Heya, cuties! I’m feeling the need for some end-of-the-week beauty catharsis. As I sit here typing this sentence, my hair stinks more than sticky pleather pumps in the summertime.
This week several beauty rituals fell by the wayside. There were so many exciting makeup releases to cover (Chanel summer!!), plus I had hella reading and homework to do.
Thank goodness for all the fab beauty remedies we have at our fingertips. Without ’em, I might’ve completely devolved into Pig-Pen territory.
With the Powers-That-Be as my witness, here are all the beauty violations I’m guilty of this week.
Beauty Confession: I can’t remember the last time I washed my hair. I think it might’ve been Tuesday? I’m usually very motivated to be clean so I shower every night, but for the past few days I haven’t been washing my hair before bed. Drying five pounds of wet hair at 1 a.m. is no fun.
When my hair smells sketchy in the mornings I reach for Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo ($24). It’s a fine powder mist I spray on my roots. Naturia removes the greasy smell, erases oily shine and boosts volume. While not as refreshing as a real deal shampoo sesh, in a pinch it gets the job done.
Beauty Confession: All the nails on my left hand are different colors. Avril Lavigne could get away with it during her Sk8er Boi era. On me it just looks plain crazy.
When I’m feeling swamped, eliminating the cotton ball from the nail polish removal equation makes the job a billion times easier.
Sally Hansen has one for busy beauties like us called Kwik Off ($4). It’s a big ole’ sponge soaked with nail polish remover and housed in a jar. I open the jar up, stick my finger into a pre-made hole in the sponge, twist it around a few times, et voila — my nail polish disappears faster than Cuba Gooding Jr.’s film career.
Beauty Confession: I haven’t showered in two days. Earlier I mentioned that I usually shower every night, but last night I was totally glued to the tube (The Millionaire Matchmaker on Bravo, watch it!). Plus, just the thought of squeezing a jar of body wash felt exhausting.
Instead of an actual real shower before bed, I spritzed my stanky bod from head to toe with Clean’s Shower Fresh Eau de Parfum ($38) before slipping on my pajamas. It’s a light fragrance with a fresh, soapy scent. Ah, to smell shower fresh without an actual shower — it’s priceless.
Beauty Confession: I haven’t plucked my eyebrows in days. Now they resemble overweight caterpillars.
Many brow tweezers have crossed my path, and out of ’em all my favorite is the Slant Tweezer by Tweezerman ($20). Like the Terminator of all brow tweezers, the Tweezerman gets the job done efficiently, quickly and with minimal effort. The prongs have the perfect amount of tension, and the slanted tip grabs even the tiniest hairs. I plan to defuzz myself this afternoon and rejoin the land of the living.
Lovely ladies, are you guilty of any beauty violations? Now is the time to confess your makeup and beauty related sins in the comments!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I didn’t pluck my eyebrows for two/three weeks…I was at bed bath and beyond with el bf and I looked into one of the magnifying mirrors…well, I startled myself and had to turn away really fast lol. I resembled Frida Kahlo…
I need a pedicure desperately…my feet are looking BUSTED…but I have to wait for my next check!
Thanks for the space to confess!
Tatiana says
Ain’t nothin wrong with a ho bath! I’ve been letting my eyebrows grow, out of sheer laziness. It’s kind of nice because they look fuller! Now I just have to restrain from overplucking once I do muster the energy to pluck.
Jessica says
I use an epilator on my legs instead of shaving…..I only have to do it once every 2-3 weeks and it makes your hair sparce, thin and light-colored…..great results however you have to actually let the hair grow long enough for it to actually work…..My legs are so hairy right now I won’t even touch them.
Karen says
Hi Jessica,
Girl, I feel that pain. There’s a reason why I’m wearing long pants 24/7, LOL!
gina says
hehe i loved reading this, you are to cute
i haven’t had a pedicure in over two months!!
in the winter i only shave my legs once a week … sometimes even less often!

i think it’s time for some special attention for all of us chickees:)

Hi Gina,
I hear that! I can’t believe that I’m truly excited to spend some time plucking my eyebrows. It feels like Christmas!
BTW, I am in desperate need of a pedi, too. 🙂
Ashley Jean says
I have this bottle of conditioner in my shower I keep thinking is shampoo (I’ve accidentally used it on my scalp like 6 times or something). Dry shampoo is really good for getting the grease out fast. I like Batiste ’cause it works well and only costs $5-6 @ Sally Beauty Supply.
Karen says
Hi Ashley,
Oh, I haven’t tried that brand yet. Does it smells good? That price is so right!
Shefali says
I’ve actually been really lazy this week on beauty stuff too. As of this moment…I need to shower. Why haven’t I? Cuz I’m uploading loads of pics on Facebook. I need to pluck. I need to do my nails. It’s so much to think about…I’m procrastinating. I feel you Karen!
Karen says
Hi Shefali,
LOL! I *still* need to shower too. I just ate some baked Cheetoes and watched 15 minutes of Law and Order, SVU. The cuteness factor is way low right now.
Hope you’re having a good Friday, though! 🙂
Tekoa says
Its been months since I tweezed my brows. *hides* I do shave the pesky ones between them though least I look like Bert from Seaseme Street.
Karen says
Hi Tekoa,
The Bert monobrow action is never good.
I just plucked five hairs from my left eye. I think I used up all my energy for the day.
Heidi says
I haven’t washed my hair in two days. Call me weird but I kind of like the smell of dirty, greasy hair. LOL!
Briana says
I would love to say I’m guilty of something, but oddly enough since moving I haven’t been… I think its because theres so many good looking people in this new-to-me city that I couldn’t bear to go out without putting my face on, making my hair look decent and wearing clean clothes…
If anything its plucking, but I hate doing that so I just don’t… I go pay someone else $15 every month or so to rip the stray eyebrows off.
However before I moved… I would have been guilty of every beauty violation in the book almost every day of the week… Maybe I’m turning over a new leaf? Look good = feel good, I guess.

Briana says
Oh and I always go 2-3 before washing my hair again, it gets way too dry if I do it everyday.

Add me to the caterpillar brow list and the fuzzy dirty hair one too!! I have a hot dinner date tomorrow so I’ll spend the day sprucing up!
Oh and also add me to the ‘need an armpit shave’ list too! The joys of single-hood… 🙂
Jian says
Oh my gosh. I am so relieved that I am not the only girl in the world that just can’t make it into the shower to wash my hair everyday T_T Sometimes the thought of blowdrying my hair at 2am doesn’t appeal to me either.
I don’t do my eyebrows at all unless I get prompted to for some reason, i.e. I stare at the magnifying side of a vanity mirror for 5 minutes inspecting them.
I also really, really need to do my feet. My soles are so cracked that if I swiped at someone with them they’d do more damage than a scratch from Tabs.
Thank God its the weekend…

HAHA.
i’m so guilty of the shaving my legs less in the winter.. haha..
i heard somewhere that angelina jolie uses johnson’s baby powder to freshen her hair when it’s not clean…or something like that ;D
Shiny says
Oh I feel you Karen..
1) Today I had my first haircut since Christmas
2) I washed my hair pre-haircut because I have some shame, but I regularly go a week without washing my hair… first five days I look fine, last day or two I wear a headband to cover my greasy roots
3) I only shave my ankles… I am single and live in Canada, you do that math.
You are back in student mode now – it is acceptable to eat too much unhealthy food, bathe only for special occasions and stay up all hours. Welcome to my world!
oops! says
I’ve been guilty of all those crimes in the past except for the rainbow nails! Sometimes a girl just wants to have a lazy Sunday in the middle of the week :).
redhead says
rofl, i SOOOO need a pedicure right now! The skin on the my feet is rouch and dry, my soles are scaly, itchy, smelly and dirty, my toenails are starting to become an odd yellowish/greenish color at the tips and the lengths are uneven. Right now I’m a on a makeup shortage too.. i want Lingering brow pencil, the gold glitter eyeliner, rich ground fluidline, goldmine eyeshadow, stars n rockets, and nocturnelle! But i dont have any money so THAT goes right out the window..
TUPRNUT says
I’m thrilled by this post. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only woman with “gross” days or weeks 🙂
Here’s mine: when my husband’s deployed, I only shave to my ankles unless I’m wearing capris. He’s been gone for a month now and things are getting pretty hairy. I think I’m finally going to break down and shave because I have this fear that I’m going to get in a car accident or something and the hospital staff will find things scary hairy.
Marisol says
You are hilarious!
Shaving has definitely been not as often. Good thing for comfy sweat pants.

I totally do the whole ‘haven’t washed my hair in 2 days’ thing…I can’t help it, I have so much of it (trying to grow it to donate it) and it’s SUCH a pain to deal with lately. Oh, and of course I ran into a cute friend yesterday, and he reached out to hug me once I had to leave. Yeeeeah, thank GOD for perfume.
That’s probably my worst offence…
Tiffany says
ohhh, I definitely have times like that when I get too busy and all maintenance falls by the wayside. last weekend I played catch up, scrubbed, shaved, pedicured, even self-tanned. I felt so much better afterward 🙂
Catherine says
LOL. I totally understand. But… that Kwik Off thing actually looks quite nifty. I hate taking off polish!
Marissa says
I have comps tomorrow so beauty has fallen to the wayside. I’ve been showering every other day (which is gross because I have very oily hair. I’m a fan of Oscar Blandi’s dry shampoo. The eyebrows haven’t been plucked as much. I haven’t shaved in a week. The only make up I’ve been wearing (even though I’ve been on campus everyday) has been a few swipes of MAC Studio Fix foundation and blush. I also haven’t used any self tanner (I like to use the gradual stuff every few days in the winter) and I look like a ghost. This has not been a very beautiful week lol.
Kristen says
same here. my brows havent been properly shaped probably in months and my nails are in serious need of redoing.
Erika says
I’m so jealous that you can go a few days w/o washing your hair! If I don’t wash mine on a DAILY basis it looks like someone poured a gallon of grease on my head! I hate it! IF I haven’t washed it I put a ball cap or do not even go out.
I shaved my legs today for the first time in a WEEK! I wonder if its the cold, gloomy weather that is making me lazy?!?! 🙂
Thanks for keeping it real!
tanya says
I’ve been known to actually FORGET to pluck my eyebrows (like…for weeks..I have no idea how that happens). Ha. Beat that!

OMG Karen and ladies, I totally feel you! My hair hasn’t been washed in days either, just rinsed out a bit. My prob is that its not just me who needs a clean up my house does to! So today I’m cleaning the house and then I’m going to clean myself! Its bad when you and your bath tub need exfoliated!
Alison says
I sometimes don’t wash my hair for days, it looks so horrible but sometimes it just feels like such a chore, I hate doing it first thing in the morning so try to do it at night. But sometimes I’m just too tired to bother!
Bj says
So I’m too lazy lately to do my roundbrush blowdrying, but girl needs volume. I use dry shampoo to amp it up and tease! My cuticles are a hot mess right now, but i use my burts bees chapstick last night to push them back and it worked pretty well!
Karen says
Hi BJ,
Yeah, dry shampoo works GREAT for that! I love how my oily roots get a boost of life after a good spray.
dimpy says
hey i feel same like all of you above ,ages sincei got my eyebrows done but I get threading done so it works for me like a month till it grow back……i have to get m y nails done … i went to mac to buy the something about pink from hello kitty one( inkew it z crazy color) but tis sold out……sold out online n in store…….hmmmmmmmm
Karen says
Hi Dimpy,
I’ve never done threading before, but I’ve heard good things about it.
Did you end up getting anything else from MAC?
Wendy says
My heels are so bad that I can usually get my boyfriend to do anything by threatening to swipe them across his skin…
Karen says
Hi Wendy,
LOL! We’re in the same boat. Mine are very crusty. I get too lazy to put lotion on them!
Faye says
We’ve all been there, don’t feel too bad! I think back to me when I was getting my doctorate, and it rather amazes me that my husband married me during that time :).
I’m sure you look your usual beauteous self by now!
Tiffany says
I’ve been pretty good about maintaining myself EXCEPT for my feet. They are so dry and scaly!
Karen says
Hi Tiffany,
You’re not the only one! My heels are a mess right now, LOL. I hate putting lotion on my feet after I get out of the shower… blah!
pouneh says
Helloo ladies…i love how we all get lazy…i do not wash my hair more than once on usual weeks just because my hair is curly and does not get oily also it dries out if i do wash it more. I do need to take care of them brows…mine grow like grass i swear i pluck or thread them and the very next day i can c some hair. I am waiting for my new year (this Friday) to have them threaded. thankfully my feet and nails r nice and soft. I too use epilators but i need to use them every week, my legs r not that bad, but my thighs have not been cleaned for over a month HAHAHA…guilty am i not?
TerriB says
Lately I’ve been using just LUSH soap bars for everything: soap, shampoo, conditioner, shave cream. So tired sometimes that all of the bottle clutter in the shower gets knocked down by my flailing elbows anyway (maybe that only happens to me), and the noise is too much for a mom of a napping 7-month-old, so I call it simplifying. Yep. “Simplifying.” (Clarins sprays are great freshener-up-ers.)
You are too funny–love your self-deprecating humor and how you can keep it light to remind us not to fret too much over the small stuff while eating Cheetos!
Ashley Jean says
Hey there Karen –
It has a powdery lemony smell – a little weird, but not unpleasant, and it doesn’t last that long. You just spray a bunch where you need it, let it set for a couple minutes and brush it out. I haven’t tried any of the more expensive dry shampoos so I have nothing to compare it to, but it’s cheap and always gets the job done and gives my hair tons of body:
