An awesome and affordable $40 $30 (!) raincoat
OK, so I mentioned wanting a new raincoat, right? I wanted on that was affordable. Well…I bought one!
Turns out that the Target down the street had this olive-colored one by A New Day on sale for $30! So I tried it on, and…now it’s my new raincoat. 🙂
Even for $39.99, it’s pretty boss. It’s a thinner coat, so I don’t expect to go traipsing around the Alps in it, but it’s lined and cozy. It should be enough for the 60s and 50s, and maybe the 40s if you’re made of stronger stuff than I am. If it dips much lower than that, though, you’ll probably need a warm and toasty layer underneath.
The sleeves are long enough to cover my wrists (THANK GOD), but they aren’t too long, and I like the length (long but not too long) and how the waist hits exactly where it should. I also love the olive color and that the hood completely covers my head.
Olive works as a neutral, so I think it’ll go with just about anything.
I do have to say that the shoulders are kinda tight…so if you’ve got a swimmer or water polo player’s shoulders, first of all, I’m jealous! Second, try the coat on first to make sure it fits.
Also, check the zipper, because the zipper on my coat was a little stiff the first few times I zipped it up and down.
Overall, I think it’s a great, affordable water-resistant coat for light showers and chilly, but not freezing, temps.
“Through rain or shine, trendsetting fashion is just a zip away with this Anorak Jacket from A New Day. You’ll long for chilly drizzles every day if it means you get to wear this stylish piece. With two front flap pockets, a tapered waist and snap closures over the zipper, you’ll be putting the finishing touch on any outfit with this coat.” –target.com

Are you a raincoat or an umbrella person? I’m mostly a raincoat person because I like to keep my hands free to do stuff…

Ooh, I’ve actually been eyeing this! It’s nice to see someone real actually wearing it. I’ll probably pick it up this weekend then! Good raincoats seem weirdly hard to come by, at least at a reasonable price.
Karen says
Hi Katie,
Awesome, I hope you love it. What color are you thinking of getting?
Katie says
I’m loving the olive, but the cool gray looks really nice as well! Plus I have the Target RedCard, so 5% off plus free shipping sweetens the deal.
Karen says
Oh nice! I just picked up the mail and there was a Target holiday catalogue with a $10 gift card on the back. Look out for that in the mail!
Lexi says
I’m going to have to check this out next time I’m there. I just noticed not noticed the cute styles from that clothing line and “Who What Wear” – ugh, I’m always late to the party!
Karen says
Hi Lexi,
The Target in my town gets picked over pretty quickly so I hope you can find your size. Have you seen the Cat & Jack line for kids? So many cute styles for girls and toddlers.
Lexi says
Yes – I buy Cat & Jack for my girls all the time. I love the leggings – great quality for the price!
Karen says
Yes! Plus they grow out of their clothes so fast… It doesn’t make sense to me to spend lots of $$$ on things I’ll be replacing in a hot second anyway.
Lexi says
Ugh don’t get me started on shoes….
Karen says
SERIOUSLY. I’m buying new ones every three months, it seems!
Sissi says
Karen! How adorable are you?!? And I’m loving the rain coat too! Perfect for the weather right now. Still in the 60s here in Atlanta and sunny! I expected (by now) worse temperatures! I can deal with this lol!
Karen says
Hi Sissi,
Thanks, girl! This coat would be perfect for 60-degree temps. 🙂
Astrid says
Totally distracted but I love your boots!!! The jacket is super nice as well, I wish I could still wear something like that here but it’s now closer to 0 C / 32 F here.
Karen says
I can’t even handle thinking about that level of cold, OMG! How do you even get out of bed in the morning? Seriously, I couldn’t hang.
Astrid says
You know Karen, I have no idea myself!! You get used to it, I guess… more excuses to get those nice warm sweaters and pretty boots :).
Karen says
I’m sure layering is a big part of your wardrobe!

For sticky zippers you can lightly run a paraffin stick along the teeth and that helps the slider move more freely. If you’re not into canning and don’t have paraffin around a spare tea light candle works.
I like both rain jackets and umbrellas. Just for different occasions.
