1. Nobody rocks bold lips to baby story time.
And all I have to say to that is WHY?! There’s a severe lack of bright red lips and hot pink lips on display at baby story time at the library, which bums me out, because moms needs a little fun sometimes (yes, I’m always checking out everyone’s makeup, even at baby story time).
Two weeks ago, one gal wore a medium pink gloss, and I wanted to high-five her!
I’m thinking about going with deep green lips next time, just to keep things interesting.
2. Speaking of lips, Urban Decay Rehab Makeup Prep lip balm is really, REALLY good.
It tastes and smells like coconut, fits in the pocket of my Kate Spade wristlet (which is basically a massive wallet with a strap), is hella moisturizing, and my hair doesn’t get stuck in it.
That’s a lot of good all around for $15 at UD counters.
3. There isn’t a single clean eye brush anywhere in this house at the moment.
Not one. I haven’t washed my eye brushes in WEEKS, and I don’t have a good reason. I’ve just been been putting it off, but I used the last clean one this morning (a flat shadow brush from NARS), so sh*t just got real.
In my defense, waiting as long as I have has forced me to get creative with my blending and to use my fingers more often.
As the saying goes, laziness is the mother of invention. 🙂
4. I really want Way Bandy’s Designing Your Face book.
Way Bandy was a makeup artist in the ’70s and ’80s (Kevyn Aucoin supposedly idolized him), and I’ve heard amazing things about his book, which is supposed to be very technical and detailed, which I would totally be into.
The only problem is that it’s out of print now, and the least expensive used copy on Amazon is $166!
I’ve seen the hardcovers go for almost $500 (!) on eBay, which is craziness.
But I really want one.
5. I’m DYING over this year’s Victoria Beckham Estée Lauder collection.
Oh! — the eye glosses and lipsticks!? I just wish Victoria would go ahead and release an entire makeup line of her own already. Why doesn’t she? I’d probably want every single thing…

You have baby wipes everywhere. Just wipe your brushes with those until you can actually clean them. Or get some Parian Spirit to change your life and leave your brushes smelling like orange blossoms (https://www.beautylish.com/b/parian-spirit).
My toddler(!) doesn’t give me a moment of peace. I end up washing my makeup brushes when I take a shower because we have a tiny shelf to house shampoo/soap bottles in our shower stall. When I’m done I lay the clean brushes flat on a face towel while I finish up my business. Of course they are placed high on the counter away from curious little hands.

Karen–Go back to Amazon and take another look…I’m seeing the Way Bandy book (hardcover, used) for $26. I received it as a Christmas present the year it came out, when I was 20. Detailed advice and a different way of thinking. Lots artistry and the mixing of pigments. The materials and tools he used were not widely available, or aquireable in 1977. I’ve often thought I’d like to take another shot at it, with internet shopping making access so much easier. Curious to know your thoughts.

Karen, I read your headline that “no one wears bold lips to baby story time,” and immediately thought, “except for YOU!” I am so glad that I wasn’t wrong because I love that you wear bold lips! If you do deep green, PLEASE TAKE A PIC. I need more bold lip colors in my life.
Karen says
OK, for sure! I think I’ll start with something like hot pink and work my way to the green, haha!

Your first revelation made me smile. I used to wear bold lips to my Mom’s support group when I had my baby. Wearing makeup helped me to still feel like me after my child was born. I made a friend from that group who later told me her first impression of me was based on my lipstick and her admiration that I wore it! We’re still good friends today.
Karen says
That’s a lovely story, Jaclyn. Wearing makeup also makes me feel the same way… So next week, bold pink lips are in the house.
I’m sorry if I’ve asked you this already, but how old is your child?

I just have to say that I’ve been lusting after Tom Ford’s Young Adonis since you blogged about it in March – every time I’m in Sephora, I look at it…and leave it – until Tuesday. OMG! I love it so much! I’m just sad I didn’t buy it sooner. Also got the Fenty Gloss Bomb and it’s so fantastic. Thank you for your great reviews!
Karen says
Hi Dana,
AHHH, Young Adonis is SOOOO BEAUTIFUL! I’m glad you love it. All of the TF creams are magical. And yay for that Fenty Gloss! Have you tried layering it yet with any other lipsticks? It’s super pretty on top of pinkish nudes.
Happy Friday to ya!
Dana says
I haven’t but I’ll have to try that! Thanks ?

I’d love to hear about the reaction after the green lipstick! I’m pretty sure the kids will love it. I’m loving your lipstick and eye make-up in this post. May I know which lipstick it is, Karen?
Karen says
Or the kids will run away, LOL! 🙂
Thanks for the compliment, Anagha. So, the lip is this GORGEOUS nude by Hourglass called Peacemaker. I like that it’s opaque and has some warmth to it (a lot of nudes wash me out), and it’s really hydrating too! I carry it with me all the time. If you have any other questions about it, just ask. It’s one of my fave lippies and I love to talk about it!

I’m going to have to stop reading your posts every day; my Sephora online basket is getting ridiculous. 😉
To get the best price on the Way Bandy book, try using the Camelizer browser extension. You can set the price you want and Camelizer will email you when it drops to or below that price. It works on just about everything Amazon offers, along with most 3rd party sellers. I’ve gotten some serious deals on all kinds of things.

I was the lady with bold lips at early childhood classes too, but only once transfer proof liquid lips were a thing. Otherwise I always smear it on someone/something. ?

Hi Karen,
Try abehbooks.com (Advanced Book Exchange) for the Way Bandy book. I see 4 copies in the GOOD to VERY GOOD condition range for $48. I’ve ordered quite a few books from seller from ABE over the years. They’re good. Good luck!

Like playgrounds, no one ever wears a bold lip there. I used to and it sometimes was a conversation starter. Never green though.

Agreed! Victoria Beckham’s collection is AMAZING. If only I had the money to purchase it! haha
