Yup, don’t mind me. I’m just chillin’ here by the discounted designer sunglasses — you know, taking selfies, mugging for the camera, the usual. 🙂
It happened purely by accident this afternoon. I was walking around Nordies (it’s their Half-Yearly Sale) and came up with what I think is a pretty handy fashion tip.
You see, I’m my mother’s daughter (the woman hasn’t paid full price for anything, like, EVER), and a bunch of the sunglasses were on sale.
So here’s the tip: it’s kind of hard to see what you actually look like when you’re trying on sunglasses in a store, am I right? Even with the mirrors. First, the glasses are tinted, and then there’s the overhead lighting, which is the opposite of flattering and almost never color accurate.
So. I started snapping selfies and realized — dang! It’s a pretty good way to see if a style of glasses is working.
Of course, you know that I had to share this newfound knowledge with the ladies next to me in the store, and pretty soon all of us were trying on sunglasses and taking selfies with our phones, haha!
I think I may have accidentally triggered a sunglasses selfie shopping movement. 🙂
Those Aviators by Ray Ban in the top pic were the first ones that caught my eye (very punny!).
I felt like Carrie Bradshaw at a baseball park circa the SATC early years.
That pair was also very comfortable, but I nixed them because I think you have to be extremely stylish or starring in an old episode of CHiPs (remember that show?) to pull them off successfully.
Next, this pair of tortoiseshell Kate Spade cat eye glasses. I liked the shape, but since they weren’t one of the pairs on sale (They somehow got mixed up with the sale stuff… Don’t you hate that?), they were a no-go.
The last pair I tried on was this pair by Tory Burch, the 56mm Cat Eye Sunglasses.
Hello, sassy-pants!
They were originally $149, marked down to $98, and also come with a case, a pouch and a two-year warranty.
And since my birthday is in a couple weeks… 🙂
I haven’t been able to find them online in this same shade, but your local store might have them in stock (here’s the red ones, but they’re full price, if you’re interested).
Yeah, of course the cat lady would end up with cat eye sunglasses…

I have some cheap aviators – aviators are my favorite, but there seem to be different shapes of aviators, and some look really awful on me, and some look good. I’ve been wearing glasses lately though, so no sunnies for me.
Karen says
Your eyes! Are they better today?
Chelsea says
Yes Ma’am! Contacts in with no problems! Also some winged out liner.

Love them and your perfect looking white T! Where did you get it from??
Karen says
Thank you, Melissa. It’s from Anthropologie. I got it last year.

Stilll looking for the perfect aviators, not luck yet on style or prize.
Karen says
Have you tried the Ray Bans? They’re pretty nice!
Icequeen81 says
yes I did but here they are pretty expensive, 🙁 I think 2x or maybe 3 than In USA, but they don’t breng all the models here either.

After much thought I decided that I needed a pair of Aviators in my life but the typical tear drop shaped Ray Bans just don’t look right on me. So I was determined to find a pair that did. I also have a thing that if you can see my eyes through the lenses I automatically nix them right away. But you’re right about the lighting in the stores. I fell in love with a pair of Ralph Lauren aviators but sadly they were polarized and made my digital display and touchscreen in my car look all crazy wonky and had to be returned. I might have to try your new tip the next time I go looking again.

I did this same thing Sunday 🙂 Love the tortoise shell and aviators on you! I’m trying to find a pair of aviators that work with my…triangular?…nose. Thank goodness for selfies because I was saved from a couple pairs that weren’t so flattering after all.

I am cartoonishly nearsighted – I can’t see ANYTHING without my glasses, and I could never do contacts – and the “selfie mode” on the iPhone camera is a lifesaver when picking out frames! I held up the phone, took the picture, and put my prescription glasses back on to check out the results.
