I’m conflicted…
I spotted these kaleidoscopic cuties at Nordies the other day. They’re the Bernie Mev “Cuddly” Sneakers ($59.95).
On the one hand, rainbows and comfort! On the other hand, I’m getting a distinct comfort shoes/lunch lady shoes vibe… Granted, if you wore these, you’d be an incredibly awesome lunch lady rocking the cafeteria in your awesomely colorful shoes.
My first reaction was “no,” but now I’m leaning toward “yes,” because if I’m going to wear “comfort shoes” (air quotes), they sure as heck have to be fun and interesting. And these are both.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. How are things going? What are you doing today?
Vanessa says
I wear lunch lady shoes daily, but the rainbow lacks versatility for my warde wardrobe 😉
Karen says
Aww, but rainbow goes with everything!
I kind of love that you wear lunch lady shoes all the time. lol Which ones are the most comfortable of your lunch lady shoes?
Jessica says
Shoes: nope
I’m at work….working. 🙁
Karen says
I hope work flies by fast! When you get home say hi to the three kitties for me. And give extra lovin’ to Pebbles. 😉
Jessica says

Funny you should mention a lunch lady vibe. I really AM a “lunch lady” for a large daycare, and while the little ones would love these, no way could they stand up to being on my feet and constantly moving for 8-10 hours a day.
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
That’s super cool! How long have you been doing it? I bet it’s a hectic but fun job.
Oh, and P.S. Now I need to know which shoes are the most comfortable ones to wear if you’re standing and moving for 10 hours a day!
ame says
on pride parade day only
Karen says
You could wear this necklace to match!

You and I are so on the same wavelength it frightens me sometime.
Don’t buy these shoes, please. I nearly bought a very similar pair but by a different brand over Amazon but then I saw them in a store and realized that if I bought them I would be making a very sharp wrong turn toward oldladyville. We are both too young to go there.
Plus, I think Tabs and Paco Rabanne would be secretly laughing at us every time we wore them.
Karen says
They totally would. I can see Tabs ruining these while I sleep. He’d totally hate them.
So, funny story. A while back I was at DSW trying shoes on, and for the heck of it I put on a pair of lunch lady shoes and I swear they felt like I was walking on fluffy clouds! For a second I thought, “Sure. I can do this.” Then I looked in the mirror and was like, “OK, no. Not quite ready to go there yet.” LOL! They were certainly comfortable though.
Lulle says
Yeah I would, I’m all for comfy shoes – stilettos look good but usually feel like torture! These ones are Pride ready, I would take them to the Parade this Saturday in San Diego!
The black ones in the background of your pic look a bit more wearable for every day errands though.
Icequeen81 says
Hi Karen
My answers lean more on no, The model is nice, for me another color combination. maybe grey purple? or just 2 colors combination.
They seem easy for everyday just another color combination.
Lauren says
Hi Karen!
I like the style, but wonder if that would be a hard pattern to match? I do like the blue ones below these!!
Nola says
OMgosh my mom had these shoes; she bought them a few years ago and I was like GO MOM! They are pretty wild looking what with all the rainbow and silver. I didn’t think of them as “lunch lady” at all. Of course my mom was in her sixties. 🙂 So maybe “sassy older lady” instead? So thank you, Karen, for this, because I opened up my e-mail and I thought of my wonderful mom, who certainly had her own style. She passed away last March. I consider this a “hello!” from her from the ether.
Erin says
I think that a lot of people discount crazy color combos or slightly frumpy silhouettes. After working at Nike for many years, I am fine with my shoes not matching my outfit. These would cute with ankle length cuffed boyfriend jeans and a slub v-neck tee with some bright jewelry in a coordinating color.
For the more daring look would be a full skirt, tank, and jacket with delicate jewelry.
Shit doesn’t have to match it just has to go together. Use color theory!
Aim says
I have a pair. I got them because I have rather wide feet. I don’t mind how they look. They are comfortable. I find because of the way they are made, my foot is not held in place and slides around over the sole. I have twisted my ankles a couple times. They are fine for standing but not so much for walking.
Twyla says
Hi Karen!
I’s say no to the shoes, but only because they rub my feet (I tried on a similar pair). I’m all about the colors!
I get to clean because it’s muh weekend. And also read your blog. 😉
Hope your day’s going great! <3
Rachel says
No you can’t buy those, they are total “mom shoes”! I bought my mom a pair of Skechers GoWalks and she will not take them off, they look similar to the ones above!
TJ says
I’d rock those. They don’t say “old lady” to me and I’ve never seen a lunch lady wear anything of the sort. I was both a schoolkid and the child of a lunch lady at one point in my life so I knew quite a few of them.
Unless I’m attending a really formal event, comfort and function is always my first consideration with shoes. Not only is style secondary but I make my own rules in regard to fashion. Nothing is ever in style if it doesn’t work for me.
I simply don’t have time to be bothered with shoes that slow me down and I like to think I have the confidence and attitude to pull pretty much anything off so the funky colors would be right up my alley and they’d easily work with most of my casual wardrobe. For me they’re a “do.” YMMV
Allison C says
Though they look very comfy, I never wear flat shoes. And the Rubik’s Cube pattern is cute but not me 😉
Stephanie says
Ugh, I say no. Unless you’re like 75 maybe? Then I think they’d look cute.
Well, I’m going back to my hairdresser to “fix” my hair color. *sigh* I used to be naturally blonde, as I’ve gotten older I’m going dark instead of gray. I’m now more of an ashy, dark blonde. So I’ve always gotten highlights and color. When my dark roots grow in my hair looks greasy, so I thought I’d try red. Um, I do not have the coloring to pull off red. Not only that but it’s fading SO fast it looks ashy now. My roots are a weird magenta color. Color fail. My poor hairdresser feels so bad. So Saturday she’s going to try to bring me back to the blonde spectrum.

Lunch lady shoes is the exact vibe I got!

Oh, I’m sorry, dude. Looks like these are a no for most of your voters, including me. BUT! Follow your heart & buy these bad boys if your heart can’t bear to be apart for forever! Sorry I didn’t answer you back last night. Guess who turned in early? But to answer your questions: we had a seafood boil (broil?) with a side of fries, cake, strawberries, & ice cream. My brother’s mom in law knows her way around the kitchen & happily cooked for us. Hope your day is going well! =)
Heloisa says
HELL, no! Not just the rainbow colors, but the design is too “anatomical” for my taste. Plus, rocker me would never allow such a colorful thing on my feet! Nevertheless, I have no doubt you’d pull them off quite elegantly 🙂
I don’t I own any sort of “colorful” shoes. They’re all either black or dark grey or taupe or brown. I do own, however, a pair of leopard print ballet flats and blood red pumps 3:)

I saw these at Nordstrom online and ordered a few pairs to try on last spring. When they arrived, though, they just felt too… Baby Boomer. Cute for a 65 year old. Not quite lunch lady, they’re not all about comfort once you get them on. And like someone else said they do slide around on your foot, not very stable. I loved the concept, the rainbows and sparkles… But in reality they seemed like something my mom’s friends would wear. 🙂 Cute shoes – but I get your reservations!
Carrie says
Ok, can’t say I’m a huge fan of these particular ones, but I have a pair of these in a navy blue camo/open-toed style, and have NEVER had SO MANY people compliment my shoes! Every single time I wear them, people say they love them! I don’t really get it…they’re fine, but I just bought them to be comfort shoes, and they don’t seem particularly stylish to me. But the people have spoken, it seems!
zVintageFashionizta says
I like comfort shoes, the style is ok but the color is ohhhhhh, no, no noooooo!
barbara says
i have 2 pair, a blue and a black. i use them for pool walking, a wonderful, fun excercise. they would be good in the ocean too. i live on the gulf. yes!!! i am an old almost 70 year old lady, but i have always liked wierd stuff. i like to be different and colorful since retired in paradise. they did not offer the crazy ones then or i would have bought them.
Kiss & Make-up says
I voted no, just because they’re a bit too funky for me. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like ’em, I think they’re really cool.
LipjunkieNL says
Don’t buy them! You look way too hot and young to be wearing those shoes :).
MonicaP says
I looked at these in black and .. hmmm, I just don’t dig these shoes – and I’m a huge comfort shoe gal 🙂
