Leonardo DiCaprio is THE MAN. For serious. Yesterday, the actor/environmentalist donated $1 million to support aid efforts in quake-ravaged Haiti, earning him my YOU GO, BOY! Award of the Day.
Born November 11, 1974 in Los Angeles, California, Leonardo’s been artfully kicking butt ever since the day his mother, a legal secretary, named him. She was pregnant at the time and gazing at one of Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings in a museum in Italy when little Leo first kicked. 🙂
Leo was a very youthful 16 when his acting career began. It started on TV, with sitcom stints on Parenthood (a series based on the movie) and Growing Pains. Those jobs led to his breakout film roles playing young Tobias Wolff in This Boy’s Life and Jack “I’m the king of the world!” Dawson in Titanic.
Today, thanks to the influence that comes with celebrity, Leo actively promotes issues near and dear to his heart, one being protection of the environment. Through The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and groups like Global Green (I’m a member!) and the National Resources Defense Council, he’s become one of the most influential people in Hollywood on global climate change.
Oh, and he works a mean set of bangs, LOL! 🙂

Karen

I love Leo. He is so cute and he has managed to avoid the usual child actor tragedies. He’s a really good actor and makes good choices. <3

I didn’t know the story behind his name – that’s interesting! Leo’s lucky his mom wasn’t staring at the work of some unfortunately-named artist, like Stanley, when he kicked!

I had a brief obsession with Leo when The Departed came out. I love a tortured man and he was so great in that. Add that to a Scorsese movie, and BLAM! 🙂

I was a full-blown Leo Lover back around the time Titanic came out, or a little before it. I had pictures of him all over my walls that I’d pulled out of teen magazines. I even have an old scrap book I made with a bunch of pages of pictures of him on it (and others guys as well).
I was boy crazy when I was in junior high.

I love all of Leo’s styles – except for the very slicked back hair ones he sometimes weares at events (not featured here). I love this guy to pieces since 13 years. Nothing but Love and Respect for him!!!!

I used to have a thing for Leo a long time ago. It started with Growing Pains. Bought issues of Tiger Beat because of him.
While I still find him to be an excellent actor, I don’t find him that crush worthy anymore.

Karen,
He’s a really great actor with such fabulous hair! I love Leo esp in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? which also has the delicious Johnny Depp. Oh and I love The Departed as well, such a great movie! The ending is a doozy to say the least.
