The Marina Green is one of my favorite parts of San Francisco, because over a short walking distance, you get expansive views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Tiburon, Sausalito, the Bay, Angel Island and Alcatraz, all right there across the way.
It’s a gorgeous place to walk, bike or jog, but not just for the views along the water. The huge houses on the other side of the street look like mini mansions!
They have — and this might sound kinda strange to say — AMAZING windows. I’m not an architecture buff by any means, but I love looking at window shapes for some reason… And there are lots of them to look at!
On the weekends it’s kinda hard to park in that area, though. That’s one thing. There’s a huge parking lot next to the big green lawn, but unless you have enough patience to circle for 20 minutes, it’s not the easiest place to find a spot.
I’ve had pretty OK luck finding parking in the residential cross-streets, and then just walking back to the Marina Green, but you never can tell in San Francisco… Parking is always an adventure.
If you go, bring an extra layer or two (like a sweatshirt and a light jacket), because it can get windy and cold by the water.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Gorgeous! I’ve only spent one night in San Fransisco (when I was really young, we took the plane there and then the next morning drove up to Klamath Falls, OR) so we didn’t get to see anything but I really want to go. This looks like a gorgeous neighborhood to walk around!

I remember taking a walk on the Marina Green when Bruce & I took a trip 17 years ago. We spent 4 days in San Francisco and 7 days in both Sonoma & Napa Valleys. What an amazing trip. Nine months later, Zack was born! Ah yes, I remember it well!

I was just there last week, Karen! Such a beautiful area! (And we lucked out and saw some blue skies to boot!)

I have never been to SF (or to the US in general), but as soon as the kids are a little older I would love to go and see all the beauty myself.

What a beautiful spot. I’ll add it to my list of things to see and do if I ever make it out to SF. 🙂

You should come back! Fall is the best season to visit.

Wow, love the architecture! And it looks so sunny!

The houses all along that street are beautiful. There’s a lot to look at, and when you get to the end (just before you hop on the bridge), there’s the Palace of Fine Arts, which is GORGEOUS.

So many fond memories of this part of SF, both before and after my Dear Daughter was born. Before I knew it, she’s all grown up and taking improv classes somewhere in Fort Mason. I still love the view of the GG Bridge from Marina Green.
Karen says
Aww, that’s so cool! 🙂 Was your daughter into drama?
Tatiana says
She always tried out for the plays but either didn’t get a part or just a bit part. She and some friends wrote and put on a musical when she was at university. She said she did the improv class because she wanted to do something where she’d meet people, other than the ones she works with.

Gorgeous. I would love to visit. Also loving that mini mansion on the right.

I hope you do someday! The entire street is lined with beautiful houses, and they have amazing views of the bridge and bay! Only thing is the street is so busy with traffic and seemingly all hours of the day.

Joe DiMaggio lived about a block from the Marina Green. There was a story that after the Loma Prieta Joe was seen walking down the street with a giant garbage full of money. Apparently he didn’t like banks. Every time we drive by my husband tells me that story.
