Among the contenders for makeup problems that have plagued me off and on throughout the years, but for which I currently have viable options — finding a perfect full-coverage under-eye concealer that looks natural, doesn’t call out my fine lines, and doesn’t have a tricky pump or come in a fragile glass bottle; finding a perfect foundation match so that I didn’t have to mix two shades (not even my favorites from MAC, NARS and BECCA have a single perfect match for my skin); or finding a perfect pimple-covering concealer that doesn’t aggravate my acne — this time around I’m going to go with storage.
If I could just find a better way to store my makeup — one that was cute, efficient, kinda different, not too expensive, and didn’t involve a million little screws from Ikea — my biggest (current) makeup problem would be solved.
Being a packrat makeup lover, I feel the need to hoard every coral lipstick and gloss on the planet.
This has been a problem for me.
Right now I use a bunch of clear stacking drawers from the Container Store, and it gets the job done, but I would love a cuter, more functional solution that made me smile instead of cringe when I saw it…maybe like a vintage hutch with tons of drawers and personality.
Answer this: If I could just find a ______, my biggest makeup problem would be solved.

If I could just find a product that would hide pores and make skin look flawless, my biggest makeup problem would be solved.

Oooh, good one! I need that too. I would also need mine to have skin care benefits…

If I could just find an amazing eyelash curler that could actually curl my lashes, my biggest makeup problem would be solved. I can never ever get my lashes to curl. But, if I happen to get them to curl it never ever ever stays! By the way, your blog is so pretty, and its so organized! I love the theme and how well you write. 🙂

Have you tried Shu Uemura’s? They’re the only ones that work for me… x

An exfoliator/toner which takes care of every skin problem I can ever have! A girl can dream right? 😉 Oh and it can be chemical or physical! I wouldn’t even need makeup after that!

A foundation that matched my horrible skin tone & Something that would make the bags under my eyes go away. I’m only 24 I should not have those!!

If I could just find a gold highlighter like ” whisper of gilt” by MAC, my biggest makeup problem would be solved.

Ugh, I’d love to find a super black, super matte liquid liner that doesn’t transfer to my oily, hooded lids by the end of the work day. L’Oreal Lineur Intense has been my best find so far, and doesn’t transfer, but it isn’t as black and isn’t as matte as the liners in my dreams. Everything else I’ve tried has completely failed me.

If I could just find a concealer that would hide my dark spots under foundation without showing through…or if I could find a product that would make the dark spots actually disappear, I’d be all set!

If I could find the perfect concealer I’d be happy too! I own so many concealers that don’t match it’s a shame!
Just brought a new chest of drawers to store my makeup collection in. I have been using makeup bags and a plastic cart with drawers I brought from office depot, it’s wobbly cause I didn’t put it together right . Hope this new system works better.

I’m going to borrow your first one: If I could just find a perfect full-coverage under-eye concealer that looks natural and doesn’t call out my fine lines (I’d settle for the tricky pump or fragile glass bottle), my biggest makeup problem would be solved. Unfortunately I currently have the option of either looking young but tired (no concealer to settle in lines but dark under eye circles) or old and well-rested (circles covered but lines maximized to add about 10 years to my already 36). Sigh. Just got some samples from Sephora, so hopefully I’ll find my holy grail, but it’s been almost 20 years since I started trying to cover these things and hope is dying fast.

True acne solution! I’ve been struggling for 12 years now with it and though I’ve been able to reduce it through major work and the right products I still have quite a bit of a problem and it’s so disheartening. So yes, I’d have to say that- everything else I can figure out I think.
Sandie says
If I could find a foundation that was full coverage, but didn’t make me look too made up, all of my makeup problems would be solved.
I’m not kidding. I cannot find a foundation that makes my skin look flawless. I always look too made up or too cakey. It’s annoying.
Libby says
If I could find a mascara that would hold the curl from my eyelash curler, no matter how humid the weather is, volumize, and lengthen my lashes, I’d be set for life!

A natural-looking, full-coverage, texture-perfecting foundation. Even the foundations that cover all my acne scars and discoloration can’t mask the raised bumps from current blemishes (I mean, no foundation can do that- it’s not THAT 3D of a product, but I wish it was!). Obviously the need to cover acne bumps stems from skincare, but while my skin is freshly broken out and being treated to clear up, it would be nice to have that perfect foundation for bad breakout days (or weeks) without it being blatantly obvious that I’ve caked on a moussey matte makeup all over my chin.
Fieran says
Hi Rachael,
I have had some pretty bad acne before. One thing that works to reduce the inflammation and tat appearance of caked up foundation is an oil-based serum like REN’s Omega 3 Optimum Skin Oil. You apply a small amount onto the spot and the flakiness usually dissipates. Bobbi Brown’s Longwear Even-Finish Foundation and NARS Sheer Glow usually work quite well to camouflage the blemish. Another thing you could try is an acid toner to slowly heal the raised bumps. Try looking up Caroline Hirons as she has great skincare tips that will definitely help to heal your skin. Good luck!

I’d love to be able to use a non waterproof mascara that will keep the curl, have loads of volume, sky high length and not smudge and irritate my sensitive eyes. That’s not too much to ask now is it? *sigh*
Inessie says
So many, but right now, an eye product that does not run or smudge on my waterline…

A concealer that actually concealed my dark circles while also not containing anything I was allergic to….

If I could just find an affordable yet perfect undereye concealer for my seriously intense dark circles… one that would not cake, that would not make the delicate skin look like crepe, one that would not dry out my skin nor sting my eyes… Yes, that’s the holy grail right there!
Eileen says
Here’s a new one: I need a combination concealer & blush, or foundation & blush. I need a lot of coverage on my cheeks for scars and spots, and I’m an artist with foundation/concealer, but when I put blush on top of it, I feel like the spots show through. I’ve tried pink-based foundation but it’s not enough color.
Another thing that needs to be invented is fake eyelashes that don’t require glue but rather have a peel-off adhesive on the lashes themselves. And of course, they’d have to stay on.
Something that MAY exist but I haven’t found (and I’ve tried dozens) is a mascara that really curls, makes my lashes look naturally thicker with absolutely no clumps or fibers, doesn’t irritate my contact-lensed eyes and doesn’t end up under my eyes when I’ve stayed up all night.
Fieran says
Ahhh so true. Adding blush on top of already concealed skin is tricky. I have that same problem as most of my acne is around my cheek area. One thing that I’ve tried is to use MAC’s Pure Orange corrector (Pro) after applying foundation, before concealer. This helps to reduce the ‘darkness’ of my scars. Then when I pat the blush on top (after setting the foundation + corrector + concealer with powder) it is a bit less obvious.
Estefania says
If I could just find a pigmented, smooth, and LONG LASTING gel liner that didn’t end up all over my tear ducts and outer corners, then all my makeup problems would be solved.

I am currently on the ETERNAL hunt for the perfect RED lip….one that doesn’t turn too blue or orange once I put it on. I think I have about a dozen red lipsticks that just aren’t the *PERFECT* red—it’s very frustrating!

If I could just find new skin that had decent pores and no bags! Or better yet a new face!!! Just kidding. My problem is storage. My 2 year old daughter finds a WA to my make up no matter what! And of course the concealer for eyes issue.

A tinted moisturizer that is suited for a tropical climate and doesn’t sweat off but isn’t a problem to remove, offers great UVA/UVB protection and is totally non-comedogenic, can be worn to take flash photography, is hydrating but non-greasy, matches my skin tone, and possibly helps perfect my complexion over time (although I can settle for just not making it worse)… yeah.

A foundation that matched my very fair skin perfectly, kept the oil away all day, and didn’t feel like I was wearing anything. Bonus: If it’s not outrageously expensive. Super-bonus: If it’s affordably priced.

If I could just find a good waterproof undereye concealer that doesn’t disappear wish my tears, my biggest makeup problem would be solved. I have very watery eyes.
Although, I probably wouldn’t find it in my chaotic makeup collection. So… a better storage system would be my most important finding.

If I could just find a mascara that curled my lashes, my biggest makeup problem would be solved.
My lashes are super long but stick straight. L’Oreal used to make a mascara called Le Grand Curl. I bemoan its disappearance from drugstores every day. That stuff made my eyes look fabulous!!

If I could just find an eyeliner for tightlining that didn’t transfer onto my contacts my biggest makeup problem would be solved. Foggy, smudged contacts aren’t cute!

If I could just find a primer and foundation for my super oily skin then my makeup problems would be solved. It’s really hard to pull of a dark lip or work so hard on a new eyeshadow combo, when all people see is your face makeup melting off…the most frustrating part is that I have tried everything drugstore and most mid priced high end foundations and primers 🙁 but I am still addicted to makeup lol
