I’m sorry not sorry, but it’s right there, so I gotta do it: Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer ($18) is BOMB. Yet another pleasant surprise from Rihanna’s new makeup line. There’s only one lip product in it — this gloss. One. Seriously, who does that? Riri does, folks.
It’s a medium pigment rosy nude with fine golden sparkle, and gah! — so pretty. It’s first thing I put in my basket when I rolled up to the Fenty Beauty display at Sephora. No hesitation.
Apparently, the scars of college chem will never leave me because I shouted “THAT TUBE IS SHAPED LIKE AN AZOLE” in my head when I saw the packaging.
Shh, inside voice, Karen…
When you open it up, BAM! There’s a massive doe-foot applicator. Seriously, half the wand is the doe foot. It’s big and it’s useful. I do one swipe across my lower lip (no mirror needed), and I’m freaking done, which is kind of awesome.
The color is described as a universally flattering rose, juuust deep enough to show up on pigmented lips, but not so deep that it dramatically contrasts with lighter skin.
I’m a golden tan gal right around the middle of the skin-tone spectrum, and I feel like it’s a there-but-not-too-far-over-there color. It’s just right.
Disclaimer: I’m a little hungry right now…but I think it tastes and smells like vanilla ice cream topped with grilled peaches and drizzled with honey. 🙂 Almost like pie, but the flavor and fragrance are faint and won’t be all up in your nose and taste buds all day long.
The moisturizing formula feels comfy and isn’t sticky at all. I get about two hours of wear time.
Comparing it to MAC, just because MAC is one of the first brands that comes to my mind, it feels like a MAC Plushglass (without the tingle), so it’s thicker than a MAC Cremesheen Glass but thinner than a Lipglass.
Even though I’ve seen similar colors before in other lines (Guerlain Browny Clap and MAC Big Baby Plushglass), Gloss Bomb’s fine pearl kicks it up a notch. This bad boy completely stands on its own. All around, I’d call it perfect.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Mmm… the applicator is massive and it sounds really good in terms of quality. I wouldn’t go out of my way though to get this one. Looks gorgeous on you and it does look like a universally flattering shade. xx

I’m not sure if I like the applicator, the formulation and color seem good though. I’ll have to test it.

Riri can take my money, I went to Sephora today and I tried the primer, the foundation, the concealer and one of the highlighting sticks. I’m impressed about how natural the base products look yet it covers most of my pimples. I didn’t buy because I don’t have enough money and also I’ve just bought another L’Oréal foundation.
So now because I’m nosy I want to know which foundation shade you were using, I got matched to 310 so I want to now if we are the same shade.

Hi Efra,
I’ve been wearing 310, although I might exchange it for 300 because I think it just might be a touch too warm on me. I’m glad you were able to take a look at the line today. Did you check out the powder?
Efrain says
Somehow I missed the powder and since I always want to try foundations without powder the first time, I didn’t ask for it.
Today was one of those days when you pamper yourself window shopping. I tried a Chanel lippie (I love it so I cried internally because of the price) and then went to Jo Malone and received an arm and hand massage; everything was better after yesterday which was a hard day.
How has been your week so long?
Karen says
I’ll have the powder review up soon but all I have to say is you’re not missing much.
Which Chanel lipstick did you try? I know, they’re so expensive and it hurts so much. I love the Rouge Cocos and the Rouge Allure Velvets. Those are my faves from the lines. Did you go window shopping with anyone? Hope you were able to grab something good to eat while you were at the shops.
Sorry to hear that you had such a rough day. I think maybe something’s going on cosmically because yesterday was challenging for me too. Mercury’s gotta be in retrograde or something. LOL. Glad today was better though. And tomorrow something good will happen too. 🙂

I tried the Rogue Coco Shine in Noir Moderne, I’m all about dark sheer lipsticks so I loved it.
I went with a friend before our afternoon class so I only got an ice cream and she got a patisserie.
I’m sure tomorrow will be a great day. Sending you good vibes all the way to Novato.

That’s the only product from the Fenty Beauty that I’ve bought so far! I think it’s a great everyday lip gloss, flattering and not over the top. And I’m so glad to see a new brand releasing a gloss rather than a liquid matte lipstick, lol!
Lupe says
This and the foundation are the only things I want to try. Riri can take all my money!
Eesha says
I like that it isn’t sticky.. and the shade would a perfect everyday color over a nude/ nudish pink lipliner.

I noticed it immediately in your Fenty foundation post but also kind of chalked it up to the Karen Effect (all lip colors look great on you). So glad to hear it IS actually great. 🙂 And thanks for the chem reminder. Now I’ll be secretly calling people “azoles” all day. HAHA! Just kidding.

I wanted to love this gloss so much, but it falls short for me. I love the smell and the applicator – one swipe and you’re done, and it’s comfortable to use. But for my rather pale lips, there is not enough color and shine. After I put the gloss on, it didn’t look like I used anything in terms of color and the shine itself was minimal. However, what really broke the deal for me was the stickiness. My hair is similar in length and style to yours, Karen, and I found that it kept sticking to my lips constantly. I thought that maybe I used too much gloss, so I just put on a tiniest bit (which meant zero color enhancement, zero shine, zero effect) and the hair kept gravitating to the gloss anyway. My lips felt sticky for hours after application (ok, so it has a good staying power). I have never encountered such a sticky gloss, to be honest. I wanted to like this makeup line so much, but so far it doesn’t look rosy.

I’m with you Karen, I the gloss balm was the only thing I picked up from @FentyBeauty and I LOVE it! I think I’m going to pick up another as back up. To me it’s the perfect “nude”…a natural rosy sheer with just enough micro shimmer to make your lips pop but it wears as smooth as silk. I also love how it wears down throughout the day. It’s really really good.
Best, Lisa @LittleMama71

As someone with full lips, I really appreciate the larger doe foot! I don’t have to swipe a million times to cover my lips! Maybe one day makeup companies will allow us to pick the applicator size and type for our lip products, so that every person can get exactly what’s right for them!
