There’s a lot to consider when sniffing out a new fragrance or scented product to love, like…how it makes me feel, what memories it calls to mind, how well it works (if it’s something other than a perfume), how much it costs, etc. — but I also take into account the people around me — mainly, my boyfriend. He’s highly sensitive to scents! And also allergic to avocado…so anything made with avocado oils or butters (which rules out a LOT of things from Lush, for instance) is a no-no in our household.
Both of these two new fragrances that I’ve been wearing lately — Elie Saab Rose Couture Le Parfum and Ralph Lauren Tender Romance — are not only 100% recommended by me, but they’re also 100% approved by my scent-sitive (ha!) boyfriend.
First, there’s Rose Coutour, and we all know how much I love rose scents. 🙂 As I’ve said it time and time again.
I have a hard time describing individual rose scents nowadays because of how popular they are at the moment. This one’s top notes are blended with peony, and they circle down to a rose nectar base and a finish with just a dash of vanilla and jasmine.
That I would I fall in love with this fragrance was a no-brainer, but it’s all of the little details that really bring it home, like the beautiful bottle.
“The perfumer Francis Kurkdjian has harvested this Rose Couture from the heart of ELIE SAAB Le Parfum, whose radiant Orange Blossom is brightened by rose petal honey. Magnified and showcased in the new eau de toilette, the rose asserts itself more majestically.
“In the soaring top notes, it blends with fresh Peony into a whirlwind of silken petals. The delectable dew melts into an exquisite Rose Nectar, enhanced with fruity facets and softened with a dash of Vanilla. This addictive accord is carried by a breath of Jasmine as sheer as silk chiffon…
“A sumptuous woody base bolsters the airy composition, just as a tight-woven fabric adds structure to a flowing sheath. The voluptuous satin of Sandalwood. And the dark velvet of Patchouli which, by contrast, exalts the freshness of these radiant floral materials…”
— ELIE SAAB
Like a rare, precious jewel, the multifaceted bottle also adds to the overall effect when I put this on.
And then there’s Ralph Lauren Tender Romance, the latest addition to the Ralph Lauren Romance line. I have to be a little cheesy now and say that this scent really does make me feel a little extra romantic when I wear it.
A delicate blend of fresh ginger, white magnolia, and soft cashmere, it lends itself to something you might wear on a first date, or, even after you’ve been together a few years, like I have with my boyfriend.
The rectangular bottle evokes the clean-cut design of the Romance line. While I don’t think it’s as visually interesting as the Elie Saab bottle, I do appreciate its simplicity.
Not only do I love both of these fragrances, but I also like that my boyfriend does too. I like that he enjoys what he smells when he gives me a hug or a kiss while I’m wearing them.
Have you tried either of these scents? Do you have a significant other who’s sensitive to products that you wear? Do you think rose scents are overdone as of late, or, like me, will you never tire of them?

I looooove the original Elie Saab, so I bet I’d like Rose Couture as well, mmmmm!

I’ve never gotten a whiff of the original!

I feel like rose scents are overdone, but that is mainly because I still remember the old-fashioned, powdery ones my grandma used to use.

I really love powdery rose scents as well! There’s this powder and body cream from Avon that my mom had growing up, and I had to order it from my sister when she started selling Avon products. It was the Sweet Honesty powder and it smelled so lovely.

A rose scent sounds fantastic

I’m currently loving Viva la Juicy Rose. It doesn’t have a stronge rose scent, maybe a little sweeter. It reminds me a bit of an older Victoria’s Secret collection – Strawberries and Champage.

I’d have to try both, I like FK’s work though. since your BF has allergies/sensitivities you might want to try JHAG Not A Perfume. It’s made with a synthetic amber like compound that is hypoallergenic.

I’ve tried a sample of one of the JHAG scents, but I’m not sure I know this one. It sounds like something I’d love. 🙂

Tender Romance was calling to me the other day. I might have to give it a second look!
Marcella Yakalis says
You should! It’s smells amazing!
