Dude, side braids are the best thing ever!
I wanted to shower before leaving for the hospital yesterday (The procedure went fine, BTW. My arm is A-OK), because I didn’t know if I’d have to skip a couple days once I had a bandage on, but I didn’t have time to really futz with my hair, so I straightened my bangs with a hairdryer, and put the rest of my mop in a side braid.
I like side braids because 1) they don’t give me a headache like tight buns (Haha! I said tight buns…) and ponytails sometimes do, and 2) they’re fairly easy and have that casually messy look I like.
Mad props to The Hunger Games movies for re-introducing them into my life. 🙂
Before those movies came out, I think the last time I actually wore braids of any kind was back in middle school. In seventh and eighth grades I was all about french twists and fishtail braids.
I wore ’em all the time! — but as I got older, I guess I started looking at braids as more for kids and moved on to ponytails, buns and french twists instead.
Now, though (thanks, ironically, in part to a series of young-adult movies), I’m back in love with braids.
Seriously, if you haven’t worn them in a while, give ’em a whirl!
Today’s hump day hair question for you: when was the last time you braided your hair?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. In case you were wondering what it’s like to be doted on by a tabby cat nurse, the following image pretty much sums it up…
Tabs believes in the healing power of touch. And proper nutrition, obvs. Can’t you can tell by his “healthy” physique?
Last night he ordered El Hub to make me dinner (fish and rice) and then insisted that I eat a scoop of Three Twins’ salted caramel ice cream for dessert.
Whatever tabby wants, tabby gets. 🙂
It’s Wednesday (woo-hoo!), which means we’re halfway to the weekend! What’s shakin’ in your neck of the woods? What’s on your agenda today?

This morning 🙂 I wear braids a lot, usually a loose side braid. Today I started at the right side of my head and braided in the braid all the way to the other side and then over my shoulder. Does that make sense? I bet it does. It’s super easy and a lot more complicated to explain that to actually do lol.

I am so looking forward to my hair being long enough to braid. I do a Dutch braid across the front occasionally, but I think a tousled braid is a great look especially for keeping hair in check on crazy days.

So glad your procedure went well! Hope you’re on the mend. My hair is cut shorter in the back, longer in the front, so no braids for me. As a kid and up till age 23, I had waist length hair and wore braids or a ponytail braided all the time. Once I cut my hair, I wore French braids in my late twenties/early 30s. When I was a teen, I thought it would be cool to wear braids when I got a lot older. Now, not so much! But I love the look on others, especially since there are so many ways to do braids now 🙂

Great minds think alike! Girlll I wore a side braid yesterday!!! Mine was to the right though. I was on 3 day hair and needed to get out and about. A side braid was quick and easy. I loved it. I have been wearing them alot when I bundle up to go outside. Have you tried a fish tail? I think they are cute but I can’t get mine tight enough to hold my shorter front pieces like I can with a regular braid.
I also had an epic fail yesterday. I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed how obviously darker my face was than my neck! Yikes! My scarf was my only savior! Darn winter.

I am glad your procedure went well and wishing you a speedy recovery! I love braids – they look great tight, loose, you name it. French braids keep my hair neat for work and interviews, as well as allow me to easily wear a scrub cap/HAZMAT gear if need be. I wear a French braid of some sort almost daily. If I need my hair up off the collar, my favorite easy style is a French braid (done wet with a little gel or mousse it will stay all day through pretty much anything) with the braid twisted up in a bun and secured with a hair tie or two.
We are awaiting a blizzard up here in MD, so I’ve been doing laundry and preparing some things in case we end up getting a power outage.

OMG!!! It’s pretty obvs to me that you are receiving only the BEST of Tabby care! How do they know? He’s all over you like a bad date, lol. I love that cat and I love my solicitous little furbabies too.

I braid my hair all the time, whether or not I leave it in is another story. LOL I have to agree that a messy side braid is a saving grace at times.
Also, I just want to warn you, catupuncture can get dicey. 😀 I know Tabs “Nightingale” will do you right, he’s so fine.

I am untalented when it comes to braiding. I can manage an everyday normal one but that’s it! I did braid it a few weeks ago though, just to shock my husband!

It’s so funny that you post this now because I was just having the craziest time this weekend trying to work out a braided style. In the end I just couldn’t get my mane to cooperate, but I think I’ll give it another go this weekend.
Also, what is on your eyes/lips today? So fresh and pretty 🙂
Kylie says
A side braid with a headband is my go-to “wet hair, I’m too lazy to do anything” do. I just do regular braids, however. Not talented enough for a fishtail or anything fancy.

Bummer, my hair isn’t quite long enough for a braid. Grow hair, grow!

Almost every day, one way or another! I have very long hair, so sometimes I will just braid it to keep it out of the way, but every time I go to ballet I braid it before pinning it up into a bun 🙂 And I go to ballet a lot…
Agata says
I think my hair is still a little too short to braid it but maybe not. When I was in elementary school I had super long hair, going past my butt and I used to braid my hair every single day 🙂
I hope you’re feeling fine, I am glad Tabby is taking such a good care of you!
Iris says
I’m glad your medical procedure went smoothly.
Oddly enough, I’ve never braided my hair before. I had short hair for the longest time. Even now with long hair, I’ve never had it braided as no one’s taught me how.

I also feel like braids can be a little young. But I think keeping it low and to the side helps a lot.
I wore a braid last week, and it’s just so easy.

I wear braids all the time! It’s pretty much my go-to style and it’s so automatic to me that I can braid without thinking about it, so that’s always convenient when I’m in a rush. Braiding also relaxes me… 🙂

Over a year I think!

Last week.. But I braid my hair a lot. I love me a sideways braid. I do prefer a fishtail braid though. I have so many layers it’s easier for me to do fishtail.

Before I read this I was just thinking that I should braid my hair. I agree that sometimes tight buns (hehe) can give headaches.
I hope your wrist is feeling better. I stayed home sick today, so I also have a cat nurse. There is currently an orange tabby on my chest.

Nurse Tabs is doing an awesome job! Lurvvies! <3

I braided my hair a couple times today at work when I was bored. My go-to look for pulling my hair back is a French braid.

I braid my hair all the time! A couple of times a week just for work and a lot at home when I need my hair out of my face. I feel that it’s definitely less stressful than a bun or ponytail- less tugging on the face/scalp, and also, the elastic band is down near the end of your hair. So if the tugging from the band causes breakage/damage, it’s happening down where your hair is older and already damaged anyway (if that makes sense). I used to have a short ring of broken hair where I would wear my tight ponytail in high school, and you could see the snapped-off bits fraying out whenever I wore my hair down! Braids solve all those problems… PLUS the cuteness factor! 😀

I braid my quite often, especially before going to sleep. Since I having rather thick and sometimes unruly hair, I find this one of the best ways to keep it from tangling and becoming a frightful mess come morning. Plus the beachy waves are a nice plus! 😉
