Hi Brittany,
Good luck getting your cat home. We tried to take Tabs to a vet 10 minutes away and he did not do well in the car. 🙁 Do you have any recommendations on how I can make it a bit easier for him?
I hope your grandfather gets to feeling better.
Karen says
Hi Elena,
MAC Brushes are fab… if you’re going to take the plunge I suggest springing for the brushes with the long handles, not the ones the sell in sets during the holiday season. The sets are a’ight, but I’ve noticed the regular brushes perform much better.
Lucky you that you have relatives in Paris! I am jealous. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Tekoa,
LOL, I gotta tell you a funny story. Last weekened I was with El Hub in the kitty aisle at Target. We were looking for some toys and an over-the-doorknob scratcher thingy for Tabs, and we couldn’t decide between two brands. This lady who was there with us turned to us, pointed at one of the scratchers, and said, “I have 29 cats, and they all like THAT ONE.” El Hub and I were like, um, SOLD!
Karen says
Hi Lehea,
Congrats on your getting your nursing degree! I had a friend a few years ago and her sister was a nurse here in the bay area. Her sister used some sort of nursing employment service that placed nurses all over the US, and landed a gig on Oahu. I dunno if you’ve considered that option, but maybe using a similar service could help get you where you want quicker. It’s hard searching for a job, so I feel ya pain. Your degree is *soooo* marketable though. You’ll get a gig in no time!
Karen says
Hi Iheartmakeup,
If you owned a MAC store I would totally shop there. 🙂

This is going to sound horrible, but my cat does pretty well if you put him in something like a clothes basket and a toss a blanket in there and then cover him up. He can hide and he’s contained in a small space, so he’s pretty happy.
I don’t know what kind of car you drive, but I have an SUV and I also lay down the seats in the back so that if he escapes from the clothes basket it’s not a big deal and he can roam around and sit by the window and look at other cars.
My cat is obviously way too spoiled. 😛
Karen says
Hi EtherealPrey,
Gotta learn how to swim before you take the cruise, girl! 😉
Karen says
Hi Brittany,
Aww, your cat is such a good boy! I wish I could put Tabs in a basket. Unfortunately he’d probably try to escape (he’s a Houdini cat). We ended up putting him in a tall box last week and we had to seal it shut with tape in order to get him to the vet. It was quite an adventure. He ended up putting some holes into El Hub’s favorite t-shirt.

Awww, Karen, I know just how you feel about Tabs. My mother’s kitty (she’s only a year old!) broke her leg playing on the fence earlier this year, and it hasn’t healed very well so she’s still walking with a limp. My mother has had to make the hard decision to keep her as an “inside kitty” from now on, even though little Jemima really misses playing outside, but Mother thinks it’s safest for her to stick to clambering over the couch instead of along a six-foot, inch-wide fence from now on, with her bad leg and everything. Stil, it’s hard, because we feel so bad for the poor wee mite, who still sits inside looking out the window with these big sad eyes, longing for the time she used to have out there.
I wish Tabs and Jemima could go on a playdate! Maybe then we wouldn’t keep so bad for keeping them hidden away from the world. 🙂

Ahhh! LOVE this! And 9 is my lucky number…coincidence? I think not.
1) Go upstairs – RIGHT after I am done with this and clean/organize my room. Why else did I drag myself to Target this morning for all of those plastic containers?! Ugh.
2) Meet the love of my life. *Sigh*
3) Find that perfect shade of golden-y/wheat-y/ash-y blonde with subtle sunlit streaks on the tips…or just a 4-year-old with naturally highlighted hair frolicking down at the beach, bring him into my hair guy, and demand the same look. Anyone have a kid I can borrow? 🙂
4) Make all A’s for my upcoming senior year of college. Where has all the time gone?
5) Make more friends this year!
6) Laugh whenever and wherever possible.
7) Love more.
8) Travel to Greece with my entire family…for a month.
9) Make this year a year to remember.
Absolutely loved this, Karen. I see that much of this is actually in my control…thanks!

Karen,
I have 3 cats and I find that this works for me: place kitty in a sturdy cat carrier (everyone should have one because they are a neccessary for emergencies i.e. natural disasters), place carriered kitty in the car, wrap/drape kitty’s favorite blanket over the carrier(so they can only see you from the front of the carrier and nothing else) and drive like your grandmother is sitting in the seat next to you. I have transported them to and from my in-laws place – 3.5 hrs away – and have had very little trouble during our trips. Good luck!
Yes, I have watched the Dog Whisperer. I love Cesar! But, his show was not on when I had my 2 problem strays (read: headstrong) for 14 years. They recently died, and now I am aching for more doggy kids.

Ok, girl… let’s see if I can help a bit with #1 and therefore #4.
When you’re holding your #224, keep your hand at the far end of the brush handly and not close to the brush tip. This technique will help you ease-off the pressure and allow for lighter work and more blending oomph. The brush should only be touching the eye lightly, just the tapered tip and not the whole brush head. That will help not create too much muddiness or streaking.
Also, the 224 is not just for windshield wiping! To really get the best use of it, try moving it in tiny circles where two colors meet (like on the border). This motion will gently blend the colors without creating mud.
Lastly, to really rock the grey eye (or any smoky eye) sometimes you need “a bridge color” like Saddle to safely transition from smoke to skin. Hope this helps, even just a little!?
And when it gets down to it, I wish I could:
– Speak Spanish
– become a runner without hurting too much
– write a kid’s book
– find out what happened to all of those CDs that went missing at work
-get pregnant!
