Win a $50 Sephora e-gift card!

I actually have to wash my makeup brushes today because I haven’t washed them since before I left for the hospital seven weeks ago.

[WOW!]

Yeah! But I haven’t been wearing a lot of makeup, and it’s weird — when you don’t wear a lot, you kind of get used to it. I mean, the other day I did full-on makeup, like foundation, concealer, brows, eyes, cheeks, lips — the whole kit and caboodle — and when I looked in the mirror, I was just like, “Who is this girl?”

Maybe I’m just used to seeing myself looking really tired…

Today I wanted to try another look with the Chanel Summer 2016 collection I mentioned yesterday. I’ve used all of the products so far, but there’s a green eyeshadow in the eyeshadow quad I really want to play with.

Also, in baby-related stuff, because a baby runs my life these days, I need to figure out how to collapse her stroller so I can get it in and out of my Mazda. And unlike my dad and my husband, I will actually read the instruction booklet instead of standing there for two hours grumbling, “I can’t figure this thing out!”

I do also plan to do some weekend-y stuff, like maybe rent a movie and leave the house at some point… Whatever you’re doing, I hope it’s fun. Good luck in the giveaway. 🙂

The only color correcting concealer I use is yellow to combat and brighten my purple under circles, but that’s about it.

  22. Suzanne says:

I’ve tried the Sephora lipstick-trying-on app, but it was so buggy, prone to crashing, and didn’t give a good image of what it actually looks like on me (I tested it with several lippies I already own).

Yes, I use a peachy color corecting concealer for my dark circles !
It’s the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer in SX9 !

I’ve tried a peach concealer for my insane under eye bags, but I haven’t been to impressed yet.

Prince was such a great icon/idol in the music industry. So sad that he has left still young and had so much more to show to his fans. He will definitely be missed! <3

I have had to wear stage makeup quite a few times. The foundation I had to wear was so thick! I got home and had to wash my face like four times! It was not very fun.

  29. BJW says:

I generally type without looking. Actually, I think I rarely look, so I guess I have pretty good skills. As far as Martinell’s goes, if I wanted something bubbly, I’d want something boozy too.

  30. Laura Sorvillo says:

Now that I’m done chuckling over some of your suggestions for comments I can leave one as I can’t type with both hands let alone focus on anything else.My grandpa ate with a fork and spoon(how else to twirl pasta?). I’ve never used a color correcting concealer, can’t decide which way to go and end up not getting one.I have so many favorite Prince songs but if pushed I would have to say Little Red Corvette. The one time I used a virtual makeup app…well,it wasn’t pretty,it looked more like a walking dead zombie app.As for Martinelli’s Sparkling Apple Cider I’m a big yes on that. Thanks so much for the chance to win and for an original comment the kids assure me I am,in fact, a cool mom if I buy pizza for dinner.Hmmm…

  31. Rach says:

Fave Prince songs (I cannot choose) = “Raspberry Beret” and “I Wanna Be Your Lover.” And touch typing totally saved my skin in undergrad when I was trying to transcribe projects quickly!

  39. Hollie says:

I def need to pay attention while I’m typing, otherwise I wind up with a babbled mess.. I feel so bad about the passing of Prince.. I was starting high school when Purple Rain came out. I had a ton of posters of him on my wall. Anyone remember Tiger Beat??! Those were the days. Life was so easy. It so true that “youth is wasted on the young”

  40. Dora J Crow says:

I Promise ur not the only one trying to get strollers collapsed correctly. When my sissy had her 1st? I swear we would get so irritated we would just throw it in the parking lot and then slam it in the back of her Toyota Highlander. I swear, even WITH directions, they are ridiculously hard to open & close. DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED w the stupid high chair, play pen & baby carseats I bought for my house. Omg. Car seat made the child look like an S&M bondage baby when I tried to fasten it, as did the high chair. Sheesh, reckon it’s a good thing I only have 4-legged hairy cat children, right? LOL

  41. Madeline says:

I’ve used a salmony concealer for my undereye darkness for a while. I really want to try the new Urban Decay Naked correctors but they haven’t launched in the UK yet.

  44. Irene says:

Well for pasta… Or noodle soup… You gotta use both a fork and spoon! The fork for pasta and the spoon to twirl, and also for broth, and also to settle all the yummy soup bits to create the perfect bite.

  45. Kim Pincombe Cole says:

It’s so hard to pick my favorite Prince song. But I’ve been walking around singing ‘Purple Rain’ for the past 2 days…
And I’ve worn stage makeup when I was in high school show choir!

  46. Amanda K says:

What kind of stroller do you have? My first baby is coming in two months. I’m looking at a Graco all in one travel system that collapses when you pull the red strap.

I love apple juice more than cider but the sugar content is high.

All the time – mainly the orange one though.

Favorite Prince song? Starfish and coffee is my favorite, but I adore all of his music/songs.

Do you know anyone who eats with a fork and a spoon at the same time?
I do when I’m eating spaghetti.

  50. Lindsay says:

my favorite prince song is probably “kiss” or maybe “if i was your girlfriend”

  51. Jenn says:

I use the becca under eye corrector, but other than that I’ve always stayed far away from color correcting because I don’t see the point in the extra step. Either way, you have to use full coverage products on top to cover up a color that is not your skin color! Haha

My favorite Prince song (one of my favorite songs ever) is Kiss!

  53. Nicole Anderson says:

No haha to this day I still have to watch the keyboard when I type lol xxoo

  66. Ambritt says:

I recently bought the urban decay pink concealer. I like it so far but I’m not really into the whole color correcting thing that much.

  67. Karan Jones says:

I would rather buy makeup than shoes 😉

  68. Lulu says:

I have never used color correcting concealers. Now that I have a little baby I should start concealing my dark circles)

  69. Ren says:

Well, let’s see how well I can touch type: I’m normally preset foo as long as I can glance down evert now and then, but if I fear one jet off, then it all foes to crap.

Translation: I’m normally pretty good as long as I can glance down every now and then, but If I get one letter off, then it all goes to crap.

  70. Jennifer says:

I have been trying the color correcting fad. Debating on buying the Benefit Erase Paste.

  71. Lynn T. says:

i have to glance down here and there while typing. I wish i didn’t have to. I think it’s also the temptation to look down.

  72. Bex D says:

I can touch type. I did a few courses when I was made redundant just over 6 years ago and got my current job from doing them 💻

  73. Andrea Amy says:

I’m so so so so sad about Prince 🙁 I love lots of his songs, I grew up listening to him! My favourite songs are Cream, and Diamonds and Pearls. Such a legend, he will be missed.

  74. Andrea says:

Have you ever worn theater or stage makeup for a performance?

  76. LaTanya says:

    Yes, I can touch type

  77. Terri says:

I love that you’re being real about life with a baby. I think some bloggers just make it seem like everything is perfect all the time and that’s just so much pressure. My kids are older now but I still struggle to find time
    to make myself look good.

  78. Janetta says:

Favorite Prince song is Diamonds and Pearls. RIP Price

  79. Lisa Foster says:

I’m a whiz at touch typing. I used to work as a police dispatcher, and you had to touch type to keep up with things. It’s been a lot of years since I did that job, but I can still type fast without looking at my hands.

  80. Leona says:

I use the Coastal Scents Bright Eyed corrector in ivory, which is a decent peach corrector, but also somewhat drier….and I’ve used the Sephora virtual make up artist to try out different lip colors.

  81. Justine says:

I’m not big into color correcting but I don’t mind a bit of pink under the eyes or green for redness.

  82. NFJ says:

    Favorite Prince song?
I was the first person in the world to have a copy of the “Diamonds and Pearls” CD. Even had it before Prince, his Royal Highness himself! SO for me, my favorite Prince song/CD will always be “Diamonds and Pearls”!

I was living in Hollyweird as an actress/model in the early 1990’s and dating a WB Records Studio executive, and I was in his office on the day the first CD’s were delivered to him. Even today, (though I’d never admit it to my Love), it is still probably one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten from a beau! For a very few hours I felt like the most beautiful girl in the world, being the only woman who had the CD I felt like Prince was singing just to me!

  83. Kara says:

    I love Marinelli’s sparkling cider!

  84. Heather G says:

Yes I can touch type (@80wpm) and I can write shorthand @90wpm!

  85. Undamaris says:

I can touch type in two languages 🙂

  86. Carrie says:

I can touch type without looking at the keys. I work in an office and get lots of practice in doing it. 🙂 Thanks for the chance to win. Have a good weekend!

  87. TrippyPixie says:

I’m pretty decent at touch typing. My one classmate commented that I should become a courtroom stenographer.

  88. Lisa Brown says:

    Q) Martinelli’s Sparkling Apple Cider? A) Yes!

  89. Aimee says:

*sigh* I can’t even properly mourn Prince as I’m still in mourning over David Bowie!!

  90. Liz says:

    Yeah. I can touch type.

  91. Jessica Harrison says:

I’ve only used a green concealer once to color correct a blemish on my face. Aside from that, no crazy all-over-the-face color correcting for this girl. Ain’t nobody got time for that! 🙂

  92. Colleen Boudreau says:

I haven’t used color correcting concealers, but I’d like to try some.

  93. Marissa says:

I use the UD color corrector in peach every day for my dark circles. My fave Prince song is Purple Rain!

  94. MS says:

Can’t live without color correctors !! Peach all the way

  95. Sanam says:

My favorite Prince song is “1999”.

  96. Sandy P says:

  97. Sophie says:

I loved your Bookstore Babe post yesterday!

My dad had me doing MasterType on a Commodore 64 when I was 7 – end result is that I can touch type over 100 wpm. Thanks dad!

  106. Yes, I can touch type. I had to learn how to type 35 words a minute as a requirement for graduation from high school but this was also like 26 years ago. I amaze all the teens and young adults at my job because I don’t look at the keys.

  107. Marlena Fine says:

Color correcting concealers – some shades/formulas are helpful (Bobbi Brown, Becca, some green concealers for severe acne, etc.) but I still think the concept is getting gimmicky/overrated.

Almost all Filipinos/1st gen. Filipinos I know eat with both a fork and spoon at the same time! <3

  108. Sandy says:

Hi Karen, I have enough trouble using regular concealers, I wouldn’t touch color correcting ones. I hope you can figure out how to collapse your stroller without too much trouble. It’s probably got a small leaver you could release with your foot. I hope you do something fun this weekend. I am dying to swatch those new Nars Lip Covers!

  109. Tracy Robertson says:

I can touch type, but but when I need a key that I don’t use that often like say the + or the %, I have to look down to find it.

Ah, Prince, so sad! I love When Doves Cry and can’t help but to sing along loudly whenever I hear it.

  110. Sabs says:

“Kiss” is definitely my favorite Prince song! Thanks so much! What’s yours?

  111. Rachel says:

There’s one guy who is always joking at my workplace. I only believe about half of what he says and the rest is for fun. He is the one who broke the news of Prince’s death to me and I genuinely did not believe him. It took going home and seeing it everywhere online to finally believe!

  112. Cindy says:

Yes I can touch type!! I used to use Physician’s Formula Conceal Rx for redness but now I use Clinique redness solutions daily protective base – it’s green and once you put makeup on over it it DOES. NOT. MOVE. This is an HG product for me!

  113. Wren says:

I used to love wearing stage makeup. I actually regret that we don’t get more chances to do ourselves up crazy like that in the day-to-day as adults…

  114. Kwmechelle says:

I eat with a fork & spoon often. But I can’t touch type. Was supposed to take that class my senior year of high school but I transferred schools my senior year & that class was full at my new school. Hope you were able to get out today 🙂

  115. Jan says:

    Hi Karen,
I’m enjoying reading about you and Connor.

  116. I can touch type, but NOT properly. I have my own weirdo system!

  117. Cherie says:

    Purple Rain. RIP Prince..

  118. Marisela Bennett says:

Oh yes I can type without looking at the key board I payed attention in this class that’s for sure lol!

  119. Christiana M. says:

I use Erase Paste and Lemon Aid from Benefit to color correct under my eyes!

  120. kristen says:

Yes, I can type without looking! Good old keyboarding classes in 9th grade 😀

  121. Alexis says:

I’m still mourning Prince’s death. I didn’t realize how much of a fan I was till I listened to all my favorite songs and I have many. The one I can rock at all times, “If I Was a Your Girlfriend”
    RIP 🙁

  122. Karen says:

Prince’s passing has left me feeling like my youth has passed….his music was such a big part of that. My favorite song of his is “I Would Die 4 U”. My college friends and I always acted out the song when we listened to it, so I think of it as an important part of those years.

  123. Nathasja says:

Hey Keren! I used to be able to touch type like a champ.. you know, in the days of Nokia’s (siiigh, I miss my trusty 3200), Razr’s and just generally the phones where you had to press a number several times to get a letter. Yeah, I was queen of blind texting then. Now I’m lost without my “haptic feedback” (aka the vibration the keys make on smartphones) and auto correct. Also, my favorite Prince song is Musicology or more old school is Raspberry Beret. I’m so sad that the world has lost his talent, energy and funk. Too soon 🙁 I hope you’ll have a good weekend!

  124. Terri says:

I’m a decent at touch typing. I took computer in high school, and we had to pass a touch typing test (I did not pass on my first try).

Also, always yes to Martinelli’s Sparkling Apple Cider 🙂

  125. Emily says:

I have never used a virtual makeover app, but I think it would be interesting!

  126. maria says:

fave Prince song is Purple Rain

  127. BlackAsphodel says:

Can you touch type (type without looking at the keys)? Nope, don’t have nearly enough practice on the keyboard.

  128. Anissa - Boukra says:

Do you know anyone who eats with a fork and a spoon at the same time?

BOTH MY PARENTS DO! They eat spaghetti that way, so like rolling it with your fork by using the spoon as a guide. I’m the only one that eats spaghetti with a knife and fork.

  129. Nikki says:

    Yes, I can touch type!

    Favorite Prince song: Adore

    Connor Claire is absolute adorbs!!

  130. Susan T. says:

I eat ramen with fork and a spoon. Is that weird? Favorite Prince songs: When Doves Cry, Take Me With You and Kiss. Your story remind me of when my best friend had her first baby and we were trying to figure out how to put the car seat in the back seat of my SUV. It was so complicated! Even though the instructions had pictures it took us forever. It was in the middle of winter and there were seriously gale force freezing wind gusts making the back seat into a wind tunnel. (Baby was safe and snug bundled up in the stroller.) We ended up laughing so hard we were crying!

  131. Susan Christy says:

I learned to type in 1974 on an IBM Selectric typewriter and still use a typewriter on occasion at work. I type around 90 words a minute if my typing includes numbers – they slow me down.

  132. Jennifer says:

So much Prince sadness and I have so many favorites I’m not sure what to say.

If you rent a movie-skip Creed. We rented it last week and we were all pretty disappointed with it. It was really slow and a couple of things were unbelievable. I know it’s a movie but still.

If there’s one thing I don’t miss about the baby years besides the exhaustion–it’s collapsing the damn stroller. Good luck and may the force be with you.

I can touch type and pretty darn well. My 3rd grader is also practicing in school and finds it astonishing that anyone can type more than one word per minute without looking. I have explained that the only way you can type that much if is you don’t have to look, but he hasn’t quite figured that out yet.

There are so many great Prince songs that it’s hard to pick favorites (though 7, When Doves Cry & Love) are definitely on the list, but I can certainly name a few favorite albums: Purple Rain; The Love Symbol; 3121; & The Hits/The B-Sides. There will never be another….

Pretty sure in no time at all you’ll be a pro at getting Connor in and out of her car seat, stroller and then high chair.
Glad to hear you’re starting to become more mobile with her. Even though trips with baby usually take 50% longer, it’s good for your constitution to get out and about.

  170. Lisa says:

I can touch type, but incorrectly or not in the proper way that is taught. I’m trying to grow out of it. This reminds me of something that happened in high school. When I asked the librarian for help while on the computer, she saw the way I was typing. So instead of answering/helping me, she asked if I took typing lessons. Thinking back, that was kinda rude. She also gave me the side eye… Thank goodness high school is long done with!!!

  183. Lesley says:

I had to take a typing course in high school and now am so glad that I learned to touch type. The only thing that drives me crazy is when I type something (correctly) that is unusual and it gets “auto-corrected” into something that is totally bonkers. Grrrrr!!

I’ve found pink and peach to make them worse ad yellow seemed to help so I just gave up on them after that.

Oh my goodness, your stroller story reminded me of an incident I had with my first baby. He was around 3 months old, and I decided we’d brave the mall by ourselves. We’d only used the stroller with Daddy present, but I was sure I knew what I was doing. We enjoyed a 1 1/2-2 hour trip at the mall, shopping for baby clothes, window shopping, etc. and he had been so well-behaved. I knew he’d be getting hungry soon, so we left and headed to the parking lot. I loaded his car seat into the vehicle, and returned to the trunk to fold up the stroller. Imagine my horror when I could not, for the life of me, get that damn stroller to collapse!!! After about 10 minutes struggling with the stupid thing, the baby began to cry, and so did I. 😄 I broke out in a cold sweat, kicked the stroller, and threw the whole stinking thing in the trunk- thank God I had an SUV with enough room! If not, it would’ve been wedged in the front passenger seat! I made sure I practiced closing the stroller about 100 times before going out alone with the baby again!

It took me a second to figure it out too, and to this day my mom thinks I’m crazy for being able to close it so fast.

Hey there pretty lady! 😊 SO… two quick answers: Kiss for favorite Prince song, and a big yes to typing without looking… unless I’m on a touch screen. on a real keyboard I can type my pants off, but when I get ahead of myself or go too quickly while not looking at an on-screen version everything starts getting auto corrected into random gibberish! I think it’s mostly because when I go to hit the space bar, 75% of the time I hit the letter N by mistake and then all hell breaks loose! 😒

oh, and one last answer: color correctors don’t ever seem to work out for me. I’ve tried to use green to chill out the redness on my cheeks but I always just look, well, green. oh well! haha I actually started using Blanc de Chanel as a base instead, and even though it’s just white in color, (and then translucent, like lotion), it really helps with the red factor! woohoo!

Loved martinellis as a kid. We still give to our kids during the holidays while the adults have wine and champagne so they can feel fancy too!!

  286. Dominique Grindholmen says:

I tried using the sephora virtual lip color matching. It worked ok but I think some of the colors did not look the same when I swatched them in store.

Yes, I eat with a fork and a spoon when I eat spagetti or tagitelle dishes.

This weekend we had a hen part for one of my friends and it turned out really well. She was so scared of having to do something embarrassing infront of people but we just had a really nice time.

I love color correctors. I have some redness issues but I hate wearing full coverage foundation. I use one for dark circles too.

I may have already commented but I seriously can’t remember and don’t want to miss out!
I recently re-discovered a favourite foundation and I can’t believe it took me so long! Estee Lauder Double Wear is THE BEST!! I have tried so many foundations and have never really loved a particular one…until now! It goes on easy, is a nice buildable coverage, and it doesn’t go all splotchy on me! LOVE IT (and love your blog!)

  295. Julene says:

I touch type on a daily basis, since it’s the main component of my job. I took typing as a “bird” course in high school and played piano as a kid, which both seemed to have been of some use!
I use a colour corrector on a daily basis for my dark under eye circles and darkness around my mouth. I’ve been using the MAC highlighter pen in Peach Lustre steadily for some time now, but based on a high end/low end comparison review by Jackie Aina on YouTube, I tried the orange colour corrector from L.A. Girl……thank you for keeping pennies in my wallet! Lol

I’m badly in need of a peach undereye concealer. Probably the UD Naked. And brushes, oh boy. I’ve discovered that I have never really ACTUALLY used a good brush. Like one that doesn’t scratch or shed. So I’m debating brands and types of those.
