With the end of the year looming, now is when a lot of us like to reflect. I like to look back at the past year — its obstacles and accomplishments — and forward to the year ahead.
I also think about changes I’ve made to my look this year. My new hair was a big one, and I’m happy I took that plunge (bangs!). I’m not entirely happy with my skin right now, however, and that’s something I want to work on in 2010.
How about you? Are you happy with your look?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I need to lose weight, but I don’t love myself any less because I’m overweight. I just want to be healthy. It’s such a cliche new year’s resolution, but I’m ready to make it happen.

I need a haircut but I can’t trust hairstylists!! Especially all the Korean ladies that my mom takes me to. A “trim” is apparently “6 inches” to them and I’m scared! And my hair is getting to be shapeless and unruly!! I

aaaaaw!!! That’s so sad that the majority said “no”….I always like to think that this is probably as good as I’m going to ever look, so I need to be happy with myself right this very moment!!!!

My skin is acting up once again and my hair is just not behaving. I am doing research right now on what to try and if all else fails I will suck it up and get a facial at the dermatologists office. Lawd knows I can’t afford it but then again – I can’t really afford to go walking around with bad skin and hair. Its sooo expensive being a girl.

Ugh, I just took a perfectly acceptable hairstyle and ruined it yesterday. What a great Chrismtas present. Also, hello, PMS and period-skin. Fun stuff. I’m a raging hottie.
Here’s hoping it all gets straightened out by spring when it’s time to come out from under all the coats, hats, scarves, and gloves!

Well, me “Don’t like list” is long… I don’t like my nose, have to fix it, don’t like the fact that I have eye circles everyday of my life and they are very difficult to hide. Don’t like my eyebrows, because they don’t grow so that I can shape them properly. Other things…not so important, my hair is great, lips are ok, can be better, my skin has never been un-obedient, but all in all, I could use a fake face sometimes :))
Merry Christmas and have fun tomorrow!

I think my skin could be better and my plan for the new year is to drink more water and try to eat a little healthier to see if I can improve it.
I do sometimes wish I looked a little more “pulled together”, but other than that I think I’m pretty happy with my look.

I got face framing layers yesterday and my head feels 5 pounds lighter! It’s the small things that make a difference in my appearance, and I’m so happy with the results. 🙂

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Karen!! I love my hair lately, the color and cut are finally working for me. But it’s winter and my rosacea makes me break out a lot on my chin & cheeks. So it’s 50-50 for me!! I vote other 🙂
Karen says
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too, Rosie!

Hmmm, I’m happier about my body (but I’ve suffered lot in the gym for it), but my face is just gaunt these days… I think I don’t sleep enough, and I need to master the awake makeup as well as the evening smokey eye to work around it. I’ve also resolved to up the sleep and physically feel less stressed by investing in more zen moments.
Love your site and am jealous of you being in Hawaii! Enjoy it a little bit extra for me!

Hi Anita,
Will do. It’s raining like crazy today (my in-laws live on the wet side of the island), but when the sun comes out I’ll be sure to soak in a little for you. 🙂
Merry Christmas!

Mele Kalikimaka Karen!!! 2009 was a hectic Beauty year for me…..I kept my hair long all hear (my last haircut had been 12/23/2008) and I decided to kick off 2010 as the year of ME, by lobbing it all off yesterday (5+ inches…..GONE!) . With my bypass surgery looming in the spring, I felt that I needed to purge my hair as a symbolic move for all the the changes upcoming in 2010! I feel free!!

Mele Kalikimaka, DonnaN!

I cut off about ten inches of hair when I had my gastric bypass six years ago. It was so liberating!

I hear ya on the skin thing – mine has been really annoying lately. Zits keep popping up on my chin and nothing seems to get rid of them! Although I’m pretty sure I know why – I haven’t really been sleeping lately, I’ve been super stressed (school!), and pretty much all I’ve been eating is Christmas cookies. So yeah… that might explain it 😛
I also need to figure out what to do with my hair – I cut off 11 inches last June, and now I’m trying to grow it out again, and it’s at this awkward in between phase where I just don’t know what to do with it!

I said yes and no. It varies on a day-to-day basis, depending on how much I compared myself to others on the previous day, how many glasses of wine I’ve imbibed :), or if I’m having a good hair day. I’d like to reach a point where I can wholeheartedly say YES, I LOVE the way I look, but at the moment I think I’m stuck in that pointless cycle of “If I could just change this one little thing…” *sigh*

Well, I think we all have things we’d like to change about ourselves. In an ideal world, we would all look perfect, right? Sure, I probably need to lose those last five pounds, and lord knows I need someone to dress me everyday since I can’t put together an outfit to save my life. And if I were sitting on millions of dollars, I would totally get a nose job. But overall, I am happier with what I see in the mirror than I’ve ever been in my life. And I think that shows in how I carry myself. And sometimes the way you carry yourself makes all the difference!

I’m content with my look. This year was a year of discovery – that I do not like myself in short hair and that I’m a simple natural makeup kind of girl. I’ve learned to accept who I am and deal with it. I also found your blog this year and girlfriend, you have turned me on to some amazing brands. I have only the best in my makeup bag now and I feel great about it. So I can wear my neutrals proudly! Thank you so much for this amazing blog. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I need to work on getting healthier – losing weight, eating better. I’ve been happy with the recent makeup purchases I have made and using Clairol Natural Instincts to cover my gray hair. However, I feel that no matter how I try to do my makeup or hair, it always seems to fall short of the mark. My goal is to just work on getting healthier, continue experimenting with new makeup looks, and getting my brows shaped by a professional (they grow differently and in different planes of my face)!

While I generally like the way I look (and I clean up nice) – I plan on making some big changes in the new year. I have a broken nose I’ve been wanting to get fixed for ages – I plan on having surgery in the new year. I also have the habit of wearing my hair in a ponytail (every.single.day) and I need to get out of that rut and start wearing is down. I’m feeling good about the new look for the new year!
pinksoysauce says
I’m pretty happy with my look right now, because my skin has cleared up so much this past year. I still get pimples though, so that’s something to work on over the next year. I do need to figure out something with my hair though – it’s getting long. 🙂

I’m pretty happy with my look. My skin has cleared up a lot in the last 2 months. My hair is still much the same thanks to my wonderful stylist/cousin. I’m much better at doing my makeup now versus a year ago. I think the areas I do need to work on is getting to the gym more often to get more exercise and sleeping earlier so I feel less tired. In any case, those are definitely goals for the new year 😀

I am happy with my look and I seem to get happier with it as I grow older each year. However, while the last two years I have not been breaking out that much, for some reason my forehead is breaking out more often than previous years and I haven’t quite figure out why. I have found a new skin care system that will combat it: Clinique Even Skin Tone Corrector Serum and moisturizer.

Got myself some ash blond highlights (over my dark blond hair) and all the dead ends off on Tuesday, and it looks AWESOME. I’m so happy with it!! If looks include my pudgey love handles, then NO, I’m still irritated with my look, but other than that, I feel like I look pretty freakin’ good.

I’m with Katrina – finding this blog has helped me find better products and be more ok with my “look” I picked other because I think I’m on the right track (finally!) but I still think I have room for improvement – my application techniques could be better, I still need more clothes in my new smaller size, etc… But I think I’m on the right track with this new year, and thats all I REALLY care about…
Solé says
This is an interesting question because until I set out to answer it, I hadn’t realized that yes, I am pretty pleased with my look. I do tend to get a little bored with hairstyles and need to make a change almost every year, but I’m changing it gradually this time around. My skin could be better, but it seems to be taking a turn for the better these past couple weeks. I think the only thing I would change right now is that I toned my look down a lot over the years for various office jobs that I’ve had. Now that I’m a full-time student and am allowed to go a little crazy, I haven’t taken advantage of the opportunity. So maybe a wild haircut is on the horizon. Who knows. 😀

I don’t mind the way I look in person but I take horrible photos sometimes… especially if I don’t take them myself (a la the famous “Myspace” angle) and it really frustrates me!
