I was originally going to wear basic neutrals and black liner on my lids today because it was deceptively chilly this morning, but that didn’t last long. It was 80 degrees by 9!
After shutting all the windows, drapes and blinds (much to Tabs’ chagrin, because it obstructs his view of the bird feeder outside), I felt like summery makeup was in order — something like the new NARS Tropical Princess Eyeshadow Duo from the Adult Swim summer 2014 collection.
Heres’s a breakdown of the makeup I’m wearing…
- NARS Tropical Princess Eyeshadow Duo: along my lower lash lines (applied with a wet brush to intensify the color)
- The NARS NARSissit Eyeshadow Palette: lids
- NARS Black Valley Eye Paint: upper lash lines (see the double wing at the end?)
- NARS Orgasm Blush: mah cheeks
- NARS Lodhi Satin Lip Pencil with NARS Orgasm Lip Gloss on top: my lips
- MAC 36 false lashes: on my upper lashes
What did you do for your makeup today? Inquiring minds want to know.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I love that look, so fresh for summer!! BTW, I just found your blog, I love it! I’m new to Marin (from Seattle) and finally made it to the Novato Sephora last weekend…it’s amazing! Compared to the tiny isles at my downtown Seattle store…I’m not constantly bumping someone with my oversized handbag! So, random Sephora question for you…do you find the staff helpful for suggesting the best of XX product, or do you do a ton of research first before stopping in? I’m looking for a new summer foundation/tinted moisturizer and there are so many options…I don’t want to end up being disappointed if I choose the wrong product! Also, sidenote…the Corte Madera Nordstrom beauty section is insane…when is the best time to go in and get some focused help?! Thanks:)

OMG. So hawt! I love this makeup look especially with your dark hair, Karen! I’m thinking of getting caramel highlights all over for summer. Buuut now I’m thinking that I should colour my hair back to my natural shade because you are just fierce!

Hi Karen!
The things I appreciate about this FOTD: – cheek and lip color combo
– coral color compliments your skin tone
– photos as of late are fantastic
Lately, I’ve taken note when you wear coral. It has guided my color choices for makeup.
My makeup today? Half face with MAC matchmaster 6.0 and sur blush for contour. Comparing contour with copper beech which seems to be too orange for me.
On the fence about matchmaster. Have tried face and body as well but my oily face could not tolerate it even with reinforcements.
Will now move onto Kevyn Aucoin’s sensual skin enhancer.

All tropical glammed up…this look belongs in a Hawaiian pageant! My makeup today was rushed and sad. So much puppy training lately I didn’t have time to do anything I really wanted. At least there is always tomorrow 🙂

This is such a gorgeous look Karen! The strong highlight on the lower lash line gives you a very different look that I haven’t seen on you before! Lovely!

What a great look! I like it all — the eyes, the cheeks, the lips. What a great idea 🙂

Love this! So tropical!
My makeup today was pretty low key, for the most part! Skinceuticals Physical Fusion tinted sunscreen, Maybelline Dream Lumi Concealer in Ivory, Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in Ash Blonde, MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study, winged grey liner from an Ulta brand called Pixel, and Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara. I put on a sheer lipstick at a couple points during the day (Revlon Super Lustrous in Pink Cognito).
I’m going really natural with the foundation lately, my freckles look a lot better with sheer coverage – sometimes foundation makes ’em look a little grey or just like blotchy skin.

This look is so well done! You are on expert levels now! I tend to stay away from wearing makeup in summer, its so damn hot its a struggle to keep my face together forget any makeup!

Stunning, Karen! I have *got* to try Lodhi, it looks so gorgeous on you.
Today I wore IT Cosmetics ByeBye UnderEye concelear in Neutral Medium, CC Cream in Light, and their Redness Reducer (one of the few I’ve tried that actually does reduce redness); Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light; Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzing Powder; Laura Mercier blush in Heather Pink; The Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Palette on my eyes (Satin Sheets from crease to brow, highlight inner corners with In The Buff, Sugar Walls from lash up into crease, Garter Belt smoked along lash lines and Voulez Vous lining the upper outer lashes); Nars Eye Paint in Transvaal tightlining my upper lashes; Urban Decay eyeliner pencil in Desperation on my lower waterlines; brows filled in with Bobbi Brown Cement and Grey (ombre brows, good!), the white hairs colored with Anastasia brow gel in Espresso, and all of it set with the clear gel; IT Cosmetics tightlining black lash primer as my lower lash mascara, Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara on my upper lashes; and Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy lipstick in 510 dolci. 19 products, lol. Did I mention Hourglass No. 28 primer serum before all of the above? It really helps my makeup stay on… like through the downpour we had here yesterday. In the summer, when my skin is oily, I like the Veil Mineral Primer, but when my skin gets dry in the winter, I switch to No. 28. Oh, and MAC Paint Pot in Painterly as my eye shadow primer. Every. Single. Day. Nothing works like Painterly.
