It feels good to be wearing, like, real clothes, because before I put on this outfit, I was wearing pajamas…and running down the street, barefoot, chasing a DHL delivery truck and yelling “STOP!” at the top of my lungs.
I was also waving a very strange six-foot long tube-like package in the air while I was doing this. At almost six months pregnant. Of course.
Basically, DHL mistakenly delivered it this morning, and by the time I realized that it wasn’t for me (I signed for it and everything), the DHL van was almost a block away!
I freaked out! I ran out the door barefoot in my PJs and chased them down…as awkwardly as a rather pregnant barefoot woman could run. Luckily, they must have either seen my awkward hobbling or heard my shouts, because they stopped, and yes, they were laughing.
I took the incident as a sign to change my clothes when I got home…
(Oh, and I have no idea what the long tube-like package was.)
And here’s my outfit! Nothing is designated maternity. It’s all just normal clothes.
That’s the Cozystitch Sweater Dress by Loft in Teal Night Melange, which I grabbed on sale for 40% off a few weeks ago, so I suggest waiting until the next sale instead of buying it full price (I am sooo my mother’s daughter). I like it because it’s soft, cozy and has some stretch, so there’s lots of room to rock a tum.
It also comes in two more shades — Toasty Camel and Dark Ruby. I saw both of them in the store, too, and they’re also very cute.
I paired the dress with these suede over-the-knee boots from Sam Edelman that I got last season (for 50% off!) because I like how the shorter hem of the dress looks with the high boots. But if you don’t like over-the-knee boots, I bet black tights and black booties would work great, too.
To complete the outfit, I added a chambray top (also from LOFT last spring), a leopard-print J. Crew belt (which, once upon a time, fit around my hips), a J. Crew Excursion Quilted Vest and a plaid infinity scarf.
I wanted to get a little dressed up today because I met a couple of girlfriends for high tea in San Francisco this afternoon. We went to the Neiman Marcus Rotunda in Union Square (AMAZING views, fun high-tea service with savory sandwiches and those tiny cakes). It was just me, Marisol and Arianne from Glitter Geek, and I got to meet Arianne’s new baby, Sarah Rose, who’s three months old (and VERY cute).
I had a great time, and I didn’t have to do any more barefoot running, yay! 🙂
In other news, are you as ready for Friday as I am?? This week flew by, but it still felt long (yes, I know that sounds weird). I’m plum tuckered out.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Lauren S. says
SO ready for Friday!
Karen says
You and me both, Lauren! What’s the plan for the weekend?
Agata says
I love your outfit! You are such a chic and trendy little pregnant woman! I love the boots with the short dress on you.
I am so jealous you met the Glitter Geek and her baby girl! Sounds like you guys had fun!
Karen says
I even got to hold Sarah!!! And she pulled my hair! 🙂
LindaLibraLoca says
I try to stick to non-maternity stuff for clothing too, because I don’t want to spend a lot of money on clothes I will probably never wear again. The oversize trend at the moment is a life savior.
Not that anything looks oversize on me at the moment, but it will again someday.
Karen says
Definitely there with you with the oversized sweaters. Oh, and thank goodness for black leggings and tights and booties, too!
LindaLibraLoca says
Yes, leggings!
Even though I have to admit there isn’t anything more comfortable than maternity jeans. The transition back to regular ones was hard!
Lauren says
Gawwwd, 6 months pregnsnt, and the most fashionable, adorable person evaa!! Absolutely love everything about this look!!
Barefoot and pregnant running after DHL…you made me entire weekend!!
Happy Friday, fashionista friend!!
Karen says
It was cray-cray. I will forever wonder what was in that package… It was shaped so oddly and the only writing on the outside was Chinese!
By the way, did you ever figure out the oven situation?!
Lauren says
Oh, hun, I bet there was a million bucks cash rolled up! And you signed for it!! Jk jk! I am sticking w stove top cooking for now! It’s easy…if there’s a flame, it works! 😉 any weekend plans? Gonna chase fed ex??
Karen says
Haha, only if I can do it barefoot! LOLOL
My brother is coming over tonight. We’re going to dinner at The Cheesecake Factory and then he’s spending the night! Should be fun because I haven’t seen him in a while. What are you up to?
Sara says
I just bought that dress last week! I thought it was perfect for a growing bump:)
So I couldn’t wait to tell you I had my first trimester screening yesterday and found out it’s a GIRL! So now your baby girl will have an online bff hehe
Karen says
CONGRATULATIONS, SARA! I’m so happy and excited for you and your little girl. 🙂
Oh, wait until you visit the babies section. The clothes for girls are too cute for words!
Kiss & Make-up says
Cute outfit! It’s warm, cozy and comfy but the fact that we’re still seeing a bit of leg makes it kinda sexy, too!
Karen says
Yeah, gotta love the high boots for that. 🙂
jessica says
Oh CUUUTE!
Karen says
Thank you, TGIF!
Chris25 says
I love the teal dress on you! I saw their Toasty Camel version and I like that one too. Maybe it will buy it once I get paid.
Karen says
Hi Chris,
The toasty camel one is really pretty! I briefly thought about it but it looked too close to my skin tone. I hope you get it! I want someone to have it. LOL!
Kim says
You look fab, as always! 🙂 And, OMG, been there. When I was pregnant (and, like honestly, twice your size), I picked up one of the cats from the vet. She’s the cranky one (and the terrified staff was backing away, even with the chainmail and leather, over-the-elbow gloves). I was holding her while they were removing a bandage and, naturally, she bit me… in a vein in my arm… so every time my heart pumped, blood shot out of my arm. HAHA! I was fairly disgruntled and when I got home and opened the car door, she’d busted out of her crate and took off. Just as the pizza delivery guy was walking up the driveway. So it’s me, frazzled and big as a house with blood all over me yelling to the Hubs who’s in an air cast chasing a crazy cat around the yard. Oh, hai… good, you? What do we owe you for the pizza? HAHA! Poor kid must have thought he’d walked into an asylum!
Karen says
This story made me spit out my tea, I was laughing so much! 🙂 I would really love to know where cats get the Hulk strength to bust out of their crates. Tabs did that the last time he went to the vet. And of course, he was covered in cat poop and barf (poor guy hates the car), and then he climbed all over El Hub…
Kim says
I’m glad you liked it! HAHA! Even when he chased her (well, hobbled and lumbered behind her, hollering like a fruitcake) into the house, it wasn’t over because she had blood on her paws and left little prints all over the rug/up the stairs. Our carpet color is almost exactly like yours (thank goodness for good Scotchguard!). Poor El Hub (and poor Tabs). I’ve yet to meet a cat that likes the car. Or the vet, for that matter! And you’re right about the crate. Even when you think it’s cinched down, they can somehow bust out!
Karen says
OH MY GOSH! The tiny little paw prints!! See, this is why you can never anticipate anything with cats actually going to plan. Just go ahead and assume everything’s going to go terribly wrong and you should be good.
Next time we prep Tabs for a visit I’m going to try bungee cording the crate shut. Not that that will help, because I’m sure he’ll summon the powers of all his feline predecessors to find n way to escape.
Have you heard of the Thundershirt, by the way? It’s like a kitty vest that’s supposed to help calm cats down. I haven’t tried it yet on Tabs but I really want to:

Ruchita says
I love your outfits posts! That sweater dress looks so cute and comfy. It would be great for fall and winter here in Ohio with tights and tall boots.
Soo glad it’s Friday because work has been crazy this week. I am wearing clothes and makeup and made it to work so I consider that a success. Whether or not I’m actually functioning is another story. 🙂 TGIF!
Karen says
That is a success! You deserve a medal for surviving the week. 🙂 Oh, and some brownies and some kittens.
What’s the plan for the weekend? My brother is visiting tonight and having dinner with us and spending the night, and tomorrow I’m going to another Sephora class. 🙂
TGIF!
Ruchita says
My only plan this weekend is to not work. 🙂 I’m working on a software release that is going live in a couple of weeks, so last weekend was spent catching up on testing to make sure nothing is broken!
Oh and that was a funny story about the DHL truck! I’m glad you were able to catch them. It can be a pain to try and get packages exchanged.
Have fun with your brother! Is he excited about being an uncle? Mine lives in DC so I don’t get to see him too often. My mom always asks me to see if I can get any info about his dating life because he never tells her anything! Such a mom thing to do. 🙂
Karen says
Oh, that’s exciting stuff! I hope that the release goes smoothly and that everything goes according to plan. *crosses fingers*
And that’s a great plan for the weekend, by the way. I hope the kitties take good care of you!
Honestly, I’m not sure if my brother is excited. I really haven’t talked to him much since I told him we were having a baby. He’s a single guy living in SF so I guess he’s just really busy with life stuff, plus I don’t know if guys ever get as excited about babies as ladies do, ya know? I kind of had to guilt him into coming over, LOL! But you gotta do what you gotta do.
How many years are you and your brother apart? My brother is six years younger than I am. Oh, and that’s so funny that your mom does that. Mine does THE SAME EXACT THING! She also asks me if he has any new tattoos that he hasn’t told her about, LOL!
Ruchita says
Your brother sounds like mine! He’s nine years younger than me. I remember when he was younger he’d try and hang out with me and my friends and I used to get so annoyed.
But then I moved out and went to college so we kind of drifted apart. Unfortunately, we’re not very close and it’s more difficult since he’s out of state. So funny that your mom does the same thing! That made me laugh. 🙂
Karen says
When you guys were young, did your parents always make you take him with you to places?! Mine did that all the time and I hated it. Why would a 10-year old boy want to hang out with a bunch of 16-year old teenage girls? INSANITY.
Lena says
you goofball! and you gonna be one hot mama!
oooh, two of my fave beauty bloggers, i hope you too pics and put it up on ista!
have a great weekend, karen!
Karen says
You have a great weekend, too, Lena!
Tatiana says
Very chic! Tea at Neimans sounds fun. I’ll have to check it out sometime. I’ve never been up to the rotunda.
Karen says
You should do it! When you make reservations and ask for one of the tables with a view for Union Square. It’s a little pricey for high tea ($45, yowza) but it’s great for the ambiance and the food is yummy.
TGIF to you!
Rachel says
Why buy full price? If you get it on sale you can get twice as much, that’s my logic anyways! Cute outfit! Yeah I am always happy for Friday but by the time it gets here I am totally exhausted from the week! Tomorrow I am going to Bemidji, MN to watch a recording of “A Prairie Home Companion”! So excited to get out of town for a bit!
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
My sentiments exactly! And seriously, LOFT has a sale every five seconds. I absolutely refuse to pay full price for anything there. How exciting that you’re going to out of town! Do you have any other additional fun things lined up, like restaurants you’re going to eat at and sightseeing spots you want to visit?
Rachel says
I’m sure we’ll find a couple good places to eat at, it’s kind of a tourist town so there’s lots to choose from! My boyfriends brother lives there so I’m sure he’ll know the best spots!
Karen says
How nice! It’s always good to have an insider clue you in on the best places to go. I hope you have fun. Oh, and don’t leave packing until the last minute, because you might end up throwing a bunch of stuff you don’t need in your bag, which is what I did when I visited my in-laws last week. Half the stuff I didn’t even need! I’m not a light packer though.
Rachel says
I haven’t even thought about packing yet, LOL! I have my outfit picked out though so that’s the hardest part!
Kwmechelle says
Don’t be offended if I’m laughing at you right now. Not because you ran down the street barefoot in your pj’s. No, I’m laughing because you did all of the above while. SIX. MONTHS. PREGNANT! Karen, you’re crazy & die hard & bad a$$. You just took Renaissance woman to a whole new level. Note to self: never accidentally deliver package to Karen’s house ’cause I’m on the East Coast & that would be bad. Really bad. You score major points for making sure somebody’s really happy because they got their package today. And what if there was makeup in it that they were planning to wear TODAY?! Crisis averted! And you look super cute. But NO MORE RUNNING, k? ?
Karen says
For the rest of my life, I’ll always wonder what was in that package. It was so oddly shaped and all the writing on the outside was in Chinese!! And yes, no more running. I might wobble if I have to (because that’s what it looks like, really), but I’ll do it only if zombies are chasing me. I promise.
TGIF to ya, by the way! I’m so happy that the weekend is just around the corner. Watcha doing? My brother is visiting tonight and having dinner with us and spending the night. I think we’re going to the Cheesecake Factory. 😀
Kwmechelle says
You hereby have my permission to do the wobble at all times. Did you see the vid of the lady in labor at an Atlanta hospital doing the nene? Yeah, if I ever go into labor, I want whatever she’s having! You should look up the vid. The hospital is in Atlanta, where I lived for about 7 years. She’s def representing for us Atl-liens. Speaking of aliens, I’m currently jamming to Outkast’s Rosa Parks. I know Ms. Parks didn’t agree that this song is a cultural icon, but I’m jamming anyway. Headed to the beach for the weekend because my church is having a women’s retreat. We’re staying in two big beach houses. I can’t wait. Enjoy your brother & The Cheesecake Factory. That place is heaven on earth. Yum!!
Lorraine says
love the cozy cuteness of this outfit, and especially where you went in it. How cool = tea at the Rotunda with glam ladies + adorable baby? My real question is, what did you all haul in the Neimans cosmetics department downstairs after tea? I guess we need to stay tuned to your blogs to find out.
Karen says
Hi Lorraine,
I wish I could say I walked away with something exciting but I ended up not getting anything. I KNOW!!! I needed to save my $ for the Sephora VIB sale today. Le. Sigh. There were some major temptations over at Tom Ford though! I want another quad and a bottle of perfume.
Trude says
Looking so cute, mama-to-be! 🙂 I’m loving that dress! And that’s what’s so great about Loft, just wait a day and there will be another sale.
Pamela Haddad says
Another cool outfit! You have a great style! Sorry you had to run down the DHL truck, though!
Iris says
You’re very kind to run after the DHL van especially while pregnant. Kudos to you, and you’ve made someone happy their delivery is on time. 🙂
Kellie says
OMG, Karen that made me laugh out loud!! Glad you are okay and got to wear real clothes 🙂 I wonder what was in the package….
