Okay, well, I told myself a while back that I wouldn’t buy any more clothes from the juniors department, but I may or may not have violated that with this dress from RVCA (pronounced “roo-kuh”).
They’re a casual line of surf-inspired SoCal clothing for guys and gals.
They’ve been around a while, but I’d never tried any of their stuff until recently, when I ordered a couple of tops and dresses on sale from Haute Look earlier this spring thinking that I’d be able to wear them when it warmed up outside.
And then I come to find out that the line’s also carried locally at stores like Tilly’s at the mall…where I always see teenagers hanging out.
This dress here isn’t super fancy at all, but it has subtle little flashes of flair that I like — a hem that’s slightly longer in the back, and a little twist in the straps.
I can’t seem to find this exact dress online right now, but here’s a similar design, the $40 RVCA High Priestess dress, if you’re interested.
Since there really isn’t much to the dress, I added some extra zip with a rose-colored cuff — which reminds me, I’ve been seeing rose gold everywhere lately! I guess it’s the metal of the moment — and some long feather earrings.
SHOES!
My favorite part. I’m wearing nude platforms here to make me look like I have longer gams, an illusion I use all the time, thanks to my towering 5’1″ frame.
Oh, and reason number 5,678 why I love shoes? They make it so easy to change up an outfit! — like to give this look a tougher, less girly edge, I might swap the platforms for a pair of ankle boots.
Now, where can I go to test out this outfit? Hmm…
Let’s see…fro-yo, movies, Japanese food, Trader Joe’s, Target, Panera, Petco, Sephora, See’s or all of the above? 🙂
What are you up to tonight? How was your afternoon?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hi Bessie,
Thanks! 🙂 How was your Friday? Good, I hope.

Super cute! Love it on you!

Thanks, Tracy. I hope you had a nice Friday. What are you up to this weekend?

I think you look great, and the way you paired it up with accessories doesn’t make it look junior at all.
My head is spinning after Brian’s visit today. He is very detail oriented and I am not good with details at all. They tend to overwhelm me. It’s a little weird to switch gears mentally from having all these things I haven’t been able to do to now having people around who want to make it possible to do everything I never even thought about.
Oh, and as to your comment on the other topic about Missy getting outside with a leash, I don’t see that happening. She goes outside all the time but never leaves the property. The older she gets the more of a homebody she becomes. It’s enough of a struggle getting a collar on her, I can’t imagine the bloodshed from trying to add a harness!

Pretty! I love the hem and the twist at the back, little details make it all the best eh? You are looking so glowing Karen! I love the feather earrings and the wedges, it gives that little extra jazz to the outfit without going overboard ^^. Happy weekend Karen!

Supah cute!! I love the twist in the back

I LOVE LOVE LOVE both pairs of shoes! I’ve been looking for a cute pair of ankle boots for so long, but I have a problem finding shoes because my feet are so skinny lol. And go short people! I’m only 4′ 11″ haha.

I try not to shop in the junior’s section, also, but they do have some cute stuff that doesn’t scream, “TEENYBOPPER!”. You’re 5’1″???!!! No way!!!! I’ve imagined you as a taller Filipina, but I think that’s due to your positive personality on the bloggy blog. 🙂
I’ve noticed the rose gold trend, also. I like it, but never tried it. I’m keen on yellow gold (it goes well against our tan skin!), but I’ll have to give rose gold a try! 🙂 My hair stylist told me about Haute Look, but I must be checking on it at the wrong times because I end up seeing stuff that just doesn’t catch my interest. :/
Hope the weekend treats you well! Love this dress and the ideas you gave about how to change it up 🙂

You’re looking stunning Karen… I want that dress for Summer!

Love the dress and the wegdjes

Love this outfit.
I say if the outfit and item looks good, go for it no matter which section it’s in. A lot of the juniors shops and departments have items which don’t look like they’re just for teens. I’ve found the juniors clothes fit me better than the women’s.

Super cute! I’m always scared to ordered clothing off of Hautelook because every brand does sizing a little differently and I hate returning online orders.

You look great! You should do more outfits of the day.

Is that a Pierre Hardy bangle? I love it! Have you seen the ‘new’ NARS blushes featuring the same signature print? There are also nail polish duos inspired by PH shoes! Can’t decide if I love the look-factor of the blushes enough to buy them despite the fact that it’s likely overspray…anyway if you haven’t seen them, check them out here: http://www.narscosmetics.com/the-latest/collections/newest-collections-from-nars/pierre-hardy-for-nars-collection
