Since it’s Thursday and all (edit: it’s just random; there’s no logical reason), I’m wondering what’s been making you want to clutch your pearls with delight.
Here are seven things that have been giving me major smiles lately. 🙂
1. Yes to Coconut Ultra Light Spray Body Lotion for Very Dry Skin ($9.99)
Otherwise known as “Lotion for the Laziest of Alligator People.” My skin is so dry that it makes alligator skin look moisturized! But this stuff totally takes care of it (everywhere except on my Fred Flinstone feet, where I need something thicker). It leaves my skin feeling soft, but not greasy, and smelling faintly of coconut.
How moisturizing is it?
Pictures yourself standing in a tropical lagoon under a Hawaiian waterfall…and in this waterfall scenario, you look hot, of course.
Wait — to be honest, that’s hard to do because the water is really pouring down, so hold on to your bikini bottoms! (File this under “Life Lessons Learned the Hard Way.”)
Anyway, tangent.
I keep this stuff in my shower and spray it on my skin after toweling off (while I’m still in the shower). It’s easy to work in, and the bottle conveniently works when you hold it upside-down, which is super cool. I suggest spraying it into your palm first, and then massaging it into your arms and legs. That way you don’t accidentally spray the lotion all over your floors and walls.
2. Yes to Grapefruit Basil Liquid Hand Soap ($3.99)
And since we’re on the subject of saying yes to things, I also love the brand’s Yes To’s Grapefruit Basil Liquid Hand Soap ($3.99). It makes quick work of any dirt/gunk/oils/tabby hairs on my paws and works fast. It’s also non-drying (yay!) and lightly scented with grapefruit, which is one of my favorite things to eat.
Incidentally, sometimes I feel like I’m alone in this, because everyone around me detests the taste of grapefruit… Are you into it? Grapefruit 4-EVA is all I have to say.
3. The bkr 1-L Bottle in Sugar ($42)
This bkr water bottle! I’ve only been using it for a week, but I’m freaking ready to put a ring on it. I carry this thing everywhere!
Granted, it’s a lot heavier than a back-to-basics, standard plastic water bottle, but I don’t mind. I kinda like the solid glass heft. (The thick rubber sleeve should hopefully keep it from cracking if it’s ever dropped from a reasonable height… I’ll you know about that when/if it ever happens.)
The handle on the cap also feels juuuuuust right. I don’t know if the designers conducted any ergonomic studies or anything, but this bottle feels great in my hand.
I also like mouth because it’s not too huge/wide, and with every other water bottle I’ve owned, I end up spilling water all over my shirt all the time.
Doesn’t happen with this. I keep trying to find an excuse to get one of the smaller ones, too (I love the ones with the heart design) but yeah…one is enough for now.
I hope they make the liter-sized ones with a heart on it soon. Call me crazy (go on!), but I swear my water tastes better when I drink it from this bottle.
Yes, I know that’s impossible. 🙂
4. These Flamingo Vans ($55)
I’ve come to accept that I have absolutely no time for boring-@ss shoes. If my toes must be confined, I want them confined in the most interesting way possible, and this pair of mint green and flamingo Vans? HOLY FREAKING CRAP. I love them.
5. Golden Girls Lego
Let’s say that again: “Golden Girls Lego.”
I know, right!? YAAAAAAS! Lego runs a program called Lego Ideas where fans submit ideas for future products, and someone (WHO IS CLEARLY A GENIUS!!!) submitted a set inspired by Rose, Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia.
They even recreated the sets and scenes from the show! Now that’s some hardcore Golden Girls love.
I really hope this actually comes to fruition and goes on sale because I would be the first person in line to grab it. 😀
Which Golden Girl are you, by the way? I’m mostly Sophia, with a bit of Rose sprinkled in.
6. Byredo Parfums Gypsy Water Eau de Parfum ($145 for a 1.7-oz. spray bottle)
I’ve been reaching for Gypsy Water almost every other day since I started wearing it last October.
There must be thousands of sweet fruity floral fragrances on the market, and sometimes I just want something totally different. Gypsy Water is completely different. I haven’t caught any whiffs of it on other people, like how I’ll sometimes catch a whiff of a woman’s perfume as she walks by and be all, “Oh, that’s Angel,” or “Homegirl’s wearing Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue today.” Not once have I walked by a woman and smelled Gypsy Water.
Officially, it starts with notes of bergamot, lemon, pepper, juniper berries; opens into incense, pine needles and orris; then settles into amber, vanilla and sandalwood. Unofficially, I think it smells like adventure, individuality, courage and sunshine!
7. Light colors on lower water lines
Do you ever wear beige liner on your lower lash lines? It’s an old trick to make eyes look bigger that works by sort of making it look like there’s more space around the whites of your eyes.
I don’t think I described that very well, but anyway, it makes your eyes look bigger and more awake.
I know it sounds a little crazy-pants, but it really works! I’ve been doing it a lot lately with light-colored liners. My favorites this week? — MAC’s matte pale beige Technakohl in Risque ($16), MAC’s matte white Eye Kohl in Fascinating and Chanel’s light violet Beryl (which, sadly, has been discontinued).
Now it’s your turn. I’m curious, what are some things you’ve been loving lately?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

“Yaaaas” was my exact reaction when I heard about the Golden Girls Lego 🙂 Great picks, Karen!
Karen says
RIGHT? This really needs to happen. I will be heartbroken if it doesn’t!
Karen says
P.S. They need to recreate Blanche’s bedroom with the crazy jungle wallpaper.
Jen says
Yes, absolutely! That would be amazing 🙂

I’ve been craving chocolate too. Who makes your favorite? I love the milk chocolate at See’s Candies and Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut Bars.
Icequeen81 says
My favorites is made by a Dutch brand called markant, is pure dark chocolate,
another dutch brand called balisto
Then is been fallowed by cardbury picknic and fruit and nuts
and as least butter finger, don’t know the brand.
Karen says
My husband would probably love that Dutch brand! He is all about dark chocolate.
Oh great, now I want chocolate…
Icequeen81 says
dark chocolate is healthy 🙂
I know the feeling was hard to find that dark chocolate
Chelsea says
I’m known to use Chanel Beryl for #7. I look terrible with dark liner on the lower water line.
My current fragrance I’m digging is Dior Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet. Peonies and white musk, so good.
Karen says
Love Beryl. I wish it was perm. Although Santal will always be my true love.
I haven’t smelled that scent yet! Is it very sweet?
Chelsea says
Quite sweet! Not far off from other fragrances I like, such as Chanel Chance Eau Tendre, or the long discontinued Dior Addict Shine, but no citrus.
Karen says
I like Chance Eau Tendre. I’ll give it a sniff when I’m at the counter. 🙂 Thanks, Chelsea!
Erin says
Wojo liquid supplements, Pastures of Eden cheese, Grifone Rosé… which I just finished a case of.
Chris25 says
I also just wrote up a favorites post. We’re on the same wavelength. 🙂
Emily says
yaaaassssss bkr. I’m so tickled you love it.
Karen says
Thank you so much for the recommendation! I looooooove mine to pieces!

My current faves:
1. Green apples for a bedtime snack–a little hard to find good ones as they’re not really in season right now but they fill me up.
2. Rewatching “Angel” because, well, ANGEL!
3. Shea Moisture Frankincense & Myrrh bar soap–smells amazing & is amazingly moisturizing for being a bar soap.
4. These lovely mottled shell beans called Jacob’s Cattle because they have burgundy spots on an ivory background; I used them in lieu of pinto beans in soup & they’re tasty & pretty!
5. Catching up with on of my dearest friends while sitting in the sun at the park.
6. Lavender oil to help me relax at night because I’m a terrible sleeper.
7. A pineapple enzyme mask by Alba which smells fantastic & makes my face look better.
I love that you make these lists! It makes me think about the simple things in my life that I all too often take for granted.
Tulipthecat says
My current favs are:
1) The denim leggings I bought at Walmart. So comfy but yet still stylish
2) The bareminerals complexion rescue. It has a nice luminous look and not so heavy
3) The NYX microbrow pencil
4) Purple eyeliner
5) Egyptian magic cream – very moisturizing and creamy for my super dry hands
I just saw the golden girls lego on a website but I don’t remember where…my friend and I use to go to the Golden Girls christmas show in the city (it’s where drag queens recreate an episode of the golden girls). If you ever have time you should go. It’s great and they even have commercials that they act out.

I ordered a bottle of the Jo Malone Osmanthus Blossom, going purely off the descriptions from people on fragrantica.com (I know, crazy to spend that kind of money without trying it first), and I am SO GLAD that I did. I have been stopped about 4 times in a week and that never happens. It’s a fruity-mostly-floral scent that is just delicious. Also, I ordered the Siahi eyeliner from MAC based on your recommendation, Karen, and I love it!
The 500-ml bkr bottle in Dive has been sitting in my Amazon cart, staring at me, since you wrote about it the other day. Is it weird I’ll spend $120 on perfume I’ve never smelled but I’m debating $30 for a water bottle? It is. You don’t have to tell me. 😉
Kwmechelle says
1. Bikini Bottom makes me think of Sponge Bob SquarePants, of course (insert giggle here)
2. I LOVE grapefruit
3. I’m TOTALLY Dorothy with a hint a Sophia
Of late, I’ve been LOVIN’ MAC Ruby Woo. Yes, I’m the last person on the planet to get it & it’s corresponding lip liner of the same name. And, it’s official, we were made for each other 🙂 And I somehow manage to make it work for my desert dry lips. Been loving Physician’s Formula Argan oil, too. It costs a fraction of the cost of the Josie Maran Argan oil & I love slathering it on mah face. And, last but not least, oil pulling. I use it to augment my oral healthcare. I’m never not oil pulling ever again ☺️

Love those Vans,they look awesome!
Some of my favs this month:
1. Benjabelle brush tree: super convenient if you have a bunch of makeup brushes to wash and dry! (me ME!)
2. Clio pencil eyeliners: I have it in chic navy and dark brown, super smudge proof and creamy! Cheap at where I live (Singapore).
3. Curel sebum care foaming wash: a gentle cleanser that keeps oilies at bay while calming my sensitive skin! Prevents acne too
4. Real Techniques concealer brush: I love it! I’ve REALLY dark circles that require targetted correcting / concealing and this brush is thin enough to reach those dark, dark corners.
5. My new ipad mini. I was previously using a Google Nexus 7 which died on me. Decided to splurge on and ipad and love the quality!
Carolyn says
I love grapefruit! The smell and the taste! And you’re right, hardly anyone else does. My co-worker brought me some from his friend’s tree and I went nuts. Yum-meh! I also wear Fresh’s grapefruit perfume spray which is so clean ( but lasts as long as a fresh grapefruit does in front of me )
So grapefruit love out of the way…I’m really loving…
1. Old Navy Pixie pants….comfy!!
2. Fresh sugar lip scrub
3. Amy’s vegetable pot pies
4. Starbucks unsweetened regular tea with lotsa ice
5. My cheap HP 11″ Stream laptop…in blue!
6. My orange glassybaby I have burning right now
7. The GWP lipstick/lip gloss by Cinique Macy’s has
Sarah says
1. My puma suede black and pink sneakers, super comfy I love them.
2. La Roche Posay skincare, I’m on a real kick at the minute.
3. My new citrus yellow Kipling hiphurray tote bag. I take it everywhere.
4. Dolce & gabanna dolce floral drops perfume… Absolutely gorgeous scent and I’ve been wearing it everyday.
5. Re watching How I Met Your Mother from the start, awesome show.
6. A pair of super comfy cheapo leopard print ballet flats/pumps I got in a shop we have here in the UK called Peacocks.
7. Clinique Cheek Pop blush in Peach Pop, best blush I’ve used in a long time and the colour makes me look so fresh.
I saw a cool shopper bag whilst I was shopping yesterday in a big high street shop here in the UK called Next, they had a flamingo print shopper tote bag next to the checkout and as soon as I saw it I thought of you. It was only £4 and if there was some way of getting it to you I would. If you want me to post it to you I could, so PM me if you wish 🙂 I’d be happy to for a fellow June 9th birthday girl !!!
Kiss & Make-up says
Ghah, those Vans are awesome 🙂 I wish we had Yes To here! I hope I have some time to do some Yes To shopping in the BE in a couple of weeks.

We love our mandoline, too. Ours will do thick and thin julienne as well as thick and thin slices. Just be sure to use that hand guard! Also loving our 12-inch non-stick ceramic skillet (just cooks things really well), our heavy-duty half- and quarter-sheet pans for roasting veggies and baking all kinds of things, and our microplane — wonderful for grating ginger, nutmeg, garlic, adding flavor to dishes. I recommend Mark Bittman’s “How to Cook Everything” for basic cooking instructions and recipes — don’t be intimidated by the size of the book — he’s got some seriously simple recipes in there that taste great. He’s also got a bunch of other cookbooks I want to check out, including “How to Cook Everything: the Basics” with photos of how to do different techniques in the kitchen, and “How to Cook Everything Fast” for especially time-pressed cooks. Another master of simple but great-tasting recipes is Jack Bishop. His “The Complete Italian Vegetarian Cookbook” has provided us with lots of good meals (although I frequently find that I can use half the amount of olive oil that he recommends). Cooking can actually be really fun, even though a few experiments do turn out to be flops. I hope it starts being fun for you 🙂
Also loving my new Easy Spirit AP2s in bright red for spring, and eagerly awaiting my Munro American Zena sandals in khaki/snake print (so cute! so rare to find really cute sandals in size 9.5AAAA! so rare for them to come back in stock after they’ve sold out! so rare to get them at 20% off!)
Really liking my Kevyn Aucoin Contour Book and Clinique Pop lip color + liner in Cherry Pop.
Also really liking my Paige Denim Verdugos, and TJMaxx for having them at 1/2 price — looking to get them in white for summer, too. Not too many jeans fit me well — my hips and thighs are skinny, my waist and calves are thick, and I’m just slightly petite, right on the border between petite and regular sizes, and these fit great.
Carolyn says
I love the sneakers! I bought the black and white Hawaiian print then exchanged the white for the flamingos. They’re so cute and I’ve been wearing both non-stop
Marina (Makeup4all) says
YES, once again, I need that bottle in my life, not pink thought. And you can never have too many pairs of Vans.
Stephanie says
Golden Girls LEGO? Yes please! I’d have to get my mom and me matching sets. 😉
Let’s see, lately I’ve been loving your blog and Phyrra.net, reading on the bus to work, the MacBook Air I’ve been playing with, the TV show Avatar: Legend of Korra, and getting about a million opportunities to go to great shows for free. I’m trying to decide how much I want to see Mahler’s Das Lied der Erde tonight or tomorrow night vs. Woman in Gold. I really want to see Woman in Gold, but I could go to Das Lied der Erde and see the orchestra for free. But also I am getting burnt out! Ack!
Iris says
Your reaction to the flamingo shoes is the same as mine. As a bird lover, I want those. So bad. And I don’t even wear sneakers, preferring boots. I’ll have to see if the local shops have them. Thanks for the heads up!
Karen says
You’re welcome! I saw a pair last night that you might like, too:

I am all over #’s 3 and 4. I just got a pair of slip on Vans with a jungle theme and guess what? The prints on the shoes don’t even match! How cool is that? Along with a co-worker yesterday, we found out that we might have a chance at the Golden Girls Lego set. This one, along with the Simpsons, are my childhood coming to life.
Dollie says
My favourite-est fragrance used to be Ralph Lauren Glamorous. Ever since its been discontinued, I’ve been searching for a similar fragrance but nothing comes close. Do you have any recommendations?
Kim says
The Golden Girls Legos are genius. Full stop. 🙂
Alison says
I think I’m a bit of a Dorothy or Miles, with a bit of Blanche thrown in!
Maggie says
I would love it if you did a favorites post every now and then–a LOT of these made me smile and I love your taste–seems fun!
I think I might have to cave for the BKR bottle or something similar–my current glass water bottle has a silicone cap to seal the water in–but I can smell and taste the silicone–that’s got to be just as bad as plastic.
My current favorites:
1. Cereal Bars from Pure Organic or Larabar! I’m allergic to soy, dairy, apples, bananas and blue berries–all of which are VERY hard to avoid in cereal bar. These brands have flavors that nailed it.
2. My Zojurushi 12 oz Coffee Mug Model SM-KB36-VJ in Lilac. It’s adorable and this model has a wide lip. It’s easy to clean and doesn’t taste like plastic–unlike my old contigo. You can get it at Amazon.
3. Keen Targhee II. The very opposite of glamorous, dainty or fashionable–but I think it’s hilarious that my feet have their own version of tire tread. And it’s SO comfortable. I’m on my feet all day in them. I’ve been wearing my current pair for years but I’ve heard the quality has gone down. Fingers crossed it’s not true!
4. Citrix Sunscreen SPF 40–where has this BEEN my whole life?! It’s a cinch to apply and absorbs quickly, it has zinc oxide, it doesn’t dry out or leave my skin a greasy mess, and makeup is fine on top of it.
Tricia says
Karen, I must know where did you get the shirt you are wearing in the picture!!!
