Two more days ’til National Lipstick Day!
I must confess… Sometimes when I drink too much coffee, which I did today, I get so hyper that 1) I annoy myself, and 2) my hands get really sweaty, and when my hands get sweaty, I have a hard time opening the Hourglass Confession Lipsticks.
They look so cool, but man! — they’re slick.
Shout-out to the person (or peeps) who decided to put these in bullet-shaped packaging, though. Very clever. 🙂 A bullet-shaped case with a lipstick bullet inside? Oh, the symbolism. The layers within layers. That kind of thing gets me every time (it’s the former English major in me).
Latest lip launch bound for the permanent collection
The Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipsticks have the look of a full-coverage liquid lipstick, but they are so much more comfy than that and waaaaay easier to apply. They just launched into the Hourglass permanent line and, yes, their name suits them perfectly. They’re slim, refillable full-coverage lipsticks with a satin finish, and they’re available in 30 shades, including some nudes, mauves, pinks, berries and reds.
Nothing too crazy, though. Hourglass doesn’t usually do, like, overtly trendy lip shades, so no greens or blues. And I don’t detect a flavor or scent when I wear them.
The golden cases are refillable, and you can get one case with a lipstick for $34, but the refills are also available for $22, so one could save a few bucks by just getting a refill and using that. I’m just sayin’.
I think the case is adorable, but I can see myself losing it in the endless pit that is my Michael Kors tote, so I dunno…
What’s chic, elegant, expensive but approachable? (Here’s a hint: it’s Hourglass.)
If you’re new to Hourglass, I think they’re well worth getting to know better. It’s a high-end line out of SoCal. They’re been around for years with their elegant, chic aesthetic, but they aren’t one of those dauntingly luxurious brands. I think there’s just something very cool about them, ya know? They’re famous for their Ambient Lighting Powders and palettes, but they’ve also made major waves lately with their Vanish Finish Seamless Foundation Stick and Girl Lip Stylos.
Like NARS Audacious…
I freakin’ love these! They’re a lot like the fabulous NARS Audacious lippies (except in many ways better). They’re intense, and you can build them up to full opacity, but they’re also smoother, last longer and MUCH more moisturizing.
Unlike so many long-wearing lipsticks, these aren’t drying. They aren’t painful, which is a wonderful reprieve when you like long-wearing lipsticks but you’re also livin’ that #dryliplife.
Their color stays fully intact for hours, too. Like, it doesn’t break up at all, which is unusual for such a creamy lipstick.
But that’s not all…
When I’m wearing one and take a sip of coffee, I barely see any lipstick left behind on the rim of the cup. Most of it stays on my lips, where it belongs! The other day I took Connor out for a walk after lunch (a turkey sandwich, a white peach and a berry La Croix, if you must know) and ran into two of my neighbors, both of whom just happen to be makeup peeps, and both gals asked for the name of the fabulous hot pink lipstick I was wearing (it was called I Believe). It looked like I had just applied it minutes before, but it had been hours.
Go for the brights
I’ve tried five shades, and the brights are the superstars for me. They’re exceptional, and exceptionally long-lasting. No patchiness, and they’re crazy comfortable. The only one I’ve had any trouble with is pale peachy pink No One Knows, which doesn’t stick to the middle of my lips as well as the others. If you’re looking to go the nude lip route with something similar, I think the Girl Lip Stylos are better (check out Influencer and Peacemaker).
If you’re interested, I highly recommend one of the bright shades. You won’t regret it.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

These are all way too pink for me but they look great on you. And I love that you bring Connor out for a walk wearing bright pink lipstick. 🙂
Karen says
It’s the only way to do it! Haha! 🙂

The Hourglass lipsticks look so gorgeous and luxurious. I’m obsessed with the packaging but also think I’d quickly lose it in my purse, a long with the 10 other lip products I probably have in there.

These are gorgeous and you look healthy and glowy! I hope I can get to them soon!
Don’t know how you keep your hair so long and looking like that! After having my daughter I had to cut it a bit, she just kept grabbing it
Karen says
Hi Ana,
LOL, babies are hilarious! They’re either grabbing your hair or putting food it in. 🙂 I wear mine up a lot; it’s easier to just throw it in a bun or a ponytail than have to deal with it when it’s shoulder length or shorter. At shorter lengths I have no other option than to style it, ya know? How old is your little girl?
Karen says
Hi Erin,
Good thing it’s so shiny, right? When the light hits it, it’s kind of like a beacon, LOL!
Merch says
I love it all! There is a lot of pink in varying shades that are “so close” it would hard to pick one or two, however, would like to see a “carmine” shade which is more of a bright coral and a touch of light brown and orange….gorgeous!
Karen says
Hi Merch,
The ways these feel on lips is incredible. So smooth and comfy. Long lasting, too! I hope you find a shade to love!

I read somewhere MAC is giving away free lipstick on the 29th.
Karen says
Yup, it’s true. It’ll be at MAC stores and retailer. You’ll probably want to get there early because it’s while supplies last.
Tatiana says
Unless I can find them where I can see and touch them, I doubt I’ll splurge. These are twice as expensive as Tom Ford’s Lips & Boys if you consider the amount of lipstick in these. I’m not digging the packaging either.
Daphne Barfield says
Hi Karen!
I just saw online that on Saturday, for National Lipstick Day, all MAC stores are giving away a full-size lipstick. There is no purchase necessary, and there are no stipulations. Just pick a lipstick and go!! Get there early before they are all gone!
Karen says
Yup! I got the info this morning, too. I probably won’t go because I have family over this weekend, so have fun! I hope you get a great color. Woo hoo!

I wonder if you were allowed to take these on the plane with you. I mean, they look like weapons, or at least as if you could stab someone with them.
