You guys are all my friends here, right?
That’s what I thought, so I can vent a little bit? I know you guys will listen to me.
Well, there’s only so much my poor husband can handle. As a mom and, honestly, I know that’s partly a cop-out excuse, an introvert, I don’t get out of the house as often as I’d like.
When I do finally peel off the sweatpants that have been plastered to my body since the day before and put on an outfit that doesn’t make me look like a hobo, I want to do something nice with my makeup too. That’s when I usually go for something in the “daytime glam” category, which is what I did today.
But first, the venting. I spent a lot of time on my makeup and hair today, and I even threw on a dress. Lookin’ hot, I was ready for a day out of the house, but my son had other plans. He’s two and a half right now, and I know it has got to be hard to be two. He’s got an amazing vocabulary, but when he’s upset or overwhelmed, he sometimes has a hard time getting his feelings out in a way that doesn’t involve screaming or crying.
We hit the town, but he was not having it. At the first store we went to he had a total meltdown, for reasons unbeknownst to me. I’m talking a screaming-thrashing-snot-flying-everywhere kind of meltdown.
Needless to say, with both of us in tears feeling so sorry for ourselves, we headed home… Just like that, our day out of the house was over.
I can’t even fathom how hard it would be to have two kids, but for those of you who don’t know, I’m having a baby girl in September! 🙂 Moms, please tell me it gets better and that having two isn’t hard at all. Lie to me if you must!
Now for the fun part of this post — the makeup! I recently did a little collaboration with Anna and Adia on how we rock pink eyeshadow, and I went with a really bright look. They did really pretty, more wearable looks, so I was feeling inspired to use some similar colors.
I decided to break out my Naked 3 Palette because it’s full of those gorgeous rosy/mauve tones I was looking to use.
I’ll tell you quickly how I got this look. I started by using ‘Limit’ (a light mauve-y rose) in the crease, then deepened it up a bit using ‘Nooner’ (mid toned mauve-y rose).
Next, all I did was pat ‘Burnout’ (rosy champagne) all over the lid and ‘Liar’ (darker rosy champagne) on the outer half of the lid. Then, instead of liner, I used an angled brush and pat ‘Dark Heart’ (dark brown) along the lash line to add a little definition, and to define the lower lash line I used a pencil brush and dragged both ‘Limit’ and ‘Nooner’ along the line.
I finished by using ‘Strange’ (light shimmery cream) to highlight the inner corners and under my brows.
It was super easy, and I think it turned out pretty! Let me tell you what I used for the rest of my face.
- Foundation — Loreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation
- Concealer — Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer
- Powder — Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder
- Blush & Bronzer — Benefit Cheekathon Palette Blush & Bronzer Palette (review here) I use Hoola & Rockateur
- Highlighter — Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal
- Lippie — Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Color + Primer in Sugar Pop
I also wanted to give you guys a quick mini review on the Clinique gloss because I love it! The color is perfect for everyday. It’s a nice rosy nude that gives the perfect amount of color to the lips, and it makes your lips look so plump and kissable. It’s amazing! I highly suggest giving it a try!
Thanks, everyone, for letting me feel sorry for myself for a little bit. I know everything will be okay. There’s always going to be some hard days, and this was just one of them!
What are your favorite products to use for a daytime glam look?

Beautiful look! I love the Naked3 palette.
Almost every mom has endured multiple melt-down days. ((((Hugs)))) Mom and kid both do the best they can, and some days you just have to call it quits and go home.
My second child was much easier than my first. He had a much mellower personality than his older brother. It’s much easier taking care of the second baby. You’ve already got diapering, feeding, and what to do when they’re ill down pat. You can literally do it all while (almost) asleep. 🙂

Thanks Rachel! Ah I’m so glad to hear it was easier for you the second time around, it gives me hope! Haha 🙂

Feel free to vent anytime, dear. I just found out that my newly purchased car (read: used car) needs a $1509 AC repair. So I’m feeling the blues. Think I’ll pull out this palette this weekend & make myself pretty while I go to the mechanic & pay an arm & a leg for a new AC. I’ll be crying on the inside but cute on the outside, right? Love the look you created! Not sure it’ll be easier with two but it’ll def get easier. And if she’s a girlie girl who lurves makeup like her mom, double score!!
Jen Clark says
Oh my gosh I am so sorry! That seriously sucks, hopefully that’s the last repair you need to make for awhile. I hope she loves makeup like me, how fun would that be! 🙂 Good luck with everything!!

You look beautiful, Jen. A really lovely look – and that gloss is really flattering. Is it a stickier or more watery formula?
Do not fear about meltdown days. I reckon even us without kids have ’em. So when kids decide to go bananas at the shops/in the street, I always feel so sorry for the mummy who’s having to deal with it!! You can do it. And I’m told Round Two is easier by my friends with multiple children!

Thanks Becky! It’s probably more on the sticky end of the spectrum, I like that though because I feel like they last longer. Haha I always used to feel bad for the Mom’s with screaming kids too, crazy that I am one now! Oh well, good thing I love him to death 🙂

Awwww man, being a mom sounds touuuuugh. I don’t think I could do it. So kudos to all you moms out there doing what you do!
I really love your look, the UD Naked 3 Palette is my favorite Naked palette, such pretty shades. Your skin looks flawless by the way. You are one hot momma.
Jen Clark says
It is tough for sure, but I’ll be cliche and say it’s the greatest thing in the world! 🙂 Thank you so much, I’m glad I tricked you because my skin is far from flawless haha!
Michaela says
Hi Jen. First of all, congrats on your soon-to-be addition. I can see she’ll be ready in the makeup department. I like this post because I just happened to have the Palette 3 of UD, and I love the subtle pink look you created. I’ll be experimenting this soon.
Jen Clark says
Thank you so much Michaela! Haha yes she will definitely have tons to play with 🙂 Have fun playing around with the palette!

Pretty eye and lip look! Naked 3 is one of my favorite palettes! I like to pat Trick the glittery one in the center of my eye. I always get compliments when I wear this palette. Many moons ago. My boy/girl twins would get cranky when try were tired so I always made sure they had naps before venturing out. Removing them from the environment and saying get yourself together or no insert whatever they like, might help. I also brought things for them to do or snack on whenever we were out. I don’t think the ignoring them tactic works. They need help with learning limits and controlling their frustrations. I never spanked my kids but I also didn’t put up with screaming tantrums. After a while all I had to do was give them a look and they straighten up. Mama don’t play that, lol.
Jen Clark says
I’ll have to try using trick in the center of the lid, that sounds gorgeous! Thanks so much for all the advice, I love hearing what works for other mom’s in that situation! 🙂

Congrats on having a little girl on the way!
Just wanted to let you know that, because of your tutorial a while back where you used the Pixi blue eyeshadow palette with some browns, I had to get the Pixi blue eyeshadow palette. I have brown eyes and did more of a blue and green liner look with the shadows and two UD liners I have. Anyway, the Pixi palette shadows seem to need something under them to help “grip” and I used the trusty MAC paint pot in Painterly. Worked fine, but I do want to check out the NYC product you used. Loving having the blues. Thanks for the enabling. 😉
Rosemary says
NYX! Not NYC! Sorry!
Jen Clark says
Thanks Rosemary! I’m so excited! I’m so glad you got the palette! Yes it definitely works best with a base, it seems like using a white base makes the color pop really well, so give that a try and hopefully they’ll stick a little better for you 🙂

Just wanted to let you know love the way you did your eyes and love the lip color! Things can get easier with the second. I found they tend to keep each other occupied!
Jen Clark says
Thank you! I’m sure Kai will love entertaining the new little one 🙂

I really love the look you created. I’ve put away my Naked 3 palette because any look I try to recreate doesn’t seem to work for me but this one might so I’m going to bring it out again and hopefully find the time to put on makeup. I’m turning 40 this year and I have two girls. My first, that I had when I was 30, is a real angel. So when I got pregnant with my second, I wasn’t too fussed. Unfortunately, the second one is a real monster compared to the first. She is also 2 and a half and I’m having the hardest time in my life. Tantrums, clinginess, major meltdowns everywhere, all the time! The doctor says kids do outgrow the tantrums and all, but some last til they re 4. We just gotta hang in there. But for you, the good news is, if the first one was trouble, you might get a real angel in your next one! and since they’re closer in age, it will simply feel like extended toddlerhood. That sounds better than having sent one to school and then starting over from scratch. It will be great for you. I can feel it.
Jen Clark says
Thank you! Some products really take some playing around with to get to look right, I hope you can get it to work out for you! I’m so sorry your second one is giving you a run for your money, hopefully they make it through the phase sooner rather than later. Luckily my Kai is overall really great, besides the occassional tantrum and not ever wanting to sleep alone, he’s an angel, so hopefully my baby girl is sweet like him 🙂 Thank you for being so encouraging!
Tatiana says
Vent away dear. So many of my child’s tantrums/melt downs are permanently seared into my memory. They all have those meltdown days. Come to think of it, there are still meltdown days as adults, but they just expressed in a different manner. You look gorgeous. Beautiful eye look and that lippie is just perfect.
Jen Clark says
Haha you’re so right, I probably lose it way more than he does, it just comes out a little differently than his do. And thank you so much!
Jean says
Beautiful look. You are one hot mama.
Jen Clark says
Thank you so much Jean! 🙂
