Fueled by drinking coffee at 5 p.m. yesterday, which was not my best move, but I needed a boost before HIIT class, and killer PMS insomnia, I spent way too many hours last night binge-listening to this awesome beauty podcast called Fat Mascara.
Very entertaining!
It’s my latest fave thing.
But that’s not the point of this post. The point of this post is that I don’t think most people will be able to tell that I was up till 3 in the morning listening to ladies dish about lipgloss because I’m wearing this KICK-@SS new concealer by It Cosmetics called Perfect Lighting Radiant Touch Magic Wand, which is just like $42 YSL Touche Éclat, but soooo much better and less expensive. It’s $29.
Radiant Touch fills the same niche as Touche Éclat, meaning that it’s a liquid under-eye concealer and highlighting pen rolled into one, but Radiant Touch is much more pigmented. It completely covers my dark circles by itself, and the finish is off the charts! — like, undetectable. I can’t even tell I’m wearing any makeup at all under my eyes.
Seriously, concealer technology has sci-fi rocketed by leaps and bounds over the past few years. They’ve gotten so skin-like that you can do a half-@ssed job putting them on, and most people can’t even tell. It’s amazing!
Unfortunately, Radiant Touch doesn’t come in anywhere near as many shades as Touche Éclat. It’s only available in three shades — pale pink Radiant Neutral, pale neutral beige Radiant Light and warm peach Radiant Honey (which is the shade I’m wearing here).
I do one click, or two at the most, brush it directly onto my skin with the brush applicator, then use my fingers to blend and set it with a little powder. Today I used MAC Mineralize Skinfinish instead of my usual NARS Translucent Crystal, because I was in a hurry to get to Baby Story Time at the library, so I didn’t have time to futz with multiple face powders.
You know how it is, but it’s really, really, REALLY good once you set it, and it lasts and looks natural all day long.
Like, It Cosmetics has been on freakin’ fire ? with their fall releases. Between this highlighting concealer, their concealer in a pot and their new foundation, I don’t even know what to do with myself.
If you’re in the 30- and 40-plus age group and like skin that looks like skin, swatch some of their new stuff ASAP.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Stop it! No pun intended. This stuff is better than YSL Touche Eclat? That’s a bold statement sister. I’m planning a trip to the mothership this weekend so I’ll try it out and see for myself.
Also, I’m psyched to hear about this makeup podcast. I’ll check it out. I’m not a huge podcast listener but I’ve been in kind of a podcast groove lately. Food Blogger Pro has an excellent podcast and it’s really for anyone interested in blogging in general or entrepreneurship. I also listen to Lore–spooky folklore stuff, which the producers of Walking Dead have turned into a tv show somewhere-maybe Netflix or Amazon? Can’t remember where.
Also, coffee at 5 p.m.? You’re living life on the wild side. 3 p.m. is turning into my cutoff.
What are you and Connor doing this weekend?
Karen says
I think 3 p.m. is my new cutoff, too. NO more!
Hmmm, weekend plans… No set plans yet, but I just found an early childhood music and dance studio that I think Connor might like, so I’m trying to see if we can take a free class to see if she likes it.
What are you up to?
Jane says
Sounds like something to check out. I have been reading more about the IT Cosmetics line regarding the skin care. The foundation sounds like it would be a perfect choice and this highlighter/concealer pen sounds good.
I recently read an article about women and insomnia. While it referred mostly to women in peri/post menopause (welcome to my post-world), it also said that many women who are pre-menopausal can experience insomnia. Two things they mentioned were not drinking caffeine late in the day and if you are going to exercise, to do it earlier in the day. I thought that was interesting.
Anyway, enjoy the weekend.
Karen says
Yeah, I think I have to stop drinking coffee after 2 or 3. I wish I was one of those people who could drink it whenever! My friend Cindy is like that. She’ll have a cup after dinner and it won’t do anything for her.
What are you guys up to this weekend?
Arianne says
I waaaant that. Even turning 30 has changed my skin *a lot.* I’m definitely going to try this! I love YSL Touche Eclat but I can’t get myself to buy them because of the price.
Karen says
Oh, for sure. When I turned 30 everything changed so much! The biggest surprise was how dry my skin turned all of a sudden. Before 30 I was oil slick city!
Hope you’re having a great Friday so far. How’s baby Sarah doing?
Kim says
You look very chipper! 🙂 Sorry, I’m like Cindy – copious amounts of caffeine at any time have no effect on my sleep. But take it away and I’m awake all night. I believe that’s called “addiction”. HAHA! PS A coworker got me into Matcha Green Tea (the ceremonial kind). She said a 4 oz cup kept her awake for days; I was regularly sleepy. But the real point is that it’s high in antioxidants and is supposed to be good for your skin, prevent cancer, all that jazz. She had a long list. I thought if it did ONE of those things, I’d be on board. It tastes like grass/spinach – easy to gulp.
Happy Friday!!

Karen,
Just thought I’d let you know I think your skin has been looking absolutely radiant lately- I don’t know if it’s your skin care or your makeup or a combo of the two but please consider giving a daily breakdown of what you have used for each picture you post- down to your skin care- or maybe once a week/month ? Luv your blog !!!

I need to check out more It Cosmetics. Coffee at 5pm? Wow, my cut off is just after lunch. And only if I’ve only had one cup in the morning.
If I exercise in the evening I can’t fall asleep.
Karen says
Yeah, I need to stop the insanity, but I feel like if I don’t drink it in the afternoon I will fall asleep during dinner (I’m now that person).
Are you still working with your trainer?
Tatiana says
Yeah, I cut him back to one day a week because I picked up a day with another trainer in the gym. His guy-ness was beginning to wear on me and the woman I’m starting to work out with mixes things up a bit so I don’t get bored. I’m looking to try something else one or two days a week so I’m not always doing the same stuff every other day.
Chelsea says
Ooooh. I find Touche Eclat to have nearly no pigment, but this sounds so good. I’m usually looking for a natural look.
Erin says
OHHHH, I need this. I’m not sure if I’d need the light or the neutral. I have both purple/blue/green veins and massive redness. Probably would need both :/
