshadow on my lower lash line for night. It seems my eye area has gotten a bit dry so I can’t use my tfsi because it makes my eye area feel super tight so I’ve been rocking paint pots. I don’t have dry skin at all, so I never put moisturizer or oil all over my face ( everything I’ve tried I can’t wear for long because eventually break out) fun stuff. As predicted my skins having issues due to the change if season and temperature (yay) can’t wait till its done freaking out 🙂

My hair was brown/blonde ombre and I got bored so I used an 8K color mousse and now it’s a pretty strawberryish and darker red/brown. I really like it and am scheduled for “real” color on the 13th. I told my genius hair-dresser she can go nuts because I’m ready for a change. SHe will probably do something similar to what I have now but WAY better. LOL I feel blessed that I can give her carte blanche and not have to worry.
Today I am sporting colors from Too Faced Pretty Rebel palette and Divine Wine lippie. YEA!
Yesterday I finally gave up the bright pink on my toes and went with Essie school boy blazer or some name close (it’s a navy/purple?) and OPI Suzie says Feng Shui on the nails. It’s funny because I’ve been looking for a nude nail color and I get close but they are always off a little. THis one, I thought I was getting a taupish something and darned if it doesn’t look nude on my fingers. LOL go figure.
I also got to wear 3 different pairs of boots this week. Granted one day I wore them with shorts but who cares? It’s getting to be time for BOOTS BOOTS BOOTS!
Autumn Rules but I still miss me some summer. 🙁
This was a fun post and I really had a lot to contribute. So much so that now it’s time to go home for the weekend! Have a great one Miss Karen and give Tabs a head butt for me.

I’m switching up my fragrance (been using Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy more often than my usual warm weather Chanel Chance Eau Tendre). I also bought some TokyoMilk perfume samples, so I’m excited to try those.
I’m adding more/heavier moisturizer – TriDerma Facial Redness Repair is my jam. It’s aloe-based, which seems to work well for me – water-based moisturizers don’t do enough for my dehydrated skin, and oils break me out. I’ve also been using a generous sample of the Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist eye cream, which is thicker than I usually use – I like the texture, but I doubt I’d purchase because of the scent (I don’t dig fragrances in my skincare), the price, and the packaging (I don’t like jars…). I’m adding an eye serum during the day because my skin gets quite dry.
Also, more lip balm, more hand cream, more cuticle oil and cream.
I don’t do dark lips or anything, and my makeup doesn’t change much by season, although now that I’m not sweating so much, I’m wanting to amp up my eye makeup!
Laure says
I can’t say I’m making a lot of changes, though I am becoming more comfortable with wearing ‘darker’ make-up (meaning I’m more willing to stray into the dark brown eyeshadow region :S). But the main reason I’m excited is that HAT SEASON is approaching! I adore wearing hats so I’m in heaven.

I’ve made a lot of changes so far! I dyed my hair dark brown with some caramel/blonde ombre in it and cut it to my shoulders (it was originally half way down my back and light brown/blonde). It was hard to adjust at first but know I’m loving it! I bought a fall lipstick, a vampy berry shade from MAC called Luxe Life to spice it up. Also rocking a lot of black cat eyeliner to go with my new look! I am wearing more heavier scents too like Lancome Hypnose instead of my summer fave MAC Turquatic.
