Here in New York City, the weather has officially broken out of what seemed to be a neverending cold snap, and I am loving it. The evenings and early mornings can still be a little chilly and, much to my mom’s chagrin, some parts of the state are still getting snow days! But that’s way up in the Adirondacks. I’m extra happy to be downstate at the moment dousing myself in these three floral, feminine scents.
These have been putting a little extra spring in my step since before the weather got warm.
The first one is…
Narciso Rodriguez for her Eau de Parfum ( $97 for 1.6 oz., or $124 for a 3-oz. bottle)
I’m a sucker for packaging, and this bottle is everything my little heart (or should I say my eyes?) desires. Like the scent itself, it’s feminine, it’s pink, it’s delicate — everything I secretly love while trying to retain a hardcore princess persona.
Also, can we talk about this bottle? As someone trying to expand her style into more of a sophisticated look, this bottle could not be better. It feels heavy in my hand, and that beautiful creamy pale pink? That’s the bottle, not the liquid.
I am mildly obsessed with the bottle… .
As for the fragrance, the brand describes it like this: “Radiant notes of rose petals, iris, and hints of amber, the result is a pure fragrance of soft florals and powdered musc.” The only argument I have with that is the spelling of musk. 😉 The outcome is a soft, ultra-feminine fragrance that lingers on my skin and clothes and kind of makes me feel like a woodland creature.
And my second scent is…
The Body Shop Atlas Mountain Rose Perfume Oil (available in select stores)
I wore the scent formerly known as Moroccan Rose by The Body Shop for a long time, but the last time I went to stock up, I was told that they changed the name (but not the formula). Now it’s Atlas Mountain Rose, and it’s part of their Scents of The World collection.
This body oil is the perfect citrus-based scent for summer, with top notes of citrus and cassis buds, middle notes of roses and spices, and base notes of amber and musk, and it lingers on my skin around four hours.
The applicator is great, too. Not exactly a dropper, the little plastic stick is great for just running over your wrist and pulse points.
Unfortunately, I can’t find it on the website right now, but I got it on sale for around $8 in an actual Body Shop store. I have a feeling they might be discontinuing it.
And lastly…
These Mixologie Body Oils ($19 each)
These might be cheating a little, but I count them as one scent because, well…you mix them together!
Not all of them at the same time, but two or more.
They’re the Mixologie Blendable Body Oils, and they come in super convenient little rollerballs that are meant to be layered together to create different signature scents.
The complete collection comes with several suggested “recipes” you can wear, depending on how you’re feeling, but you can always “go with the flow,” as the company puts it, and devise your own recipes (here’s a full breakdown of the different scents).
All you do is layer “splashes” of the oils, and a single splash is a full circular “O” shape, so to blend the fragrances, you just layer the splashes over each other. Easy.
I’ve mostly been following the recipes so far, with my favorites being “Extra Dirty” and “Stir Crazy.”
Mixing these oils, by the way, has been an extremely interesting experiment. The scents generally have the typical notes that you find in everyday perfumes, and mixing them has been a lot of fun.
The scents don’t last too long, but I keep coming up with slightly different concotions all the time. Also, the oils are all alcohol free, so they aren’t drying at all. I actually think they’re quite moisturizing.
So there are my picks for my best spring/summer scents so far.
How do you feel about body oils? Which ones are your favorites?

I luh-luh-looooove Narciso Rodriguez for her! Such a divine scent.
Karen says
I like it a lot! For years, though, I thought it was Narcisco, hahaha! I’m not sure if I’m blending it with San Francisco, or Sisqo the rapper…
Nivedita says
I can’t get enough of the Narciso! I had receiveda sampler in a subsciption box and it’s addicttive! I also love that Atlas Mountain Rose. I love dabbing the oil on my hair so that it lasts even longer.
Marcella Yakalis says
How do you dab it in your hair? Do you just dab it on your fingers and then run your fingers through your hair?
Nivedita says
Exactly. I take a little on my finger as I would to apply on the skin, but I run it through the hair instead.

Just wanted to pop in here to let you know the link you have for the fragrance is for the original Narciso Rodriguez For Her, whereas you’re holding Narciso Rodriguez Narciso Poudrée, their latest launch (which is a flanker of Narciso Narciso, that squat white bottle). I only know this because I have Narciso Narciso and am really keen to try the Poudree version! <3 The beauty companies seem to like to keep people on their toes with all of these flanker launches!

It's not at Sephora in the US yet, which is a bummer because I need to sniff it!
Marcella Yakalis says
Ah, thank you for letting me know! SO sorry for overlooking this.
