Morning! Rise and shine, pal o’ mine. 🙂 It’s caturday! A day to celebrate the glorious awesomeness that is (are?) cats.
OK, not officially, but ya know, if you’re into cats…
What’s shakin’? See any good TV shows or movies this week? El Hub and I went to see The Theory of Everything a few days ago and really liked it. I saw yesterday that the main guy and girl got Oscar nominations. Yeah, they deserved ’em.
Boy, so video… I tried to make one this week, a tutorial, and I did some things differently than I have in the past. Anyway, it kind of spiraled out of control, which is why I disappeared for a couple days. I was trying to edit the thing down, but I underestimated how long it would take.
I had to table it for now, but I learned a few things, so hopefully it goes smoother next time. The lesson here is that editing video can take a looong time.
In other news, it’s very wintry here this morning, but I don’t mean stormy. Just gray and cold and blah… I haven’t figured out what’s on my agenda for today, but for now, I don’t really feel like seizing the day. I feel more like asking El Hub to get me Starbucks and having breakfast in bed, lol. 🙂
I don’t know… Maybe a trip to the mall will liven things up. I haven’t been to Nordies in a while.
Whatever you’re up to, I hope you have a wonderful day, and good luck in the giveaway. (Your nephew says, “mrow,” btw.)

A high end beauty product that I think is worth the price would have to be Lancome Definicils mascara and Nars eyeshadow primer. I’m also a huge Beauty Blender fan, though I don’t think of that as high end. I tried other cheap sponges before I finally broke down and bought a Beauty Blender. I had a hard time with the idea I’d be spending $20 and throwing it away in 6 months or so. But it’s TOTALLY worth the hype.
Hubby and I are going to Ikea today. I might ask him to stop in Novato on the way since I got a Loft gift card for Christmas and when I peeled the sticker off the back to get the PIN, the numbers came off with the sticker. So I have to go into the store to get a new gift card.
Aviva says
I would definitely take the money and quit my job!
Rachel A. says
Hmmm high end brands, I’m starting to believe my clarisonic mia was worth the money as my skin is beginning to look clearer and clearer every day! Oh and Estee Lauder doubel wear light is amazing for oily skin gals!
Thanks so much for the giveayay 🙂
Remi says
I have been watching Agent Carter and Galavant. (Galavant is pretty hilarious. And Tim Omundson makes me swoon. That hair.)
Rose Puthumana says
I think the tom ford lipsticks are definitely worth the splurge!
Abby says
I think Jordana, the makeup brand, is really underrated. Every product I have ever purchased from the line I absolutely love! You can get it from Walgreens, but they should be put in Sephora and Ulta because the products are AMAZING. My favorite from Jordana is their eyeshadow in ‘Auburn’. You really don’t have to pay that much to get high quality like some people think. I love how affordable the brand is. Y’all should check it out 🙂
Ally says
I had a FABULOUS perm in 1989.
Michaela says
i would keep the $100! what if the phone number was from a person who previously spent it?
Melissa says
I was forced into a perm in second grade. Horrible decision.
Lauren Bourke says
I just love your blog, and it always gives me new makeup crushes to try out and fall in love with!
Laura says
Yes, I had a perm back in the early 90s.
Agata says
If I found a $100 bill with that number I would probably just keep it, and not call the number!
Maria J. says
I have found money on the ground and most times I keep it, but if it had a owners contact number I feel I would do the right thing and give it to them.
Petra V. says
I’ve never gotten a perm. I’m aiming to make loose big curls-waves at home (since I don’t trust hair salons, lol), but they only last for a few hours… I also like the “ombre” hairstyle and I am hoping to get some purple shades soon.
Berry says
I would take the $10,000 and quit my job without any second thoughts.
Sam Esswood says
I’ve always wanted to get a perm! Korean style loose waves, but always too indecisive to get one!
margarita says
I love Chanel makeup! Brightens my day 🙂
Natacha says
I don’t know if it’s considered high end, but the Helena Rubinstein Lash Queen Sexy Blacks mascara costs 30€ and it’s totally worth the price, best mascara I’ve tried so far.
Betty says
Benefit’s Boi-ing concealer is definitely worth the money! I had previously gone through two and decided to try the Tarte one, which is good, but I’m definitely going back to Boi-ing once I’ve used it up.
Ellen says
I’d call the number for the $100
Dee says
No that I finally have a job I love, I wouldn’t be able to quit it for $10,000. Now…. Maybe for $1,000,000.
Icequeen81 says
Ummm I wont quit my job, I guess as a teacher they depend on me. so it would be bad much more for the senior class.
I have never tried a high end product to be honest so I wont know.
maybe urban decay, or 100 pure? or tarte. those are cruelty free and high end.
Dawn says
No I have never gotten a perm. Don’t think I would like it
LindaLibraLoca says
I got a perm when I turned 18. Took all my birthday money and went to the hairdresser, asking for luscious locks, despite my mother and aunt telling me it would never work out.
They were right. I walked out crying, and the worst was that my hair was not only looking like major frizz, but was so dry it would break whenever I touched it. About six months later I was left with waves that I really liked, but never again would I do something like this again!
Kim says
Considering my job is a stay home mom to a wild but precious red headed beauty, I’d laugh in his face because ten grand isn’t close to enough to compensate for all the wonderful work that goes into all I do 24/7 🙂 but as for makeup I sure crave anything lipstick – not even one brand – just beautiful lovely lipstick whether that perfecr color from Mac or that lovely Dolce Gabanna formula or even that rare perfect drugstore formula plus color that is as good as a high end brand. The more lipsticks I can add to my massive collection the better! Love all the fun ideas you come up with Karen for the questions! Great posts, great fun always found on your blog!
Suzanne says
I’m a complete makeup novice, but I just went to Sephora yesterday and a lovely woman helped me pick out a bunch of great stuff. I’m looking forward to playing around with it!
Regina M. says
I’ve had two or three perms….two I think or maybe three well who knows haha I was 13 with the first one and I kind of loved it and I don’t remember how old I was the other time (times?) I liked having hair that wasn’t just straight but it was too tightly curled for my tastes and I never got the hang of not brushing my hair which made the perm useless!! I decided that I could curl my hair myself if I really wanted it curly though I am spectacularly lazy when it comes to my hair so that never actually happens!
Janet Shepherd says
I work part time as a receptionist in a small physiotherapy clinic & there’s no way I’d quit for 10 grand! My boss actually said to me yesterday that he’d do his job for nothing – we really get to help people, and it’s an awesome place to work.
Jenn P says
$10,000 would not be enough to get me to quit my job! $10K would not go very far in todays economy!
Cynthia says
I wouldn’t take the money!
dawn says
IMO, high end foundation are usually worth the price tags.
Jen says
I have never gotten a perm and I probably never will. Being an 80’s kid has left me traumatized when it comes to perms.
Swati says
Just $10,000? Nope!
Valerie says
Chanel makeup is totally worth the price!!
Cori Westphal says
I grew up in the 80s. Yes! I had a perm for probably 8 years! Ish!

nailah says
Illamasqua is definitely 100% worth the mone . My stage makeup is always illamasqua and the products are so pigmented that they last forever!
BeautyMVP says
If I won I’d use the gift card to get the Marsala Pantone eyeshadow palette. *crossing my fingers* : )
Suzanne G says
The most incredible tatoo I ever saw was a beautiful set of red lips on the back of a woman’s neck. I was at a funeral and she was sitting in front of me and I was fascinated by it. I really do not personally care for tatoos but this one was amazing and so well done.
Lisa Brown says
i would not take the $10,000
Sam B says
If I found the money I would definitely call the number – would be too intrigued not to!
BrooklynShoeBabe says
I want to see The Theory of Everything as well. I saw The Imitation Game yesterday. It was good.
gabis says
The job question cracked me up. What a cheapskate of a billionaire that one is, lol. The guy is a BILLIONAIRE and only offers $10,000? Hahahaha and by the way no, I wouldn’t quit my job for a mere $10,000 even though in Brazil the amount would be even higher due to exchange rate.
Jessie C. says
I’ll leave the bill on the sidewalk.
Sandy says
I did get a perm in the ’80’s….big mistake. My hair was pretty straight and lifeless back then so I tried a perm for body but my hair curled right up and it was super curly. I cried all the way home.
Sneha says
I did find a 100 bucks on the road once. Years ago. It was always my emergency cash stash and one day when my friend who was going through some rough times needed money, well lets just say. It was a 100 well spent bucks. ☺
Colleen Boudreau says
I’ve never gotten a perm and don’t ever plan to.
Rachel H says
Coolest tatto I’ve seen is mine! Hehe. I’ve got an earth tattooed on my wrist and I love it.
Dana Siler says
I love Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I have used it for a few years and love the coverage! It also does not crease your shadow. The long wearability of shadows is unmatched by any other primer!
Marisa says
I would call on the $100, out of curiosity if nothing else 🙂
Ashleigh says
Most incredible tattoo you’ve ever seen in real life?
Two come to mind- my friend has a really big tree of life on her back that is gorgeous, the tree is really gnarly and branchy, it looks hauntingly beautiful.
The second one I don’t even know what they’re of- but there is a guy who always goes to the gym at the same time as me who hangs out in the sauna too who has amazing chest tattoos. I try not to stare, I mean, I don’t want to seem like I’m checking him out, but his torso tattoos are really well done. ^_^
Jessica says
I definitely think Guerlain and Hourglass makeup are worth the cost, as well as Chanel (mainly blush/face powders) and YSL (mascara and lip products). I tend to gravitate towards high end makeup though. The packaging is so killer.
Kristin Goodson says
I love makeup and Sephora is one of my faves! I would love to have a little shopping spree in that store. 🙂
Jackie Cummings says
I think I’d like to start making my own videos 🙂
Laurinha says
Hi Karen!
Re the $100,00 bill I will go to the police, show the bill to them and then call the number…… who knows? Does this bill is part of robbery? Does it belong to someone who intend to find an honest person? or…..or……or………or
Coline T. says
Last week in the hospital I saw an old man (biker genre) with a tatoo “enjoy yourself” just above the genitals. OMG it was hilarious!!
Michelle says
I think that Perricone MD at Sephora is totally worth the price. I like their Pore Minimizer toner $55!
Rahne says
“An eccentric, anonymous billionaire offers to give you $10,000 if you’ll quit your job today. Do you do it?”
No way, I make more than that in a year, and I can barely support my mother and I. If he’s a billionaire, maybe he should offer me a million… then maybe I’d consider it. 😛
Nicole S says
Wouldn’t quit my job for the $10,000, would leave the $100 bill on the sidewalk out of pure suspiciousness, and I am a cheapskate so the most expensive brand I buy from is Urban Decay, heh. X)
Abby says
My favorite department high end product that I think it’s worth the price is Hourglass! I love their makeup!! Makes me feel luxurious and pretty and their products is just amazing!!
Chelsea says
If I found the dollar bill I would definitely call the number. I would only meet them in public (I’ve seen enough episodes of Criminal Minds to give it back to them at a sketch address).
Leigh Anne Borders says
You find a $100 bill on the sidewalk this afternoon with a note on it that says, “If found, please call 555-364-1212.” What do you do?
Well, I am not sure. I am thinking I would spend it because who knows how long that has been on there?
Amy says
I would so quit my job and take the money.
susan says
I had a perm once and that was it for me . . . never again!

Susan T. says
When I was a kid my mom always cut my hair short and a few times she permed it. I looked like little orphan Annie!
Nicole Dziedzic says

lori clark says
If offered 10,000 I would take as currently I have no job but I am looking and could use the $$ !!
Andrea Darst says
If I find a $100 bill on the sidewalk without seeing the person drop it, I am keeping it.
amy pugmire says
With the makeup thing. All the time ha ha. I must be putting it on in some bad lighting.
Nancy Loring says
The first perm I ever had was when I was 13 and my best friend who was 14 gave me one. It didn’t come out half bad although the other half came out looking like a big frizz ball. That turned me off of getting a perm for a few years but when you have straight hair and you see your friends with perms that look great, that’s what you want. So this time I went to a professional and when she was done it looked great but I could never get it to look like that so no more perms for me.
Lizzie says
I have never gotten a perm and probably never will
Amanda says
I’m such a make-up addict but my finances dont allow for high end brands. To be able to stay with current trends I can only afford to buy budget brands.
Lynn says
Heck no! if someone gave me a 10,000 i would not take it if i had to quit my job. 10,000 is not going to last long at all especially if you have rent/mortgage to pay. I hate the feeling of scrabbling to find a job, waiting for an answer, then going to interviews. I rather have a steady income
Sarah W says
I guess if the phone # was on the bill, I’d feel like I had to call…
Heather (Rafflecopter Rosie Areola) says
I bust out laughing….YEP, I’ve had a perm lol. The style/trend was called “beans on toast” in England; short back and side & permed on the top. (God help me lololol).
Camille says
hello! i’m glad you’re trying to make videos, but i understand it’s a lot of work. *sigh* keep at it!
hmmm, a high end brand….i haven’t had the chance to splurge on a high high end brand, but i imagine chanel is one worth the price. 🙂
irini says
Yes I’d quit, and get myslef a new job 🙂
shaunie says
Yes, I have had one before.
Jordi says
If I found money with a phone number on it, I’d call but I wouldn’t do it from my cell or home phones. Maybe work, where the extension wouldn’t be visible… just in case!

Natasha says
I totally feel you on your “blah” day today. I’m close to Seattle and it’s been chilly and rainy here for the past couple of months lol. Every dreary day makes me want to just lay in bed with a cup of Starbucks, cozying up to HGTV. 🙂

Tiffanie says
I just bought my daughter an outfit with black and white cats on it. So cute!

Hmm that’s not nearly enough to quit my job, but if it allows me to apply to newer and better jobs, maybe that would work as my inspiration!
Emily C says
I’d quit my job for $10k!
Renee says
I put perms in my hair until 2011. Then I transitioned and eventually did the big chop. I’m a proud naturalista and I love my curls!
Fran says
Quit my job for $10,000? No. I do eldercare for families and my families rely on me. So, OK, it takes me quite a while to earn $10,000 doing it, but, still. I would feel like a jerk.
And I wouldn’t be able to resist calling the number on the note. I’d be too curious not to.
Gina M (Wild Orchid) says

I don’t think I’d give up my job for $10,000. But since I’m currently unemployed, does that mean I’d GET a job plus $10,000? Because that I’d do. 😉
Christine says
I would soooo quit my job for $10k – I’m unhappy with my current job(no work-life balance AT ALL) and $10k will provide me with living cost and I can look for another job! 🙂
Laure says
I don’t know that many people who have tattoos, but I really like the tattoos that look like they were painted or draw/sketched (if you know what I mean?). So the coolest tattoo I’ve seen in real life, is a sketched fox that a classmate has. The fox is mid-jump and looks sooooo cool.
Anne-G. says

$10,000? No way. Add a couple of zeros to that figure, though, and we’re talking.
Tracy Robertson says
I like my job for the most part, so I wouldn’t quit for $10 K. Not that I make a whole lot, but it would have to be 2 years salary for me to do it. Then I could take a nice break and probably get my job back after that.

Amy says
I’ve never gotten a perm before.

Do you ever see yourself in the mirror, notice your makeup and think, “OMG! When did I do that?”
Oh man. There was the time I wore foundation out for the first time. It was hideous. Cake city.

I have the “OMG! When did I do that?” mostly after I get out of a class and realize that I accidentally leaned on my palm and wore off the blush on one side of my face… or that my mascara smeared because my professor bored me to tears!

Kate K says
I’ve never had a perm but after seeing old pics of my mom’s fried 80’s hair I’m glad I never had. I have purple highlights now, though, and the first time required two rounds of bleaching that caused most of my under-hair to break off!

I think the high end product that is most worth the price is dior addict lipsticks (don’t even feel them on my lips!) and foundation. Loving Estee Lauder double wear and Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk atm. I’m also loving the NARS dual intensity eyeshadows in Subra and Himalia.

Sylvia says
I think my first perm was kindergarden I think. I know I was really young and wanted curly hair. I will have to ask my mom. As much as I would love a great excuse to quit my job I don’t think 10K would do it. I’m not a fly by the seat of my pants girl, and not knowing if I have a similar or better job to go to would make me anxious.

Holly says
Oh my word; I had a permullet (perm/mullet) in fifth grade. It looked as if a poodle was nesting on my head. My grandma talked me into it & paid for it as part of my back-to-school process. It was not a good fashion decision, especially on a chubby, nerdy tween.
Monica says
No, I’ve never gotten a perm! I don’t think my hair would react well
MelodyJ says
I would not quit my day job for just $10,000. A job I truly love is worth more than that. Like others have stated $10,000 is not going to go far in today’s world.

I’m quickly finding that Dior is worth the price. I used to think anything more expensive than Clinique and Mac was just silly…. Until I tried Bobbi Brown…. Which was like a gateway to go even more expensive… YSL Glossy Stains brought me into the truly high end world…. Then I started trying Dior…. And every Dior product I have tried, I’ve pretty much loved. Well worth the price!

I’ve never had a perm, I’ve always been too chicken. I have a fair amount of hair and my hairdressers have also been leery of perming it for fear I would have a total fro, which I don’t have the bone structure to carry off. Now I’m at the salon once a month getting blonde highlights touched up and it is Super Dry. A perm would end in a hair funeral.
Good luck on the video end. I think tutorials are exhausting to put together–either photo ones. I did one recipe post where I did everything shot by shot ala Ree of Pioneer Woman and it took Hours!

Yes! I got a perm about 8 years ago and I loved it! I got it at a Korean hair salon and they called it a digital perm. I have no idea why it’s supposedly digital but it turned out great (big, soft, wavy curls). My hair didn’t dry out and didn’t feel damaged at all. I didn’t do it again because it lasted so long that I got tired of it and when I finally had everything cut off (in stages over about a year), I then got my hair rebonded into a stick straight look.
