Mark your calendars! Here in the States, May 13 is Mother’s Day (click here to find out when it falls in your country). Want to get Mom something special this year? Looking for gift ideas? Check back over the next few days for a different Mother’s Day gorgeous gift idea (a new special something with which to spoil Mom). 🙂
My mom is the only person I know who makes a sour face whenever she drinks orange juice. She scrunches up her nose and knits her brow, as if she’s just bitten into the sourest lemon on planet earth.
To this day, whenever I see a carton of orange juice, I think of my mom standing in front of the fridge at home with a glass of juice in her hand. “It has vitamin C,” she’d say, and then slam it down and make that funny face. “Very good for you!”
LOL!
OK, so she may not be crazy about orange juice, but she absolutely adores citrus scents. If your mom does, too, she just might love Bois d’Orange Emperor Fresh Fragrant Water, a limited edition fragrance from Roger & Gallet, a 150-year-old French fragrance line.
Moms who appreciate hard-to-find luxury brands might like that it isn’t carried in every store. It can be hard to find here in the U.S. This particular bottle, one of three new pieces in the limited edition Emperor collection, is currently available online at Shop Londons (you can also find permanent Roger & Gallet fragrance, body and bath items online at Dermstore).
A few spritzes of this light and fresh citrus scent last about three hours on me, like a body splash, and here’s a fun fact: The tall, thin bottle is flat along one side…just like the fragrance bottles favored by Napoleon I.
His soldiers liked bottles shape liked that because it made them easier to slip into a boot. 🙂
This post is part of series called Mother’s Day Gorgeous Gift Ideas. For more ideas, check out…
Bois d’Orange is a very bright, fresh fragrance — not overly girly — and almost gender neural, so don’t be surprised if Dad tries to bogart a spritz for himself here and there.

It sounds nice! And the bottle is beautiful!
Karen says
Hi CrystalCandy,
It’s a really refreshing scent. Are you into scents/perfumes?
Antonia at Swedish Love Affair says
Love love love this brand! I’ve stopped counting how many bottles of their dry oil I’ve used up!
Karen says
Oh, I’ve been curious about that product. Is it very moisturizing?
Ines, Cha Cha & LeRoux says
Roger & Gallet is available in pharmacies here in Quebec… Odd. I do like their Cedrat and Bambou scents though!
Karen says
Good to know. If I’m ever in Quebec I’ll have to hunt them down!

The bottle is so pretty. The scent sounds lovely too. I love citrus scents.
Karen says
Hi Gio,
Me too. What are your favorite citrus scents?
Nina says
Im like your mom. I find OJ to be soooo sour. Well except the fresh squeed OJ from a local grocery store here thats just so yum. 🙂
The scent sounds amazing!
Karen says
Hi Nina,
That’s so funny to me. Can you handle grapefruit juice? For some reason my mom cool with grapefruit juice…
Nina says
I dont really like grapefruit or grapefruit juice but can drink cranberry juice.
Speaking of grapefruit though, we bought the strangest beer ever — its called Shiner Ruby Redbird and its got some grapefruit in the brew. Its a great, light summer beer thats awesome cold and straight from the freezer! 🙂
Actually, I wanted to buy it initially because the packaging was sooo pretty! Thats why the hubs doesnt trust me to buy wine or beer – I buy the stuff w/ the pretty labels thats not necessarily great tasting LOL!!! v
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Ooo we get this brand everywhere here! I’ve been tempted to try SOMETHING (like anything, because it all looks pretty cool) but haven’t got around to doing it! My own mother has very low tolerance to sourness as well, but I THINK she’s OK with orange juice haha
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
Funny how beauty products that are exotic in one corner of the world are everyday items in other parts, huh?
Becca says
Huh, I’ve never actually heard of Roger and Gallet, but I just searched for a description of the scent and it sounds lovely! My mom doesn’t like citrus scents, so I may just have to find her something else for Mother’s Day and keep this one all to myself!! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Becca,
They’re new to me too. I do love this scent, though, and might have to hunt down the other bath/body items from the line. They have a body oil that sounds lovely!
If you end up getting this and keeping it for yourself I won’t tell, LOL!
Hope you’re having a good week so far. Anything new to report?
Tracy says
I so wanted to pick up some Roger and Gallet when I was in Paris last year, but it was so hard to take back the bottles without making my suitcase so heavy! I remember sniffing them all though and I loved everyone I sniffed. Which was another reason I didn’t bring some home-I would have been every single bottle on the shelf!
Karen says
Hi Tracy,
Oh, Paris. One of my favorite cities. 🙂 The same thing happened to me in the Annick Goutal store when I was there. Somehow I managed to exercise some self restraint and walked away with just two bottles.
How long was your trip? Did you go for fun or for work?
Tracy says
We went to London, Paris, Rome in 2 weeks-we took our daughter to Europe as a graduation gift!
It was our first time and I so want to go back.
Kim says
It sounds lovely and I’m glad to know that drugstores in QC carry it. Since that’s only a hop, skip and jump away from me, I’ll check it out the next time I’m across the border.
Also, thanks for the fun fact on Napoleon’s army. Since I’m sure baths were few and far between, it’s nice to know that the soldiers cared about one another’s noses. 🙂
