What is it about winter that makes you look in the rearview mirror of your car and think, “Were those dark circles always that dark, or did I just skip my triple grande this morning?”
I don’t know about you, but where I live, it’s cold and dark — even in March, when spring should be on the way — and to top it off, I get very little adequate sleep as a working mom. Needless to say, makeup application in the morning is all about concealing and brightening!
Building upon the success of their much beloved Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector, a product I’ve used and loved for quite some time, Becca has released four Backlight Targeted Color Correctors for Spring 2016 to be used in tandem with their Ultimate Coverage Concealing Cream.
These products may look like tools only a professional should be applying, but Becca has made it easy and approachable to color-correct on a daily basis, and this busy lady says THANK YOU.
All of Becca’s concealing products are incredibly emollient which, to be entirely honest, could either be a pro or a con, depending on your skin type and preferences. As a dry skinned makeup lover (particularly in the under-eye area), the smooth formula has always felt wonderful; it’s easy to apply, fully covers imperfections after one swipe and doesn’t settle into fine lines. The Becca Ultimate Coverage Concealing creams are available in 12 shades and are mouth wateringly named after sweet treats like butterscotch and syrup. At $32 each, these concealers are a treat; however, the highly pigmented and easy-to-blend texture means that a little will go a long way.
My initial reaction to the Backlight Targeted Color Correctors was that selecting and applying shades each day as part of my makeup routine was a time-consuming step that wouldn’t be realistic. After testing these products, though, and working them into my daily routine, I’m struggling to remember how I got along without them.
I prefer a light coverage foundation, so each morning I layered several different concealers with different properties to cover my deep under-eye circles, hide pigmentation imperfections and touch-up redness so that my foundation could remain light. Ditching the extensive concealer routine and working with Becca’s Targeted Color Correctors has actually been a time saver, and while layered concealers tend to allow my dark circles to show through, the color cancellation of these products actually stays with me throughout the day. These correctors are $30 each and can be purchased individually or mixed and matched for all skin tones to suit your personal needs.
- Deep red but sheer Papaya neutralizes deep blues and greens (remember the red lipstick and concealer trick that was popular a year or so ago?) and can also be used to hide bruising and tattoos. What do I love best about this product? — that it can also be used to add a natural looking flush to the cheeks or a wash of color to the lips.
- Warm orange Peach suits my skin tone best when it comes to concealing dark circles, but it also conceals birth marks and hyper pigmentation. I have fallen in love with this particular corrector and will definitely repurchase when I reach the bottom of the emollient pot.
- Cool-toned Violet is recommended as a way to neutralize dullness. Becca advocates for placing this on the center of the cheeks or underneath the eyes to brighten.
- Pistachio is likely the most familiar and approachable corrector of the bunch as many are comfortable with eliminating redness with green-toned correctors. I’ve found this particularly useful for my nose and also my cheeks that are somewhat prone to rosacea during the cold winter months.
Becca is a brand known for mindfulness and quality and that shines through in these products. What’s most exciting about the Ultimate Coverage Concealing Creams and Backlight Targeted Color Correctors is the fact that amidst a sea of like products, they truly are something different. Buildable, blendable and emollient, these products make heavyduty concealing and correcting accessible for beginners and experts alike.
Would you consider color-correcting your skin? Which shade among these four new Becca Backlight Targeted Color Correctors would you be most likely to try?

I have the correctors in Peach & Papaya and can get away with using either shade for combating my dark circles. They work well underneath my MAC Pro Longwear concealer without looking cakey or emphasizing fine lines. The formula is also highly concentrated and pigmented. So, each jar will last a while.

Peach color corrector for me to tackle dark circles from heridiatery! I am using a Bobbi Brown one currently but it is prone to creasing!

Eesha these are so amazing. I’m eastern European so some of my dark circles are inherited and some of it has to do with a lack of sleep. Peach cancels everything out, and if I’m really in need I go with the deeper red.

They look so creamy and emollient! I’ve tried green correctors for redness before, but they never did anything for me except look unnatural. Yellow on the other hand works wonders to cancel the redness on my cheeks. I’ve also tried pale blue to correct dullness (same idea as the lavender here) and while I liked the result on me I think it would only work for fair to light skin tones.

I have tried using green color corrector before. It’s strange both peach and green worked for my under eye circles. But, I tried green to cover redness around my nose and red acne scars on my cheeks. I may not have used the right amount because when I put foundation on top, the green mixed with it and my face took a greenish tinge.
I need that peach and macadamia in my life.

Becca’s formula blends very well with concealer and with foundation over top it’s completely unnoticeable. I recommend that you give these a play in store. 🙂

I am so intrigued by these! Definitely want to try them. Color correcting successfully can be tricky…

I’m so glad you’ve found a routine that works for you! It sounds tricky, but reading your descriptions makes me want to delve into color correcting more deeply.

When I sat down and thought about it I realized that I was spending *more* time layering concealers than I was just popping on some neutralizing products. I’m thrilled!

I like using the Bobby Brown corrector on my undereye circles, so the concept isn’t entirely new to me. I don’t think I´d have much use for the lavender, but I could see me using the green around my nose.

These all look so amazing! I’ve always been wary of using reds and greens for redness/dark circles. I was using a green concealer once to cover a blemish and did not blend enough. My mild embarrassment still haunts.
Jessica Revitte says
I love it! The “lipstick” concealer trick kind of freaks me out, but lipsticks aren’t see through and emollient in the same way these are so it makes them much easier to blend. Highly recommend them, Marcella!

Wonderful post & very well written. I’m drawn to the concealers & terrified of the correctors! I’ve never done color correcting because I usually can get away with concealer but I have been dying to try it since it’s all the rage right now. Maybe I’ll try a drugstore corrector first to see if I can get the hang of it before the hefty investment. And I might purchase the concealer when I run out of my ole’ trusty NARS Amande.

Thank you for the compliment! It can be intimidating to guest post on a well established blog, so that’s lovely feedback. 🙂

Haven’t tried any of these Becca correctors, yet. I’m very fair and using a green toned corrector for redness leave my skin looking ashy gray. I prefer a yellow corrector for toning down redness.

I love the Becca correctors and concealers that I’ve tried so far. They make such great complexion products. I definitely need to try the peach corrector for my extreme under eyes. lol
Erin says
I haven’t tried these yet. I’m all for anything to help with my circle situation. Unfortunately, it’s a mix of veins and redness under my eyes so I have to layer multiple products strategically. Being as pale as I am and as thin skinned, every little thing shows up everywhere!
Jessica Revitte says
You sound like me, Erin. I was previously putting on peach corrector, then concealer, then foundation and then concealer again. By 2:00 PM despite the (excessive) layers I could STILL see my circles. This doesn’t happen with these.
