Some people keep their favorite book on their bed stand, others a bottle of holy water (My mom totally does! It’s in a bottle shaped like the Virgin Mary!). Me? — I have a space dedicated to whichever piece of makeup I’m currently crushing on. That way, it’s one of the first things I see when I get up in the morning. 🙂 Nerdy, I know, but it’s also true.
Right now the space is reserved for the new Eye Wanna! kit from Benefit, which, last night, slept right beside my lamp. Perfect, because when my eyelids fluttered open this morning and my eyes adjusted to the light, the cute kit was there to greet me.
As I lay in bed contemplating the artwork on the packaging, I felt a familiar rustling under the covers and pulled them back to confirm my suspicions.
Tabs immediatlely grumbled a hello, raising his head. “Mrow.”
“Oh, good morning,” I said. “How did you sleep?”
He flashed me his usual disinterested stare.
“You think I should do a look today inspired by the artwork on this beautiful palette?”
He issued a purr-chirp in reply, which I usually take to mean, “I don’t care, woman. Get up and feed me some gravy, already!” But today’s I interpreted as a resounding “Yes.”
I chose this blue, taupe, pink and plum eye — a little out of my comfort zone, but I thought it might be fun to wear to the farmer’s market tonight.

What about your makeup today? Spill the beans. Are you cruising conservatively, or did you try something dramatic?
Destruction is his middle name!
El Hub worked late last night, so I had the evening to myself. I ended up running a few errands — Petco, Sephora (just a peek; didn’t get anything) and Target. Originally, the plan was to treat myself to fro-yo for dinner, but then I saw these Vanilla Caramel cones from Skinny Cow in the frozen food section at Tar-ghay…
Have you had ’em before? They’re like low-cal ice cream sundaes, and, yes, they’re the bomb.com! Sure, they use light ice cream, so they aren’t as rich as the real deal stuff, but still. YUM!
FYI: If you store the box in the freezer on its side (like I did), the caramel ends up all over the inside of each individual cone’s packaging, so if you want all that sweet, gooey goodness to remain where it belongs on top of the ice cream itself, store them upright in the freezer.
Oh! At Target I also picked up this cute gift bag and matching paper for my friend Jen’s baby shower this weekend…
Sweet, huh? I think it looks good with the gift, a Vera Bradley Baby Bag, which I owe a big thank you to new mom and all around cool girl Tiffany for suggesting (thank you, Tiffany!). The bag is lightweight, machine washable and matches the purse I see Jen carry a lot.
You know I’m all about practical accessories. 🙂
In other news, I’ve been feeling a little bad for Tabs lately because he’s cooped up indoors while it’s so nice and sunny outside. I take him out for walks as often as I can, but he used to be an outdoor cat. I’m sure he misses his lazy days outside…
I felt kinda guilty yesterday, so I got him a new feather toy, which he loved so much that it took him all of 10 minutes to destroy.
Oh, Edward Scissorpaws…put away your claws of destruction.
So how are things in your neck of the woods? Anything new to report on this lovely Thursday?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Out of your comfort zone! *scoffs* you should make these your go-to colors, u look gorgeous in them!! <3
Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex says
That blue shadow looks great on you!
I loooove Skinny Cow, especially their ice cream sandwiches!
Larie says
I love your eye makeup! And ooooh, ice cream, I want! I haven’t had any in a while (okay, maybe a week, but for me, that’s a while!) and I know I have a carton of Ben & Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake in the freezer at home, just waiting for me!
Megan says
Karen, those colors are AMAZING on you! Absolutely, I second the go-to colors idea. You look fabulous.
Also: the Virgin Mary-shaped water bottle just made my day. I can’t stop giggling. Where’s the spout of the bottle? Does her head unscrew? All sorts of sacrilegious thoughts! Teeheehee.
Lacey says
Karen, I seriously love that look! I may need to add this palette to my list 🙂
Mary says
Hahaha – my mom’s cat is the same way. Give him a toy that isn’t built super-sturdy and he’ll tear it apart in minutes! 😛
Jen W says
I love the combination of the plum and blue!
Heidi says
I love this look on you. That plum shade around the lashlines is really striking.
Perhaps Tabs is a bit too “energetic” for toys that involve feathers? Missy would break that sucker in two seconds flat! We got a toy on a stick for her one year that was like a chain of pompoms on a black plastic stick. Before we knew it there were bright orange pompoms all over the house.
I didn’t go out today, but the yardwork guy was coming over so I couldn’t not do makeup (oh, the vanity!) so I just did a simple look with some of my cheap e.l.f. products that I have on hand. Concealer, a pink all-over color stick for blush, a dual-ended cream shadow and liner stick in plum/purple, mascara, and lip balm.
Karen says
Ooh, Missy. I just KNOW that she and Tabs Skype each other late at night!
How are you liking the ELF products? I was eyeing the line at Target last night and was kinda tempted.
Heidi says
I must say, the ELF products I’ve tried so far have been pretty impressive. I absolutely ADORE the tinted moisturizer. I’ve tried so many, and most look really shiny on me halfway through the day, but this one stays matte, has really nice coverage, great SPF (20), and it’s THREE DOLLARS! Their gel liners are very nice, too. I picked up plum and copper the last time I was at Target.
Oh, and Missy and Tabs are SO spending regular time plotting against us. I’m convinced!
Karen says
I will have to check out the display closely next time I hit up Target. I hope I can find a color in their TM that works for me. THREE DOLLARS! Gotta love that.
Totally agree with the Crazy Cat Connection. They’re probably texting right now…
Kayleigh says
LOL Tabs the destruct-o-matron! That eye look is really beautiful!
Angela says
Skinny Cow Ice cream Sandwiches are delicious,I think next time I buy them though I won’t grab the ginormous Costco box heh. It sort of defeats the purpose when I eat too many just because there’s this huge box in the freezer and I think one more won’t hurt.
Speaking of frozen stuff, have you tried Yogurtland? I went to the one up in Anchorage,Alaska the other day and it made me really wish we had one here in Juneau,so yummy! I saw a sign at Yogurtland with a silhouette of Hello Kitties face and it said,”Coming July 21st” does anyone know what that was about?
AK says
Girl you ROCK that look! Love it.
Yesterday I went to Blue Mercury (Makeup boutique in Charleston, SC) and tried out NARS’ Cap Ferrat – I have been tempted for weeks to try it out. Alas, I’m glad I played with it, but it doesn’t go with my lighter skin – I think it goes BAM! on the tanner mamas out there..
Then something bronze-y, shimmery and oh-so-rich caught my eye: Chanel’s single eyeshadow Vert Khaki. I saw, I sampled, I spent. It is the khaki to end all khakis. I tried NARS’ Nouveau Monde (a khaki and lilac duo) before spotting the Chanel, but Coco really takes the cake on this one. The texture is so soft, no fallout, and it just really has deeper dimension to it than the NARS.
When I buy Chanel (or other comparable brands), I think of it as an investment. You really do get fantastic pigment, depth of color, and quality. So that’s the look I rocked today. I think that rich khaki color goes beautifully with olive skinned beauties with yellow undertones to their skin. I like to line the lower lashes with it as well for a softer day look.

Girl you ROCK that look! Love it.
Today I rocked a khaki eye from Chanel. Yes, I made an investment yesterday. I ventured to Blue Mercury – our makeup boutique here, and I went to go try NARS’ Cap Ferrat. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as good on my lighter skin. Those colors go BAM! on the tanner mamas out there. I have been trying to find the perfect khaki eyeshadow, and I was trying out NARS’ Nouveau Monde (A khaki and lilac duo) when something rich and mysterious caught my eye…Chanel’s Vert Khaki single eyeshadow.
I saw, I sampled, I spent.
It really did put to shame the NARS khaki color. The Vert Khaki has so much more depth, dimension and quality of color. Even down to the micro sized glitter flecks that catch the light ever so slightly, Coco really takes the cake on this baby. The texture is so soft with no fallout.
When I buy Chanel (or other comparable brands), I think of it as an investment. You’re getting fantastic pigment, quality and depth of color. The sweet, classic packaging doesn’t hurt either 😉

Hello! I just found your blog, and I really like it. I am addicted to makeup and beauty products too. Plus, I am total cat girl as well. How fun!
Those colors look great on you, I’m inspired to try a look like that in the morning. 🙂
Thanks for sharing.
Karen says
Hi Courtney,
It’s nice to meet you! 🙂
What’s your cat’s name?
Jessi says
Blues look amazing on your eyes! I love Benefit’s creaseless creams so I will probably be picking up both if these sets!
Karen says
Yay! I think the Creaseless Creams will look so pretty on your skin, Jessi!
Amy says
I luv luv these colors. they are gorg on you.
Karen says
Thanks, Amy! Do you like to blues and plums, too?
Josie says
Wow that look is so pretty on you! I might end up keeping the eyeshadows when i get this kit, not just the creaseless shadows! BTW, do you know if this will be available in-store??
Owwww my cat Bella (who looks like a slightly slimmer, female version of tabs) just scratched up my chest when i was holding her!
Karen says
Hi Josie,
It’s available online now, which usually means it’ll trickle into the stores in the next few weeks. 🙂 You could always save the Creaseless Creams and give ’em to a friend as a gift.
marisol says
You always have an amazing FOTD but the blending of this eye look is superb!
I hearth those skinny cow cones. So yummy! Have you tried the light freddos from Peet’s? IMO so much better than Starbucks & only a 100 calories.
I’m doing my first official 5k on Sunday & I am so excited & nervous. Wish me luck!
Karen says
LUCK! This is so exciting. Where is the race?
marisol says
It’s in GG park. At least the weather will be on my side.
Christine says
Oh my goodness, Karen, these colors are so so gorgeous on your eyes. Yay for going out of your comfort zone & discovering something great :D! I’m especially loving the plum on your lash lines :-).
Maybe you should call Tabs, “Tabs: Master of Destruction.” Hahaha.
Karen says
Thanks, Christine. I usually don’t do reddish plums, but sometimes they’re fun. You just never know, right?
And LOL… Tabs has quite a few different nicknames praising his ability to destroy things.
Chris25 says
I’m totally loving those shadows on you. I think I’ll have to try out my new Stila Curacao eyeliner tomorrow, so I can inject some blue into my life.
Tomorrow I have to run some errands and I may see Harry Potter Part 2. I hope Curacao lasts through all the weeping.
Karen says
Ooh, I can’t wait to hear about it (both the liner and what you think about the movie).
Sheena says
I love that eye look, especially the hint of redish purple on the lower lash line : )
Karen says
Thanks, Sheena. 🙂
Stacie says
Wow! Love it! Wish I had eyelids…
Karen says
Are you a Benefit fan, Stacie?
dani@callitbeauty says
LOVE LOVE LOVE! these shades are right up my alley!
also, you’ve been looking EXTRA lovely lately =).
Karen says
I can totally see you rocking these colors… while gardening, of course!
dani@callitbeauty says
OF COURSE! when else would one wear them? :p
Kate & Zena says
That’s a pretty eye look on you.
In other matters, it FINALLY looks like the “heat dome” where I live is breaking up. THANK GOD. There are only so many days I can go with 109 degrees with the heat index. Going outside was a complete nightmare as it felt like you were going out into a giant, invisible sheet of super sticky paper with, I think, a four inch layer of molasses slapped on top. Absolutely gruesome. My air conditioner might be able to catch up and get the house super cold now (it’s like, 85, in my house. It’s supposed to be 75. It’s THAT hot and humid here. Yuck.)
My Thursday was kinda icky. I had to get up to go to my psychiatrist. He told me I was too skinny. This wouldn’t be a problem (he always says that) if my mom said even though I eat pretty much all day, I should eat more. It was like, “What?! What do you want me to do, stuff my face until I throw up? Define more? Today, I woke up at 1:05 PM; it’s now 7:15 pm. In that time, I’ve consumed 3/4ths of a medium McDonalds fry, I think two handfuls of Teddy Grahams, two and half sodas, one chocolate milk and 3/4ths of my IHOP grilled cheese meal (I didn’t finish all the fries. The grilled cheese sandwich fills me up.) What more do you want me to eat? A bear?” (Yes, I know thinking about eating a bear is an exaggeration. You get the idea.) I’m a bit huffy and puffy now. You’d think she, of all people, would understand as I’ve ALWAYS been underweight by BMI standards. I’m a bit peeved.
Kim says
I know that it was intentional but I’m still really impressed by how well your eye makeup matches that awesome top you’re wearing!
The purr-chirp is one of my favorite things. 🙂 Your friend Jen is going to love that baby bag – way to go, Tiffany! And your gift bag/paper are super cute. I think people enjoy getting gift bags as much as most of us enjoy giving them. They’re easy to open and can be reused. So much nicer than tearing off paper and throwing it away. At least for grown-ups. Kids should definitely tear. 🙂
Sarah S. says
This definitely ought to be a go-to look for you! Your eyes look so pretty!
I’m bold today with a Maybelline Color Explosion in Forest Fury and MAC Ever Hip on my lips. It’s casual Friday at the office, yo!
Ruchita says
Gorgeous look! I’m really wanting to add some blue and purple eyeshadows to my collection.
Also, Skinny Cow makes some yummy ice cream sandwiches as well.
Recently, I’ve found that Mingus loves when I ball up a piece of scrap paper and throw it around the corner. He will run over to find out what it is and start batting it around running around like a soccer player. 🙂 Sometimes, he’ll even carry it around in his mouth.
If he loses it (which happens a lot) I just make another one!
Nina says
gorgeous look! 🙂 i love what you did with it!
Olga says
This is so pretty! Please to a look with the Annie palette. I’m planning to pick it up anyways, but I would like to see what you would do with it. 🙂
Also, is this a Sephora exclusive?
Eva says
Love it!
I am jealous that blue e/s looks so much better on brown than blue eyes….plus, it just suits your colouring perfectly.
Gorgeous!!
Eileen says
That’s a really pretty eye look, but I gotta say what really caught my attention was your skin! Looks like its glowing in these pics–you look great 😀
Joy says
Cool color and it blends well with your skin. 🙂

I cut the claws on my kitty with a special claw-cutter – he is also stuck inside the house (don’t want him to be run over by cars or eaten by the foxes/neighbor dogs – I would do the same if I were you 🙂
