Shout-out to my gal pal Stephanie (she comments here on MBB sometimes as SnoopySteph) for introducing me to these awesome Shirred V-Neck Tees by Caslon, a brand that does lots of everyday basics like tees, tops, blazers, pants, cardigans, sweaters — that kinda of thing. They’re carried at Nordstrom.
Steph mentioned that she wore these Shirred V-Neck Tees throughout her last pregnancy and loved them. Technically, they aren’t maternity clothing, but the ruching on the sides stretches out to accommodate growing tummies (which I’m finding very convenient right now).
I really like the idea of being able to still wear them after Baby Girl comes along, so I got a couple of them last week. I got the poppy one I’m wearing here, which is called “Red Bloom” (sounds a little like a menacing sci-fi character, doesn’t it?!), and a light gray shade called Cloudburst. They were both on sale for $9.90 each, and I see that some of the colors are still marked down. They’re regularly $29, so what a steal for $9.90!
Thank you for the recommendation, Steph! I can see why you love these shirts. They’re super soft and comfortable, and even though they’re 100% cotton and stretch to fit my curves, they still keep their shape and don’t get all loose, which has been happening with a couple of the maternity tops I picked up at H&M recently.
When I wear these, I like to pull them down so they cover my bum, but you can also keep the hem around waist level and have the ruching gather up at the sides. Great if you don’t have six-pack abs, and I never have (I like chocolate chip cookies waaaay too much, LOL!). They also come in regular and petite sizing.
As you can see by le bump, Baby Girl says “Wassup, auntie?” 🙂 She’s 16 weeks old now and officially the size of an avocado. She’s getting bigger by the day.
This is usually about when babies start kicking, and I’ve felt flutters in my abdomen a few times, but I couldn’t tell if it was just gas, haha.
And that, my friend, is a whole ‘nother story of epic TMI proportions.
Anyways, back to the shirts! Highly, highly recommended for everyone, and not just pregnant ladies.
Oh, and did I mention that nordstrom.com offers free shipping?
Yeah…you might want to get on that before the $9.90 colors are going, going, gone.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

That’s a great color on you! I like the Caslon brand but I’m not sure how well that shirt would look on me. I carry all my weight near my belly and people always ask if I’m pregnant when I’m not. This shirt might accentuate that 🙂

Congrats!! I know you were feeling bummed about having a baby a while back, so I’m so happy for you! [random stranger on the internet, I know.]
And yeah, I love those shirred shirts, (Old Navy makes fab, cheap ones) and they look great even if you’re not pregnant. Also as the tummy grows — I’m currently 7 months along — they help you avoid the billowy blimp look you get with regularly cut t-shirts.

I’m not pregnant, but I might have to pick one up!

Very cute! This red color looks fantastic on you. I like their purple, I’ll have to take a look next time I’m at Nordstrom.

Wowser Karen! You are glowing–you know that “having a baby glow” thing. It’s working for you and you are working it!
Re your v-blog on Sephora classes. I am a woman of “a certain age” and would love to attend classes, but I fear at my age I would be the only one of a “certain age.” What age ladies attend?

Very nice shirt and loving the color. When you do feel baby girl kick it will be like nothing else. When my husband finally felt our baby boy kick 6 years ago it was amazing. I’d been feeling it for a while but he finally caught a quick kickboxing session of his own 😉 I’m so happy for you! Love reading your posts on Preggo moments bc I just found out I’m about 4 weeks along and I cant wait to feel all of that again 🙂

You are seriously so adorable with your bump!!! Xo. I love these kinds of shirts. Thanks for the heads up!

wow you look a total babe, karen! love the nail polish btw, what color is that?
btw remember those tom’s suede booties you go a while back? got mine last week and you are right, they’re so comfortable and flattering! it cuts a little bit into my big toe on the left side, so in the meanwhile i am wearing band aid aroud where it cuts – will need to look into a long-term solution but at the moment, loving it!

Aw, look at that cute belly! And I love this color on you, it’s so vibrant! Looks very fresh! Also loving the bracelet a lot.

I really love how this colour looks on you, and that baby bump, awww x

I bought tons of similar shirts too and keep pulling them back out now. I never saw the point in buying too many maternity clothes you don’t get to wear again. Except jeans, of course, you just cant stretch out your regular pants enough.

Very cute and a good color for you.

You look great Karen. The red colour is beautiful on you and the tummy is so cute! Pregnancy seems to agree with you. Even though I’m not pregnant or ever want to be, this tee seem like a great option for the days when I’ve got a food baby.

Omg! U look sooo cute with ur baby bump.. ?

You look gorgeous in that shade of red. It suits you very well. And look at that little baby bump you’ve got going! Love it.
I used to think the first movements I felt were like have a butterfly tickle me from the inside. When I got to my last trimester I bought some cheap, brightly colored mens’ Tshirts to wear. Somehow they were roomier than the women’s versions.
Ebony says
I love those shirts. I bought some also because I still had some baby fat leftover and I wanted to hide it until I can get rid of it…lol

Awwwww, look at you! Your belly is adorable (and the shirt is OK,too – HAHA!). When I was at 16 weeks, I was wearing a circus tent. 😉

OMG Congratulations!!!!!!!!
You look amazing. I hope you’re feeling well. The second and 3rd trimester are the bomb.com.
Have your feet started to grow yet? I remember being 18 weeks pregnant and being like “oh cool, I’m one of those people who’s feet don’t grow”. Literally 1 week later none of my shoes fit. And I’m now a full size up. (I went from an 8.5 to a 9.5) there is a sad graveyard of shoes in my closest.

Hi Karen! I’ve been subscribed to your blog for quite some time now, and never left a comment. Not that I didn’t have anything to say, though 🙂 Seeing you today looking soooo radiant and lovely, I just had to say hi, and congrats!! Enjoy these coming months as they are truly unique. And, of course, keep up the good work.
All the best! :*
