** THE GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED **
This giveaway is closed, and the winner has been contacted (CONGRATULATIONS, KATHLEEN!!!), but check back next Saturday for another giveaway.
So. Much. Baby jail right meow.
I hope you’ve done some exciting things this week that you’d be so kind as to graciously share with me because I’m serious — the highlight of my days usually involves a quick shower OR a quick 30-minute emergency sneak away trip to Pier 1, See’s Candies (I’ve eaten about two pounds of chocolate this month), Marshalls, Old Navy or Target, during which time El Hub will watch the baby, because those stores are close to home.
Those little daily jaunts, plus the MBB interns and Netflix, have been my only breaks, as of late, when I’m not attending to Connor Claire.
It just gets a tad monotonous is all, and by “tad,” I mean ridiculously monotonous, LOL!
Thank goodness for the MBB interns. Those ladies are incredibly talented, aren’t they? Have you been following their posts? These have been some of my faves…

Sounds like you need a getaway.

Rena Perdue says
I am a make up junkie!!
Tatiana says
The MBB interns are fantastic. I’ve loved so many of their posts. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
Tracy says
Usually change lipgloss nude by day/ berry burgundy by night?
Suzanne G says
I have a brother-in-law who writes in–a capital letter, then lower case letter and so on throughout any post and I have to say it drives me crazy. I am not sure why but that annoys me more than people who use all caps. CrAzY!
alice says
I don’t know anyone who writes in all caps but there is a coworker who uses lots of colors in her emails. I think she highlights words and phrases to call attention to those words and phrases, but I still can’t figure why she’s calling attention to those words. She slays me.
Colleen Boudreau says
I stick my foot in my mouth all the time! I tend to not really have a filter. I try to just laugh it off.
RAEANNE MADISON says
I absolutely love the interns! I hope you’ll consider keeping them on for a few more months so you can enjoy even more baby time… What a blessing to work from home and be with your girl! (And Tabs!)
Meg says
I was suppose to answer Macy’s but we don’t have Macy’s here in Manila lol. It’s H&M for me, their store signs are huge!
Hope you and the baby are doing well, Karen. <3
Jenn @ Fairest Run of All says
Sometimes I go from no makeup TO makeup because of my mood!
Anita says
I never change my makeup throughout the day, I would never have time for that. The most I would do is reapply lip color or undereye concealer.
Vanessa says
I love seeing your pictures of Connor Claire. She is so super cute. Smother her with hugs and kisses for us fan club members please.
Daniela says
Happy weekend!
I went to the theater yesterday, it was really a great play.
The last time I was able to touch my feet with my head is a couple of years ago when I was doing yoga on a regular basis.
Kristen says
I’d have to say those vibrating make-up wands were pretty gimmicky. 🙂
Kristen says
* mascara wands!
Maria says
The MBB interns are doing a fantastic job! I didn’t think that I’d enjoy their posts as much as I have.
Allison says
When I think of big, fancy store signs I think of one most of your readers will be unfamiliar with – Honest Ed’s in Toronto. We’d drive by it when I was a kid, on our way to visit my grandmother. When I was little I had no idea what kind of store it was, but I was sure it was completely awesome, given the over-the-topness of the signage. In reality it was just a (now defunct) bargain store. My inner 10-year old is sad the store and it’s ridiculous signs are gone.
onyinye Elochukwu says
I would love to win this
Jennifer Pham says
Nope, not much of a storyteller – I tend to build up and then say “that’s it.”
Lindsey says
Haha my dad writes in all caps all the time! Texts, emails, grocery list… ALL CAPS
Kiss & Make-up says
Awwww, well, luckily this rinse-repeat phase will pass eventually. But yes, in the meantime thank god for the interns 🙂
As for the caps question, YES! My mom tends to write in caps because ‘she thinks it’s easier to read’. I’ve explained multiple times now that caps equal screaming on the internet, lol. I think I’m finally starting to get through.
Mickey says
Thank you MBB interns! Definitely liked reading all your posts and seeing what are your likes and dislikes! Depending on my mood I may want to kick up my make up a notch by adding eye shadow. I find that it’s more dependent on time than mood. 😉
Jennifer says
Well, at least you’re able to sneak out for a few minutes for candy, that’s something!
Great job with the interns. They’re all doing wonderfully, I especially like Adia’s posts.
I wish I had something exciting to tell you about. Alas, I’ve been working and when I’m not at the day job, I’m working outside in the yard and trying to get my gardens ready for planting. Oh and cleaning up a google “nofollow” link mess on my website 🙁
Here are some TV show suggestions for Netflix. Keep in mind, I have the soul of a 13-year-old girl so some of my suggestions may seem ridiculous to you. Love me anyway.
House of Cards (Kevin Spacey!)
Grace and Frankie (Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin)
Revenge
Once Upon a Time
Midsomer Murders
Documentary Now!
Pretty Little Liars
The Secret Circle
Weeds
Borgia
Frasier
Haven
Eureka
Vampire Diaries
The Originals
Dallas
Salem—this one really gives me the creeps so I caution you. If I’m home alone watching it, I make sure all the doors and windows are locked.
Nadine says
I am not a good storyteller but I love to read that it’s giveaway time 🙂
Barb says
The MBB interns have been fantastic. I change my look during the day by switching out lipstick. I always have about 5 different shades and textures in my bag!
Agata says
You did a great job choosing the interns, I really like the variety the bring to MBB!
My week hasn’t been very exciting at all…I went to Sephora on Wed but they didn’t have any new products I wanted to look at so it was disappointing!
Have a good weekend and I hope you get to do something a little fun!
Carly says
Oy vey… the dumbest makeup gimmick I’ve used of late is probably that Too Faced Selfie Powder palette. Cute concept, but totally useless.
Kendra Miller says
Thank you for all of your interesting/informative posts! I just found your blog and am loving it.
Teresa Luong says
Not that great of a storyteller, I mumble a lot!
Michelle says
I don’t think I’m a good storyteller. I tend to get straight to the point, so I leave out all the frills lol
Trillina Palemi says
I am not a good storyteller :-/
Amanda Hess says
I’ve been stuck in glasses for 3 months due to eye issues, but I finally got to order contacts! I’m super excited for the makeup I will finally be able to wear. I’ve been missing it!
Lisa says
I’m so glad you’re able to get out even if it’s for short jaunts! So good for you to have a little break.
I think the dumbest makeup gimmick has to be the peel off lip tints that are so popular in Asia – I almost bought one until I found out people were actually peeling off parts of their lips and injuring themselves! Yikes! I’ll stick to my partially-effective lip tints, thanks.
Janetta says
I sometimes change my lipstick in the middle of the day. I love lipsticks!
Jennifer says
I write in caps all the time-I have since high school. I used to hate writing in cursive so as soon as I was able to all caps it was!
Hilary says
Watch Parenthood on netflix! It’s funny and seems to be pretty accurate in how it depicts parenting!
Nicole says
Sephora is the first sign that comes to mind. Big surprise there lol.
Melissa says
I just seen the newest picture of Connor, She is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen! My heart melted! I hope her colic is getting better! I know it’s hard at first being a new Mommy but Girlfriend You are Rockin it. ? Just take it day by day and remember it gets better! Tell Tabs I love him. I love You too and so love your blog. It’s like my addiction and always brightens my day! ???
susan smoaks says
i have changed my makeup during the day because my moods are changing. why not?
Sandy P says
I agree that the MBB interns are fantastic! Each one has a different take on things too. So much fun to read. Just got an email from Sephora that for the next few days I can get 10% off an online order. And if you have not watched Revenge on Netflix I totally recommend it. Next stop—-Sephora online.
Amoure Jones says
Happy Saturday,
Dumbest makeup gimmick? Those things you suck your lips into to make them bigger. Just seems like a waste to go through so much pain.
TrippyPixie says
Since I currently teach history, I hope that I’m a good storyteller, ha ha!
buckycatt says
K, T & CC – I think spring has finally sprung in MT, so mixing days of dark lipstick w more & more days of lighter lipgloss. Japanese Spring Cremesheen glass by MAC is fabulous!
jeanie says
am the worst storyteller ever, unfortunately! Good skill to have
BJW says
Public speaking is a huge part of what I do for a living, and I rarely stick my foot in my mouth in that context. It’s in the unscripted, private conversations when the foot goes into the mouth. I tend not to say really stupid or awkward things. But I can rub people the wrong way because I’m blunt, so I have to watch out for that. I’m sure I’ve rubbed someone the wrong way in the last week.
Laura says
I’ve added makeup to my look if where I am going calls for it.
Chelsea says
Love the interns! I’m trying to figure out what to buy from Sephora for the 15% off! I’m annoyed because a few days after I used my Ulta coupon, they got in a new product I’ve been wanting -_-
Bertha says
I hate the makeup powders that are like “it’s an instagram filter in a compact!” #nope
Steve Weber says
big fancy store signs = Armani Xchange
Amy Z. says
People who write in ALL CAPS is annoying.
Mary W says
I have been sucked in to visiting those stores that have hawkers outside touting the power of their “amazing” products. So I go in and get a sample applied and listen to their spiel and get disgusted. It’s all so fake. They claim gold will work miracles or diamond dust or some other wild idea. I never buy any of their $300 jars of creams but I do sometimes kick myself for wasting time with this idiots. No more!
Kara says
Neiman Marcus comes to mind for big fancy store signs.
JackieC says
I typically will touch up my makeup on a really long day. Changing it completely is just way too much work for me and I find that that the second application doesn’t turn out as fresh looking as my morning application.
Icequeen81 says
I don’t remember ever trying to put my foot in my mouth. But now I can’t see my belly button, I have to ask EL hub if he sees it . or if is popping out. I think that popping out starts maybe in 7th or 8th-month pregnancy. Im starting to wear dresses now I don’t feel suffocated with them
Frances C says
I am not a good storyteller, which is a shame because I have some good stories.
Domi says
I miss your posts but your interns are doing an amazing work with their different take on things. I did order products from Nabla, I am waiting for them to arrive. I had heard of the brand but that post was the last push for me to place an order.
I don’t know if they have it in your area but I am keen on trying mother and infant yoga/pilates classes when I become a mother. Partly training to restore the abdominal muscles in a safe way from the pregancy and to be in a group of adults, with a lot of infants, seems really appealing! I like the idea of training with a baby on the mat and I have heard that many of the instructors are really good at making the class so you have eye contact with your infant during the class. Of course you need to be cleared by a doctor.
I think the massive amount of colour correcting products are becoming pretty gimmicky now.
Erin says
For me, the dumbest makeup gimmick is those “self-adjusting” foundations/BB cremes. They NEVER match!!! Just give me a shade that matches!
I am supposed to be going to to 30th bday party tonight… it’s so cold out though. I am not very enthusiastic about it to be honest!!
Karynk says
My comment is re baby wrangling. When Connor is still very small is the ‘easy’ time to go where you want and do what you want, before she develops real opinions about how to spend her time. She will be perfectly content to go to Marshall’s or Sephora’s or wherever, as long as she is with you. Most tinies will snooze happily in their car seat- do you have a Snap and Go? If she won’t sleep in her car seat, pop her in a baby carrier and do whatcha want! I’m a mama to two and a nanny to even more, so take advantage of this time when you are not locked into a nap schedule!
Sanam says
People always tell me that I’m a good storyteller. I make accents & sound to enhance my stories.
Lydia B. says
I am (very openly) a terrible storyteller. I get caught up in minor details and go off on “bunny trails.” A 30 second story turns into a 15-minute tale.
Kris says
Loves this week included sephora’s VIB sale, Two Faced Sweet peach palette and Loreal Carmel Solo gloss. Reading through the comments have to agree with Jennifer. House of Cards on Netflix is one of my favorite shows. Also enjoying The Americans and Better Call Saul.
Alyssa says
Hi! I don’t ever change a full face of makeup but I love to change lipstick colors through out the day!
Nicole Anderson says
When I think of big fancy stores Le Vian jewelry sparkles right into my head so I would have to say Every Kiss begins with Kay♡♡♡♡ and the baby what a little doll she is absolutely amazing (:
nat ogu says
i have made small changes to my makeup due to my mood , like lipstick or added some shimmer to go out.
i have an uncle who texts in all caps but he says such hilarious things it really doesnt matter
Brian says
Hope you are doing well Karen! My lip color usually changes throughout the day. Usually it progressively gets darker lol
Christy says
The latest makeup gimmick I tried was Lipstick Queen’s Frog Prince. The lipstick is green, but it converts to a pink on your lips. That’s right, I paid $25 for a fancier version of a $2 tube of Wet’n’Wild style nostalgia! The lipstick feels pretty good on, it’s packed with vitamin E oil. It’s sheerer than what I normally wear, but I think it’ll be great for occasional use!
Kim Pincombe Cole says
My mother in law will send emails & texts in all caps and it drives me nuts…
What can do you when it’s your mil?!
Rachel R. says
Happy Caturday! You’ll make it through baby jail, I promise. All the interns are doing a fabulous job!
Heather Gillespie says
Would love to get the KVD Shade & Light palette or Anastasia Glow Kit from Sephora!
Rosie says
I have an incredible talent for rubbing off my makeup – seemingly without touching anything, and it doesn’t take more than a half hour. Before I leave in the morning I have to reapply, then again later! It is a good thing I love beauty supplies!
Isabella says
There are some kind of stamps for your eyeliner. you’re suposed to press your liner on by covering the stamp with liner. Dumbest thing I’ve seen in a long time!
Lisa R says
I think I am in college jail. Stuck behind a computer at home, for days at a time. Human interaction has become a luxury. It’s rough because I was in the workforce for so long before this. It’s a big change, but a welcome one.
Dumbest makeup gimmick? Eye shadow in the corners of the eye! It really looks bad! 🙂
CHEERS to you sweet lady!
Laura says
I was playing with grey eyeshadow today and while it looks pretty, it is going out for fun dark. This does not match the t-shirt and pony tail I have going on for a Saturday of yard chores.
Ambritt says
I saw a really dumb makeup gimmick today on YouTube. Apparently a company makes makeup stamps yeah it doesn’t turn out that great lol I’d say that’s a pass for me.
Becky says
Oh goodness you must be feeling it now! Baby jail-o-rama! The most exciting thing I’ve done this week is learn the Malagasy word for computer (solosaina) it literally translates to replacement brain!! Ha! True in so many ways!
Maren says
I always somehow have a bunch of lipstick in whatever bag I’m using so I can switch up my look that way.
Cindi says
Thanks for this amazing opportunity!
Actually, I enjoy cosmetics and experimenting with various brands, colors and textures… Yes, I do change makeup on days, when I have a huge change of moodiness.
If I am sad, I don’t wear eye makeup, because the tears may flow. Daring moods call for the call of the wild!
Many thanks, Cindi
Tania G says
My mom writes in all caps. not always, but i don’t even understand why she puts the caps on to write anything.
Tracy Robertson says
I think I’m a good story teller. I can usually get people laughing and I like that.
Eileen says
Putting makeup on perks me up, no matter what mood I’m in!
Sherry P says
Your interns are doing an excellent job but girl I miss your zany humor! I remember when my two eldest were 2 and 1 and I got to go to the mall all by myself. Dear Lord what an adventure! I came home looking like a straight up clown because I had to let every counter have a go at me lol. Thanks interns I’m enjoying your posts and thanks Karen for your blog
Pauline says
Connor Claire is getting to be a big girl.
Laurinha says
Hi MBB family!
Have a nice weekend
Kathleen says
Has anyone tried the new Bite Amuse Buche lipsticks? I am loving the color Sour Cherry!
Lulu says
I do change my makeup if my mood changes. Even at work) my eye pencils and 2-3 different lipsticks are always in my bag)
Victoria says
Loving the contributions from the MBB interns! Really good decision! I love to just browse Sephora for no reason…lusting over products and point perks! Usually when I should be studying but its just a place to get lost for like an hour!
Lindsay says
i’d have to say color changing lipsticks are a little gimmicky. it’s a fun idea but i’d rather stick with lipstick thst looks like it does in the tube.
Michelle L says
I’m a long winded storyteller.
LizzyLovesSatan says
Pick meeeeee!
Lisa Foster says
I sometimes add more makeup during the day, but mainly because I put on minimal makeup to go to the gym before work (I feel weird working out in full makeup) then put a little more on to go to work.
Sarah W says
At a mall near my house, there’s a sign for a cowboy boot store that’s just a huge statue of a cowboy boot (can you tell I live in Texas)
Kathy says
The dumbest makeup gimmick I can remember is when l’oreal tried to tell its consumers to put on their foundation via a mini paint roller.
LaTanya says
I am a good storyteller
Lisa Brown says
I am a horrible story teller
Irene says
I cannot get over how adorable Connor Claire is. Her lashes are definitely on fleek! Please give baby sniffs and gigils to my niece for me! 🙂
Mel. B. says
Conner Claire is a cute name!
Heidi says
Lol, isn’t it funny how you live for the moment your hubby walks through the door so you can leave for some “alone time” even though you love that baby more than anything?! My girls are 5, 3, and 1 and I still go walk around the grocery store at night by myself. 🙂 In happy news at this house – we’re night time potty training the 5 and 3 yr old and every week they go with no accidents they get a “makeover” on Sat. Yes, I believe 5 and 3 are a little young to be wearing makeup but if it means I don’t have to do 20 loads of laundry a week then they can walk around Sat night with some makeup on.
Leah says
I actually think that I’m a great storyteller!
Aimen Abbasi says
I am a terrible storyteller! I talk waaaayyy too long about it to where u don’t care anymore or I can not stop laughing haha
BlessedTA says
Yes, I’m a good story teller
Lynn T. says
I think anything that’s requires lots of layering and shaping is gimmicky. It no longer enhances features rather it distort a person’s looks…like those lip suction products. Why would anyone want to plump up their lips every 2-4 hours. it’s too obvious.
Yelena says
I would love to win the prize. Because I am awesome and in need of new makeup. 😉
Lyn says
I wasn’t going to comment until I noticed this question…
“Do you ever change your makeup during the day because of your mood?”
Like every single day, probably more than once. And it also seems that no matter what I do, no matter what look I’m going for, I always end up adding liquid eyeliner at some point because I can’t handle it. I have a liquid eyeliner stashed everywhere, including my makeupbag, every bathroom in my house, my glove compartment and my nightstand. I may have a problem
AmyBS says
Someone I am friends with on Facebook always writes in CAPS – drives me crazy!
Leora says
Huge fan from Toronto!!! Congrats on the one month with your baby!!! It will only get easier!!!
Jessie C. says
I am so not a good storyteller.
Dawn says
I might change up my lipstick during the day. It’s definitely a mood thing.
Susan Christy says
Haha – I stick my foot in my mouth on a regular basis! Most recently was Thursday.
Cindi says
Love to experiment with various types of cosmetics in many forms and textures! If I am going through a sad time in my life, I don’t wear any eye makeup. Daring moods are fun and bring out my artistic tendencies!
Many thanks, Cindi
?
Brandee says
I how I need this !!!! Pick me!!!
Nicole says
I am a godawful storyteller! Hahah
Kathy says
Your little girl is adorable! I do know someone who types in all caps, hate it!
Nicole says
I’m a horrible story teller.. In my head it sounds great but when it comes out, not so great.
Alex Senkova says
I’m really enjoying all the interns’ posts. You picked such talented women, and I love how different they all are! and thank you for this opportunity!
Al says
Thanks for the giveaway, Karen! 🙂
Whitley says
When I think of a big fancy store name, I think of Nordstrom!!! ??❤️
Justine says
Hang in there, Karen!
Alona Y says
My best friends mom has one weird personality trait – she seems to like to “catch” people sticking their foot in their mouth, lol. Conversations with her are a bit like walking through a minefield – so the last time that happened to me of course was with her. (:
Marta says
Your Interns are doing a great jobs!
Maddie says
I usually switch up my lip products throughout the day because I have so many I love.
Steph Z says
I tend to be the one guilty of the Caps Lock thing but only when I am really excited/angry about things so it’s not as if I’m yelling at people all the time.
Cel says
Loving the interns, missing knowing my foundation/concealer shade color from you haha.
I feel like switching lipsticks is an easy (lazy cel) way to match my look to my mood.
Rosemary says
When you think of big, fancy store signs, what’s the first one that comes to mind: Cartier, cause diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
Tasha says
I haven’t been keeping up with my MBB for a couple of months because of being a newly mom. Now Kai is 9 months old and I’m slowly starting to keep up. Love to Conor Claire. I am hoping to win so I can visit my friends at Sephora. (=
Joselyn Hernandez says
Very rarely change my makeup once I’ve done it.
illy junus says
I change my lipstick during the day, i tend to be more natural/nude, and at night more bold/red
Kwmechelle says
But Connor Claire is such a cute, wittle warden! Nothing exciting in my world. Got a full list for the VIB sale. But then again, when is my beauty list NOT long? Hope you get more daily jaunts (and maybe a 15 minute reprieve to add to it!).
Aarti says
Not my whole look, but I always keep a few lipstick shades in my purse in case I’m feeling a change in the afternoon. Sometimes even if I am just driving home, I’ll change my usual MLBB shade to bright or bold lip to signify the end of the work day. There is just something about jamming out in my car and catching a glimpse of a great lip color in my overhead mirror on the way home that makes me smile!
mrsshukra says
Big fancy store sign = expensive!
Sara says
Just shopped the sephora sale! Only got the basics though, realy want to try the becca foundation from your post in January!
Jolene Johnson says
I’m so super excited. I spent the whole entire day (!) By myself. At the mall.. Well, mostly at Sephora and Macy’s at the MAC counter. 🙂 I’m just relearning makeup after like a four year hiatus. My daughter is almost four. So. Anyway, I got matched for foundation and a couple samples to try, swatched Too Faced Peach (in love with the shade Just Peachy!), and put a few things on my need to buy now list: Tarte Rainforest of the Sea eyeshadow palette, Kat Von D Lolita even though I only tried Lolita 2. I could go totally makeup crazy! 🙂
Anissa says
Dumbest makeup gimmick?
those mac eye glosses. Like who the hell came up with that? wouldn’t your eyelids stick together and who wants glossy eyelids anyways? I have never seen anyone use them and I find them a bit gimmicky.
Denay says
The dumbest makeup gimmick I’ve used of late is probably the wing eyeliner stamp, so silly.
Christine says
I DO. LOL
nicole says
The interns are giving up some great posts, that have really inspired me to make some spring makeup changes, which is why I could use the $50! Time to throw out the old stuff!
THANKS
Dominique says
I don’t really change my makeup per my mood but I will change what I’m wearing if I don’t like how it looks with my makeup that morning. I think it’s all about priorities lol ???
Sandy says
Yes, my husband writes in all caps all the time and I can’t stand it. I try to tell him that it means he’s yelling but he doesn’t see it that way! I can’t stand all this color correcting mumbo jumbo, especially the red lipstick under the eyes. Glad to hear that you’ve been able to sneak a little time out for yourself and enjoy lots of those See’s candies while you’re nursing! (Love the cashew brittle) Take care Karen.
MelodyJ says
I am a very good story teller. Knowing the right details are important to bring the story to life.
Lori P says
Not so much of a gimmick but the trend of strobing. Every time I’ve seen the result of someone who strobes, I’m thinking Ewwww, her face looks oily/greasy. As a person who already has combination to oily skin? No thanks.
Maren says
Usually I add makeup to go with a mood. It helps!
nicole says
I usually change my lipstick based on my mood. Keep making those jail breaks 🙂
Rachel says
I usually just do basic make up for my daily life/work, but will punch it up with a brighter lip color or winged liner if I’m in a good mood (or bad moon, a good lipstick can really turn a day around!).
Julia Kastner says
Karen are you going to do a quick video or at least a review with swatches of the new Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette?? You are like my exact skin tone and I value your makeup reviews the most because of that. Can’t wait to see a look you put together with this new palette. Ulta had been all sold out so I haven’t gotten mine yet =( major sad face…. Ps your baby girl is adorable!!!
Alicee says
Idk if it’s so much a gimmick as I just don’t get it, but body contouring i.e. chest and leg contouring…. All I can think about that is it must rub of horribly on furniture and clothing.
Elizabeth says
I only know one person who writes in all caps, every time he emails I feel like he is yelling at me! Haha!
Cathy says
I never change my make-up during the day…it’s a one and done type of thing! I’ve been enjoying the interns..I would keep them on just to give you more time to yourself and the baby.
Fiona says
I’ve just got a new job which is doing more social-based work but less pay, I think I’ll find more fulfilling though. I start next Monday, really excited and frightened!
Karrie Millheim says
I have a friend that always writes in caps..its like she is screaming at me hello..lol
Rachel says
I’ve only just recently started following MBB but the interns are doing a great job.
em says
i am the worst storyteller! If someone wants to hear a story right, I look to the next person to tell it lol
CK says
I change either eyeshadow or lipstick in the evening.
Lorraine says
Makeup gimmicks- ridiculous applicators that say they will rock your world…I am looking at you, vibrating, globe shaped, paint brush, dial up, and miniature mascara wands, oversized unwieldy sponges and brushes for foundation(remember when kabuki brushes and special foundation brushes were deemed must have items?). Makeup stencils of any kind. Crazily textured 3-D nails- bubble gum shaped nails, pierced nail jewels(earrings for your nails?), fuzzy tennis ball nails. Foundation that comes in weird textures, like foamy mousse, bouncy compact or airbrush effect spray on.
Pamela says
Hope you’re getting some sleep, Karen! Don’t forget to ask for help when needed.
ann b says
Luckily I don’t know anyone who types in all caps but I used to have a coworker who used comic sans and tons of sparkly emojis in all of her business emails.
Jaclyne L. says
My silly makeup trick is using scotch tape for my winged eyeliner! I look so goofy doing it, but it works like a charm!
Nadia A. says
Hi Karen! I hope you, El Hub, Connor Claire, and Tabs are doing well. I am busy Spring Cleaning our house. It is nice to clean, reorganize, and get rid of things we don’t need. Have a great week!❤️

Happy Saturday! I just placed my Sephora sale order (there will probably be another before the sale ends) & I got the Disney Minnie Beauty: Perfect Red Lipstick. I can’t wait for my box to arrive! And I can’t believe Connor Claire is already a month old. I guess time really flies when you’re that adorable! 🙂

I sometimes change my makeup during the day. I usually just switch up my lip product.

I think the only thing I change because of my mood is lipstick. But it is pretty telling!
Tali May says
I like to buy pretty roses or flowers to brighten up my moood. Makes a HUGE difference. Esp when it still snows in April, like it is here in Chicago!
BlackAsphodel says
Are you a good storyteller? Hm, I think I do okay.
Christina says
I usually don’t change my makeup during the day.
Cindy says
Yes! I’m a good storyteller! In fact, people always ask me if I have a story because there always is one! HAHA!
Dumbest makeup gimmick? Contouring! That should be left to the pros. Even so, when I see women on TV sometimes I can spot that contour stripe down their nose!
Lael says
Love your site and recommendations!! I think it also helps that we are the same skin tone!!
ANNA NGO says
On bus, I offered seat for a woman, but she denied. I insisted: “No madam, you’re pregnant”. She starred at me “No, I’m not!”, My foot was stuck on my mouth !
Sarah says
I write in all caps when I’m sending a mad text or when I’m trying to make a strong point.
Irene says
The worst gimmick is when a product says 8 in 1! and then does the one purpose it’s supposed to do. Like a primer will say “5 in 1! Smoothes, preps, hydrates, moisturizes, and protects!” when I feel like most of those should reasonably be expected in any primer! And some are just repetitive, different ways to say the same thing! So don’t even with that gimmick! or when bb or cc cream says “evens skin tone, color corrects, enhances complection, 3 in 1!” When those three things all mean the same exact thing!!! Totally turns me off of a product 🙁
Lauren says
You’ll get more sleep soon!!

big fancy store signs – CHANEL
Tori says
Store signs aren’t that much of a thing here in the uk, the biggest ones that spring to mind are for big DIY stores … Very glam.
The Urban Decay boutique in Covent Garden has a really cute sign though, even if it’s not very big!
Kristen says
Do you ever change your makeup during the day because of your mood?
No, just my lipstick sometimes.

I agree, the MBB interns are fabulous! Not only are they talented and interesting as individuals, but I think as a collective they bring a nice variety of opinions and perspectives to the blog. 🙂
Maria says
I had really high hopes for Nest’s new fragrance Citrine. It’s the most perfect blend of citrus and floral, but when sprayed on me, it’s way too strong. My younger sister loved it though, and I bought her the bottle. I wish it came in a slightly lighter version, like an eau de toilette.
Julie Murphy says
I know someone who writes in caps all the time.
Lisa says
I never understood the vibrating mascara wand trend.
Jenna M says
Haha my dad writes in caps and I hate it:D
Gina B. says
Thank goodness for those store runs!!! Sanity!!! I think I am a good storyteller. I’ve written a few short-stories a few years ago but I haven’t done that in a long time… Watch that candy girl…. it’s a trap!!! Your far to nice and thin to gain weight!!! Love the baby pics when you show them, she’s just so precious!!!!
Lena says
I don’t know anyoen who write in Caps all the time
Nicole - paleandfreckled says
I’m still in baby jail too at almost 4 months. We did get out to a 1 year old’s birthday party with the baby and toddler yesterday morning, but the rest of the day was.. unpleasant. Bottle refusal when you absolutely have to supplement is no joke. If baby has recently slept and eaten before our weekly Target trip today, maybe I’ll take him in the carrier. I sadly miss grocery shopping, haha!
Amanda Waithe says
I have tried storytelling but my kids let me know that I am horrible at it.
Phoebe says
I sometime change my lipstick color during the day. I come to work with one color and after lunch I might change it to another.
Deb says
I think benefits they’re real push up liner is just silly. I’ve never tried it but it can’t be easy to apply smoothly.

My mom seriously abuses caps lock 😀
Fran says
Karen, I sure have missed your voice while you’ve been away in babyland, but have very much enjoyed reading the interns’ posts.
Haven’t been commenting this week because I’ve been out the door in a hurry to go to school: in nine more weeks I can take the exam to become a licensed esthetician, if you can believe it! Then I want to go on to specialize in makeup…
But it’s been a real achievement for me to be on the train at 7:15 am and to keep going all day long in spite of a variety of medical issues, so I’m thrilled to have made it through the first week with my enthusiasm intact.
There are twelve students in the class, ages 19 to 72, and everyone, including the teacher, is great. So it’s a lot of fun.
We go to school Tuesday through Saturday, so I’ll be doing a lot of studying today and tomorrow, for the Tuesday morning test, and trying to memorize the sequence of steps in an hour-long facial with massage.
Sometimes I’ll change my lipstick because of my mood. I don’t usually change anything else, unless all of my makeup has been removed by one of my fellow students practicing a facial! Then I have to at least get some sunscreen back on my face.
Ellen says
I work in IT. At least half the emails I get about issues are in all caps. I try to ignore it but it always feels like they’re yelling in utter technological panic, no matter how minor the issue is.
Julia C says
My husband is the best story teller!
RM says
I have been using Marc Jacobs O!mega mascara with UDPerversion for the second coat, and it’s making a thick voluminous look!
Julie Coleman says
The most gimmicky makeup I remember in the recent past were those eyeshadows that ‘in one swipe’ would give you the lid color, crease shade, and brow highlight…who ever approved that?!
Nikolina says
I think I’m a terrible storyteller, like the worst out there!! lol
Paula says
My late sister used to e-mail in all caps. Every time I would get an e-mail from her I would think why is she screaming at me? And after reading the e-mail it was maybe just a story she was telling me or something she needed. It didn’t help when we told her not to write in all caps, she just kept on doing it. It was like she didn’t know where the caps lock button was.
Deborah says
I have a friend at work who is a great storyteller, me – not so much.
sheila ressel says
When I think of big, fancy store signs, the first one that comes to mind for me is Macy’s.
Wren says
I very often change my makeup during the day as my mood changes! It’s one of the things I love about lipsticks – they’re so easy to change. I usually carry a light pink sheer lip product, a brown-y one, and something vampy, just to keep up with my moods 🙂
Katherine Thul says
I generally don’t change my makeup during the day.
Amy Orvin says
I don’t know of any one but me who uses ALL-CAPS all the time.

Lyse Davitt says
I wouldn’t change my make up mid-day but I am always up for more eyeliner.
veronica lee says
When I think of big, fancy store signs, Zara is the first one that comes to mind.
Allison says
I know people that type in all caps, but I think it’s worse when they use bad text grammar, like replacing ‘you’ for ‘u’!
natasha lamoreux says
I am pretty set on my makeup with the day/night look. I might make my eyes a little bolder at night but it’s pretty much the same look.

So my cousin just informed me of a whole new way to get free makeup! We both only wear makeup on occasion so it works for us. Here’s what you do. Go up to Bobbi brown, MAC, Sephora.. Which ever you desire and let them know you are trying new makeup and still looking for the right foundation concealer, gloss etc. then kindly ask for a Sample, Yea I said FREE SAMPLE :).. Call it cheap or resourceful, I don’t care, it works! One day I went to every makeup store in the mall and came out with over 30 samples of expensive makeup! Don’t knock it till you try it!
Kathleen Smith-Woodcock says
I do miss Karen but ggod job by the ladies who are contributing during this time, excellent!
Nina says
The interns are doing a fantastic job!
There used to be an older man in my office who typed in all caps. He was low tech and sometimes didn’t even add punctuation symbols when appropriate. But his message got through loud and clear so management didn’t bother with him.
Tracy says
I think the dumbest makeup gimmick are those contour/highlight/blush trios that are laid out where you’re supposed to swipe all three and brush it across your face to get the perfect application. I think there were eyeshadows too.
Emily says
Well, I don’t know anyone who writes in all caps all the time, but my grandma does it often! It’s funny, but mostly, we’re impressed that she knows how to email at all at 93 🙂

I love seeing your posts here and there Karen – I miss you but the interns have been doing a wonderful job!
Erika B says
I’m loving the Connor Claire updates… what a doll! 🙂
Kate K says
My stepfather puts quotes around at least one word in nearly every sentence, which is almost as annoying as an all-caps writer. Ridiculous gimmick = spray-on nail polish. Baby life gets easier as the weather gets nicer…good luck!
Katie R says
HAPPY SUNDAY!
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway opportunity!
Question: Do you know anyone who writes in ALL-CAPS all the time?
Answer: It seems like the job I left five months ago, this was the trend. It also felt like they were always yelling…which they probably were.
It is rainy here today! :-O
Lizzy says
My mom always writes some parts of her texts in caps but not others and it’s so confusing to me, haha. She isn’t leaving caps lock on because the capitalized texts aren’t even close to each other. “HI Lizzy how r u? I am DOING VERY WELL. Hugs MOM”
XD Maybe it’ll be the new texting fad, who knows?
Megan says
Ha- your “ALL CAPS” question had me laughing. Right after I taught my Mom how to use email, she sent me one in all caps begging “PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO TURN OFF THESE LETTERS”.
NUR AMIRA SYAZANA NORDIN says
yes ! makeup is equal with mood 🙂 it’s my personality
Angela Suttles says
I have also been in baby jail because I have a little guy that turned two months old on April 3rd! Its been a blast but can be rough because I had to return to my full time job 2 weeks ago. While we listen to baby tunes on my laptop I like to show him the beauty stuff/social media mommy likes:)
Terri says
I loved the picture of Tabs babysitting Connor Claire – too cute :).

I have a funny story about fancy store signs. I live in a small town and I had never been to a Macy’s before. I went to Orlando for Spring Break my last year of college and I had my friends take my picture in front of the Macy’s sign! They found it hilarious!

Last time I stuck my foot in my mouth? Ages ago. Definitely before my first pregnancy. Maybe when I still did yoga. AT least I would have been flexible enough back then.
Anastassia says
Hello. I change my makeup during days when I feel I need to do it. When I have to go somewhere special or have an appointment after work. Usually I change the lipstick and put on some eyeshadow and extra mascara.
Natalie says
I think that one of the dumbest makeup gimmick is any makeup that advertises 24 hour staying power. There is no lipstick or eye shadow that stays for 24 hours!
Andrea T. says
I’m not a good storyteller because I get sidetracked halfway and lose my train of thought!
Judy Thomas says
I hate it when people write all in caps to me, I feel as though they are yelling at me!

When I was in Amman, Jordan I went to the mall (of course) and had my picture taken in front of the huge “Mecca Mall” sign. Lol!

Olivia M says
My mom use to type in all caps
Heather L says
Sometimes I change my lipstick. And sometimes I go from “no makeup” to makeup because I get in the mood for makeup even though I’m not going out. But other than that I just don’t have time to change my makeup. I wish I had more time in general for that, and more time to do things like go out at night and be more likely to feel like changing it! I can’t wait until spring semester is over!
Melly says
I’m a TERRIBLE storyteller! I tend to go off on tangents, then forget the story I was telling in the first place.

Swati says
A band that I follow on facebook writes in all caps!
Hollie says
The last time I stuck my foot in my mouth was last Thurs. I’m a CT tech and we had this cute older man from the ER in the room. I had told him to sit still for 1 second while I put his info into the computer. He jokingly assured me he wasn’t going anywhere and not to worry, which I responded, you never know I dont want you running away on me. Just as I was finishing that sentence I realized he was an amputee. He looked at my faces and laughed at me. To make matters worse I said ok I can insert my foot in my mouth now. He just shook his head and laughed at the fact!!! Thank God he was such a nice guy!! I always try to lighten the mood of all my pts while remaining professional. 99.9% of the time they love the environment I create for them.
Karen says
•Do you know anyone who writes in ALL-CAPS all the time?
Fortunately, no. It’s super frustrating though…
•Are you a good storyteller?
Not as good as my Dad! He makes everything come alive and has perfect comedic timing! I think I tend to think stories area funnier than they really are…
•Dumbest makeup gimmick?
The eyelid tape. Just love your body the way it is and stop trying to change it… Embrace whatcha got!
•Last time you stuck your foot in your mouth?
Can’t remember, fortunately!

“Do you ever change your makeup during the day because of your mood?” I just wear concealer, brow pencil, mascara and sheer pink lip balm at work. However, when I get nervous (especially when I must meet someone important), I would apply red lipstick right away. Somehow it instantly boosts my confidence? And when I’m feeling a bit down, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Rendezvous (third tube now!) is my BFF! 😉

Dumbest makeup gimmick has gotta be that battery powered mascara wand that rotates the brush as you apply your mascara to lift and curl. Sounds dangerous!
Miradan says
I think I’m a pretty good storyteller, the problem is usually trying to remember if I’ve already told that story to someone. I had a friend in high school who would let my sister and I each tell her a story *once*, but would not let either of us tell it to her a second time.
Yao says
I’m a terrible storyteller, mostly because I want to get to the punchline/climax of the story too quickly. Heh.

I was at a job interview for a marketing/event position with the city library and I said I preferred buying books to checking them out at the library (at least I specified I liked the used bookstore in the library basement and not like B&N? When I was a new Mom, nursing my month-old first baby (those enormous breasts, size G or something), I quickly got up to answer the UPS guy at the front doorbell. He was smiling broadly…only later did I realize that I had one nursing flap open/shirt hiked up, revealing one enormous breast through the glass storm door. He leered at me for years ’til we got a new guy on the route.
