G’morning! 🙂
Yawn, I’m a little sleepy this morning. I got in late last night after seeing Sex and the City with my homegirl, Cindy. I’d already seen it once before, but I wanted to catch it again and promised Cindy I’d see it with her.
I kinda like revisiting movies and books; seems like I pick up on things I missed the first time around, like the first time I saw the movie I didn’t notice the wide, studded black belt Carrie wears to go apartment shopping with Big. Unless my mind was playing tricks on me (a frequent occurrence, I might add) that belt reappears in a number of Carrie’s outfits throughout the film.
Shalamar got it right when they sang the second time around.
Speaking of the second time around, I had serious fragrance deja vu yesterday with the new Rainkissed Leaves by Bath & Body Works. It reminds me of the smell of fresh cut flower stems, crushed leaves and soap and brought images of freshly cut suburban lawns to mind. Crazy as it sounds, I love it!
It’s a very “green” scent and bears a striking resemblance to my favorite Bath & Body Works fragrance of all time, Green Clover and Aloe. If you like fresh, green fragrances, you gotta check this out!
After my run yesterday afternoon, I washed with the shower gel (on sale now at B&BW for $6!), following it up with the Body Lotion ($10) and Body Splash ($11).
I didn’t want to stink up the theater, you know.
Oh, snap! I just realized I have to leave the house in 15 minutes to attend a free Chanel makeup instruction class at my local Macy’s store, and I am still in my pajamas. I recently heard about the class and wanted to check it out. I’ll report my findings later.
What are your plans for today? Is the weather nice in your neck of the woods?
Be back in a few! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hey, Girlfriend,
You picked a good one. I told you about that scent. I also detect a little bit of citrus or lemon in it,too. This is a romantic scent without being too sweet. It is subtle and a keeper. Very sexy, too, if you ask me. Also, right on with the Green Clover and Aloe which I scored and smelled for the first time in June at the BBW sale. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to smell good. Hey, I am waiting to hear all about your time at the Chanel makeup lesson. Please share. I have no tatoos but every once in a while, I think that I would have those two famous CC letters tatooed on to my wrist so that I would not forget my great obsession. I do have to say that I have a major crush on Karl Lagerfeld. He is my idea of a handsome man. Too bad he goes the other way. LOL!!! Louise

That’s so weird, I noticed the recurring studded belt the second time I saw the film too! Have fun @ the Chanel class! The weather here is atrocious, I’m curled up with a blanket and my crackberry.
Shefali says
I am totally OBSESSED with this scent. I may have to go out and buy the cleanser, etc. I got the travel size body lotion of it as a baby shower favor and I can’t stop wearing it!! I keep it as my hand lotion at my desk and whenever I put it on I get happy 🙂 How lame is that?! Shoot…I’m feeling I have to go stock up on it right now…
Music_Is_Freedom says
I haven’t checked out that scent yet, but I am obsessed with their fragrance Coconut Lime Verbena. I love how rich and sweet it smells!
And how was the Chanel class? Are there any new makeup tips we should know about?
Marisol says
How was the class? Hope you had a fabulous time.
I had the best intentions of getting up early and being productive but I ended up sleeping in and been watching movies. Have you seen the Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet? I love that movie.
Hopefully tomorrow I will be more productive. 🙂

Hiya!
Hope you’re having a good weekend so far! I’ve returned intact from the land of the mouse, and I’m totally beat (we got in at 1:30 this morning)! I spent most of the day reading my new Allure (which came in the mail while I was gone) and picking out some new glasses at the UCB eye center! I wear glasses when I’m not wearing my contacts too, and I thought the pic of you in your specs was tres chic! 😉
I wish I was at a Chanel class too! Can’t wait to hear about it! 🙂
Dao says
I tested it out during the Semi-Annual sales and this scent is not too strong. Most of B&BW stuff have really nauseated scents in my opinion and I’m glad there’s something less heady.
Have fun with the Chanel class! I wish I were there 🙁

Hi Louise Gray,
I know! I am lovin’ on it big time. It’s perfect for just a drench of scent during the hot weather.
The Green Clover and Aloe is to die for. It still does a lot for my soul, even after countless bottles and many years.
I went to a Chanel master makeup class, and it was very cool. I’m working on the post right now so you’ll see it by weekend’s end.
Girl, I have to say that Karl certainly works that fan he’s always carrying when he’s being interviewed. Gotta say that I pray that my hair looks that good when it goes grey.
How do you feel about the Chanel shadows? I am currently lusting for the Dunes quad.
Karen says
Hi Ashley Samantha,
LOL, that’s totally weird! I swear I counted it in like five outfits. It was a totally cool belt, but last time I checked, Carrie hardly recycled accessories.
I do love that movie though, and I ended up crying again.
Karen says
Hi Shefali,
I am the same way about the scent, too, especially the lotion and the body splash. I get a little splash happy with the spray, but it’s so light that you can’t really go overboard.
Stock up, girl, because there’s a buy one, get the second for half off sale right now!
Karen says
Hi Music_Is_Freedom,
Oh, I like that one, too. I have that scent for my hand wash!
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
It was great! I will post up the deets and a few pics in a few.
That movie is really cute. I’m a sucker for romantic comedies. How do you feel about Jack Black as love interest? I thought it was kinda comical…
Relaxing and taking time to chill is productive! You need that time to recharge your batteries. Tomorrow I bet you’ll be feeling really refreshed.
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Welcome back! Tabs and I missed you (he’s been visiting morning and night for the past week). What do your new glasses look like? And how was vacation (aka, find anything good at the Downtown Disney Sephora)?
Karen says
Hi Dao,
Some of sweeter BBW are a bit overwhelming, I agree. But I do like their fresh, greener scents, and some of the fruit scents that aren’t too sugary sweet, like the Passion Fruit one.
How’s your weekend been so far?
Dao says
It’s been good, I read a very good book last night and could not put it down. Do you like mystery/thrillers? Then look into Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child’s books. They collaborate, which is strange in the literacy world, and write some really mean books.

oooh, grass. sounds like my thing. unfortunately there are no BBW in montreal (my primary home) nor in korea (summer home). i don’t like many of those BBW candy-fruit type things, but freshwater cucumber, dancing waters, white tea and ginger, cool citrus basil and seaspray are pretty nice and fresh for the price!
the only exception with the fruity is the sparkling peach and the pink grapefruit (i will totally buy anything peach or grapefruit scented).
i remember the first bottle of “perfume” i owned was BBW pearberry body mist, in grade 8 or something. now i cringe and think, eww, what was i thinking?
the weather is terrible in my neck of the woods, as it always is during monsoon season in korea. all gray, hot, humid and wet. today i’m off to run a few errands and check out a MAC counter downtown!
Glosslizard says
Hee hee! I’m sending virtual head-rubs to Tabs!
I got Coach frames (oooooh 😉 ) in black and green. They’re a kind of bent rectangle shape… sort of weird tilted hexagons… but they looked really great on!
The vacation was fun, but exhausting! The only things I got at Sephora were repurchases of Fekkai Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray and Oscar Blandi Lacca hairspray… two products with which I can style my hair in 45 seconds flat! Booyah! Other than that, nothing moved me. They were sold out of the dark brown Smashbox fall lipgloss (I wanna see it!), and I didn’t see any Paul & Joe! Boo! The parks were fun, though, and I loooove the Lilo and Stitch Breakfast! 😀
Marisol says
Jack Black was endearing in this movie. He isn’t the leading man type of actor but I liked him in this movie. Jude Law was a good fit for leading man.

Hi Dao,
El Hub has a ton of thrillers on the bookshelf, and I pick one up from time to time. What’s the title of your book?
Karen says
Hi Ines,
If you like the BBW green scents then definitely check out Green Glover and Aloe. You’ll love it.
I like grapefruit scents, too. Have you ever smelled the Body Shop Grapefruit body wash? That’s my favorite grapefruit scent of all time.
That’s so cool that you get to live both in Montreal and in Korea. Do you travel because of work?
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Awww, he sends you a hug back. His favorite thing to do now is for me to carry him around like a big ole’ baby. He puts his paws over my shoulder and then just purrs away…
Those Coach frames sound HOT! I bet they are really kicky and stylish.
Tell me all about the Lilo and Stitch Breakfast!
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
Jude’s been MIA lately, have you noticed?
Every time I see Jack Black I can’t help but think of him in “School of Rock.”
Oh, I thought of you today when I watched the Terminator 4 teaser featuring our man as John Conner.
ines says
hi karen!
the body shop has the most mouthwatering grapefruit scent ever.
i really like their body butter from that same line. it’s not as sticky as the other body butters (e.g. mango, coconut), and it’s quickly become a staple, since my favorite, grapeseed, has been discontinued. sometimes i can still find some in a sad sales corner of TBS, then i hoard, hoard, hoard!
i also really enjoy other citrus scents – you should try creative scentsations honeysuckle grapefruit (grapefruit honeysuckle(?)) and tangerine lemongrass. just the right amount of sweet and tart, and you can get them in small 1oz bottles, so you can get a bunch of their scents to try (i think even smaller bottles are available, ask your local creative nail salon).
ines says
oh and ps – i travel because i’m an international student and amateur competition level ballroom dancer (korean background).
having to pay school fees/dance studio means i need to find high-paying summer jobs teaching english back home ($40-55/hr, better than waitressing in montreal!) sp i don’t starve during the school year.
but then again my serious MAC (oh dear inky fluidline and russian red lipstick, i bow in your shadow!) and fragrance addiction among my many bad money habits make my bank account very sad and shake in fear every time i enter the shopping mall!
how do you put yourself on a beauty budget and stick to it?
lots of luv for your blog!

What a sweetheart Tabs is! <3
Thanks! I’m really looking forward to getting them!
Ok, the Lilo and Stitch breakfast is one of the character breakfasts, and it’s held at the PCH grill in the Paradise Pier hotel. They have characters like Lilo and Stitch (natch) along with Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Pluto and Goofy, all dolled up Hawaiian-style! They come around to the tables to play and take pictures while everyone eats! The food is really good! It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet with stuff like fresh fruits and pastries, an omelet bar, sausages, scrambles, bananas foster french toast and oatmeal brulee (one of my favorites)! They play Elvis and Hawaiian-style music a la the L & S movie, and from time to time Stitch calls all the kids who want to participate to play Island Hoppers or learn the hukilau dance! It’s really fun to watch! What’s fantastic is that the characters are all incredibly sweet to the kids, and Stitch gets to be really mischievous! My li’l guy is always a bit scurred of the big-headed characters (I think he shows superb common sense), and they always have him laughing, smiling and playing by the time we leave! This is one of our yearly Disneyland traditions! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Ines!
I give you MAD PROPS for doing ballroom dance! That’s really cool (plus, you get to wear the coolest dresses during competitions). I’ve tried it before and holy crap that’s hard for me. Which dance is your favorite?
Hmm, I’m not sure how Canadian tax law works, maybe there’s some way you can deduct the makeup you wear during your competitions? How awesome would that be…
Regarding makeup budgeting, what helped me was chillin’ out on the clothes shopping. I used to be a total clothes junkie, but for the past few years I haven’t had the type of job where I have to look cute. Now I’m totally a tank top/jeans/Old Navy/H&M kind of girl, so, I have a bit more chump change to buy makeup.
I haven’t used the Body Shop Body Butters since they reformulated. I loved the old, thick, dense version. *tears* Oh, and thanks for the heads up on the Creative Scentsations! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
How fun! I bet the kids really love it and totally look forward to it every year. Do you have to have kids to get in? I wonder if El Hub would count. 🙂
There’s something really special about Disney traditions. When we go El Hub always start off the first day by eating breakfast on Main Street. The food is pretty good, but most of all I love watching the kids walk down into the park and seeing the excited looks on their faces.
Glosslizard says
Yeah, Main Street is especially good that way!
Of course you don’t have to have kids! There are always a few tables with only adults and others populated with teenagers! It’s really a lot of fun and the buffet is worth the price of admission!

hey karen,
my favorite dance has got to be american foxtrot (otherwise known as international slowfox) for smooth/modern dancing, rumba and bolero for slow latin dancing, and bronx mambo (dance on two, not one), jive, and disco hustle for fast latin/rhythm dancing… BUT REALLY I LOVE ALL TWENTY OR SO DANCES I REALLY LOVE.
if you found ballroom challenging, you might want to start with club latin (salsa, merengue, bachata, lambada, zouk, calypso – all of which i LOVE LOVE LOVE) or concentrate on one dance that makes you work on basic skills (argentine tango is best for this, it works on posture, footwork, balance, EVERYTHING).
i did hip hop for years before but it was ballroom that got me obssessed with dancing.
i guess my makeup budget is small because i’m constantly buying dance clothes. those performance outfits really break the bank, especially for a university student! however, they do make you feel like a princess, if you’re dancing the waltz in a floaty ballgown. the flashier they are, the better i like them!
you and el hub should totally take up ballroom or club latin, i totally recommend it. if you want really spicy and romantic i recommend argentine tango (NOT ballroom tango) for almost violent intensity, bachata for sensuality and lambada because it’s the original “dirty” dance! foxtrot, however, wins the vote for floating, elegant, smooth, i’m a “cool cat” kind of styling.
since you hip hop dance, i’m sure the club latin/rhythm dances will be no problem for you (you just may need time to work on your frame/posture – i ranted about posture in the monday quiz post a week ago, ha ha). damn, if you lived in montreal i would hook you up with a discount for club latin lessons, because i teach it too.
sometimes you can totally beat people in hip hop battles by pulling out some salsa move you know the other person can’t copy – i’ve done this numerous times!
happy dancing (and happy adoption of tabs) 😀
