If we had the technology to locate all of the black hair elastics that disappear into the ether, we’d be running missions to Mars already and basically winning at LIFE.
Where do they go?!
The last of mine disappeared recently (How? Why?), so I bought a pack of Goody Ouchless Elastics for Thick Hair, and girl…ugh. Don’t do it. They break easily, slip right off my ponytail, and essentially drive me nuts every time I wear one.
But, on the glass-half-full side, they led me to rediscover my love for the Mia Beauty Tony Ties, which are SO GREAT! 🙂
I’ve talked about these before, but I think they’re worth another mention, because they can securely keep a ponytail up through jogging, and they don’t leave a crease in your hair.
Oh, and they don’t give me headaches, like I get from certain other hair elastics. Bonus: you can even wear them as bracelets, if you want.
A pack of six in different colors and cute prints is $3.99. I have the leopard one in my hair right now, and I’m much happier for it. 🙂

Seriously, my house could be built by these ties judged by the amount of ones I have lost there over the years. There must be an unknown species feeding on them. Invisible species, most likely.
Karen says
Yes! They feed on hair elastics and bobby pins!

I hear you on the lost or broken hair ties. I have to wrap mine like three times since my hair isn’t very thick. I think that stretches them out even faster. I’ve recently starting leaving one in my “makeup baggie” in my purse and another in my sunglasses case so I always have one when I’m out and about. It’s been very handy!
Karen says
Ahh, genius idea to keep an extra in your sunglasses case!
Kim says
Thanks! Though I nearly had a heart attack yesterday while driving one of the boys to get new skates. It must have fallen onto my shorts when I put my sunglasses on and I didn’t notice. About a mile down the road, I felt something slide down my thigh, thought it was a bug and just about jumped out of my skin while letting out a whoop. We got a good laugh when I saw it was just the hair tie. 🙂
Karen says
Oh gosh, I freak out when there are bugs on me too! You aren’t alone in that. I once looked in the mirror and there was a spider on my shoulder and I had a full-on reality TV worthy breakdown with screaming, flailing limbs and everything.

These look just like EmiJay hair ties!! I wonder if Mia is trying to do something similar.

I know where mine go. I caught Red (my Tabs) running low to the ground (like the thief he is) out of my bathroom. He loves to play with them on the hardwood floors. He and his sister have boxes of toys, but hair ties are better than them all.
Karen says
Hi Lily,
Cats are so funny. Tabs has all these toys, too, but he’d rather play with tissue paper. 🙂
How old is Red?
Lily says
Mine love tissue paper, boxes, paper bags…..Red and his sister Star just turned 7 on the 4th of July.

I love the ribbon ones too, they work so well! Plus they give me less traction headaches and breakage!
