We are cat ladies; hear us ROAR!
Or at least meow… Meeeeeow!
I was really feelin’ the cat lady love at the San Francisco Union Square H&M store yesterday, where I was perusing the maternity section, but it was hard to concentrate because I kept getting distracted by things like this adorable outfit with a navy blue top and tiny short-shorts.
It has cats all OVER it!
Look at it styled on this mannequin with a taupe purse and black booties (the picture at the top). If I wasn’t so round at the moment, I’d be all over it.
They also had a white short-sleeve tee with a little pocket in the same print, but the fabric felt a little scratchy.
Super cute though.
Eventually, I focussed long enough in the maternity section to find this…
A pair of gray Mama Skinny Jeans ($39). (Yup, they make maternity skinnies! Who knew?!). I also got this stretchy Jersey Top ($12.99) (91% cotton, 6% rayon, 3% spandex).
I’m so glad I tried the top on because I wasn’t into the stripes when I saw it online.
I dunno why, but horizontal stripes are always up in the mix with maternity clothes, and I’m not always into them, but this piece felt really soft so I tried it on.
And I’m glad I did. I figure that I can always switch it up by layering it with scarves, boyfriend sweaters, flannels and statement necklaces.
Couple things about H&M’s maternity stuff… Their tops fit true to size on me, so I didn’t have to size up or down. As for the denim, I’d go up one or two sizes because the hips are very slim, and if you find something you like, you might want to try multiple pieces in the same style and size, because the fit is all over the place! No two of the same size are alike.
Also, it looks like you can only return purchases by mail if you shop H&M online, so no in-store returns… Hrmpf!
Oh, for the record, there is a dire lack of cat-themed clothing for pregnant chicks, in case you were wondering. Why this has been allowed to happen, I have no idea, because it’s a travesty. If you’re an aspiring fashion designer who happens to be reading this, that’s an untapped market right there.
I did strike cat lady gold in the children’s section, though. Actually, “Cat Lady in Training” gold. There are SO many cute cat-themed clothes for little girls and babies, and I would totally wear most of them if they were available in adult size.
Like these shorts? If these shorts came in adult size, I’d be all over ’em.
Or these dresses…
This little gray dress with the colorful cat heads, tho!! I think I may have seen an adult wearing something like this once… Not a child, mind you, but a full-grown woman.
Think about it — with an oversized boyfriend sweater and some black biker boots? SO CUTE.
I’m very excited about the prospect of dressing up a certain someone who’s going to be making her big debut in March. 🙂
I only got Baby Girl one thing in the store, but I really WANTED to get this coat with the cat pockets. El Hub was like, “She’s not going to be old enough to wear it for a year. Why get it now?” so I set it down…which made me a little sad. 🙁
I did, however, get her this newborn onesie that says “Prrrrfect” in light pink under the cat (you can’t really see it in this pic). It also has matching polka-dot pants and a hat with cat ears and a pink bow.
I couldn’t resist.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Karen, I am so happy that you’re expecting. You’re one of the first bloggers I started following and one of the few I still check on a regular basis. I wish you and your family all the joy and good in the world 🙂
P.s you look great 🙂

Hi Karen, I must have missed something in the blog, when did you announce that you were pregnant? Congrats & all the outfits look cute, especially the coat.

I missed it too, I guess!!

Hey Karen!!! I am so glad you responded to my comment!! I found the video after I posted that comment last night. I’m really excited for you!! I am having a nice, restful weekend. 🙂

I’d totally buy that coat if they had it in adult size! Sometimes kids L or XL sizes fit me, did they have any cat-themed clothes for older children?
Beti says
I love that H&M has a maternity section! It’s really hard to find stylish pieces that are also affordable when you’re pregnant. You look radiant Karen 🙂
Kate says
First congratulations <3
The cat print is adorable I tried the top on but the fit was just not right on me :-(,
Love that cat coat for the little girl though
Chelsea says
OMG the cat coat!!
They had a shirt in the girls section at Target that had bunnies in tracups. I really wanted it!
Kwmechelle says
Sooooo cute. All of the baby clothes were super freakin adorable! The coat ? I mean. You have to go back for it. It won’t be there in a year. I was perusing the H&M site yesterday & saw some cute cat-themed clothes & thought of you. Lovin the baby bump update pics & maternity updates. 🙂
Lena says
That onesie is uber cute. And El Hub is right, the coat can wait. There will be an even more awesome one in her future!
Kiyanna says
U look so cute prego!!
Rachel R. says
Awwww, your little baby bump is so cute! I really like the outfit you picked out. I love tops with horizontal stripes, personally. It’s a crime there was no kitty maternity wear. How rude! 😉
The little onesie you bought is adorable, along with all the other baby kitty stuff. Your hubby was right about the coat, though. Babies really do grow amazingly fast. At some points, my kids would go up a size every two weeks. You can buy something for the winter, and the kid will grow right past the size in the fall (or summer).
Erin says
I think all the stripes are to accentuate the bump. A few years ago it was all about hiding it and now it’s about flaunting it. Cute stuff though!
Katherine says
Omg congrats Karen!! I’m so happy for you and your hubby! And a little girl is so perfect! Now you can teach her all about fashion and makeup!! ❤?
JC says
Congratulations!
Oh, man, that coat! You probably could’ve argued H&M probably wouldn’t release another cat-themed collection for a few years and gotten your way ^^

If anyone is looking for budget maternity skinny jeans, Walmart online has a good selection. They are quite thin but under $15 and for someone like myself who doesn’t get a huge bump (tall and long torso), they don’t slip down a ton which is something I’ve experienced with thicker/heavier jeans. I’m at 27 weeks and have a similar bump size as you, Karen 😛

OMG!!! How did I miss knowing you are pregnant?!?! I follow you religiously! Anyway, SO very happy for you and El Hubs, and could you be any more adorable?? You wear your pregnancy well.? Best wishes~ Jenn ???
Ilene says
You are adorable and your baby will be too! I started shopping from my daughter on the way home from the sonogram! Best wishes!
LindaLibraLoca says
I got Little Bean a onesie with fur and ears when I barely knew she existed, and she really wore it. Never to early to shop for baby clothes!

My daughter (age 14) and I went to the City last Saturday, and went to all the same stores as you! We also went to the big Express, and the Sephora in Westfield, and ZARA and Macys (the Starbucks there with the lovely view, too!). We love all the same stores, and it is so fun. You and your daughter will be able to have fun together like that someday! Anyway, it would have been SO awesome to run into you in the City like that! We love to go – it is just a BART ride away from us.
Karen says
Hi Christina,
How fun that you and your daughter got to spend some time together in SF! I hope to do that same thing with Baby Girl someday. 🙂
If you ever see me in the city please say hi.
Jen says
Aww, you look great, Karen! Congrats again on the exciting news 🙂
I’m all about the cat prints at H&M- I gotta find that t-shirt. And I’ve recently become an auntie and I full-on intend to dress my niece in as many kitty outfits as possible (my sister will be all for it too 😉
denise S says
That’s a cute maternity outfit, the pearls set it off. LOL I knew you would dress baby girl in cat outfits, too cute!
Daniel says
You look so beautiful with your baby bump!! Pregnancy suits you so well!! I also browse H&M for cat stuff, and because I’m petite, I can also buy from the kids section! I regularly see a lot of cat stuff, so your little girl will never be without a kitty-themed item 🙂 Also, coincidentally, I just bought today the blue cat blouse, the first in your pics!! It’s very comfortable and pretty!!
Joyce says
I love h&m for little girls clothes. My daughter (4 years old) has one of their kitty dresses (pink with gray kitty heads all over), it’s her favorite. Whenever I take her to h&m, she would pick out dresses to try on. Loves it!!!
Pamela says
Your baby bump is beautiful! Make sure you take prenatals with DHA! Try some prenatal massage and yoga. And if you haven’t already bought it, buy What to Expect When Your Expecting and/or Dr Sears’ The Baby Book.
Lorie says
You are so adorable pregos. So happy for you and the baby news. =)
Michele says
Just watched your sweet video!! Congratulations to you and your hubby – such wonderful news! I am delighted for both of you and wish you an easy pregnancy. You look great! Love the cute striped shirt and skinny jeans. All the darling clothes for little girls could make you want to buy everything in sight! Wish that coat with kitty cats on the pockets were made for us grown up girls, too.
Heloisa says
OMG Karen, congratulations for the baby! I wish you all the best, I’m sure you’ll be a great mommy 🙂
About those clothes, though… My pocket is grateful such cute kitty themed stuff is not available on my size! My credit card would die, for sure!! >:(
But you are right, most def. Fashion designers have a gold mine in their hands and don’t even know it (or better, they totally do…). Personally, any piece of clothing with a cute animal on it and a decent enough fabric makes me wanna spend the (scarce) money I’ve got all on it. I dress in decidedly “grown up” fashion, dark clothes, rocker accessories, punk references and all, but what cat or animal lover can resist such cuties?? Your daughter is going to look so squeezable with that onesie!! <3
Aenea says
You can definitely buy clothing for when they are a little bit older. I do that if I really like something and it just comes in a big size. My 2 boys each have a box of “for future use” clothes and it comes in handy for when the time comes and you need something. No need to rush to the shops to buy it.
Michele DiCola says
Hi Karen,
I would totally buy that coat ! An you are going to love one-sies ! I thought my daughter had lost it until had started changing Anna and it was like: why had I not invented these.
And oh get a Gucci baby bag from the outlet or at least a Vera !
I am becoming a very excited Auntie !
Buy regular diapers too! they come in handy!

Congratulations! I am so happy for you and hubby. I missed the announcement somehow so I back tracked to read it. It will be interesting to see how Tabs gets along with new baby. Excited to see you blossom in the coming months.I am sure your families must be thrilled.
