Thought you might like to see a few more pics from my trip to the San Francisco Academy of Sciences yesterday, aka “the only place on the planet with an aquarium, a planetarium, a natural history museum, and a 4-story rainforest all under one roof.” 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Do you have a natural history museum in your town? They’re great sources of inspiration, aren’t they?
Alexxx says
OMG those paper clips are soooo cute !! Wantz !!! Can you buy those online or there ?
Karen says
I asked the bartender at the Moss Room Restaurant the same question. Unfortunately they don’t sell them there. 🙁 He said they buy them for the restaurant from a Japanese website and I can’t remember the name.
Barbara says
Oh we were just there lasy week Friday, we love it! Beautiful pics! 🙂

Hi Barbara,
What exhibit was your fave? I really enjoyed the Planetarium and the biome!

what an awesome way to spend a birthday! 🙂 the hubs and i like going to our museums too — and most, if not all of them are free entrance on Thursdays! 🙂
i like the museum of natural science but have a soft spot for the fine arts museum! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Oh, me too. Especially when they have cool exhibits! A couple of years ago the De Young did an Yves Saint Laurent exhibit and it was amazing:

That is so awesome! If I visit SF I’ll be sure to make time for this one. We don’t have a natural history museum here though boo! 🙁
Karen says
Hi Paris,
Be sure to make room in your schedule for the CAS if you ever make it out here! 🙂
Myr says

Lucia says
great post!!!!
I work at a museum of natural history here in Michigan! And I worked at the Field Museum in Chicago, briefly at the American Museum in NY, at the Smithsonian museum of natural history in Washington, at UC Berkeley and for a month at the one in London!…and for many years at the museum of natural history in Lima, PERU. Aren’t they great?????!!!!!!!!!
What is a bit sad though is the fact that people don’t know of all the research that is done behind the scenes, and that what you see in the exhibit is ONLY a tiny part of what the museums have.
Museums are extremely important, they are libraries of diversity and they hold records of already extinct species (e.g. dodo or moas), and if we continue being reckless with the environment, future generations will know species only from museum’s records ;(…this is happening already…believe me it is sadly true.
I need to visit this one…
Karen says
Glad you enjoyed this post, Lucia. And that you for your insider’s view! I learned a lot while I was at the CAS and thought it was very enlightening. I hope you get to visit soon!

I was fortunate enough to take the VIP tour at the California Academy of Sciences two weeks ago. We are so fortunate to have this gem in our backyard! Btw- the seahorses ROCK!!
Karen says
Hi Outlaw,
How cool! I didn’t know there was a VIP tour. Do you have to pay extra to take it?

Oooh, great photos! As a science nerd (was a physics major in college) and a museum fan, I highly appreciated them. 😀
DC has a pretty good natural history museum. I went last year to catch up on it, and it was a lot of fun! I should go back again…
irini says
karen those are some awesome photos!if you dont mind me asking you what camera do you use?
Kim says
These pics are awesome! 🙂 No, sadly our nature viewing is confined to walking in the woods or sticking our heads in the lake! We did bring the kids to the New England Aquarium in Boston this summer, though. It’s a neat place and they have the 3 story tank as well. And penguins, which are so cute but so stinky. 🙂
Dea says
I saw a documentation about building this museum on TV! Simply stunning! I was in Barcelona this summer and there is a museum called “Cosmo Caixa” which also has a rainforest – but a smaller one. I love museums – tons of knowledge and precious things under one small roof (in relation)! Fascinating!
