Um…no.
Not gonna happen, because even though I trust that man with many things, including my life and the life of my cat, I don’t trust him with my hair.
Not even if the zombie apocalypse went down and there were no other humans around capable of wielding scissors, I STILL wouldn’t let El Hub touch my hair (sorry, babe!).
I mean, the man barely remembers to cut his own toenails every few months, and I’m supposed to trust him to trim my hair…?
No.
Here’s how it would go down: I’d start to get all micro-manage-y and nervous, and that would just annoy him, and then we’d start yelling at each other over something completely unrelated and totally dumb, and then he’d accidentally cut off a big-@ss chunk of my hair in the back. ?
Now, if he were a trained stylist, that would be different, and I’ve always thought it would be super cool to date someone who could actually do hair (particularly curly/wavy hair). Of course, in this dream scenario, El Hub would also be able to do color, too, and could hook me up with some bomb balayage. 🙂
How about you? Would you trust your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend to cut your hair?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

HELL NO! Sometimes I don’t even trust professionals, so…

So funny you posted this… I just cut my husbands hair for the first time. ? The barber was closed and he really needed one. Lol, took and hour and a half but it’s done and he likes it (I’m a perfectionist with that type of thing, so I was like ‘Wait I see one hair!’. I don’t think he would want to cut my hair. If I had to, he could cut the back and I could do the side layers.

A big no!!!!!!! But I actually cut my daughter’s hair and I felt good though it’s not really that pretty. My point is I did not know that cutting someone’s hair can be relaxing too! hahaha! I should be a hairstylist. jk!

Sure, he trims my hair in the kitchen every few months. I have long low maintenance hair that he just trims, I refuse to spend 80 dollars on that (Danish prices suck)

Mine hubby trims, and colors, my hair all the time. Not only is he an artist, but he was in a metal band in the 80s, and his sister is a hairstylist, so he has tons of experience with hair. As a matter of fact, I once had a disaster with at-home color, so he got the key to his sister’s salon at 1 am, and corrected my hair. (Plus he has formal training as a photographer, and did makeup, so he taught me to contour in the 90s). Guess I’m pretty lucky! 😉
Rachel says
Yes! Just a trim, though. My hubby cuts his own hair because it’s never exactly how he wants it when he goes to the barber. He’s not a trained stylist, but portends and family come over for hair cuts too! He’s always getting compliments. If I was in a pinch and needed a good trim, I’m sure he could hook me up too!

Haha, NO. I research the heck out of every stylist I visit because I’ve got super-curly hair, so–as much as I love my husband–if we were the last two people left on earth, I’d become comfortable with growing my hair very long 🙂
Lindsay says
Yup, he’s cut my hair. It was an easy cut, just side swept bangs and one layer of hair, so it’s something he used to do often in college when I couldn’t afford to go to the professionals. But he’s the one who can do manicures, pedicures, and French braids. 😉

NO.
my sister did that once, her boyfriend put her hair in a ponytail and cut the end off, called it done.

Ahhhahahaha!!! This was the best way to start my early morning at the office. And the answer would be a big, FAT NO. Just not going to happen. The toenail reference – SPOT ON! Happy Friday!
Rachel R. says
No, he wouldn’t know how to deal with the layers I need for my volume-less hair. He colors it for me, though, and does a great job. The hair stylists even give me compliments on my hair color.

My husband???!!! No way!!! I can’t even begin to imagine the disaster that would turn out to be. And yeah, I’d micromanage and we’d end up fighting and I love him too much to fight with him.
My girlfriend, yes. Because she was trained at Vidal Sassoon and I’ve followed her from salon to salon.

‘My life and the life of my cat.’…. hahah! Karen, seriously you’ve got a wonderful sense of humor. That reflects in your post very much and this is one of the reasons why I enjoy reading your posts! 🙂
Coming to the topic, I’d NEVER let my boyfriend/husband cut my hair! I love my hair and it is growing past the classic length. I can never imagine someone cutting my hair, even myself. I’d only go for occasional trims, may be.

I’d try anything once. My hubs has never cut hair but he is good at so many other things involving delicate handiwork, it might turn out ok. He has a great eye, and besides, I am not that attached to my hair. Please tell me what nail color you are wearing in this post- you ROCK the heck out of this metallic green shade!
Stephanie says
Haha…NO. Sometimes if he’s waited too long to get his hair cut he’ll try to trim it. It ends up looking ridiculous because he keeps hacking at it. He thinks it’s uneven or he needs to touch it up a bit and it just gets shorter and shorter. So no. I can’t even imagine what I’d look like. I have super thick hair that even professional hairstylists have trouble with.
Lulle says
Hell no… He insists on cutting his own hair with a trimmer and I always have to fix the mess! So no way I would let him cut my hair, unless I wanted a straight bob without any kind of layering.

Oh Hell no…My boyfriend cuts his own hair and sometimes it just doesn’t look right. Plus he told me not to cut my hair because he likes it long.

My hairdresser accidentally missed a small section of hair at the back of my head. I could feel it whenever I bunched my ponytail together. It bothered me so much that I handed my husband the scissors and asked him to trim off the longest bits.
Talk about love and trust.
LindaLibraLoca says
No. My husband uses a razor blade on his own hair so I would never ever let him touch mine.
My mother trims my ends though, and she does very well.
Ruta says
It’s been done but my dad hasn’t been allowed near my hair since my early/mid teenage years. He used to trim my ends and well but when my hair started demanding rounded ends we came at an impasse – he decided we only does straight lines 😀
Nowadays its either a hairdresser or DIY. Mostly a haridresser, especially since I’m ATTEMPTING to keep my hair long. Or get it there more so 😀

I have an undercut that I have my husband shave out for me every few weeks. I’m not too concerned about my hair anyway (it will grow back!), so I didn’t even freak out when I handed him the scissors the first time and had him cut it off before he started in with the clippers. We just went about 2 inches higher last weekend, so I handed over the scissors again and he cut a huge chunk of hair out, then shaved. Of course, I realize I’m in the minority and most women wouldn’t let their husband near their hair with clippers! I have also taught him how to bleach it and dye it (I usually keep my undercut some funky color, like neon green or pink), so he’s learning. He is the kind of guy who does absolutely no grooming to himself – bar soap on his face, I cut his hair with clippers, was baffled when I gave him a beard grooming kit for xmas – so teaching him how to work with my hair has been interesting! I don’t have him do trims or major cuts though – I feel like that might be asking for trouble!

I used to beg Mr. M to walk away from his computer and give me a hair cut. He never knew what he was doing, I just walked him through it with verbal instructions while he wielded the scissors. I always got compliments on those haircuts! The best ever was when I made a ponytail and literally had him hack it off. It took a good 20 minutes or so to convince him I wouldn’t be mad at the results. He hates doing it though, so now I just see my stylist Annie every 2 months 🙂

Hahaha! No way, that would be the ned of the world! 😀 :p

Well Yes, of course! When we first started dating, I mentioned I needed a haircut because it had ben nearly a year sinc my last one. I HATE going to the salon and went on a rant. He told me he could cut it for me and on our next dae he set me up on a stool in his kitchen ad gave me a haircut, exactly one inch as I asked him. He was very meticulous. He combed my hair out starting at the bottom with a wide tooth comb, sectioned it, pinned up layers and then trimmed them even. Well it was the BEST haircut I could ever rememember getting. I was pleased. It looked great. He now trims it for me every other month. I get a glass of wine set before me after he capes me. I get a back rub, neck massage and thanks to his respect for my wishes to grow my hair long, I have managed to grow mine out to my elbows. It saves me hundrds of dollars a year, and I never have to worry about him getting scissor happy and chopping too much off 🙂
