** THE GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED **
This giveaway is closed, and the winner has been contacted (CONGRATULATIONS, LISA!!!), but check back next Saturday for another giveaway.
Baby barking — it’s the latest craze sweeping the nation, you know. Connor Claire has figured out how to bark out orders and shout to announce her displeasure throughout the day. “Eh!” That’s what she does now. When she wants to be picked up or just wants to stare at me and I walk out of her view for a few seconds, that’s what I hear. “Eh!” Over and over. “Eh! Eh!” Like she’s a baby crow, haha.
Good morning, friend! How are you? What did you do last night? Since I’m stuck in baby jail, I need you to help me out. Did you go out to dinner this week? Have you seen any movies? Have you been to the beach? Or the mall? Or Target? Old Navy? Downtown? In other words, have you done anything at all outside of your house? Because, you know, if you have…chances are you’ve been leaving the house a lot more often than I have.
Heck, I don’t think I’ve opened the front door since Thursday. (The struggle is real!)
I gotta get out of the house. Maybe a stroll around the mall in Corte Madera… I’m still mastering the art of loading and unloading the stroller from the car, though. My little Mazda is…little. So NOW I see what the big deal is about minivans. Yup, now I get it.
Good luck in the giveaway, and have a great weekend. Talk to you soon.

I remember being in baby jail 11 years ago. I went nuts! Yesterday I went with my daughter and her 6th grade class to Knott’s Berry Farm. It sure was fun, and it loved spending that time with her. You’re baby jail time will soon be over Karen, don’t worry.
I did play soccer in high school. I was no good at it though. I was mostly a bench warmer.
Agata says
Hi Karen, sorry that yesterday was rough. Maybe just go for a walk around the neihgborhood? This way you won’t have to worry about putting the stroller in your car!
My favorite shoes ate the moment are my sparkly Converse’s 🙂
Jen G says
Oh I so remember those days! Where a shower is a luxury!! Instead of a stroller maybe just strap her on your chest. 😉 It helps in a pinch. You are rocking the mom thing and she absolutely beautiful.

K, T & CC – I think I have 3 favorite makeup brands now – MAC always, Nars & when organizing my cosmetics the other day I realize I have a ton of Urban Decay! That 1 snuck up on me. Happy weekend!

Want to trade places? I’d love to spend time with Little Protege. 🙂
I want to go visit The Cloisters today. It’s a spur of the moment decision. I am getting more impulsive in my old age. 😛

I technically played soccer when I was in highschool (during the two hours of PA we had per week) but I A) hated it and B) sucked at it. I definitely did not bend it like Beckham.

Hang in there, Karen!! Sounds like you’re doing an amazing job!
As a Brit, we played a lot of football at school! All us girls used to keep our gym shorts on under our skirts after PE lessons, so we could then take them off and use them as goalposts for football on lunch break!
Beekeyper – Latest post – Cedrat Global Face Gel – and why you should borrow it too!
Mars says
I used to play soccer when I was a kid because I grew up in France. All the neighborhood kids basically played it, because it was the only “football” we knew! It’s the national sport!
I wasn’t really good at it, but it was fun to play together, and run. That meant days were getting longer and warmer, summer was around the corner, and we were young and carefree… Good memories!
Teresa Luong says
I just finished finals for this semester, summer is here!!
Laura says
No to dinner theater, those things make me feel uncomfortable. When I go out to dinner, I just want to eat, no entertainment needed.
Julie Coleman says
I probably only blow dry my hair once per week because I normally shower at night after going to the gym and let my hair dry overnight. But even though I don’t use my hairdryer often, I’m dying to get my hands on the new Dyson hair dryer!

Kara says
I seldom use my hairdryer.
Nicole - paleandfreckled says
I’m also in baby jail, but I’m making an extra effort to get in our yard every day since the toddler needs outside time. It’s not the most fun since I usually need to get the baby into the carrier since he invariably wakes up from a nap while we’re out there. At 5 months he’s finally got a more locked in bedtime of ~7pm and waking twice. Had it easy with my first who dropped night feeding pretty early. This guy is too distracted to eat much during the day most of the time, so as everything else with him it’s a challenge. I said it last weekend and it didn’t happen but maybe I’ll get to Ulta to do a return this weekend while the boys are napping.
Heather W says
I love live theatre and one of the best shows I’ve ever seen was actually a dinner theatre. The show was called Tony and Tinas wedding, and it played at second city in Toronto many years ago… so funny!

Amoure Jones says
Hey Karen, Little ladies love Momma’s attention.
My weekend is pretty mellow after just finishing up 20 centerpieces for my aunts prayer breakfast (she acknowledges the military and hands out awards to them and students graduating from high school). I’ve been doing it for the past 5 years already and I truly enjoy doing my part. Plus I get to showcase my talent/creativity in that area.
I use a hair dryer probably once a month because usually I just let my hair air dry. If I do use it it’s on cool especially if I’m following up with a flat iron because too much heat is damaging.
Have a great rest of the weekend.
Lisa Brown says
I rarely use a hair dryer, I let my hair air dry the majority of the time.
Lola says
My favorite kicks right now have to be my flip flops! The weather is getting warm, and I have major summer fever!
Tatiana says
I remember having a Civic with the baby seat and stroller. The stroller wasn’t the problem. This was before car seats with the click in/click out seats. So I had to lean in to unbuckle my kid, pick her up and put her in the stroller. None of that was a pain, but I usually whacked my head on the low door sill. Man, Civics were really small back then.
I think I had a different mode of operation. I went out with my kid every day. Rain, shine, grocery shopping, mall, dinner. If I didn’t get outside I went crazy, so whether my kid wanted it or not, we went out. Yeah, trips took 50% longer than they did without baby in tow, but I felt like it was important to get out. I was actually kinda jealous of moms with sleeping babies in their strollers. My husband and I used to marvel at sleeping babies in public. Mine was always a wide awake kinda kid. But whether she was happy, vocalizing or downright upset, we went out. Try a ten to twenty minute walk with the stroller in your neighborhood. Not to far, cuz I know you’ve got hills.
Bex D says
Hi Karen!
I had a busy day. This morning I went to the hairdressers, then got a new ear piercing (front helix) and then did the shopping. Am now sat curled up on the sofa under a fleecy blanket with a good book (am in UK so its 7:50 in the evening here).
Give Connor Claire a hug. My 2 year old nephew has discovered the charms of a Minions guitar so my sister sends me gorgous vids of him.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend xx

brooklynshoebabe says
my hair is so short that I towel dry it or let it air dry instead of using a hair dryer.
Michaela says
Hi Karen! Sorry you think you are stuck in Baby Jail. I assure you it gets better as Connor grows older and you can maybe take her to Sephora while she is asleep in her stroller. Or take advantage to go solo when she’s with the babysitter. Anyways, my favorite pic of mine is when I was 5 years old, and one of my front teeth is missing. Classic!
Maria says

I am not at baby jail jet, But I had home arrest 3 weeks ago, we had a vacation from school but was nothing like a vacation. I was home alone the whole day I don’t mind that. But the whole uncomfortable situation was , it has been very hot these days and during those 2 weeks was more it feels like we are in an oven. I feel the warm weather these days heavier than ever, I feel like I am burning. If I lay in bed with the fan on there was no position I could take that was not uncomfortable. I got kind of rash on my belly and in other parts of my body due the sweat, well it was not sweet.
When the weekend came we had to stay home to fix the rooms tiles/painting and so many things that need to be fixed to make it safe for the big moment so I felt the home arrest more.
So Karen I feel what you are feeling already

Twitter is my homepage. I love me some Twitter! This week I went to a scone tea at the local Seniors Center. My grandma and all her friends were serving and being a bunch of grandmas they had made the scones and cream from scratch. They also had a bake sale. It was kind of like heaven! 🙂

Heather G says
I’ve never used a hairdryer for around 10 years.
Cindy says
I use a hairdryer every time I wash my hair, which is most days. I know this is a sin for curly hair but I can’t stand not having my hair washed because I use a LOT of product. Every time it’s washed I have to diffuse it dry or else my hair will be flat, and I CAN’T have that! Haha!
Tracy Robertson says
I hope your hubs gives you a nice break so you can get out soon! I’ve never been to dinner theater. I would love to try it at least once, those murder mystery ones sound like fun.

My brother used to be the type to have all the cool cars, fix them them really nice. BUT once he got married, he had to sell his cool little sports car and get an SUV. THEN, once they started having kids, the SUV went bye bye and HELLO MINIVAN! Funny thing is, he loves it. Mr. sports car really enjoys having a minivan haha
I sure hope you get a nice day out soon 🙂
Kimm says
I haven’t left the house! I’m stuck on bedrest!!! It sucks!! I’m 36 weeks today and I’m having anxiety!!! My body aches from laying on my sides -especially my ribs. I am stuck on bedrest because my fluids are low and my baby boy is small. I drank a gallon of water yesterday and my tests today say that my fluid dipped again! It’s stil “acceptable” but I am having anxiety!!! I have to go get a fluid check and a stress test every other day so that gets me out of the house. On makeup news, my friend who works for UD brought me a Gwen blush pallet yesterday to cheer me up. It’s beautiful. It was the ‘highlight’ of my week! (Pun intended). Today my first Sephora Play! Box came. Haven’t opened it yet. Waiting till I am a little more board! I hope you have a great weekend and make it out of the house! It’s so hard to go anywhere w kids!

Liz says
My homepage is Makeupalley.
Miradan says
My favorite picture of myself was taken almost 10 years ago, days before a cancer diagnosis. It shows me happy and relaxed and not too worried about all the testing I was undergoing. I also like because I have found that, for some reason, people never take pictures of just *me* — I’m always with someone else — and I like the fact that it’s a solo shot. It’s been a long ten years since it was taken!
Aury says
I try not to blow dry my hair much, but I’ve found my wavy texture dries better if I use the diffuser on it at least a little, so I’ve been using it a lot more than usual.

Hi Karen!

I hear you about not leaving the house. I would tell you it gets easier, and in ways it does, buts it’s always something of a struggle when you’re a parent. Totally worth it though! Here’s hoping you get out soon. 🙂
Mylinda says
Your mention of the little Mazda brought back memories of my first car! I drove that Mazda from 1994 to 2005! Crazy, huh? Then I got married and hubby and I shared his car until we found out I was pregnant and so he went out and got… a minivan. I know there’s a stigma against minivans but I don’t care. Best decision ever. All that room! I’m already on my second one. And I only have two kids. God bless you, Karen. I miss your posts.
Nancy Tipton says
Oh goodness, those “baby jail” days aren’t so much fun while you’re in them, but my little “incarceration” was 30 years ago this coming August, followed by another 27 years ago, because I’m crazy like that! But now my nest has been empty for almost 8 years…I wish for those earlier days some days.
Ok, now that I went and got all misty eyed; yes, I do blow dry my very long, frizzy-curly hair bone straight once per week. It’s quite a wrestling match! Favorite shoes ATM, are my Converse with the elastic back in a white lace looking pattern and my black Air Walk sneaks.

I have to use a dryer every time I wash my hair. Every. Time. I got my parents hairy genes, so it’s a poofy mess if I let it dry naturally. I could give tabs a run for his money with furballs.

Sherry P says
Baby jail! Oh my, getting out is so important but I remember the struggle is real! Speaking of the struggle : my hair dryer blew up last Monday, I didn’t realize how much I relied on it *sigh. Now to research and get a new one. Take care of you and the sweet wee one☆

Oh girl I hear you! I worked Mon & Tues, but seem to have spent the rest of the week at medical appointments & tests, or resting at home. My health is fine, it’s just been one of those weeks of catching up on things. Also the weather has been very rainy & cold, just not conducive to being outside!

Maria K says
I love theatre, opera, musicals and classic concerts but I’m not sure if I like the combination of theatre and dinner. I think it would be ditracting both ways. I don’t know if i could enjoy both at the same time. I think it depends on what kind of play it would be. If it’s some comedic play I think I could enjoy both.
We have something like that in my hometown and you have to book the ticket at least half a year in advance. It is that popular! I have never been there but i have heard only good things about it and it is on the more comedic side.

I like wearing boots but I’m always so lazy about my looks imjustmwear sneakers. Lately I’ve been using a slip on ankle boot because my sneakers keep untying and its annoying.

I hate drying my hair, so I usually don’t do it at all. However, i had a haircut that was nothing like I asked for and now have to blow dry my hair each time I wash it so that I can straighten it right after.

Baby jail doesn’t last long, I promise. I hope you get out and about before you go stir crazy, but I kWYM sometimes all the hassle of it makes it seem not worth it. You will be a master at stroller loading, diaper bag packing and errands-outings expert(knowing where all the public restrooms with decent changing facilities and every place that has family friendly amenities- thank you Nordstrom and Kaiser for having nursing areas! etc) sooner than you think, no minivan required.

I was once forced to play soccer for an inter-company match as we didn’t have enough players. I scored a goal but we lost 0-1. I kicked the ball into the opponent’s goal post! It was the joke of the year!
Ashley says
Don’t feel bad about being in baby jail. Being outside is overrated lol. For once I actually stayed in and watched tv with my boyfriend.
Kate K says
It’s easier to get motivated to leave the house when the weather is nice, since you can just walk out the front door. My kiddo was a late fall baby and there was a lot of snow that winter, so though I was stir-crazy it was hard to do anything about it! Once I moved to an area with a good playdate group it was easier to be motivated to leave the house 🙂
I almost never use a hair dryer – even though my hair is halfway down my back it’s fine and abundant so dries pretty fast.

Oops! I didn’t mean to post twice.
My favorite kicks are a pair of pink and black AvIa running shoes of which I have two pairs. I try to only use them for real running and wear other shoes to the gym, but even so, they’re racking up the miles.

A few years ago I invested in a GHD hair dryer after being so satisfied with my GHD styler. I have to say, it changed my life! I have thick, partially wavy, and coarse hair and with a little styling product and the right brush I have an amazing blowout in 20 minutes (where before I would either take twice as long or the dryer would pass out, lol, and need a break). I try to not wash my hair too often so in winter I dry my hair twice a week but now that the weather is warming up I might let it air dry more. I recently added the curling iron to my collection and can highly recommend their products. I know they are expensive but I always wanted Brooke Shields hair and now I have it 🙂

My current favorite kicks are my black yara birsenstocks 🙂

Is “kicks” another term for footwear?? I’m out of the lingo loop!
I guess the grass is definitely greener. I’m mostly at work so one day a week I relish not leaving the house. But I understand you must be wanting outside time more often than you’re getting, Karen. I hope you master the stroller-car thing soon so that it’s easier to get out there and leave baby jail.

I have been real busy at work, had a yard sale, trimmed grass, have my grandson for the weekend, set up the kiddie pool which he enjoyed, and thinking of taking him to the play park, I forgot I even planted my garden. Had to chase my grandson down because he was in an unsafe area. I am only naming a few things I did!!!

I dry my hair a few times a week at the most

Your current favorite kicks? I like Nike running shoes. They’re cushy for my bad knees and lightweight.
What’s your favorite picture of yourself? One from when I was a teen and had my ponytail in small braids and posed like a supermodel. Hee!

Dinner theater: yes or no? Is that an invitation? Sure!
Have you ever played soccer (aka real football)? Just in gym class.
What do you have set as your internet homepage? Not sure anymore. It always opens the same tabs from when I shut it down.

Karen, I think baby barking is probably cuter than mad dog barking, which is what I have in my house lately… penny louise, my oversized ball of fluff and love, has taken a distinctly negative stance regarding the mailwoman as of late, so between her and mr. next-door deciding he should park his truck directly in front of our living room window, it’s been a bit noisy. ?
but hey, speaking of hair blow dryers… I need a new one terribly bad!! any suggestions for a good one that is quick, decent about not-frizzing, and also maybe doesn’t cost a jillion dollars? some of these prices are ridiculous!! ??
sending love to Connor Claire!! xx
India says
I use my hair dryer every day, way too often. In fact I need to cut down on using it soon!

A couple of guys my husband works with are moving, so last night we went out bowling with them as a goodbye party. I only knew one guy there, so I spent most of the time just observing and checking Instagram every once in awhile, while everyone else drank entirely too much. My husband ended up having to drive one of the guys home, with me following to pick him up. We didn’t make it in until 2 and that is too late for this old lady!!
Aarti says
I don’t think I have used a hair dryer in about two years! I have naturally curly hair and using my hair dryer, even with a diffuser, just causes so much extra frizz. Air drying is the way to go for me!
Alexandru Rusu says
What do you have set as your internet homepage?
I set Google search as my homepage.
Paula says
For some unknown reason, I have MSN as my homepage. I never even look at it! I had my hair cut short a few weeks ago so I have been using a hair dryer pretty frequently. But before that hardly never. Now that it has been a few weeks I actually am not happy because it already needs to be trimmed. I should have just left it longer so am trying to figure out a graceful way of growing it out.

My favorite kicks right now are my Toms Avalon leather flats, since they’re so ridiculously comfy! However, since summer’s coming soon, I’ll be breaking out my Birkenstocks that I bought the last time I was in Germany — they’re way cuter than the ones we can buy here.
Jae says
I played soccer as a kid but hated it. Hubby played it since he was 4 and kept at it all the way through college. My two boys started at 3 with soccer but my older son stopped last year and started football (I’m trying to be supportive) but my younger one still loves it and is really good. My girl (who’s 18 months) will start at 3 and we’ll see if she takes to it or not.

dinner theater – no way! i want to focus on the food. we don’t even watch tv at home while we’re eating, because we like to savor and enjoy (and of course talk about our day). plus, does dinner theater ever have good food? i’m guessing no.

Baby crow “eh!” Haha, what a sweetie! I’ve been in “home jail” too…very sick for awhile. Maybe go minivan shopping as an outting?! Lately I never use a hair dryer…my hair is damaged and living in rainy London, it’ll get wet and frizzy no matter what! ?
Analy Rodriguez says
I try to avoid the hair dryer since my hair I have so little and so fine hair and I feel it damages it, so I use it just in winter.

I would say I use a hairdryer about once a week, maybe less. It’s just so darn humid that I find I’d rather give up sometimes!
I felt a little trapped with DS #1 but with DS #2, I had a mommy friend whose daughter was just a few days older and we’d meet for coffee and walks and it was SO good for both of us – or all 4 of us, I guess.
Jamie says
Haven’t used a hair dryer in years! Hope you were able to break out of baby jail!
Susan C. says
My exciting weekend consisted of driving my friend to the airport…twice! She didn’t allow enough time for check in for her flight Saturday afternoon, and that was the last flight of the day to her destination, sooo…she treated me to pizza Saturday night, in exchange for a 5AM ride back to the airport on Sunday. Admittedly, the traffic was nonexistent at that hour, and once it got light out on the way home I enjoyed the quietude. Of course, I then spent most of Sunday napping on the couch, but that’s what weekends are for, right?

Sorry about the occasional baby blues, Karen. Your time is no longer your own. But when the baby looks at you with utter devotion and wiggles her body with happiness when you approach, it’s all so worth it.
I will never disparage dinner theaters again since the lovely Amy Adams got her start at our hometown’s very own institution. It’s really special to be that up close and personal to what is essentially a Broadway performance – these people are that talented. Plus I get to sip a latte and inhale chocolate cake at the same time.
